swweeeeeettttt :D
edit: show us pics of the cooling, etc ;)
This really has to be the FUNNEST CPU/Mobo I've ever owned....
It OC's like MAD, I can bench at like 330HTT with BH-5, it loves voltage, loves COOLNESS (as in open window, 16C), it's just GREAT kit.
11 x 273 = 3007mHz, 1.80 Vcore, 3.20Vdimm, DDR430, 2-2-2-5-7-16 1T
A few notes:
OCZ Powerstream 520W is just outstanding, A+++
CoolerMaster Hyper6, there "is" no substitute.
Good 'ole KHX3000, hehehehe.... still good for something!
OCZ DDR Booster, best thing to hit the OC community since caffeinated beverages!
MSI K8N Neo2, what can I say? It's the KX7-333R of the A64 world!
The Winchester core? I'm in love :D
BTW, LN2 meets Winchester sometime later this week, stay tuned.
man, this makes me wish i had 400 extra dollars even more!
Nice one! :slobber:
are there 3000+ winchester processors???
If there are, i'm going to buy one :D
hmm.. Hyper-6 vs. modified SLK-900U ;)
Kappa, yes there are. They sell for ~$175-225 depending on store and stock.
Nice clock Charlie. Where's it prime stable? 2800-2833ish?
Also, can this board run khx3000 1:1 or is it stuck at 5:6?
3ghz? on air? with amd? omg!
next thing i know, intel tries beating amd with lower clocks.. lol. did the world turn upside down while i was away stuffing some food?
awesome stuff, charlie! curious what that rig can do with a sniff of ln2 :D
hm and all of this smells upgrade time, soonish. oi ehhe
he had the spd of those sticks reprogrammed I think lithan.
watshisname will have an orgasm when he sees that
i *predict* he will, muhaha.. and i'll furthermore *predict* we'll see more bs about the gf4 scoring 50k in 2k1 with a wnichester... or stuff like that.. oh what fun. :stick: :D
omfg
I HAVE to buy a winchester this Christmas :)
Awesome OC charlie! :toast:
I cant wait to hear you-know-who defend his claim that Winchester was like Tbred-A. ;)
j/k Ace. :D
Ive just put my order in for the 3500 Winchester!! Dunno on the motherboard or RAM yet but I have my Mach II GT waiting for this little beast!!
* MSI Neo2 or Asus A8V Rev2 Deluxe?
* G.Skill TCCD or ???
Whaddy'a say?
Lovely OC btw mate!!
Congrats! That is a sick speed on air!!
Opp seems to be doing pretty damn good with his MSIQuote:

Sweet lord.
I was thinking of building a waterchiller for my Mobile AXP, however, seeing this, my every day doubts of whether I better transfer funds to the buying-reserve for one of these new bad babies, seem to have received a decisive boost.
Holy fiddlesticks Batman, did I pick a great time to start browsing XS again! :slobber:
Charlie can you give us the stepping of your 3500+ please ;)
Go for the Winchester. They rock! :DQuote:

what rev is the msi board? i have one thats complete crap, ex review model though so probo a very early one. Might only be rev 1.00's for all i know, but i assume there are slight differences.
THough, have to say charlie, the cpu clock is amazing, but haven't most nf3 boards from 150 up till now been able to do 330HTT. I mean, gigabyte nf3 150 k8n pro and mines still going along at that, since about day 3, since last september.
Based on hating MSI, i ordered an epox, not supposed to be great, but only heard from like 2 people and ones doing good. Will see if its any good tomorrow hopefully. Very dissappointed with, afaik its 1.7vcore and 2.8vdimm in bios :(. Ah well.
Also got XP120's here, and got a hyper 6 and asus ice star arriving tomorrow so will finally see what the difference between them is. If the xp120 ain't as good i can't see a reason for getting one as its a PITA to fit. What fans you running on the hyper 6?
stepping please and omg... amazing oc charlie, what is it prime stable at?
i've tested any 3500+ 0,09 and it gives me 20 pts more than FX55 with same setings at 3DM05 , very closer at 3DM03.
The 3500+ can't compete at same frequency at 3DM2K1 but with 200mhz more it can outperform it.
what mobo's have you been using the Winnies on? Which is the best and with what RAM?
Was there a reply as to what you managed to get it 100% stable at? was it 3ghz or was that enough for some benchies + a screenshot...
All,
Heheheh... yeah, I was wondering what HE'D say when he saw this, lol.
Stable? Well, it's a story of two CPU's. At 24C ambient, with 1.6v I could run sPi 1M @ 2750ish and 8M around 2700.
At 15C ambient, and north of 1.8v, I could run sPi 1M@ 2900 and 8M @ 2850ish. I don't use PRIME95 any more on benching rigs, because if it benches, that IS stability as far as I'm concerned.
Hyper6, mmmmm.... bad dog :D I'm running a 80mm Tornado on it, with a fan controller of course.
Stepping, I was so anxious to get it in that I forgot to look  I got it from Monarch on their 3rd batch, so I'd suspect week >40
All this is with the IHS on it?
yeah, haven't torn it off. Probably won't, cuz when attaching LN2/DI container, too big a chance of cracking core.Quote:

I also aggree with that. It depends on how you want the system to run.Quote:

Charlie I expected more though from a CPU like that even with good air. The HTT that U use and the memory FSB is too high for such a low score. I think you didn't optimize your OS for the bench, even though its a bench rig. ;)
My score(attached) is the same as yours(although you're closer to 29, yours goes 28-->30, mine goes 29-->30) but you are 50MHz more on CPU and 25MHz more on RAM with more aggressive timings.
The score below is with stock cooler and Balistix PC3200(2.5-2-2-5-1T).
For the record the CPU is a Newcastle, Model 15, Generation 15, Version 0.6
I got one from monarch this past thursday or fri, their last shipping batch. Can do 2.75ghz at about 1.625v or so. 13% over default on 1.3B6 bios. I can't believe it really. Can't wait to throw it in a prommy :). I was gonna get an FX55 but I might just sell my FX53 and get another one of these and hold out for FX57 :)
know whats funny? I had predicted 3GHz from winchesters on air cooling, although I had my own doubts, it turned out I was partially right. not 100% since at room temp you max out at 2.75GHz at 1.6v but with winter air you hit 3GHz. My prediction didnt really specify temp, but obviously colder air yields higher overclocks. However your example comes closer to my prediction than any other example and shows what winchesters should be and are to come. I am selling my newcastle that will 3dmark at 2.62GHz but crashes often while 3dmarking, not 100% stable. Winchester will be mine pretty soon. Ok I agree there are some bad batches of winchesters that wont even do 2.5GHz and some good ones that do near or at 3GHz with above freezing good air cooling. I wont touch your 3GHz but I will be happy to hit 2.8GHz when I get one. off topic: hows that ti4200 of yours overclock? hit 400/800+ yet? :slobber:
and so it begins....

If you read his posts, you'll see its can only bench at around 2.8GHz, that's not even prime95 stable, so if that CPU hits 2.7-2.75GHz prime95 stable I'd be impressed. 3GHz in my mind is 3GHz Prime95 stable for over 24hours, not "stable enough to get into windows and take screenshot". I'm not saying that the overclock isn't impressive, I'm just saying that we're not at 3GHz just yet.Quote:

Yup, the best 1M sPi was @ 2.83gHz, 15C ambient, not exactly "freezing air".
This isn't a finely tuned benching setup. I set up the cpu/board in a case and loaded WinXP with my broadband hooked up. I've been using it to surf around the house and d/l new drivers and burn some new benching discs. It's NOT a full-blown benching rig, lol.
I have win2Ksp4 here and WinServer 2003 for 3D/Pi benching respectively. Later in the week I'll set up a bench for some REAL overclocking. I just wanted to show what it could do in a case on air with winxp.
A few more notes, my FX-53 (the same one that I ran up to 3441mHz) wouldn't run sPi at 2830.... hehehehehe...
My final goal is about 11 x 310 = 3410mHz, DDR502.... with some 3D north of 3.3gHz....
You know, even the XP-M Bartons were RARE to run 3G+ 24/7 Prime Stable on anything less than 88dB air!
C
Charlie, are you going to use dry ice or LN2?
Gonna try both. My new container is .675 thick and 1300grams of PURE COPPER...Quote:

BTW, Excellent job Charlie!
Before you go all out, I suggest you check on your vapor phase cooling to see if it reboots fine, boots fine etc. At least after CMOS reset, I was able to boot up when I was -50c or south. However, if I save anything in bios... it just won't boot. This sympton didn't exist above -10c. This is with MSI K8N Neo2 bios 1.2, 1.3, 1.35, 1.36, 1.37 as well as Giga K8NS-ultra 939 F2.Quote:

Nope...sorry I have to correct you here:Quote:

I'm anxious to know :stick:
its $180 now at zipzoomfly, any guesses how cheap the retail 3000+ will be by xmas? $160?
Since I just ordered mine I figured I'd ask :DQuote:

The cpu 3200+ oem i got yesterday from monarch was labeled:
CBBFD 0441TPAW
its doing 2.8ghz @ 1.65, but bios and cpu-z reporting 1.58, but that's the max my mem can go 1:1 is 280 and stuck with 10multi.
wow! look at that.... must still be "warm".... fresh outta' the oven!Quote:

WTH - 2.8 @ 1.65V? Do you mean relatively stable by that?
2.8GHz is nice, must be using chilled water too. I have seen 3000+ winchester for $150 at monarch but its oem and old stepping. I want a retail one with heatsink/fan and also a msi k8n neo2.
... And how do you know it's an old stepping?Quote:

How many volts did you give it?

I havent tried more volts or less volts, i thought 1.65v was good enough.
the heatsink on the shuttle is the newer heatpipe w/ a 92mm fan.
edit: just tested 2.7ghz at 1.6v bios, cpu-z reads 1.52v. 31sec superpi.

Hell of a chip you got there.. Doing great even with massive undervolting from the board, it seems.
I just ordered a 3000+ winchester for a new a64 rig, expecting maybe 2.5 tops...then I see this...lol. Then again, it is a 3000+, so 2.5 would be really good.
started at stock and went up to 1.7v. just didn't like anything. :(Quote:

OMG :slobber: seeing these results makes me so curious what I'll get...
Next weekend I'll get my stuff (MSI K8N Neo2 board + 939 cpu... prolly 3200+)
-edit-
Can anyone tell me if that MSI board undervolts or not, please? :D
overvolting is the thing I don't mind ;)

Man.. look at these results! 2.7 Ghz is doable on water.. Mmm.
Charlie where are your jaw-dropping results? :D
Just got a winchester and gigabyte nf3 too! wish me luck on 3GHz. I may or may not hit 3GHz but I will surely try! If the max htt is 300 for that mobo, then 2.7 is all ill have. need 333ht cause max multi is 9.
just got 2 from Monarch, 3500+'s
both suck ass!
won't do 2.7ghz :(
Hopefully the 3500+ winnie i'm ordering from ZZF.com works good.
GF4 what's the stepping?
winnies or nc? steppings please :)Quote:

recently, for some reason people who've been getting chips from monarch are getting a lower week number than me.
as soon as the cpu comes ill tell you the stepping. if you cant hit 2.7GHz, what is the max you hit? have you made sure your ram isnt the one holding you back? run it async just in case. I have been hearing stories how widely winchesters vary in overclock, very inconstant. I have seen them do anywhere from 2.3GHz to 2.8GHz on air 3dmark stable. I am not sure if charlie's 3GHz is 3dmark stable past 2.8 though. does it matter if its a 3000+ or 3500+ do they all have the same probability? because I saw one guy get 2.6GHz stable on his 3000+ and 2.7GHz was good enough for superPI only. Maybe I will get 3GHz like charlie did, who knows

Both 3000+
Looks like you need a week 40+ for a shot at 2700mhz on air.
Edit: Scratch that, The 0437 did the same speed (2250) @ stock vcore as the 0436 and was priming at 2500 when I posted... but it keeps going up. I'm priming @ 2650 right now, so I'd say 2600 isn't too much to hope for stable on air out of it. Knock on wood.

so your selling it for a fx55? some of those fx55 have the same issues like Jasons but Opainters doesnt as long as he uses win2003 and not 2000. fx55s also cost almost 900 bones

I would never run that much volts 24/7 anyway. whatever my cpu does on 1.5v be it. slightly higher for benches
If it's not running hot then 1.7v is fine.
wow, these are some incredible speeds. I cant wait to get my winnie and msi k8n. Just gotta wait for the paycheck to come...
