DDR Maximizer on it's way......More Volts on our Rams....

I've posted this on my local forum here in Hellas since 1-8-2004 (or 8-1-2004)....... :)

I've started this as a poll to our local forum IF they wanted me to manufacture it or not........The votes (over 94%) were YES.......... :D

I was on vacations and I came yesterday so........as ppl asked , I started to design it's cirquit......... ;)

It will be called "DDR Maximizer diagnostic tool" ;)

Here's the link of it.........You have to translate it somehow........ :D

L I N K .......

It will have THREE Led Displays for MORE accurate Voltage reading......ex. 3.47Volts ..... Those led displays will be ON TOP of the PCB and not on it's side , so as the reading of the volts will be easier(don't have to put our heads into the computer's box to read it)...... ;)

Trimmer of 25 turns so as the Voltage trimming will be MORE accurate and "softer"....... ;)

PLUS.......It will have a FRONT PANEL for "anytime trimming"......Not to have our computer's box always open...... ;)

This front panel is been designed for diskette bay and later on for a 5.25 bay........

Here's how the front panel of the DDR Maximizer looks........

Front panel will be optional.......

As you can see there are three led displays , two dip switches(12 and 4) and a trimmer of 25 turns........

The dip swiches(tiny switches on-off) are for the voltage as the trimmer is........When ALL of the dip switches are OFF then the voltage will start from 2.80Volts( I don't think that is nessesary for lower voltage starting).........When the first dip switch is ON , the voltage will be 2.85Volts......When we put AND the second dip switch to ON , then the voltage will be 2.90Volts......When we put AND the third dip switch to ON , then the voltage will be 2.95Volts and so on......The voltage WITH the dip switches will go up to 3.60Volts(for more "secure" reasons) and with the trimmer will be up to 4Volts for more "dangerous" overclocking....... :D

I think that the trimmer is OK timming it with a small screw driver coz if it's biger, it will be out of the front panel and we may "by mistake" touch it somehow and the volts go up suddenly.......

I'm assuming this will be something to go in the ram slots like OCZs Booster ? And since this can have trimmers and adjustments on the front panel, maybe the acutually part that goes in the ram slot will be smaller (thinner) and be more compatable with boards that it won't fit in ?

Wow... Damn good thing front panel is optional. Can you imagine a family member wondering "what this knob does"?

I had an EPOX 4PCA3+.........When I was picking 3.3Volts for the Ram , it was REAL 3.4Volts..........Not a bad mobo.......BUT in high frequency it was about 150MHz lower than ABIT and ASUS.......Do not know why.......

You should get Powered By HiPro case stickers made :)

That looks fantastic, if you could price the whole thing (bay controller + maximizer) to around US $75 or so it would probably be a fantastic seller. The 'extreme' options are very nice, and the more precise display is very welcome:) Good job, I can't wait to try one out:toast:

Will it be slimmer than the OCZ Booster? The current problem with the booster is that on A64 boards, you have to put it in slot 1 to fit if you ahve more than one ram stick. This is a problem for people who's motherboards like the ram to be in slot 1 and then either 2 or 3. :)

The point is, it'd be cool if your DDR Maximizer fit in slot 3 on A64 boards when the other two slots have ram in them.

U P D A T E info........ :D

After a LOT of thought, I came to this conclusion:

1. This panel with an ON – ON switch will show us AND the VTT we have…At the ON position we will be able to see on the display the Vmem (Vdimm) and on the “other” ON position, we will be able to see our VTT voltage so as to know exactly what we have…The accuracy of the Vmem and VTT will be +/- 1%…So we will see the exact voltages we feed our rams despite the mobos hardware monitor that will show us fluctuations.

2. I think that the Front Panel MUST be AND the main circuit as well…Why???…Because the technology runs FAST…what do I mean about that???…Intel has just lunched the DDR2 technology. So a different design…AMD with their new upcoming CPUs with the 250MHz fsb (Intel too) will follow this technology as for my thoughts…So in a few months we WILL need a NEW DDR Maximizer for the DDR2 Rams…and what we will do???…Through away ours and buy a new one for the DDR2 Rams…
NO…I’ll design it IN the front panel so as in the near feature we will have to buy ONLY the PCB for the Ram slots with ONLY A FEW amount of money and NOT a brand new DDR2 Maximizer (loosing our money)…Unplug the PCB for the DDR and plug the PCB for the DDR2…That easy…A jumper will be in the main circuit for the DDR and the DDR2 changes…

Now I want your help…shall I design it for 3.5 bay, for 5.25 bay OR for both of them???…

I agree with Lithan, we dont want accidental voltage increases, maybe a "hold" dip switch like on a mp3 player to disable voltage controls when on?

Also maybe you could make some easy mod kit to do the VTT Tracking mod simly and quickly? I'm not sure how youd do this I dont have experience modding, but thatd be great for guys like me with IC7s etc

Oh and I'd beta test too for sure ;) but I'm all the way in the US.

:D Front panel will be COVERED with a plexyglass.....with a push ON the plexyglass , it'll open so as to trimm everything...... ;)

You have to be carefull, though, because the device will not be compatable with every board on the market. If the OCZ booster doesnt work on it with a "stock" board (no removed circuitry) then its quite likely that no booster of any style will work on the board at all.

VTT issue SOLVED with my DDR Maximizer as for the ABIT IC7 - IC7-G - IC7 Max3 Mobos out there......

I'd like sometime to test A64 Mobos as for that issue too.........

VTT = EQUAL to half of the Vdimm from now on with my DDR Maximizer tool......... :toast: :banana:

I do like your idea of mounting the system in a bay and just using the dimm slot as a feed. I actually suggested someone build a device like this back when I first heard about the temp issues of the booster. Though more for the purpose of not putting a bunch of heat right next to my ram.

Any idea how efficient this device will be?

It's not a "booster" saaya.......It's a "Maximizer"......It maximizes everything I guess...... ;) :D

... what about implementing some kind of lock (like on some Antec cases) so that you need a key to access it, would be kinda nice for us that have kids that could find it interesting to play with :)

A lock, while useful would be bulky and pricey. There is an easier solution.

If you can ship it internationally for a beta test, I would try it out. If you can't I will just wait until you get them retail. Sounds even better than last time. :)

A quality lock and key (as in not one of those plastic pink diary locks) will probably run 4-9$.

Yeah, I agree a lock would be nice. But maybe as an optional front panel replacement. Not everyone will need them, and it will cause a noticable price increase.

he probably just added circuits that split the newly generated vdimm on the maximizer in half and feed it to the vtt pins... easy as that.

Wow I would defintitley test this out on my IC7-Max3 if you need me. I'v always wanted to do the VTT mod but was too lazy to do so (I even got the circuit to do so).

Anyways if you need someone to test this on a IC7-Max3 then I will be more then happy too (so long as its befroe aug. 27, im going away to school then).

Not quite right......Remember that we have to "deal" with the terminator resistors too for the VTT so as our Ram works...... ;)

Sounds awsome, if it tracks vtt on an ic7-g without vtt mod (well cutting a trace is my only issue) Then count me in I'll by one I'll test one I'll advertise them I'll bow down to the master hipro5 for saving my depressed undervolted ocz 3700 eb from the evil 2.8 volt cap :slobber:

id pay cash right now if this product was available review or not. I own a couple of ic7 systems and have always wanted a way to boost the crappy 2.8 vdimm to feed the volts to all the ram i use. Even if i review one or even two I would still probably get round 1 or 2 more for the 4 systems with this board I have.

i got a msi k8n neo -fsr i would beta test this if you wanted. i will also be in suda bay in the next 6 months.
