Heh, find one for the X800's and i'll give it a whirl:D
Rabit:radeon bios tuner V1.3 will do it.
I just can't remember where I got it...
I'll be getting one of those for sure. :toast: Kunaak i really love your keeping us up to date.
DL Broke
the link doesnot work man :(
Found link to version 1.2 @ xtrememods

I have the RAR file of it, but I can't get it to post here, cause you can't use RAR files as attachments, only ZIP files.
but if I ZIP the file, it's too big to attach at 233k.
the RAR file is 183k
but I can't put it as a attachment :(
if someone wants to host it for me, and post it in here for others to download, then PM me and I will email it to you.
Please don't PM me if you just want a copy for yourself, that takes too damn long to email everyone that wants one.
I just hope someone will host it, so others can download it.
Just rename the .rar to .zip and upload it :D
renaming the extension seems to do nothing, it's still a RAR file even after renaming it.
I have to change the file it opens with, but when I do that, the file is unopenable after....
? Upload the rar file renamed to .zip, the board won't know the difference, and people can just rename it back to .rar to open it...
what I am telling you is, I can't rename the file.
changing the extension still means its a rar file.
windows won't change it.
so I can't upload it.
all that happens is it becomes "program.zip.rar"
the ".rar" just adds itself.
EDIT: I see your problem now. In windows explorer go to the Tools Menu -> Folder Options -> View -> Uncheck 'Hide File extensions for known file types'
ok, heres the file.
remember to rename the extension as a RAR file.
cause it's not a zip file.
*sigh* :toast:

i just found this program on antother site about five minutes ago, now about to edit my PNY GT BIOS. Looks like a godsend to me!
funny thing is, we had a post here in the Modded Bios area for like 3 days now.
I just saw it about 20 minutes ago.
the guys got a insane wesite full of Bios's and Bios modding tools.

Çhrist0ph, any results yet? I'm very interested in this.
yeah that guys bios collection is sweet.
Once I can find a damn floppy cable! :brick:Quote:

UPDATE:
Does squat for me, although I think it might work if I didn't have to use stupid coolbits.
I upped my vgpu from 1.4v to 1.5v....didn't give me a single mhz more on the core. Coolbits makes me test it, then it says it failed to run at those speeds.
Also, my card is PNY....my BIOS is EVGA according to this program.
For now, I just modified my BIOS to run my card at stock voltages, but at ULTRA speeds.
I wish I could use powerstrip so badly...but the trial period ran out :( :( :(
reinstall powerstrip, or clock your windows clock backwards ;)
ya, i just reinstalled it, and it worked just like when i first got it. ;)
@LilGator - dont ask for the stuff to be deleted... i didnt know about that hide file extentions thing... someone else may learn that too. ;)
and its all part of the thread, unless its spam let it stay.
Can I use this program for 5900XT?
most likely, try itQuote:

of course, you can use it for any Nvidia bios.
just this was the first to be used for the 6800 cards.
thats why its exciting to me.
but yes, it should work just fine for your FX card too :D
i already modded my bios with x-bios editor, damn. that was harder.
Would this work on say a Ti4200? Also, do you have any links/names for the raddy version (for 9800pro if possible)
Is there a program like this for 9800 or X800???
And does this vGPU work??? Whats the point of the hardmod then???
every bit of BIOS modding software I get usually comes from either here...
http://www.mvktech.net/news.php
or here.
http://softmod.ocfaq.com/bios.php
other then that, Modding a BIOS is really just trial and error and being willing to risk your card, for a chance to do something more with the card then it's suppose to at stock.
theres not much to learn, it's a hell of alot easier then say "driver modding" but then again, its alot riskier too.
some cards just aren't meant to be flashed, like the 9600 XT.
Flashed period??? Or flashed with these programs???
But you could just flash your card back right???
I just downloaded this and the new 1.3 version, and when loading my original BIOS it says 1.4v GPU. Now with the new 1.3 version it says 1.3v (stock). Also I can't edit my memory timings, just my core voltage, and gpu/mem clocks.
Can someone tell me the stock GPU voltage, is it 1.3v or 1.4v?
I have a PNY 6800 GT btw.
so does this work well?
Im very interested as well. Could somebody mabye test this on an eVGA 6800 Ultra?
Also, what is Ultra core stock voltage?
seems to be ver 1.3 out on that guys site...
http://www.mvktech.net/request.php?556
i have a pny 6800 gt and i know for sure that stock vgpu is 1.3vQuote:

Have you tried changing it?
yep, 1.4v gives me a lot more headroom, but heat becomes an issue so i need to upgrade cooling before i can up my vgpu again.Quote:

the 6800u uses a better heatsink than that of the gt correct? wonder if u could get ahold of 1 of them cristoph...

So christ0ph u actually got a higher OC just by changing the volts to 1.4v, but it was unstable because of the heat?
And my temps are at 49c idel, and it never goes above 60c - 62c load. What are ur temps at at stock voltage, and at 1.4v?
This will actually be my first vid card bios flash, so im a little afraid im gonna ruin my BIOS (I did make two back ups though just incase). So I put on nvflash v4.41 and the newly moded BIOS at 1.4v and 400/550 (won't let me change anything else with the new 1.3v version). Can you just tell me if this is the right command... a:\nvflash -p -u -f MODIFIED.rom (I saved the moded bios file as MODIFIED.rom)?
Its 1.3v in 2D Mode.
I suggest you do your tweaking using the 3D Mode clocks while running a game in window mode.
Hey christoph... you verified the boost with a Multimeter?
Anyone knows the measure point for 6800 Non-Ultra Vgpu?
And what's the Thrtl. voltage? It's an option that i can change in Omniextremeedit.
The voltage when it throttles back.
Ok, thks =)Quote:

nope, but im sure it upped the vgpu. My card won't do a single mhz more over 420 on stock vgpu, after the flash i could do 435+...then it would artifact like mad at the end of 3dmark runs or a few minutes into a game.Quote:

@blind_gi
at stock(420/1100) my temps are ~60c idle, 84c load. To flash, all you need to do is type a:\nvflash modified.rom. It didn't work when i typed -p -u -f, don't know why.
Flash back asap if the heat becomes too much for the card.
and yes, i would love to get ahold of a 6800ultra HSF. too bad they aren't sold by themselves :(
I'm trying this as soon as I overclock my Gainward Golden Sample GT. :) I'll see what it can do stock, and then I'll pump in an extra .1 and see where she goes. ;)
Thanks Christ0ph, gonna try in a bit :)
Hopefully it'll be stable, seeing as im running a full 10c cooler then you at idle and load.
How are you measuring the temps?Quote:

are you measuring the temps at stock speeds or overclocked?
I think he is doing it as the speeds in his sig using the temp tool in the nvidia control panel, assuming there is one.
also, if you just play a game for awhile, quit it, then look at the temperature panel in the drivers...your gonna see temps that are 10-20c cooler than what it really runs under a load. You have to use a program like rthdrbl(sp?) in a window to see real temps.Quote:

just run it in a window with the temperature panel on the desktop so you can monitor temps under load.

ver 1.1 reads the voltages wrong and causes problems with most 6800GTs.
Well if you run a game in a window mode you can see that the temps of Nvidia GPUs drop FAST as soon as you close the game and it drops back to 2D mode, lowering the clocks and the volts at the same time.
It literally will lose 10-20c core temp in a matter of seconds.
Where can I grab the new one bud?Quote:

And yea I guess I was just doing the alt tab before, but my idle is still at 49c at these overclocked settings.
I just tried to flash the BIOS and when using nvflash 4.41 the file is called nvfla~h1 (or something to that extent), and when I type in a:\nvflash modified.rom it says bad command (I expected that to happen). I could try using a:\nvfla~h1 modified.rom but im afraid it will screw something up. So should I try and use nvflash 5.08 to flash the BIOS, or is there a better version to do the job?
Edit: Just ran Doom3 in window mode and my load temps reached 72c... still not bad though.
Does anyone know if I can use nvflash 5.08 to flash my BIOS, or does it have to/should be a certain version?
try nvflash ver. 4.41, its the one i use without any problems.
btw, how is your card cooled? Is it in a well ventilated case, how cool is the room its in? We have the exact same card, yet mine runs so much hotter....
Blind G.I. stated in his other post that NVFlash v4.41 isn't working well for him, that is why he inquired about v.5...
Does anyone have a link to a guide on how to flash nvidia cards? I know how for ATI cards, but this must be different, no?
I'm using the windows nvflash to flash my card. Unfortunately, my PNY 6800GT doesn't like additional voltage. I get screen corruption/lockup no matter the speed with 1.4 on the core.
I still have the stock cooling on my card, and yes it is in a well ventiltaed case (26c in summer, and 22c in winter). Right now it is 70f in my room, but in the winter it drops down to 60f-64f. Oh and I have a Smart case fan blowing at med to high on my side window (bassically blowing right on the card).Quote:

The jist of flashing Nvidia cards is this:
First make a back up of ur original BIOS (just get a bootable floppy and when u get to the DOS prompt type a:\nvflash -b backup.rom).
Next just get the BIOS file u want onto another bootable floppy along with nvflash (im not sure which version yet) and when u get to the DOS prompt type a:\nvflash -p -u -f [file name].rom. If that command doesn't work try typing a:\nvflash [file name].rom.
[file name] = whatever u name the BIOS u want to flash to.
Hmm i just tried flashing the card with the new BIOS which just upped the vgpu to 1.4v and set the clocks at 400/550. But when I got back into windows I couldn't get any more mhz out of it, and when I set the card to default the clocks went down to 350/500. Did the flash not work or something? I used v5.08 and typed in a:\nvflash -p -u -f modified.rom, and when I hit enter it just kept telling me to hit enter to continue (it was giving me different commands to type in).
Hmm wierd.
what version of the bios editor are you using? 1.2 worked flawlessly for me, i haven't tried 1.3 yet though.Quote:

Well I just took off nvflash 5.08 and put on 4.41v (I must have got a bad file or something, but this one works now) and tried to flash. But when I flashed it this is what I got:
And yes im using v1.3...
Edit: Should I not put cwsdpmi.exe on the floppy?
hmm, I have no idea what any of that means. It was just a walk in the park for me. Maybe these guys here can help,Quote:

When u flashed it what exactly did u have on ur floppy (aside from the bootable files)?
Did u just put on the .rom and nvflash 1.41?
YES, put BOTH files onto the floppy.
wird i get this weird error after it has already erased the eeprom saying it cant flash... luckily i had backed it up
it loaded backup perfectly... but not edited one.. wierd
edit: says it cannot program a non-page boundary???
heres how I flashed my 6800.
using NVflash 4.42 I back up my original bios, using this command.
"nvflash.exe -b backup.rom"
from there, I reboot, go back into windows, and use omniextreme 1.3 to mod my back up bios, I perfer to mod my own bios that came with the card before looking into other bioses to mod.
after editing things as I want in Omni-I save the file under something easy, like 123.rom
format a floppy with windows XP to a dos boot disk, then extract NVFlash 4.42 to the floppy, and put my modded "123" bios on it.
reboot, then at the A prompt...
"nvflash -p -u -f 123.rom"
(remember, 123.rom is just what I named my modded bios, use the actual bios name after -f, then just let it flash)
so far tonight I flashed my 6800 5-6 times today, messing with the perfect combination of speed and voltages.
my 6800 OC's great at 415/840 from the default of 325/700.
but Doom 3 on the other hand doesn't like high OC's on this particular card, so I set the clock speeds at 365/750.
thats a nice simple little OC that gives a nice boost in speed, and can even handle Doom 3 just fine.
tested with Doom3 and Far Cry so far, and both games work just fine for me, and this is still a relativly unmodded air cooled videocard with nothing more then a modded bios.
it works perfect for me so far.
I got 11,100 on 3dmark2003 and 22,250 on 3dmark2001 with this card so far, it's a plain old EVGA card.
not bad in all honesty.
i figgured it out.. i had to put "nvflash -r" to remove the protection that was giving me that error... seems to have worked... gave me 15 more core mhz
kunaak: is that a GT?
Blind GI: use nvflash 4.46 worked for me with "nvflash -5 -6 -f xxx.rom" commands
nope just a regular 6800.
EVGA 6800 for $280 from newegg-with free far cry.
the bios is modded, and running 365/750 stock now, but thats honestly low for what the card really can do, just doom3 is extremely picky about this card it seems.
69,500 on aquamark3 I just did tonight as well.
took 3rd place for that card, but then again theres not much competion for this card it seems. I could slap some sub zero on this CPU and take #1 for the 6800 on aquamark with about 20 mhz more on my CPU, cause I am just 1000 points away.
not that much fun there, it's too easy :(
heyas kunaak, i also have a 6800 (but it's a Sparkle, not an evga) for like 3 days now... and am having some trouble overclocking it. chip is watercooled and have some revoltec heatsinks (huge) on the card's ram. still, im just getting to 385/816!! anything above that, when "testing settings" just returns error in the nvidia control panel w/ coolbits. i know its not the heat cause the chip is usually about 42/43ºC idle (far far away from the threshold). maybe the ram??i'd be happy with these results, but i know someone who has another 6800NU (though its a MSI i think) and does 950 on the ram easily!!he even got it to run at 975, but he said that the performance went down from 950 to 975. i have a score of 10212 on 3dmark03. any hints? or just a bad card?
kuunak when did u get the 6800? is it for keeps? or will u be upgrading to 6800gt/u? doing what u did with the 5900 series and keep with the low end, but with your oc'ing skills make them almost as good?? :D (unfortunately impossible just with oc'ing as it only has 12 pipes, tried unlocking?)
K im gonna try and flash again, hopefully it works this time.
Edit: K the flash was just succesfull, all I typed this time around was a:\nvflash 123.rom (took ur advice on the 123.rom lol).
Idle temps stayed the same... now lets see if I can get anymore out of her :)
Edit 2: Well when i set my clocks to default it goes to the 420/560 I set it to, but I still can't get any more mhz out of it. This is using v1.3 and just changed the 3d voltage to 1.4v and 2d to 1.3v.
Edit 3: Ok I just raised the 2d voltage to 1.4v and it seems I can get all the way up to 456 core using coolbits! Before I could only hit 430 and now im hitting 26mhz higher! My temps only raised 1c idle (not sure on load temps yet), so temps don't seem to be an issue as of now. But my memory is still at its same 1160, but I could have sworn someone said that there mem raised (it shouldn't be able to clock any higher, but I no someone said it did).
gafa
I don't have any real advice about the 6800, I had no tricks or anything to it, it was a pretty straight forward day, find one benchmark, push the videocard as far as that benchmark will allow, and thats it.
the heatsink is exactly as it came from EVGA, so if theres a thermal pad under there, thats still there.
I haven't even removed it to put thermal paste on the ram and core yet. so other changing the default clock speeds of the bios, the card is pretty much untouched.
I got the 6800 yesterday.Quote:

it's not for keeps, just a temporary thing to play with till my 6800 ultra finally ships. I've had a 6800 ultra paid for from best buy for about 3 months now, and I am still waiting for them to fill the order.
while I did love the 5900 NU, cause that card could come within hundreds of points of beating the FX 5900 Ultra at lots of benchmarks, and my 3dmark2001se score of 27,166 was only recently beaten, so that score stood as number 1 FX 5900 NU score for 6 months, I was very proud of that...
I didnt really choose to try and specialize in the low end cards.
I kinda got thrust into it, I kept wanting a 9800XT, and would get one and it would just suck, I had 3 9800 XT's and each one was a very poor overclocker for me, so I kept using 5900's cause they were so damn cheap at $175 for a BFG.
I think it was more a case of me, doing the best with what I had.
as for the 6800 not being as good as a GT or ultra.
I have a interesting arguement that can change your mind about that :D
Asus, has a 6800, called "the gamers edition", it comes with GDDR3 (unlike normal 6800's with GDDR1) and it uses 256 megs of Vmem, unlike other 6800's.
comes clocked at 350/1000, which is alot different then other 6800's at 325/700
if you could get one of these, then use the software mod that rivatuner offers with 16 pipelines, and if it worked...
then you already have a card as powerful as the 6800GT.
the 6800GT in my opinion should be more then enough to get very very close to the top 6800 Ultra scores, once some high end overclockers with some good cooling and such, use them.
the only difference between these two cards is the NS rating of the ram and the clock speeds.
the clock speeds isn't hard to match, and the NS rating will always be a small problem, but not enough to easily hold you back from matching and beating some 6800 ultras.
if you could get this Asus Gamers Edition 6800, to work with the 16 pipeline mod, that Rivatuner will offer soon...
then theres no doubt in my mind what 6800 will be the one breaking everyones 6800 scores.
so I think it's possible to get a 6800, and be able to match and possibly beat, the 6800 GT and Ultra.
with lots of modding of course ;)
I am using Rivatuner to adjust my clock speeds and for some reason it's it won't pass the test at 440core or 1.23memory...but 435 and 1.22 are completely clean in 3dmark01. I upped my core voltage to 1.4 using the bios editor OmniXtreme v1.3, but still no difference, although my core temp i now 61c when it was 56c before at the same clocks. So I know the extra voltage is there, but it still won't pass any higher. Is there a way to enable low-level overclocking on rivatuner or a different oc utility that doesn't have that test thing?
u can disable the testing in rivatuner...
kuunak - whats vmem? sort've like a swap file on the hdd? lol.
videocard memory.
rofl :D sorry never seen it said that way before, damn i feel noob  :am:
how do you disable?Quote:

raising my 2d as well didnt help at all... still get this weird freezing randomly which will unfreeze after a few seconds
I get the same thing Disposable hero. I upped both my 3d and 2d voltages, 3d to 1.4 and later 1.5 and 2d to 1.4. Both didn't help on their own or togethor. My card is running a cool 60c under load at 420/1.15. So I know my problem isn't temps, so I think it just needs that extra power connector. I have the right mind to mod the second one on to the card. This card is completely clean at 1.2ghz mem and the core is clean at 435mhz. But then suddenly at 440mhz it just freezes and then if I leave it 3dmrking long enough, it'll even blue screen. Voltage just did not do a thing. So I think it just needs more power.
Does anyone know if it is safe to add the extra power connector? Will I overload my caps or anything like that? I don't want to kill my nice card but I'd like to get out of it what I can. Thanks.
to disable clock testing -
. open rivatuner
. select power user tab
. expand "overclocking \ global"
. change disableclocktest to 1
dude you are lucky you're even getting that far... my bfg GT OC can do 226/1.13 coolbits "approved" but does the freeze then unfreeze thing till comp freezes thingQuote:

this is probably going back to bestbuy... and 1.4 didnt help any but have coolbits approve it a little farther
I don't want to return my card, I think it's just craving more power. Does anyone know if I can solder on an extra power connector without damaging the card?
why are you folks messing around with 2d vgpu? Its best left at default/stock....
We messed with it because we hoped it would help. It seemed to help that one dude above me, he got to 450mhz core. I still can't get past 420 and have my mem overclocked at the same time. The card runs really cool at 57c load with default volts at 400/1.1, so I know it isn't a heat issue. But upping the volts in the bios doesn't help either, and as I said before, I think it's because it needs that extra power connector. Or maybe there's a chance my psu isn't giving it the voltage it needs, although I doubt that....
It looks like heat has become an issue for me, seeing as I passed coolbits test at 456/1.16 with 1.4v 3D/2D (need the 1.4v on 2D to get any more out of her) but BF:V just doesn't like to run at any speed with those volts. I didn't do to much testing (was on my way out when I did it), but I will test it a little more today, to see if I can see if it really is a heat issue.
And the reason why upping the 2D voltage helps is because when overclocking u are in 2D mode, not 3D. So just adding extra volts to 3D won't help the overclock in 2D mode (regular windows). Well that is my theory at least, don't know how true it is but its my idea none the less.
My is still caput....I'm so pissed off. If I weren't leaving this here and going to college in a few weeks, I wouldn't care, but I don't have time to deal with this and send it back, I just want to be able to enjoy it.
I gained 20mhz alone on the core by supplying my 'GT with a psu cable free from any other devices running off of it(hdd, cdrom,etc...). Used to only do 400mhz till i noticed that my hdd and a few other things were sucking juice off the same line as my 'GT.
Really... I gotta try that then (wait I don't have any free lines lol).
I'm gonna try that too. At the moment I have a vantec spectrum fan card and two 80mm fans hooked up to the second molex and on the cable and the first molex has my GT. Maybe with nothing on the second it'll do better. Hmmm...

That was one hell of a score Kunaak, couldn't come close to that even though i took spot#2 with 25201, all aircooled.
Shame this Bigsam feels the need to have several scores submitted instead of just one, he took the no1 spot after all so why did he leave all these score's up?
Sorry for this offtopic talk. ;)
