Gainward MX 460

In the beggining I must say I'm very new to vmods :-). The next thing You must know is that I've heard very good things about this forum, and how you help people with their o/c problems ;-). Anyway I've got this 'new' card to play with (getting some money for some real hot stuff like x800 or 6800 :-)) and I decided to break the world record in 3dmark2001SE :-))) (in this card category ofc :P)...

I think what you have to mod is the chip IOR 3037A and the chip RT9164 ...

How? When am I going to check the current voltage? Are you sure about this? :-). I don't want to damage the card and this is my FIRST vmod ever ;-).

Try checking the voltages on the spot cirlced in green.

Post the markings on the chip circled in yellow.

The IOR3037A is a Vref regulator on the 9700 cards.

Meaby this will help...

I did a few mesurements...

Yeh, I thinks that prob right with the core and mem readings.

I still need to know what the markings are on the chips tho.

Also, can you give me a reading on the small chip that I circled in the pic a couple of posts up? Its the one near the bottom of the card. To the left of where you measure 4.71v.

I dunno what it is 1,57v, the same voltage is going to adj pin on us1150. It's AGP voltage because when i change vagp it have the same value.

And why on first chip is 1,47v and on second is 1,45v? Is'nt it the same voltage?

It is a mem max or some small chip can't handle more load?

Are you sure that vmem is done corectly? Meaby you aren't increasing the voltage of the memory but something else :P

Yeah, i'm 100% sure. I just done vcore mod. And finally i'm happy ;]

stock voltage (1,6/2,8v) 375/700mhz
raised voltage (1,8/3,5v) 430/700mhz

i'm not going to give more V, because there is stock cooling, but it will be changed :)

I just wonder why this crazy mem isn't able to overclock any more... shame on you samsung!

Yes, decreasing resistance is goint to rise voltage.

Mem isnt able to more oc because it have wrong timings i think.
Maybe flashing bios from mx that have TSOP memory will help but i'm not sure about it.

Could use rabit-like tool, eh? I didn't see anything like it for nvidia's cards.

I think increasing vddq could be helpful.

No. Not a bit. But I'm afraid that you won't post your new ideas about mem tweaking and stuff, because a kind of a competition is going to emerge. I don't feel very confident if it's about electronics, soldering and this kind of things, so...

I've got one more question. When you rise vmem - does memory produce noticible more amount of heat?

Yes, mem are heating more. And i wont do any other vmods, i am runing 2,1v/2,8v and this is max, I unsolder my vmem mod after 5 minuts of using it. Only one idea that i now have is gpu lapping and better cooling (artifacts on 480mhz).

Let's make it a friendly challange :P. I'm not gonna risk loosing any amount of beer (it's precious to me :P)

use a 10k pot and set it @ 10k ohm before turn the PC on. here is the trimmer, and the black wire you see is soldered on the positive of the capacitor to read vmem:

i used the ground of the fan connector... now i'll check if i can find a photo of the back of the videocard to let you see where to solder the wire for the gpu - mod.

Oh, i forgot: in the last photo u can see a red wire soldered on the positive of the capacitor: there u can read v gpu.

Thx NiLus, but I've seen those pic's already. I'd be plesed if you just make this mods in ms paint using our scanned graphic cards ;P.

vGPU u can do it in raven way.

For vmem mod is the same... you can do it as i did or as raven did. In my photo you can see the two black wire-rapping wires solderes on the smd resistor. Use the pot as usual (the pin in the middle and one of the others as raven showed u).

Where do you read vmem? Use the capacitor i told you.

in mx460 vmem mod gives you ~3mhz? i don't have it on my card now.

NiLUS, can you give me some numbers.. i mean gpu mhz with and without TEC?

Mine did 408 / 712 max... but for 408 MHz on GPU i need 20°C H2O or less. max 29°C it runs @ 406 MHz.
Unfortunatly my 440 is dead.
I didn't try it without TEC. After a few days when i did the mod I installed TEC on GPU. By the way there is not a lot of difference using or not using TEC. I used a 100w, and @ 2v on GPU, when running 3D Mark, in Lobby benchs cold plate temperature is not cold... You need at least a 150w to run 3d mark completly. I think that with a 100w the difference is about less than 5 MHz.

I only remember that without any mod and stock cooling it runs @ 350/660 more or less...

That is no good news :(. I am about to use 86W TEC but now I think it's pointless... Damn.

86W of electric power o thermic power?

what will u use over the hot side of the TEC ? WB, i hope... BTW as coldplate use a 5mm cu (i used 4mm al cos it was the only i had at that moment) , now i did some tests and i saw that it is the best to use.

89W is it's thermal power. (86W was a mistake of mine)

I've got 89W TEC that has this 89Watts on 15,4V :-). I've put it on 12V so it's effectivness will fall down a bit.

And ofc. i'm gonna cool with with a water block :-).

So... i think it's enough...

i used a 100w electrical power that is 8.5A * 12 V
If a 226W is 375W of electrical power @ 15v it means that the efficiency is about 60%, then the TEC i used on the GPU could be 60w thermic power... yours is best than mine so it could be enough.

Well yes but... it has 89W while beeing plugged into a source that gives 15,4V and I only have 12V power line in my PSU ;-). I measured how many ampers it's eating and the result is not very positive ;-) (it's because TEC don't have linear resistance :/). I've got 6,2A@12V which gives me 75W of electric power consumed. The olny good news is that when lowering the voltage the gap between thermal and electrical power get's smaller and smaller, and there's even a moment when the thermal power is above electrical :-). We'll see... if it's now enough. If not - I'll build a dedicated power suply.

Is the best thing to do. I did with a 0,5 kW @ 15v that is enough for my pelts.

Anyway, tec's resistance should be:

so, with a 226/375 it could be

15/25 = 0.6

then if i use 12v i must have 20A and then 240W electric that is about 150W thermic. Do this calcs with ur values :)

I haven't have a photo in this moment,the pcb is different

It uses the TI4400 PCB and runs at the TI4400 stock speeds. Its basicly a TI4400 IIRC.

With the output voltage capable by the IRU3004, it could control Vgpu, or Vddr, or both.

The IRU3004 could also be playing a hand in regulation of the other components you listed.

You need to do some connectivity tests between the chips you pointed out (1, 2, and 4) to see if they are connected to any pins on #3.

Also, see what chips are directly connected to the voltage read points on the card.

Someone have some idea for vddq mod for mx460 gainward (same pcb)?
What you think about make additionally power connector (like in radeon 9800/x800) - it should take more stable voltage :)
