But at 5ghz you only have a bus speed of 238 So the EE's still lay the smackdown. But its got to be getting fairly close to the level of the EE with 5ghz... I wish these guys would do some 3d runs :(

Well I was just using 5Ghz as a random number...I don't see why 245x21 shouldn't be benchable through 3D, maybe even 250 but that might be pushing it.
I totally agree with SoulBurner on this one.. superPi is a benchmark and is very good bench. Give superPi some respect too. It's okay, it's okay to be jealous.. I'm jealous too, but you still gotta give the man credits.. like what i'm doing. That is a great superPi achievement.
Still, impressive none the less.
If he can bench 23s of super pi, he can certainly run one game test at a time at maybe 5300

Would be very interesting to see how such insane clockspeed does in 3DMark car hi and lobbys. I tried my 2.8E @ 4.3GHz or so (~310FSB 5:4) and scored 160FPS in lobby hi. Thats pretty much the only prescott Lobby hi result I've seen so far..
PS. whats the heat output of a 5.5GHz Prescott at 1.65V? :D

MEMSAMAs machine does 55xx ( P4 ) 23s at LN2 at -198 Degres.
Can he run 32M.. ?

Of course, that assumes that each person only bought one cpu. If you buy 30 cpu's before you get a gold one, then you can't very well brag about what a value your gold cpu is since it only cost $100, despite the fact that you spent $3000 finding it.

You also need to understand that as we crank the times down lower and lower, it gets harder and harder and takes more clock speed to knock off 1 more second.
Going from 24s to 23s is a "LOT" harder than going from 30s to 29s...
For an example that is easier to understand...imagine going from 2 seconds to 1 second...that would take double the processing power that it took to calculate Pi in 2 seconds...
I wish i had a 5ghz+ cpu lol, i doubt ill have one that fast anytime soon, maybe my watercooling can push my 2.4c a little farther though.. congrats to him though

With LN2 the CPU is about -9XC right??? So...
And i would rather have 24/7 -118C cooling for 8000$ than LN2 for 600$ for about 10 min... Hehe-...

Toms cascade evap base is -112C,
ln2 cooler base can be anything from -190C to -100C (depending on how cold you want to go).
ln2 does't cost 600$ its more like 60$ (or less if you know the right people :D)
And Ln2 gives you a lot more benching time than 10mins..

the liquid nitrogen may be -192C ....BUT you are forgeting that the base of the container is more like -100C. nitrogen creates a boundary layer when it evaporates that lowers conductivity. this is the reason that some people have dipped fingers into the nitrogen and pulled them out quickly without harm (DO NOT ATTEMPT)

Tom's cascade is just as cold on die as that ln2. pc ice's 4 stage cascade will make both look like a think of the past.

Funny thing is his score scales ~= with people running EE's I've seen. So it looks that EE's have little or no advantage over A's in superpi... which is a little wierd.
Prescott scales better with clockspeed than northwood and gallatin, at slower speeds below 4ghz or so Id say gallatin is the fastest but once you get up to those extreme clocks around 5ghz or so Prescott starts to get faster.Quote:

Why would that happen? I was under the impression that Gallatin did more work per clock cycle, so it should scale better than prescotts.

the L2 cache on prescotts wont reach the same speeds at Northwoods until it hits 5ghz. because the prescott ram runs at higher latencies.
also the longer pipeline makes the processor less efficient because if there is an error it has to take longer to fix it than if the pipeline were shorter, but if this longer pipeline allow higher clockspeeds which it does, at some point those increase in clockspeeds would make up for the lowered efficency, and i believe this nuber is somewhere aroun 4ghz for prescotts, give or take 200mhz

I took 2 examples of high clocked ee's at 1:1 250+FSB on BH5. Then I took lower clocked examples at ~the same fsb/ram settings. calculated the ~ impact regarding %clockspeed increase against %time taken for result decrease. To figure what a 25% clockspeed increase in a 4.4ghz clocked EE would give (5.5ghz). My results gave me 23sec.
The LN2 Container alone cost 600 dollars ( approx 3700 dkr), for the SMALLEST container ( 10 litres) the biggest, almost 1000 dollars..Quote:

Like Macci said, the LN2 BASE CAN be COLD...like -170C or so... it just depends on what number you're SHOOTING for. Add too much LN2 and it might hit -190C and the rig may BSOD....

But EE is running with more cache, if you had a Prescott with 1.mb L2 and 1.5mb L3 (making Prescott and Gallatin even at 2.5mb cache total) then the Prescott should beat the EE at the same clocks, hopefully well see one soon :DQuote:

Hmmm... I got the perfect solution. Get your computer up in space (where its close to absolute zero : -273C) and hopefully, you can use cascade style vapour cooling or LN2 or even liquid Helium... hopefully the ambient coldness of space would keep the Helium/LN2 liquid longer...
(ofcourse you wouldn't just pour it in because of the lack of pressure it would vapourize... hence teh "cacade style vapour cooling")

Depending on the strength of the container the LN2 is in... either it wouldn't absorb the heat (due to its inability to expand) or it would explode and vaporize... possibly impaling you with shrapnel.
