Pifast Benchmark

Well a few of us over at OCUK have been running the Pifast bench recently so I set up a quick website to submit scores.

mate are you limited by your rimms at 177X3 ?
Cause if thats so then i can laugh at you since mine
do 216X3 but my cpu craps out at 154Fsb (at 1.6V)

Nope they go furter, I'm CPU limited about 180mhz FSB. 177 is my normal stable speed.

My RIMMS can do 145 4x, so 193 3x.

K i see. My RIMMS can do up to 160X4 with the volt mod but the cpu is a piece of sh*t and will not do even that much :stick: . But its a very nice mobo and it used to belong to Orifice. He has done an exceptional job on the mods especially the drcgs :)

I've done this one..... I dunno if they're the same. This was a while back, if my AMD HD wasn't fried, I'd fire it up @ 2.1ghz ;)

Nope not the same sys :).

I get 43 seconds on the 1M super pi test :). Youre probably looking at about 73 seconds for pifast with the above super pi score. Maybe 67 or so @ 2100mhz :p.

You equalled my prev score so I thought Id re-run it without downloading at the same time :p.

Go on m8 - go for more :).

besides - im dying to try it without mbm, winamp, soundcard mixer, printer utility, scanner utility and USB monitors running :p. May even disable the via usb chip for you - got 7 devices running off it atm. Reckon I could maybe crack 60.2, but I doubt below 60 is possible without upping the FSb by around 2 or 3mhz.

Race you to below 60 seconds :D.

3622mhz, USB disabled, IDE channels disabled, FDD disabled, all taskbar programs disabled via msconfig and taskbar itself disabled, plus a few other tweaks (cant give ALL my secrets away can I?). Basically ran in my 3dmark config but managed 1mhz more fsb than I can 3dmark at :).

Congratulations PiLsY you Win the Pifast Benchmark !! ;)

Even with USB disabled the maximum my Corsair go is 228 but only at Cas 2.5.

With this speed the better I can do is 60:52

In fact Cosair only warrant this memory for 200mhz (400DDR) at Cas 2.5 ..so not bad the extra 28mhz (456DDR).

What memory sticks are you using??

Winbond BH-5 chips on a 3rd party Apacer PCB. Its not even a 6-layer CPB :). So much for Corsair huh?

Mines only guaranteed to 2.5/6/3/3 @ 200mhz (true DDR400), but can actually go all the way to 240mhz on a decent board.

Im looking for a stick to match it now in preparation for the dual ddr boards.

Couldn't resist seeing what the 2200+ XP would do in comparo. I await a rev b T-bred and will run your bench again at a more favorable CPU speed and see how AMD fares.:) Very nice bench .bat by the way..cheers !

MrIcee, nice one breaking my AMD score to go fastest AMD so far :) I was hoping for <70s but it wasn't happening on that motherboard (no fsb choices other than 133 and 166 worked) so I had to restort to ram timing tweaks.

Well done PiLsY for < 60s. Nice to see the Xtreme guys playing too :)

Working on a sub 59 now. Got it a bit lower so far, not gonna bother sticking the result up until im under 59s though :).

Cmon pedro - dont tell me youve given up already? :D.

Nice result with that nforce2 board rys - shame about the FSB options though. Which particular board was that on? Asus by any chance?

EDIT: You AMD guys running WinXP are handicapping yourselves, XP has a tendency on an AMD system to suck the bandwidth down severly. Witness Car and Lobby in 3DMark2001, in which an identical system and settings running XP, 98 and 2000 put Win 2000/SP2 ahead of the other 2 in FPS. Just an observation on my part but the switch made a tremendous difference for me in bandwidth.

Yeah, A7N8X. I had 180fsb working for a morning the day after I got the board, 2333MHz and 180MHz mem @ CL2.0, 2-2-2 would have flown.

Ah well, I'll pester AMD for another system to play with for a wee while, hopefully they'll oblige :)

Should be someone else under 60s soon I think too ;)

I've actually never run that bench before. I'm smack in the middle of working out any bugs in my new H2O setup, as well as unlocking a new 1600+ that I purchased and was able to hit 2100MHz w/ on air(not stable). I've got my original 1600+ clocking higher than it ever has now w/ the water, so I'm very confident in the clocks I'll be able to hit w/ this new chip once its unlocked. When I'm finished w/ all this stuff I've been doing in the past couple weeks PC-wise(been hectic) I definitely need to do some benching as I haven't run 3DMark since the 29.17 Detonators, and I've got better cooling on both my CPU & GPU now :)

P.S. Also been folding 24/7 for our team as it appears we are in a fierce 3-way battle to the top :D
So, I've sorta been doing my part...slacking nonetheless tho ;)

Mulling over the ##'s it looks like it will take an amd @ 200fsb about 2.75 ghz of speed to over run a p4 running pilsy's 3.6 p4 and memory. sysfailur is the closest.. erm was :) (2.6+)

Well , I top the table. If you are Australian and looking at it upside down of course. :)

I just did my home machine and got my XP1600@1660MHz to 96.00 seconds.

My friend at work has a 2.53GHz P4 running in a Dell ( presumably a 845 motherboard ) and he took 141 seconds. This seems awfully slow ...

Interestingly, he thinks it's pretty fast, as I told him the score of the PIII at 650Mhz. :eek:

Heh, well here's my next two best... Funny thing, out of no where my multiplier changed to 7.... so I was like... ehh, wtf? And I tried changing it and it worked!!!! So apparently my cpu is unlocked now! hahah Anyway, the first pic is before unlock, and the 2nd one is after. Notice that I'm like 35mhz slower, but my fsb is juiced up, and the scores are about the same. This tells you that the overall score is more strictly mhz it seems....

Omg, I'm getting so frustrated. My temps are perfectly fine @ 2.5ghz--I'm doing 216x11.5 (approximately) and It goes to "Series computing time: 52.04" is what I've been getting, and then the damn thing doesn't go any further but continues to "think" but it never finishes. Have I broke the program or something? I mean I can cancel it, and then try it again and it goes to the same spot and stops! ARGH! I would have an amazingly fast score!

I just did some theoretical calculating, and it would seem that if i was getting 52.04, I would get an overall time of 65.34 approximately. >_< If you want I can screencap it no problem, but it just won't go past the "Series computing time".

I don't understand why it would hang though in the same spot, I mean I'd really like to get it to go at that speed. Going back defeats the purpose heh. I can run all sorts of stuff at this speed, but this benchmark refuses to go past that spot for some reason. :\

Because your system is not stable enough to complete the bench at that speed. Period. I found the same thing, my friend, with my own system, you have to back off a Mhz at a time until it completes the bench:)

Well then this benchmark must have a magical ability to utilize the cpu more than super_pi and seti@home combined together. I'm tellin ya, my comp. is stable at that speed. My temps are fine, but it won't complete it. When my comp isn't stable it will get to like maybe 4 or 5 and then say "pi error". That happens all the way up from 2525 up to 2600. I think the cpu needs some more juice is what I think :P

Try running a little Prime95 on your system. I've noticed that I can get SuperPi to run even when my computer isn't 100%. I think SuperPi is a good test, then this PiFast is the next step, and then Prime95 is kinda like the torture test for your processor and memory. ;)

What kind of times are you getting when you scale back 1MHz? It's got to be better than the current AMD high, right?

Well I did lots of benching today... and b/c I got so pissed at my 2400+/8k5a3+.... (it decided not to give me multipliers again today) I decided to teach my mobo a lesson and in windows I upped my FSB to 337mhz, and in the process fried the 85ka3+. I am not saddened at all by this loss. The motherboard was asking for it. I then decided since it was fried to try the 2400+ on my KD7 motherboard. The proc, ram, and everything else attached to the 8k5a3+ is fine, _AND_ the multipliers ALL work on the KD7. So apparently the 8k5a3+ doesn't support jack sh*t--at least w/ or w/o the 5th L3 connected.

So after I tested all that I then decided to play w/ my p4... I pin modded it, got it up to 3060, and put my 4200 on the p4, and achieved the 14th best 4200 score. *Twirls flag* (Will post more on this in the 3dmark forum later).

So anyway, out of this I have learned that the 2400+ and 8k5a3+ is not a good combo. I'm going to pick up a AT7-MAX2 instead and use that.

FYI -

The pifast benchmark stresses MUCH more than seti and super pi. You need ot be able to complete at least a 32m pi test to match the pifast bench for stability. It also pushes temps much lower than super pi. The only thing that hits the temps even more than pifast is seti at the very start of a work unit. However, the pifast test seems to hit the cpu harder despite this.

Remember as well that seti will run all the same even if your results are getting corrupted. Its only in extremely unstable circumstances that seti will cause a crash.

A few other good stability tests -

My first choice is always memtest. This proggy is awesome. Leave test 4 looping to hammer your cpu or test 5 to hammer your memory. If you can loop either for 3 hours or more youre totally stable.

Folding - Better for burning in than stability testing due ot the time involved.

Games - total annihalation to hammer the cpu. This proggy is very succeptible to crashes if your cpu is clocked too hard. Jedi Knight - Outcast - again hammers the cpu very hard.

DVD ripping - hammers the memory more than cpu, but works both hard. A very good cimbination for burning in is to loop test 4 on memtest for 3 hours, test 5 for 3 hours, rip a dvd then complete a folding unit. After that you should gain a fair amount. First run of the above youll get 1 maybe 2mhz. After that the time at which your mhz increases decreases. It may take several loops of the whole process above to gain a single mhz after a while. Generally speaking your first week gains you 5mhz, second week 3mhz, 3rd week 1mhz then every 2 weeks to a month or so thereafter for a single mhz. Dont forget that cpus are tending to show less and less increase in speed form burning in nowadays.

On the issue of stability and what to test for then I always run CPUMark99

Why cpumark99 ? Well, if it doesn't run this then it aint going to run any other benchmark successfully. It only takes 30 seconds to run and immediately gives you an indication if your BIOS / jumpers are not quite right.

Someone emailed me the other day that cpumark99 was outdated, but it can't be because it scales exactly like the cpu PCMark scores do, so if you get a 10% increase on cpumark99 then you do on PCMark !

And it takes a lot less time to run.

Yikes, nice one JC :) Looks like < 55s is the next big target for the big boys. < 70s is still a decent target for everyone else, < 65s if you have a bit more muscle than the average overclocker and < 60s if you and your P4 are feeling particularly frisky.

Glad to see people enjoying the bench I helped cook up one boring afternoon :)

Thought I'd join your fun....

Used to have an impressive score on that table, now I am just a nobody hovering above the AMD users....

Looks like I gonna have to have another go when I get me granite bay and new P4.....

The 2.26 wont last at that speed for more than 20 mins or so without a blue screen, so I leave it at 3008 for 24/7 running...

Prometeia is the daddeh tho :D

Andy ( Home ) is now up to 84.5 seconds with 1815 Mhz @ 173MHz RAM speed. All other settings same.

Actually, I am just waiting for the processor to cool down as I am attempting a run at 1826 but it keeps crashing near the end as it is fairly stretched.

I just managed my first ever SuperPi under 1 minute as well tonight, 58 seconds.

I wonder if the large FSB of the P4 aids it so much or whether it is mainly the 512KB cache, or maybe both?

If it's the cache then Barton should help AMD , in the meantime it will be interesting to see if the nforce 2 in a couple of weeks with it's 10% better memory controller knocks a bit off.

Then of course will Hyperthreading help the P4 ?

It is mainly the pure speed that helps the P4 in the Pifast bench. Very CPU aimed benchmark.

Hay this is a fun test :D

Just ran it for the very first time with a 2.8Gigger clocked to 3730MHz (w/ P4T533-C mobo) and got a result of 56.78 :)
Looks like RDRAM is a bit faster than DDR on this particular test.
Also ran SuperPi at 3740MHz and got a result of 40seconds.
PiFast ver. 3.3 1M was 25.03 at 3740MHz.

Will upload some pics once I finish this benching session... ;)

j/k very nice work there m8, those RDRAM boards are still pretty nice! Still I gotto tell you its pretty frustrating to work with a f*cking aircooled celeron at 2.8G and a dead cooling system :(

Ok so much for that little 'OC session' :P

no new 3dmark scores thanks to POS Corsair 3500 module <- it couldn't even beat my old sammy 2700 =)

hmmm... I couldnt get the IT7-MAX2 to overclock past 228-230 mem with Corsair 3200/3500 , but on the old IT7 (red box) it does go to about 240 2/7/2/3. Maybe the board just likes the Samsung better rather than the Corsair being bad m8...
