let us know how far she'll go...and welcome to XS!
cheers dude :)
Interesting... S-Spec shows a vcore of 1.25-1.4V...
http://processorfinder.intel.com/scr...ALL&CorSpd=ALL
how cheap is "really cheap"? :D just curious what u could manage to get one of these sexy chips for
thats the new stepping one with lower voltage requirements.. i bet it will overclock easily over 4ghz.. maybe even to like 4.2
where did you get it from?
Hurry up and give us some results, I would like to see the overclockablity of this new stepping :D
yeah what Blind_GI said! ;)
Right guys .......... Some good news, and bad news .. :(
recived the cpu today .. seems to work great at stock ....
but stock voltage it sets its self is ....
1.55volts (max3) boots up not very stable. :(
so I had to increase my core voltage up 1 notch ... to 1.57v and works flawlesly
So I decided to do some fun, with the cpu.
so i turn the voltage up :D to 1.675v and upped the fsb to make it 4.2ghz (nice round number) rebooted .. and Beeped it posted and started going into windows, on my desktop it crashed, before it did, i looked at the temp and it was on 67c :o
so I rebooted, and on stock volts (1.57) and started to mess about with FSB, eventually i got 3915.9mhz :D nearly 4 gig.
So i aimed for 4 gig, and it wouldnt have it ... temps would increase 2 quick and wasnt stable for more then ..... 30 mins.
atm my temps are 44@idle and 55@ full load ... :(
iam using an slk with an 80 mm fan running at 3000rpm, (near silent)
I think my cooling is an issue here. :(
here my screen shot
before i plugged it in, and noticed that the cpu had 30 caps.
( those little blocks)
I got it for 300$ which i think is very resonable as ..... they are selling for £300.00 pounds in the uk
That looks like a Prescott failed(hot, rated voltage, difficulty at stock voltage).....
im gona give my hdd a wipe and reinstall every thing, and chck to see if the o/s was causing the problem.
if it wont run at stock voltage rma it.
i think the problem is my o/s being bad instlation.
(also reseated h/f) Iam using generic compound,
i need to buy arctic silver
Im running at stock volatge atm, and running at stock cpu speed
and seems to be doing cpu bench mark in SiSoft perfectly fine.
beeing ruuing as a high task job for 2 hours.
 130nm, 512kbQuote:

Prescott = 90nm & 1mb,
Good thing I didn't rush out & grab one of those suckers, glad I got my lil 'ol 3Ghz chip:D.
Quite happy at 4.17Ghz atm...
Got 3.75Ghz (250fsb 1:1) with the stock cooler (with 1 broken fan blade)....Prime95 stable & all the usual benching OCing tests passed....
/me wonders what one of them would've done with me Vapo PE...
Cheers,
Minnyboy
what are your cpu voltage reading in Cpuid ?
what are your temps ?
ibby
Skate2snow is right, that could be a failed prescott core, because of the low vcore. interesting... that's why it's running so hot at 67c!
that is at 3000rpm and at 4.2 gig and it wasnt very stable .. :(
maybe i need a new cooler. or fan
If that's directed at me, it has been a while since I had it aircooled...Quote:

15x250fsb @ 1.575v (reported as 1.55v under load as reported by MBM5, Cpu-Z etc)..
Temps were 40c something idle, 58c under load iirc...
Gotta dig into my hdd to see if I still got some screenies of me benchmarking etc w/ the stock cooler...
Kanavit, if failed Prescott core....Why 130nm:confused: Wouldn't it be 90nm???
ibby, can ya post a screenie of Cpu-Z to show us what sized die it's based on...
I could've sworn NW 800fsb "C" CPU were all 130nm (0.13nm) & the "Prescott's" were all 90nm (0.09nm)....
Cheers,
Minnyboy
screen shot is at the top ...... :)Quote:

i ran out yesterday, and i am using standard compound.
it says 0.13
but my BIOS doesnt give me a setting to lower the voltage .. why is that ? lowest voltage i can select is 1.55v
(abit max 3)
Silly me missed it altogether.....Unless Cpu-Z has a bug with "failed" Prescott cores, this is a geniune NW 130nm...Quote:

Must be that the default vcore on those power hungry things are 1.55v even though the S-Spec says 1.25v-1.4v...
First thing I did with the stock cooler was rip off that themral pad & put some AS Ceramique in it's place. Definitely get yourself some more AS 5 or Ceramique...
A better cooler would definitely be the way to go mate. Thermalright SP94 + Delta 92mm fan rules;) for aircooling anyways...
Cheers,
Minnyboy
This is not a failed prescott, but this is the brand new stepping that was supposed to lower temps and up the clocks. I think the owner needs to go out and buy a regular HSF combo and some as5 so we can see what these things are capable of.
Just a shot in the dark, but what bios ver. are you using.
Bios 1.3 and below don't support the 3.4C, 3.4EE or the prescotts you need to have bios 1.4 or 1.5 to get the right voltages.
im getting as5 tommorw and goig to flash pc with bios 15 tommorow
but after alot of messing about it is runing at 3.743 @stock volts and temps idle @40c ful load 50ish
will keep you gues informed
ibby that's an awesome 3.4C much better than mine http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...threadid=33593 sigh
My IC7 MAX-3 Died last night :(
Ive sent it back to the supplier
currently using DFI infinity 865PE
using the gat/Pat feature it is up to 3.75@stock volts,
time to due more tweaking :D
this is seriously not a bad mobo ..
ok, i can get 3.8 @ 1.7 volts (BIOS)
seems to be undervolting ... im waiting for my replacment now ...
Hey there ibby & eberyone else here, just thought I'd say hello to you all... this is my first post on here...
I recieved my SL793 3.4ghz Northy the other day. I bought it from someone on ebay.
It had never been used and arrived in a earing case (??) just loose and rattling around... (where it came from , god only knows ;) )
I didn't hold many hoeps for the Chips potential but OMG! its great!
I ran it for an hour at 200fsb, then 210, then 220, 230, 240... i was starting to get giddy but it wouldnt get stable at 250fsb (4250mhz).
However, I have now bumped up the vCore to 1.75v (No v.mods on my P4C800E-dlx yet) and it is rock stable at 245fsb :)
I don't know whether its gonna be worth/safe trying 1.8vCore to get 250fsb+
Whats your opinions?
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7755704
cash man, what does it say your cpu is reciving under load in cpu z ?
Nice to see u and welcome
Been messing with this dfi mobo
and its not doing 2 bad .. its got up to 3.819 Mhz
and thats on stock volts Iam impressed with this cheap mobo
s cpuz screen
Hey cash,
welcome to XS bro. this is a very nice forum and a good place to find some "hard to find" information. good to see that you are broadning your horizon. ;)
my 3.4 hit a wall at 230fsb unfortuantly. :( good luck to all of you with 3.4's.
Hey bro ;) It's good to see so many familiar faces on here... Overclocking must be a small world after all!
Whats up with your Vapochill man?
Ibby> That is a screenie of the CPU under load... my mobo overvolts at idle and undervolts at load.
1.8vCore idle = 1.902 reported
1.8vCore load = 1.72 reported.
I need the Droop mod sharpish!
Hey Guys I'm a new guy to the forums :) I have intel setup my 3.40c Ghz well not run at 4.00c Ghz . I'm runing the IC7 MAX-3 mobo this is a good mobo:) ... I need help to get me at 4.00Ghz.... I like to post a pic of my setup on the forums... ?
right st of all, for us to help u mate u need to tell us
1)
what voltage u are running,
2)
what overclock have u achived
3)
what bios u are using
4)
what kind of cooling
5) and the full spec of your system,
ibby
Hey. I'm Runing a Koolance. setup It on my Abit-max-3 mobo The cpu is a 3.40 runing at 3.85 I have a Asus 9800xt card is runing a Cool-Matic ATi Cooler is on a Thermaltake Aquarius II liquid cooling setup. The bios is 14. My ram is OCZ two 512 4200. the timing is 2.5-4-4-8. The ram is ddrv 2.9. The vcore 1.65. my temp is 45 in bios.......
the screen shot of the 3.915 .. is that stable ?
have u gave it any more voltage on the core ?
I think Mr-Timbo must change your mem ratio and then I think you can overclock more
Hey. It run ok but not too stable. but I can run good at 3.85g 1.65.If i can run it at 4.00g. useing 1.75v is this good r not...
Hey FallenAngel. You play cs. This [0SC]mr-timbo:)
What is cs?
i can post and load windows 4 gig, but it isnt very stable
cs = counter strike .
what psu are u using #?
I never played that game, why the wuestion about CounterStrike?
My PSU as is in my sig is a NoiseBlocker 480W 2x Silentfan S2 <19dB, it's a Germany brand
Blacknoise/NoiseBlocker Shop site
you can choose english, though they are worse than me writing english, I live in Luxembourg but I don't understand german
I think these guys are the masters of silence, though I love Thermaltake and Enermax for their products
I have a Aspire 500W dual fan aluminum power supply. This is my setup.
I use 1.725 to oc my 2.4C into a 3.2 and I don't see a problem it's stable after 3dMark2k1 and other benchs, some games and then working in Photoshop, no prob till now, ey but is a 2.4 not a 3.4 so I dont knowQuote:
