NF7 with vdimm/vdd/vbt mod = Nice

After running with DFI for a while I thought I would give the NF7-S a go what with all these new mods popping up :D

I have done the Vdimm mod as shown in the motherboard faq article . I also did the vdd and vbt as shown by tictac here :http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&pagenumber=6

My voltages are 2.06v Vcore , 1.7v VDD/AGP and 3.3v Vdimm .

Running 240x11.5 more stable than I have ever had an NF7-S board

I am also using a mobile 2400+ with the L12 mod .

With APIC on the score would be over 22000 easy ;) But it just wont run at these speeds with APIC on :(

Before the vdd boost and vbt mod I was never stable over 225 fsb on the same board ( even with the vdimm mod I did first )

For some reason I cant go much higher because I have a board that likes 1.5v vdd for more fsb and that voltage wont be enough for the vbt on the ram . Sort of a catch 22 situation there

Tictac great work man I would like to know if the vbt mod could in any way be derived from the AGP voltage ? It would help alot if it could .

Keep up the good work guys :D . Its good to be back on the NF7-S scene instead of the DFI boards . I just love that I can power up my PC and it boots first time and everytime ;)

I cant get to 245 stable with my NF7-S due to the vdd issue .

I used the same drivers etc.. for the tests .
Its good to be able hit these speeds with the Abit board as I have not previously been able to do so .

It seems from these results that people stating the DFI board was weak in 3D just does not hold true ;)

Anyone else want to throw in some 3Dmark2K scores for a compare ?

EDIT : I think my 9800XT was clocked higher in the DFI results TBH . I cant remember what though . I have had a few beers tonight so cut me some slack ;)

I will continue to use my Abit board I think . I love to mod boards like this and then see clear results for your efforts ;)

No more cold boot issues for me :)

Also this is the best result I have had with my mobile chip in terms of the highest CPU clock .

The more i think abt the more im inclined to think that these XP chips could really be awesome. Not that their bad right now, but if we could hit 280mhz, just like some P4 systems im sure that these chips would give the P4's a good bit of competition!

Its true that there is a certain element of fun from the modding process . I missed the modding side of things with the DFI board and got annoyed when the Vcore mod would freeze my board under load :(

It is much more satisfying modding a board and reaping the rewards of your time and efforts . The DFI is a great board , but what with the Vcore mod not working , the low sata write speeds and the worst of all ...... cold boot issues ......

I thought it seemed like a good time to test out my NF7-S with a few of the mods that were popping up . My board had potential before , I could tell . The prime failures I was seeing seemed to be related to the boards NB and ram . The mods I did simply ironed out those instabilities .

I did the Vdimm mod first , but it gained me NOTHING in fsb results . Which was a bit of a shock to say the least . When I added the vdd booster and then raised the VBT/VTT by linking it to VDD eveything seemed to come together , which was nice ;)

My board does not like high vdd over 240 fsb for some reason thats why I am hoping to link Vbt/Vtt to AGP voltage :D

I just ran Super Pi 1MB test and got 36 seconds :D

The best I could ever get out of my DFI with a 24/7 stable rig was 37 seconds :p:

Nice scores :)

My modest stock cooled OC on my 9800XT is slowing me down for sure . I just have not had the balls to mod it yet ( if ever ). I can replace a motherboard if I screw up a mod , but a 9800XT is a tad expensive :D

Also I modded my 9700pro before and was underwhelmed with the results I had .

Are mods for the 9800XT easy ? How are they in comparison to the 9700pro mods ?

At what speed? The lowest CPU frequency I've got 36s at is 235x11,5. :)

I wonder why my board is fine ? Not a single hiccup .

I will check that mofset when I get back from work . I have checked the temp of the ram and noticed no increase in temps there at all . Just a bit warm like normal .

I will test out a few different voltage settings too , just to see what results I get as I have not really tested any other settings yet .

I was just pleased to hit 240x11.5 stable :banana:

they do Vdimm = V i/o mod

while u have another diff mod Vdimm mod from motherboardfaqs.com

i think there is something happening after the Vdimm=V i/o mod combine with Vtt=Vdd mod

still trying to figure it out... :/

Mickey Padge ... i just check back my voltage reading after vdd=Vbt mod

if u have Vdd @ 1.7V
The voltage will flow to the dimm slot @ 1.7V also(no decrease voltage)

so if u have Vdimm @ 3.3V.... hope u can reduce the Vdd voltage to 1.65V only.....

It is interesting that everyone else did the direct hook up mod for the vdimm . I was never tempted to do it that way . It always looked a bit risky to me .

I have my 9800 Pro running at a similar speed (460/390) 22K link in the sig. Im only running at 233 x 11 too on a desktop barton, yep no mobile needed for 22K here :D

If you used cat 3.7 you would gain some serious marks those new cats are seriously crippling your overclock :stick:

I tried the Vref = Vbt mod and it did work , but the mofset mentioned earlier in this thread gets really hot with it this way . So I put it back to Vdd=Vbt and all is cool again :D

I think I will keep this setup until I move over to 939 in the future .

Has anyone else had any luck modding the NF7-S ? I dont really hear of many people running high fsb/CPU/Vcore all at once on this board .

BTW, what multiplier-BIOS-drivers is that 266 sandra...? seems pretty low for such FSB and timings - i'm getting 3674/3397 at 242FSBx11 with single stick of 512MB PC-3500 Lvl II. i got a screenie of that somewhere...

With the new Tictac D23 3D-Fire gives my higher score cos D22Alpha1 is'nt optimized with multi 8:D

my NF7-S is running 240fsb sandra stable with the L12 mod and no other mods, im gonna vDimm and vDD mod it soon when i get another mobo for backup,

thats with the ram @ 2.95v btw
