probably new stepping they've been out of stock for 2-3 weeks
This is the reason,I am not jump yet in X79.
I will wait until mobo chipset and CPU get new stepping.
these will all do 7ghz so i hear
@ Splave
Can anyone give me factual info as to what this new stepping will increase? Will it perform better? What's the difference? If it's just that Vt-d thing I could care less...
From what I heard the new stepping can play Starcraft 2 on grandmaster level. And yeah 7GHz of course.
it's 7G on air cooling what i heard from splave.
I didnt sign nda so im in the clear to talk about it
I'm a bit out of the loop on SB-E stuff. Did they ever sort the PCIe 3.0 transceiver problems?
what PCi-E 3.0 transceiver problems? i heard their only problem is that they didn't have time to get it PCISIG certified?
I heard 200blck but it is just a rumor:p:. I think maybe they will seem as if they OC higher, beucase most people havemn't bought CPus either b/c they are sold out or just too expensive. Most results on are ES and if retails haven't thought us anything is that they are clocking better than most ES CPUs, just not many people have them. I mean look at the WR is sitting on top of basically as ES submissions and some retails that are very high up like Loud's. BTW Newegg is not getting more until C2, it isn't just that they are out of stock for a little while, Intel ran out of CPUs which was part of the plan. I remember massman put a post up saying showing some high 167blck on a CPU, which everyone thought was C2, idk if it was C2, but it used the MSi bangbang and it has a modified clock gen to allow higher BLCk. it really idk what you really want 1.67 multiplier at that high for, other than maybe it could be a sweet spot, but BLCk dividers are good for memory speed, and i would think 1.25 and 24x and 107blck would be enough for most, but using 1.67 is nice too. if All C2 CPUs have better BLCk that would be nice, but i don't think they will. i think maybe their silicon quality might be higher, maybe intel has worked on the leakage to lower some temps. Intel needs to start working on leakage tho, for real as if they don't on the next CPU they release it will be crazy lol.
they will run at high watts man, no way to get around that, maybe C2 has some better thermals, but otherwise you need a very nice watercooler to get 5ghz load stable, IMo at least you need something that can handle a 250W load.
I think Andressergio is more concerned about getting 5ghz on reasonable voltage (at or near max intel spec) for 24/7 more so than temps, he has good cooling.
Im running this chip at 4.7ghz, the difference between 4.7 and 5ghz for normal use is not going to be noticeable at all. For most of what I do default is plenty, just boring.
my watercooler can handle it perfect as i wont bench or put linx or prime on it, as i say i will just game and adjust till i get stable, same i did with my nice 2600k, i have the chance to test some chips and i probed that this lit beasts can go high and high but once you start pumping volts they degrade and to do 5GHz again will requiere lots of volts, so i decided to test that way
thanks OC Nub thats exactly what i want, i saw your chip can do it easy thats what i just want, play heavy games so any problem of stability will show up easy
need some 3930K with less than 1.4000 @ 5.0GHz
Maybe with the new stepping, we will end up with some soon-to-be-obsolete Xeon E5s by the summer...
I say soon-to-be-obsolete because the E5 will be behind the curve once mainstream Ivy comes out...

weird still no stock
well it'll prob take a few days.
I'm kind of interested in C2, but I don't think I can give up this current C1. I tried 3 chips and kept this one that does 5Ghz all day at 1.42v. It'll hit 5.1ghz at 1.44v...but I've had a few crashes at those settings and it takes almost 1.5v to iron it out....far too much for 24/7. So I've settled on 5.0Ghz 24/7.
.
Unless there is better clocking I'm gonna sit tight on this current C1 methinks.
Well if any of You guys want to try new stepping and sell Ur old pm me i just need a chip 5ghz stable games on 6c 12t on decent volts
I'm primed and ready to get into a Sandy-E setup but I'm on hold for the CPU purchase. I intend to use (and already have) an Asus X79 Sabertooth for the build. So the real choice is between the 3930K and the 3960X.
My 24/7 goal is acutally pretty low - 4.0 - 4.5 HT enabled. If i can keep SpeedStep and full sleep capabilitiy, that's a plus too.
So in all reality, with gaming being the 'hardest' thing this rig will do, the 3930K is the way to go. But who's going to get it in stock and when is it going to be there?
It seems there just aren't a lot of places to buy a CPU anymore. I don't have a Microcenter close by anymore (6 hour drive to the one in Atlanta) and all the old sites I used don't seem to be there anymore. (Anyone remember Anandtech--I think that was their name)
Gaming load is alot lower than Prime95 loading too.
My Gaming temps is 40-43c where 100% prime95 is 58-60c on my i7-920 OCed with 1.375v
Might want to quailify game loaded stable vs 100% loaded stable
Anyone in the know on when there will be retail availability of the new stepping? :wasntme:
I have 2 3930k's, first one is stable at 4.8ghz 1.386v load, but has a not so great imc. Could not do 2400mhz mem, 5100ish highest bootable on water. I have a feeling because of the poor imc it would not do better on cold, but would be a good 24/7 chip for someone that didnt care about 2400mhz memory.
You need to find a chip that has a good imc, I know you would not be satisfied with 2133.
Happy Bday! caughcaugholdfartcaughcaugh
lmao !!! thanks 41 dang im going down, we aint like chips that every count forward is better, we go the other way lol
i can decode the caugh lol that AC behind the rad its producing it lol, hey show that avatar bigger seems a nice torture table you have there ;)
thanks for the reply mate you know me i wont be satisfied with 2133 but who knows maybe i get lucky
cheers !
Sergio
Right now the home made bench table is a mess. Ill try and post a larger pic.
After 40 starts to suck, I know from experience. We need toys for our bday's now more than ever, to help us forget we are getting old.
Added a new loop for the 7970 the , so everything is a mess ATM. If I want to change cards out, this way I can without a lot of headache. The pump and res are zip tied to the table.

lol well i always needed toyz maybe i was always old lol
that looks impressive wood parts, you still use those metal clamps with screws ? i switched to the black ones no screw are pretty easy to put and faster but sometimes can be hard to press, can ruin your fingers, but either way i prefeer them
this ones

thanks for the pics
Sergio
jeeze this babies are delayed huh...they said 20jan still notha on the egg
The window unit ac has slowly blistered them paint on the window, so today I took the wooden ghetto bench table apart and got rid of it. I scraped the paint from the window cill and rebuilt the loop again, this time mounted a shelf in front of the ac.
The wife has been pretty awesome to let me do what I want with this room.

lol nice. Why is your res so long?
It was from the first wcooled system I built. I thought bigger must be better when I ordered, when I first saw it I knew i made a mistake. If you look top right in the first pic, you'll see a much shorter res from the next build lol.
This is working good so far, GPU temp is 12-18c with direct ac on the rads.
wow look like a lab there nub :D what are u making there
jeeze that res almost can feed the plant :)
look getto but nice to have a place to do that i kinda bored of buiding stuff inside cases
im doing like this now
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2104/p1100485z.jpg
http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/3804/p1100509.jpg
but of course couldnt leave all there for this reason lol ! he is the boss now
http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6498/p11004911.jpg
so it all ended inside again
http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/640/p1100587.jpg
and o yeah i have to do a tight cable management and sleeving to prevent the baby to pull stuff
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/7986/p1100819.jpg

It sure looks better in a nice case with good cable management, nice clean build as always!. With kids you have to keep it safe.
It has been nice to not have to work inside a case though, despite how bad it looks. Built the 2 seperate loops to make it easy to switch gfx cards or mobos without having to take them apart.
thanks man but honestly i prefeer to have it on the table but Valentino is super curious and very intelligent so sometimes i go and he grabed a mem, SSD or so lol, and its hard to replace that stuff you know...
RIVE build will go outside on the table for some time cooled buy that antec khuler 920 you see
separate loops awesome, did you try those new pumps the Swiftech MCP...they produce a nicer head pressure than ours...i was stearing at them but i bought the Apogee HD some time ago
Is he not tempted to stick his finger in that fan cooling the cards? I know I would be :P
Nubs PC: *squinting* "Hey man, you want me to do 5.5GHz? I dunno man, I'm pretty hungry, how bout you pass me some of them doritos then we'll see about that OC"
So, is C2 the newer stepping from Intel? What is the number to look for when you are actually looking at the CPU box?
The pump is 3/8 id got it for the gpu, but I might try it for the cpu instead.
ahh the one i told is this i have only one pump the one runing on my hafx and i love this one

I got my 3930K today, ordered on Wednesday. Its a SR0H9 #3134B364T so not a C2 I guess :(
SR0H9 is a C1. C2's s-spec should be SR0KY for the 3930K.
For 3960X: C1 = SR0GW; C2 = SR0KF
Found this pdf today when I was searching for my x79-ud7 boot problem :)
I think he means that C1 or C2 don't really matter. They are both great cpu's.
Finding a 3930K is a great achievement! (C1 or C2) I ordered 1 on 29 December and never got 1. Contacted the shop and they told me they will get them early march....
Canceled my order and went to another shop that had a 3960X in stock :)
@ Andressergio, installed the pump last night. I cant really see any difference at all in temps, and have no way to check the flow rates. If your pump is working fine no need to replace it with this. Only thing I see it being better for is taking up less space if you are working inside a case.
Theres lots of 3930K stock in Norway, but its a small country so not a lot of people buy that kind of hardware. I'm happy though :D
If I were into conpsiracy theories, I'd say the lag in 3930K restocking is a ploy to push more 3960X sales
Got one, finally... :)

Congrats! Looks like you got a nice chip.
@donmarconi
Congrats! Nice charts, but where are some highres pics of the box and CPU?
Where did You get Your 3930KC2? And what did You pay?
3930K, Core i7-3960X, C2 new stepping selling in Japan

C1 or C2 really matter regarding overclokcing?
C2 avaiable here in NL today
Thanks! :) C2 it is.
Pretty stable, but it's too early to say. Thanks! :)
Thanks mate! :) I'm very happy with it. Finally I got above the average CPU.
Just a few pictures...

No box for CPU, it came wrapped in a paper. :D Source and price will need to stay undisclosed. ;)
Hehehe... Thanks! :) I like round numbers. It is very good IMHO, 5GHz at low volts, can do 5.2GHz on water.
Compared to few POS C1 samples around here, it does matter, but it's just IMO.
so why not in the US still ?
GOD, this new stepping is the last thing Im waiting for :S Hope they make it fast to the stores, RIVE is waiting :S
3930K: L149B708 (C2). Very simular to my rather avarage C1 chip. Cooled by SS.

I think nothing different between C1 and C2 stepping seem like still same on ocing result :(. any tested with BCLK and Gen 3 on C2 ? I want to see how many different with C1
