Swiftech's new products for 2012
-
love the fans, very aggressively curved blades like the gentle typhoons, cant wait to see perf numbers.
and the hex/knrul on the rotary fittings,
bought my first rotarys recently and had leaking problems cause i could not tighten them enough, and the only tool i could use was vice grips, which scratched them all up and a pain to use.
-
<333333333333333 we get the direct drives again!!!
:O
stephen MSRP on the direct drives?
-
Sweet, never thought we'd see the return of the Apogee drive. Pump/block combos can be pretty useful in a space-constrained build and it was the only standalone unit on the market. The new one looks very nice with the G1/4 ports and backlit logo.
-
Excellent lineup.
Tim with better performance then PK-1!
Hardware testers have a lot of work ahead of them very soon
-PB
-
I got a short preview already, but its good to finally see all the products. Especially the Apogee Drive 2 and the VRM/Chipset blocks. :)
-
What kind of block the Apogee Drive II features?
-
Oh nice fittings. Too bad I just purchased a whole slew of Bitspower fittings 2 days ago *sigh*.
-
Wow...you guys have been busy!! Nice!!
Too bad I can't make it to CES.
-
Liking all of it, even though I don't have much use for the chipset blocks.
-
Just wondering, the Pdf says for the Apogee Drive II:
Quote:
3. Unparalleled Reliability (redundant pumps).
Did Swiftech somehow manage to cram 2 pumps in there? looks a bit small for that, or maybe my English is failing me...

what he means (at least im assuming so) is that you have the option to add another pump on top of the one already installed in the apogee II in order to have redundancy. so no, there are not 2 pumps in the apogee II :)
hey gabe, i was looking at the fan and it says it has a z bearing? what type of bearing is a z bearing?
also thank you for releasing so many new toys!!! i am going to have to rethink my build now. (the apogee II is calling me)
-
Damn!!! This is awesome Gabe!!! It's going to be hard to decide between the Apogee Drive II or the dual MCP35X pump setup. The fittings look sweet too. I would like to see more of the bay res. Now if we can get pricing and a more precise date. Awesome job guys, definitely a home run here.
-
I'm really glad to finally see some fan competition for the GT fans too, I was wondering how long that would take..:)
-
Thanks for the comments, guys.
No precise ETA or pricing as of yet. Most of these new products have been prototyped and approved.
A few answers to your questions:
* Apogee Drive II has a completely flow design, the internals have completely redesigned. I am sure most of you will be surprised :) Also this time, everything is CNC machined. Inlet and outlet ports are adjustable to fit everyone's needs. Obviously we made that one compatible with compression fittings. MSRP will be placed aggressively especially when you consider the price of an MCP35X and of an high end CPU block. Performance wise, it does better than Apogee HD and everything that I've ever tested up to date. Compatible with Swiftech MP's technology.
* Maelstrom is a dual 5"1/4 bay reservoir. It can work alone, with a MCP35X or a MCP35X2! You don't have to pay for the pump top if you already have it! It has a built-in LCD thermometer that reports the coolant temperature (temperature probe inside the reservoir). The reservoir itself has been designed to maximize the air trap efficiency. And ironically it's also been designed so that you'll never ever see a maelstrom with this reservoir!
* Helix was designed for max efficiency on liquid cooling radiators! 9-blade design and a max speed of 1850 RPM at 12V. Z-bearing is an improved type of sleeve bearing that creates much less friction. Testing wise at equivalent speeds, Helix does slightly better than GT's. at 5 and 7V the difference is pretty noticeable thanks to the Z-bearing (double ball bearing fans suffer at low RPM). This first product of an upcoming line has no PWM.
* Fittings: a complete line of compression fittings including standard, rotaries, angles, adapters... Those are not relabeled fittings, the whole line has been designed from scratch considering each and every aspect of the use of fittings in a liquid cooling system. If you've used compression fittings you most likely know their pros and cons. With these fittings, there will be only pros left :P HEX based for a positive lock on all of them. No more compression fittings that unscrew when you are trying to remove the compression nut! The compression nuts also have a small flat area to use an open-end wrench. No more damaging the nice knurling of the compression nuts.
* MCP35X2:this product will be out next week (already in stock), we were basically waiting for CES to release them. They come with a PWM splitter that allows you to hook up the 2 pumps on a single CPU 4-pin header. This splitter lets you keep both RPM signals. You can also stack them to divide your one PWM signal into many (I tested this on my workstation - the one with the Maelstrom prototype and it works great with 2 pumps and 3 fans... It's a lot of wire but it's just great to control both pumps and fans at the same time without having to do anything. Yeah I'm that lazy - or not (c.f. the number of new products in this page ^_^ ). Performance wise, it works just like 2 MCP35X in series :D
I probably missed a bunch of things, don't hesitate to ask more questions!
-
What a great set of products. Looking forward to picking up a number of them. Thank you for bringing back the Apogee drive!
-
Since the MCP35X will be released next week, can we get a price? Are we talking in the $200 -$250 range? How long before the Apogee Drive II? EOTM or April? Also, can we get some more pics of the Apogee Drive II and the Res?
-
MCP35X2 will be available as a TOP only (<$50) for those who already have the DDC's and also as a package with 2 pumps (<$200). Sorry I can't give you any precise number at this time.
I hope we can start shipping Apogee Drive 2 end at the begging of March.
-
Figured it would be more than $200, but you can always dream. I think the Apogee Drive II will be a hot seller, especially amongst the SFF group. Now if you could figure out a way to install a res on it, well, again, you can dream. :D
-
I think we might end up just below the $200 mark.

if the res was also around the pump heatsink, it would cool the pumps (no, i don't know how hard that would be to pull off). sure, another few watts of heat dump, but what a great epeen selling point ("I even watercooled my PUMP")
-
That would be awesome. I got my HD last week, already have my GTX580's cooled by Swiftech (MCW82's and sinks). Would love the new pump setup. I want the Apogee Drive II for my tech station, it would make it even easier for swapping gear out. Anyway, really loving the new products. Any chance of universal mosfet blocks or ones for Z68 boards?
-
WOW great product lineup O_o
I want to ask about the MCP35X2 top, I can see that the white version has that black "metal" (I'm guessing is metal) piece on top of it, would it be possible to remove it safely? (i can see that it has screws all around) I'm asking because I might end up painting that piece to match the rest :D
Thanks and keep up the good work!
-
Can inlet/outlet ports of MCP35X2 can be changed by simply rotating/switching the pumps making the whole thing more versatile for each build it is will be used in?
-
stephenswiftech: now we are back to swiftech's RMA policy. If i have two MCP35X and mount your dual top bought separately, will i loose support/RMA options as per old policy, or there are some changes/extentions to it? Also can you tell what are mounting dimensions/screw holes and alike. I wonder if it can be mounted like EK's dual top in 5.25 bays, and if someone, eg. UN-Design, decide to release some mounting bracket for one dual block, will it fit for another?
And second question that arose to me is fan related one. - Do you plan to make 140mm variety of fans? Seeing you planning to release 140mm QPs, such model might be good accompanying product, especially knowing that there are no GTs of that size it might gain even bigger share of larger fan market.
P.S.
Also wiring that comes along dual top. Can you show it's schematics? I know that with fan splitters rpm wire should come only from one for readings to be fine. I have suggestion as to wire rpm wire from one pump in 4-pin pwm connector, but from second pump tach wire only make into separate 3-pin or 4-pin connector. This way both pumps can be regulated simultaneously, but we keep option of monitoring both pumps.
And what do you think of changing connector color to black one?
-
Nice to see some QP140mm series on the horizon. Will you be making 140mm rads with reservoirs too?
-
Really nice lineup! I'm thrilled. Especially with the competition for GTs.
Any chance we see 3/4x140mm rads this year? And also interested on 140mm fans...
-
Nice new line up. I can forsee a white swiftech sponsored build...

Swiftech has always supported its customers. One of the main reasons we have a policy for RMA is because we can't be held responsible for poorly designed pump top. And I am sorry to say that but no longer than a few weeks ago, I had 2 customers calling/emailing me about an after market tops which had not been machined properly. the pump cavity was too shallow and the impeller wouldn't spin. Our policy has been applied in the most decent manner and I can't recall voiding the warranty of anyone with a Swiftech pump because he upgraded to a 35X top.
PWM: As I said in one of the post above, you get RPM signal from both pumps with this splitter - not just one. Black connectors have been requested for next production.
-
This may sound dumb but I want to ask anyway...will the MCP35X pump top work with standard MCP350 or MCP355 pumps as well? I don't want to buy two MCP35x pumps if I don't have to and my 355 pumps are working great at the moment.
Thanks
-
Yes all DDC's work with MCP35X and MCP35X2 tops.
-
The cpu block with built in pump could be a nice feature for adding a little more power to your loop on limited space :)
-
stephenswiftech: IIRC from stated in previous threads swiftech warranty was voided if user disassembles pump, be it reason of cleaning it or top replacement, with no mention that swiftech aftermarket tops are OK-ed exception for it, as in even if it's MCP350 or MCP355 disassembled to put MCP35X-H on it. If you don't recall warranty voided unofficially when users upgrade to swiftech tops de facto, imho you guys should state that officially de jure, to at least partially assure customers, who otherwise advise eg. koolance for it's more relaxed RMA policy.
P.S.
So nothing about possibility of 140mm swiftech fans? :)
-
Thanks for the reply, I guess I will leave the delrin as it is then hehe
Any cooling solution for the new dual top?
I'd like to get the dual top + pumps and some cooling for them aswell... I don't want to do some modding to cool those!
-
For the reasons I mentioned above we have to have this policy but practically there are cases where we have accommodated our customers. We have been thinking of different ways to tweak this policy. We've discussed making an exception for customers who bought an MCP35X in the past and who are upgrading to MCP35X2 for example.
We still encourage our customers to contact us even if they voided their warranty.

Hey Stephen and Gabe - Good stuff gents. Try to get out all these nice goodies though before the Mayan Long Count calendar ends :) My lab is hoping to take advantage of new Swiftech schwag before the solar flares erupt.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
-
Stephen & Gabe. . .I (and my meager bank account) hate you!, way too much good stuff coming out.
Stephen, good thing you mentioned those fittings are 100% Swiftech, because my first thought when I saw them told me otherwise.
When data is released on the Apogee Drive II, could it include flow rate and temp comparisons to either version of a D-Tek Fuzion? These are the most current blocks I run due to their relative low restriction and decent performance.
...and it looks like I only have a couple more months (at most) of beating you guys over the head to release those 140mm rads. :cheer: Probably shouldn't have made that page viewable to the public when you did. ;)

i was lookin at getting a koolance dual 140, butt if swif releases pump/rad/res combo 140mm i would so get that instead.
for gpu loop would make so much moar simple

not really? doesnt nzxt have fan with that design, gt's have the "best" title and its gona be really hard to steal that away from em.
-
@ Stephenswiftech: Luv the look of the new goodies, can hardly wait.
a Question though, or more of a suggestion: I really like the old ApogeeDrive, 2 major design-flaws though were fixed barbs and limited options available on the base-plate.
With the new ApogeeDrive II, I notice you have compression-fittings - would we be able to replace them with something else, i.e they screw into std G1/4 threads, or, fixed?
Secondly, it would be a great idea to have the baseplate as a replaceable plate, so this can be changed 1-2 years down the line to accommodate new socket-types. Would make a great product exceptional, I for one would get 3 or 4 of you guys, as you simply cannot beat the simple efficiency and compactness of this design :)
-
Both the Apogee Drive I and II have base plates that can be replaced. We just never made an upgraded base plate for Apogee Drive I. Nothing is preventing us from doing that in the future for Apogee Drive II.
Apogee Drive II comes in standard with G1/4" thread on both inlet and outlet. For the purpose of this rig, we used Compression Fittings as we also wanted to show case our new fitting line. It also shows that the product is compatible with compression fittings which is anything but obvious with a large block installed on motherboards with restrictive keep-outs.
-
Quote:

Yep, what I meant, as it originally came with s775 and AMD plates/chambers.
Would be nice instead of an integrated base-plate/chamber, to simplify it and have simple mounting-plate, like on waterblocks. Unscrew it, mount new plate, and you're done. That way, new socket-support would be a lot simpler. Is this the way it's done? If yes, I can make plates for my S771 Xeons in the Blackbird.
Luv the G1/4 fittings, now I can use my 7/16" tubing with it, great! Will certainly get 2 for my Blackbird setup, and one for Macho-mini, and one for the Wife's rig.
-
Yeah it's pretty much what I've designed here. The bracket you see on the picture is a standard 775/1155/1366/2011. You never have to remove it, if you run an AMD CPU, you just install the AMD bracket on "top of it". No water block dis-assembly required here. :)
-
That's great, Stephen, thanx - I will make S771 plates then, and this will further simplify the loop in my dual-Xeon BB setup, and free up the 5.25" slot where the current Koolance RP401X2 with dual 3.25's are located - I need this space to mount my internal SCSI Tape-drive....
This new drive would be the ideal choice :flowers:
Great work btw, and appreciate your comments.
-
For those of us with AMD processors, can we get a shot of the ApogeeDrive II with the AMD plate installed? Just curious what it looks like and how it works.
What's the ETA on pricing or is it all based on release dates?
-
I saw a lot of ST new products last night as Gabe was at the poker tournament with a beautiful custom PC
Very nicely done and unfortunately he stayed close to it all night otherwise......:hrhr:

Any chance to get some pictures of all the products? I mean, decent pictures because the one you link in the first post is as useful as none ;)

Cmon Stephen, quit teasing. We know you have the products right next to you, just break out the camera and take some individual pics of them not installed, front and back, top and bottom, etc. :D

Really loving the fans, can't wait to get ahold of them! just hope that they'll be available for the EU within a reasonable time after release.

Ahah technically, I only have a few fans and the Maelstrom bay res (which is installed in my workstation), everything else has not come back from CES yet :D oh and the production of MCP35X2 which is waiting on the official release next week :winkwink:
-
Do pumps mount directly onto the maelstrom bayres?
-
-
Depends what you call "pumps" :D (motor only or motor + top)
Practically you don't just install the motor but the whole pump + top assembly. MCP35X (or MCP35X2) installs directly at the bottom of the Maelstrom.
It has the advantage of being compatible with one or two pumps without having to "plug" the unused pump.
It also has the advantage of being more cost effective than competitive pump/bay res combo (provided you already own a MCP35X or MCP35X2 and want to upgrade to a bay res - then you won't be paying for a bunch of stuff you already own).
It can work "alone" without pump - for example if you're running an Apogee Drive II and don't need a second pump.
Lastly it is virtually compatible with tops from the competition :)

Well I have 2 DDC's at the moment and that's why I was wondering if we mounted the pump without top to the bayres.
But if we don't, I don't see how my stock topped DDCs will mount.
-
Well it will be sold with different packages:
* Alone (no top no pump - for those who own a MCP35X or MCP35X2 or virtually any DDC with aftermarket top and compatibility is not guarantied for now)
* Reservoir + MCP35X2 top (no pump - for those who like you have a pair of DDC's with Laing top)
* Reservoir + MCP35X2 pumps (with 2 MCP35X's - for those who want the complete package)
we are likely to also offer reservoir + MCP35X top (no pump) and reservoir + MCP35X (1 pump)...
-
Are 35X tops compatible with the older DDC's? Getting the res and using it with my 18W DDC would make my loop simpler if I didn't need tubing from res to pump...
If I understand correctly, the res doesn't have the top built-in like other manufacturers'?
Can the LED be removed from the ApogeeDrive 2? If not, no big deal... LEDs just aren't my thing and none of the cases I'm looking to buy have windows so...
-
Hey stephen another question, what bundles will be available for the dual ddc top? I dont own any pump so was expecting a bundle including 2 DDC and the dual top....
-

All current model DDC tops are compatible with all DDC pumps. The only forward incompatibily is some reservoir tops require cutting the feet off the sides. Also some older DDC 1 or DDC 2 tops had an inlet port that hung down below the ceiling that is incompatible with the newer DDC 3 series pumps.
The only real physical change over the years is the impeller inlet hole got smaller with DDC3. Everything else regarding top compatibility remains much the same.

Check a few posts up.

What are the dimensions for an Apogee Drive II block? I guess the pump makes it a pretty tall block?
-
Not enough loving for the thermal paste haha, is it going to be diamond and / or silver based? Any more technical details you can spare on this?
-
Really digging the Apogee Drive II:up:
-
Too bad the compression fittings are not offered in 7/16 id. I would be all over those.

Well, seeing the ApogeeDriveII comes with G1/4" fittings, no reason why you cannot fit at least 1/2" barbs, which will take 7/16" tubing. I use 7/16" tubing, and this will work really well on my setup. Cannot wait to get my hands on at least 2 of these for now :)
-
I'm looking forward to the fans coming out to, especially given that the Gentle Typhoons constantly stay out of stock. Very good idea. I'll also like to see Bitspower get some real competition.
-
I'm interested in the TIM as well. I've got a new experimental I'd like to put it against here in the lab. I've a feeling this new one would be a real showstopper if it weren't for price (bulk pyrolytic graphite, nuff said.) I'd love to see what you guys have come up with.
It's always good to see people trying to make an existing product better. And, as above BitsPower needed some competition.
-
Apogee Drive II looks good, Maelstrom looks good.
Radiators - at least for me, potentially epic failure. Two reasons. Firstly, whilst it is nice to have 140mm radiators, many of the newer cases have 180 or even 200 mm fans - currently there are exactly 2 radiators that can cope with 180mm or 200mm fans. Consider that a 200mm radiator has 40,000mm2 surface area whereas a 2x140mm radiator has 39,200 mm2. Secondly (and to be fair this is not clear on the pictures) there appears to be only 2 G1/4 sockets (maybe 3 if you produce a QP-res version) personally I think this is poor design and there should be 4 sockets (both sides for thin radiators or top and side if space) and for thick radiators 6 (both sides and top) to allow for flexible mounting options and in some cases an optional reservoir attachment
-
I am looking forward to the 140s especially if they compliment it with Helix 140s. Good 140mm fans is the hurdle keeping many people on the 120mm form factor. I can also see the desire for multiple port options, but I would rather that be a specialty second product than a standard if it raises costs. Most people only need that normal one set of ports and simple and low cost is good too..:)
-
Sub'd in for future interest.
-
It's after CES, any word on when?
-
Any words about mcp655 tops?It would be nice to see with swiftech brand
-
man, I am so pissed I didn't find the swiftech booth at CES... I would have loved to discuss the products with you guys :(
-
Stephen could you please confirm the size of the Dual MCP-35X dual top? (with the pumps installed)
I'm trying to find a proper place to install that baby... thanks :)
-
Any cost estimates? Mainly looking at the radiators (2x140 particularly) and the fans, reservoir with a single pump top too...
-
Hope you guys are finally going to sleeve your cables???
-
new stuff looks promising. glad to see swiftech producing some newer products.
-
I'm liking the new Swiftech Edge HD kit I have installed, still a little quizzical to see if a single 220 radiator and a pair of 1850rpm GT's can handle the heat from an overclocked 2500k and single 7970. Stephen and Gabe have both promised me that the H20-220 will be enough, lol.... I will be testing this weekend and will report back <grin>

Apogee Drive II will have sleeved cables.
No pricing on on these items yet, sorry.
I will see if I can post a drawing for the MCP35X2 dimensions before the incoming release :D

most of the time stock sleeving sucks becuase people dont want that extra 10$ per wire price tag for doing it well.. plus some to majority of people sleeve in colors other than black.

Is the 655 more or less out of the picture since you're integrating the apogee drive and 35x more now? I've been slowly looking for options for a bay res for my 655 but its not looking like much is available other than the dangerden and a few others. I'd love to combine my 655 with the res and save some space and tubing clutter but its looking like your new bay res is only for the DCC types of pumps? Will there be a 655 version?
-
No bay res has been planned for the 655 yet. The MCP35X really is king right now.
-
-
everything in this post (other than the dual pump) is scheduled for Q1.
-
I'd like a diagram for the Apogee Drive II, if possible

Gotcha, but I thought you stated that the dual pump would be available this week?

Any word on the color of the temp display on the maelstrom? I am planning a build when Kepler and IB-E are launched.

We have several options and we haven't really decided yet. What color would you want?

White if possible, it would also allow anyone to mod it with some colored film to produce their own custom color. Also in the .pdf provided it appeared to be back lit, is that from case lighting or are there LEDs built into the housing?

the reservoir (fluid) itself is UV back lit (2 LEDs).
the LCD display as its own back lighting too (color to be determined).
