i really want one
Nah, not something I'd want...
<--- Look at avatar....
I wish santa grants my wish for the cpus lol
Maybe Santa accepts kidneys as currency..
Sweet board.
wow that real monster
yea its pretty freaking cool, i saw all those small DIP switches, how my mouth watered. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...drooling-1.gif
Are there extreme CPUs planned now for this board ? Otherwise it's not suitable for benchers...
The Xeon ES 8 Core CPU's are all locked multi do not support CPU straps and only do about 105 BLK = USELESS for overclocking!!! LOL!!!
Sad indeed, we will need to import. Fortunately, nowadays, I prefer the stability/reliability of SuperMicro's boards over any of the mostly buggy Tier1 Manufacturer's boards. Yes, I cannot really overclock, unless using software, but that's ok. The other benefits make up for it.Quote:
With EVGA pulling out of Australia, its going to be difficult to source SR-X's here in upside down land.
With that said though, we all have different applications we need our systems for, for my process-simulator, stability and reliability/up-time is a must.
Enjoy, I would still like to see what the new SR-X is capable of :)
Are you sure or this because logic tells me that if this is true then EVGA wouldn't invest the money into this board in the first place.
My gut feeling is that they must support cpu straps and that the biggest issue we will face is cooling these 8 core volcanoes.:D
I have the latest ES mate. The CPU straps are not enabled as if you set a strap it wont boot due to clocking the PCI express etc at the same time. This is on the ASUS R4E. Other testers have confirmed this. They must be enabled on the CPU otherwise the strap is just like clocking BLK i.e it effects all other buses within the system. The multipliers are locked but they do support Turbo like any other SB. I understand what you guys are saying but I have not heard of anyone clocking these via CPU strap or getting BLK's much higher than 105 - 107.
Cooling them is easy on chilled water :)!!!
I can't imagine EVGA developing the SR-X without confirming CPU releases beforehand, perhaps future Xeon releases will be different? Otherwise, like someone already mentioned, buying a reliable workstation/server board is a much better choice in the majority of cases.
Time will tell, I guess..
The latest rumor that I was reading is that Intel will be multiplier unlocking at least some E5 Xeons...seems a reasonably likely rumor, as there will be no other way to overclock using this board if the straps are locked.
The one thing I can't figure out with this board is the fact that one socket has 8 DIMM slots and the second has only 4...seems really strange to me.
I hope they do release some multi unlocked Xeons. As this current crop are pointless for discussion in this forum!!!
I think it's both space limitations and hedging your bets.
Lets be honest, for the vast majority that would buy this board just 4 dimms per socket is plenty. 8x2gig or 8x4gig will take care of most peoples needs BUT you have those that will want more and thats why the 8 dimms on the first cpu.
Agreed but we've been limiting the discussion to cpu overclocking and since we'd all agree that EVGA and Vince aren't stupid I'm guessing there's things we just don't
know yet..I've reached the mindset of sit back and wait and see.;)
I do agree Movieman but its abit frustrating. With the X3960 the best strap not only for clocking CPU but also memory and overall system stability is 1.25. My Xeons dont boot at this strap at all!!! Very frustrating.
Assuming the E5-2600's are OC'able. I will be replacing my SR-2 setup.
Im sure like most on here, I have absolutely no need for this system. But I NEED IT!!!
Don't have a clue to release date but end of March is when the chips are supposed to go retail so that is probably when.
Yea, expensive..BUT then again anything in life worth buying is expensive.
One can drive from point A to point B in a Hundai or one can do it in a AC Cobra..
Which is the more enjoyable ride?:D
Ha! If it came to buying a Hyundai in order to buy an srx I'd do it!
