AMD Bulldozer FX 8150 at 8429 MHz

A few weeks ago I got a call inviting me down to AMD's office down in Austin,Texas for a preview of their upcoming Bulldozer line of cpu's.
Can I say it took me almost 12/100's of a nanosecond to say yes?
Beautiful location, warm friendly people that went out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Part of the day was spent watching an overclocking session with Brian McLachlan(*chew),Sami Mäkinen( Macci),Aaron Schrader
(Ghengiskhan)Pete Hardman and Simon Solotko(64Nomis)doing the camera work.
Their goal was to break the existing frequency record of 8307MHz thats been held by Intels celeron going all the way back to 2004.
In this world of records that last maybe a month if your lucky this one has stood with small changes for almost SEVEN YEARS!
Like most of you I thought no one will ever touch this as todays multi core cpu's are much more intricate than the older single core cpu's and this AMD FX 8150 is a eight core cpu not a single.
Now you guys know these people I mentioned above and they are talented and driven individuals and they accomplished their goal!

I can honestly say that I did not see a 16 core chip during my time there but I did have a tray of FX 8150's in my hands,,More on that later..:rofl:

Impressive demonstration to be sure. What would be far more impressive would actually be seeing these chips for sale in the channel....a task which is proving to be infinitely more difficult for AMD than a mere clock speed record...:rolleyes:

I don't know, looking at thoses score the Phenom II 1100T is goodly higher in cinebench .. even the 1075T is higher.

Look at the single core score in C10. With Turbo on, it is slower than 1100T with it's own Turbo. If Turbo was off for that FX,then it is roughly on par. This is with supposedly much stronger FPU(in single thread case) versus K10... Either the sample/board is broken and this means everyone out there has the same (broken) platform,even the press. Or this is the performance of the design,which in turns means it fails in one of the things AMD touted it for the most- legacy floating point(SSE) workloads.

power consumption is at the last place for me, todays CPUs has all good this property (if has +50W in load or lower, doesn matter, its "nothing" in KW/h and in real price). And I think, it will be with FX not bad :)
