Sandy Bridge Tec Water Block

Well here is my newest water block

Figured Id give xtremesystems tec forums some love.

Pros:

1. No insulation required. The controller is set to user selectable from 15-25ºc with an ambient hold. Just turn the dial to max, and it will hold ambients

2. No special power supply to deal with, just plug it into your 6 pin pcie cable

3. This thing has no problems being cooled by a cheap $150 Rasa Kit.

4. The tec intercepts the heat load and sets the duty cycle to what is needed to cool the block to hold a very precise temp and increasing efficiency.

Basically its setup is no harder than a setting up a standard waterblock.


Display shows the following AT = Ambient Temp BT=Block temp TT=Target Temp and DC= Duty cycle the tec runs at.

Excellent set up!

Looks good, and not very expensive....is there an AM3 version?

I have wondered about this too, probably act as an insulator and overheat the cpu even faster.

Ultra - does your controller throttle back on the TECs when your on light load? ie reduce power consumption when your not benching or gaming? I reckon the dual pelt will get more attention than the single as people wanting this will want to overclock it as far as they can and still have cold temps. When the TEC's cooling capacity is exceeded do temps skyrocket or just slowly creep up?

umm this isn't my block or controller Aussie

however i will answer on mindchills behave

yes the controller will throttle back at light loads

Sure more plets /TEC = more Qmax which is pretty much always better

According to mindchill he has managed to cool an overclocked i5 as it's wattage is relatively low when overclocked.


if for some reason power is lost to the TEC's the TEC will still conduct heat , though poorly. so your pc wont explode if this happens. mind you if it happens when the cpu is loaded the temps will go crazy causing a crash. if you buy a QUALITY it's unlikely this will happen . not sure if the price included the TEC or not. i assume not based on it's cost.

I just went thru the site and the price with a controller would be in the region of around 240-250 USD...which is still not bad.

Probably the same seller because in their response to me, they told me that they were working in a double TEC waterblock.

Update:

I finally got around to adding Dewpoint safety to the controller.

I also shortened the height of the block and added black cap screws

Lcd now displays as follows:

H=Humidity A=Ambient B=BlockTemp
C=Dutycycle D=Duepoint T=Targettemp

mindchill: i really like that controller. what is the power rating?

When will be the socket 1366 tec blocks ready?

I am interested in one of these... but it'd need to be acetal (I worry too much about acrylic) and wonder how well it'd do in my setup with 5x quad rads?

As soon as that dual tec block becomes available I'm gonna have to buy one, or if you need some testing done on the am3 socket hit me up ^^

I agree that acrylic is not sturdy enough. This needs to have an acetal/delrin top. I am absolutely game for this though.

Considering we used it for years without incident, someone got a bad batch and there were a rash of failures, and now generally we hear nothing of acrylic breaking, I think it's a bit off to say it's not strong enough. If you want a delrin top for aesthetics, that's all well and good, but proper 1/2" acrylic is going to last longer than the block's life easily. Notice I did add in there proper, I have seen improper fail repeatedly.

Can we get some more angle shots of that dual TEC block?

I want one for my 2600K!

I'm not a fan of acrylic looks or reliability wise. Never have been. Hence the request for acetal. :D

Any more news on this? I'm really interested but would need some coaching...

What does die size have to do with the TEC? Thats what cold plates and IHS's are for..

Any of the owners can show any screenshots with some temp results under stress testing? The product is really intresting. Thanks.

More so LARGER dies will produce better results with TEC's. As it is most dies require a decently thick cold plate to distribute heat from IHS.

Larger die = more even heat.

I have some results:

2500k@5.2Ghz, 1.378 volts.

Idle temps : 27/28/32/27
Load temps: 65/72/71/68

Alle temps with these settings:

ambient: 21
Temp target : 20

idle load tec is 40%
load temp offcourse 100%

Cooling: 3x360 rad with 2x 560ti in loop.

That rad must be suffering trying to cool a TEC and 2 gtx560ti's in a single loop.... Any idea what your coolant temp is? Would be interesting to see how hot it gets during a full load run so we can see how efficient the TEC unit is working.

Just for a quick comparison, this is with the stock MCW-6500T with a single EK 360mm rad with GT's at 7V and single MCP355 with the Petra top, note the cold plate could have been tightened a LOT better but i've stripped the stock screws well three of them to be exact. I would've gotten much better results if i used two MCP's since the stock block is extremely restrictive and i was barely getting any water movement...

5200Mhz at 1.45V full load temps hovering in low 50's. It was a quick setup.

Very Very cool, I am Tempted to over a Dual TEC Controller, and a chiller.... With the chiller i assume i would need two pumps? (One Hot side and one cool side). Is the LCD back lit? Can i swap it out a blue LCD?

Does the chiller have a mounting bracket?
