Hi,
I run my P4 at 225fsb on a regular basis at 1.65 volts on my P4C800-E DLX and when the cpu is loaded, I have a major drop of 0.10 - 0.13 volts. I know this is a problem with this Asus board but is there a mod I can do to fix this problem?
Some pictures and detailed instructions would help me alot.

Heres a link to the thread . I have just done the mod to my P4C800E deluxe mobo and it workks great. A 50k vr set to 35 k is required for the mod. The part you have to solder to is very small so you will need a good soldering iron to do it . With my mobo set to 1.575 volts and according to asus probe it reads 1.625 at idle and never goes below 1.616 volts under load. it used to go down to 1.532 volts before the mod.The mod worked well.

does anyone know if increasing resistance helps stabilize the voltage? we're at 28k Ohms, and 1.63Vcore is 1.875 in bios.. and fluctuates from 1.61V to 1.69V

macci told me much easier way to do droop on P4C800 mobo.
Solder vr between those blue dots. I almost *cked up my mobo, when I used to thick wire and condensator almost fell off :p:, so it was alot easier to solder on those dots.

processor and motherboard are at stake there

It doesnt really matter which one is "hot", like it didnt matter in orginal mod (soldering on capasitor). Youll just need to generate resistance between those spots, so it doenst matter which is ground or the "hot" one.
I already did the droop mod, but seems that something is wrong, when I put 1.525, the BIOS indicates 1.632 +/-, and I can't have a 1.75 vcore for example, because when I put 1.75, the BIOS indicates 1.9 +/-!
Anybody knows the right value to a 100k pot to obtain the better stability in the vcore?

Just increase the value of that vr. Set ex. 1.75V in bios, boot, go in bios hw monitor and ajust vr until voltage is set to right level.
There's no value that I can set to the vr. that give me a vcore of 1.75 for example! :(
Option BIOS -------- Reading BIOS
---- 1.525v -------- 1.632v
---- 1.600v -------- 1.690v
---- 1.625v -------- 1.850v
Something isn't right in this droop mod...
When I measure the vr. in the mobo, the max. that he gives me with a multi is about 45k, and I used a 100k vr., is this normal!?
It will be better to substitute the 100k vr. for one of 50k?

I used 50k ohm vr for this mod. When the vr is ajusted to ~38k ohms, it will give you allmost exactly the same voltage, that you set in bios.

yes, all the mods are the same on P4C and P4P;). Im doing that mod too(the macci one, it looks easy).

I did the droop mod yesterday on my P4C800-E DLX and i got to say that i'm very happy with it...
System :
P4 3.0 (SP-94 + PAPST)
ASUS P4C800-E DLX
Corsair 2*512 (PC4000)
Before the mod everything was stable at 3.3 (15*220) but I had random freeze/reboot at higher freq...
Now after the mod everything seems to be rock stable at 3.5 (after 4 hours of prime 95 and a few aqua/3d mark pass) moreover, as you can see on the screenshot below, i don't have anymore huge Vcore drop/jump...

I set the Vcore to 1.7 V in the bios and when monitoring it under windows, the Vcore is 1.74 idle and 1.70 on full load (+/- 0.03 V). The VR was set to 30K.
I used what i can call the "macci mod" (blue dots)
Quick one. Where do I messure the Vcore (yes yes yes, I know I can look at in the Bios)
Edit: But I gotta say I love the mod. 1.536 is the lowest I've seen it on default Vcore. And 1.552 on the highest :D

When you decrease resistance between ADP3180 legs 17 & 18 (blue dots or both ends of capasitor), ADP3180 chip think that Vcore is too low and increases it. When value of resistor is even more decreased, ADP3180 thinks that its still too low, and increases it some more :DQuote:

......It should be stated that for this modd on the P4C800's motherboards, the location of the "ADP3180"chip is found "UNDER" the left side of the CPU/HeatSink bracket. >>>this, you must remove first to locate, and access to the soldering point's; then replace bracket.......etc......etc......[ just my 2 bit's worth of helping for any who can't see it; compared to the P4P800--board's, (which the chip sit's just outside of the bracket)..........:rolleyes: .........:D ..........:p:

can i use a resister that is fixet ?
Well i broke the small cap while trying to do this mod...dont know how i did that...too much heat i think cause the damn thing to tombstone. Does anyone know the value of the cap so i could replace it.

I have done a mod for a P4P800S-X board which seems to be a bit different than other P4P boards as this is a smaller design with other chips.
On my board i got a RT9602 / RT9241B chip combination for the VID inputs (5 bit) to mosfet driver.
I found out that it works great to modify the Vadj input at pin #8 on the RT9241B which is a 20pin smd chip.
Origional it has a external 5k9 resistor to ground from pin 8 , so doing a modification with a 10k VR in parrallel results in lower resistant and it worked.
normally my vdrop was about 80mv in stressed , now after the mod my vcore is around 0,15volt higher in idle and stressed it even put the vcore 30mv up instead of drop down -)
i need to do more testings at different overclock situations but it seems to work great this way
In bios vcore setup as 1,600 v (this is the highest setting posible in my bios) but output messured in Speedfan and CPU-Z is above 1,700 anyway =)
Maybe if i use another cpu that the vcore setting in bios can put higher than 1,600 .. or is this just a fixed maximum for every cpu in this board ? ... have to find out soon.
I hope to with this helped some others too with there mods, I wish to put pictures but its too hard to make them, as things are too small.
But the mod is as simple as put a extern resistor or VR in parralel to the exisiting resistor which is on the board in front of the pin8
solder a wire directly onto the chip pin8 and find a ground point what you like , i use the screwhole tinned surface to ground the VR what make it easy for the solder job.
