All cool and dandy.... but why the F didn't they include that from the get-go?
Just when you thought EA couldn't do anything more ridiculous. I bet they were going to try and pass this off as DLC.
well dragon age 2 take s 7GB and dragon age takes 20, so i think that they cut down on alot of stuff and made it 1 disk with a bunch of copied textures instead of a unique world. and it was supposed to be streamlined so that normally means that its now hack n slash and linear. or its alot shorter
Here's some explanations for all of you:
Deadlines are important in business. They went gold with the game some weeks ago and didn't have time to get the textures all out the door. Now they have, it's free and downloadable pre day 1 release. If they waited, you'd have to wait till like april until dragon age came out. Not great for business.
Dragon age 2 is a lot smaller because they found someway to compress the level footprints by 70% and used a different compression on the sound as well removed a few fully voiced languages from the game. The game is a little shorter. Doesn't include the "origins" quests that were present in the original game. But it should be comparable.
i knew today's date was important to me for some reason.... dragon age 2!
only if the res pack didnt take more than half a day to dload...
i've been playing the game for the last 2 hours, with the high res pack...
this game is very demanding.
with a i7-920 and 6970, max setting, no AA/AF, 2560x1440, I am getting only around 30 FPS, still quite playable.
nothing is OCed.... yet. I have never had a need to OC anything, even Crysis runs max settings without a problem.
i am a mage, the graphical effects are :banana::banana::banana: so far for my spells, DA:O has better effects in my opinion.
the game is very sped up, everything is moving fast, it's quite annoying.
i can't comment much on the graphics so far, it's mostly been cut scenes and talking. I just arrived to a city where i think i can start to actually play the game..
it definitely feels like this is console oriented so far.
i really miss being able to zoom all the way up, but it seems fine so far.
I'm getting terrible performance in the game so far, and this is on 480 SLi with a Core i7 overclocked to 4.2ghz. And I'm not the only one. I know several people with a similar set up as mine and they are all getting unsatisfactory performance.
It has to be the drivers or something, because graphically the game isn't exactly cutting edge.
The beta driver on nvidia site is supposed to resolve some issues.
I think She's lookin good :0
This is just high settings, very high causes me a bit of lag.
Texture pack is enabled as well as dx11, just no advanced DOF or SSAO.

From what i heard, game seems to be major let down.
Thats what happens when you make a game in what 1 and half year of actual development of the game?
God ruined a perfectly good franchise, now coming out with another one "Dragon Age: Legends".. *sigh*
WTF is this sword ? Looks like final fantasy crap.It doesnt look "good" for me also on this screenshot :-/.
Pcgamer gave this 94, which i find ridicolous, because i would not give such a highscore to the best game of all time for me, which was Fallout 2.
Is there any gaming site which doesnt rate every game 70-90% ?
I mean bad games should get 20-40% score, and on the sites ive visited no such thing ever happened.
I guess the question is, are there any good review sites for pc games left ?
You're in it. I'll post my thoughts soon. I have a xeon 3540 and a gtx 460 1920x1200 res. just dled the nvidia betas. I'll report back.
our xs friend told me he has it running on his super rig (Core i7-980X 2x 580 in sli)and he cant run it maxed out on his rig. I'll ask him if he has those beta drivers.
Without the advanced DX11 features turned on it runs pretty good, but yeah , even with my 980x and tri SLI 480's I can't max it without dropping into the 40's of FPS, still playable, but barely.
I just use very high without the DOF or SSAO and get 75 fps.
First Dragon Age ran smooth as butter with my 2x 260gtx's in SLI.
Now with DA2 I have 2x 460gtx SOC for SLI and its choppy as heck.
I installed the high rez textures and tried it all maxed out.
I get a fair amount of textures going black at certian points tho.
Trying to find the sweet spot for this now.
My CPU is still a 975e @ 3.9ghz.
But I have been running this installed OS for about a year now, with everything else. Maybe it's time to do a fresh install LOL :)
I just disabled all checkboxes but high res textures and my FPS jumped from 30 to 50
somehow when i disabled high res textures, i lost 2 FPS ??? and it definitely makes a huge difference with them on, so they are staying on
Interesting, I just dropped the setting down one to High and its smooth as butter now, no black textures now also.
The new NV beta drivers get rid of the flashing black textures.
ok, this game is getting funner, but i still dont like how sped up the fighting is.
it's near impossible to plan a good attack.
if i pause the game, do a fireball attack at a group, unpause, and half a second later they managed to all run away and attack ppl 20feet away.
also, freezing is way sped up, people dont stay frozen for long, it's like less than a second...
i loved in DA:O being able to freeze someone then stonefisting them and having them explode, i havn't even had the chance to do that yet in this game
Game just unlocked in Australia.
Not liking the many gameplay changes, but I think the grahics problems must be nVidia-related. I'm running it on max details at 5760x1080 (Eyefinity) with DX11 and the high-def texture pack, no AA or V-Sync, and so far it's all as smooth as you could want.
well you have crossfired 5870's.... i couldn't imagine that you would have trouble playing any games.
I have had 0 issues whatsoever with this game, also with an ATI card, I just cant have all of the settings checked unless I want to play at 30FPS.
Waiting for it then . From what ive seen. ive been pretty put off by gameplay ,but i dont know, maybe it gets better, storyline is good.It gets more complicated later on.If its going to be hack`n http://www.gunsnfnroses.com/public/s...ault/Slash.gif ill wait with buying to get it cheaply somehow.
Lots of blood and guys assplodin' which is fun hehe. :)

pissed me off last night when i couldn't select all of the members of my party... due to the fact that you cant zoom out far, and my party members were pretty close too.
If you post that on Bioware's forum, you'll be banned :D
He already is. :p:
tbh you are nothing but trolling, i appreciate the general humor. But nearly all of that is bs.
Try button mashing on nightmare and you'll die in 20 seconds. The graphics are certainly better than DAO, the high res textures are pretty good, and I'm not running DX11 either.
Very true, there is little button mashing but what annoys me how ridiculous the combat is on hard/nightmare. They always come in waves making it difficult to plan and how you always walk into perfectly positioned enemies making it so that the only way you'll win is to abuse the system by running back into a choke point and funnel em all in. Even with this, you can't stop them from passing the doorway by body blocking with a tank. Also you can't even check the statuses that you inflict on enemies for abilities like Death Hex so you gotta disable all the tactics and do it manually. DA2 is definitely a big step back since all you do now is spam AoE due to the sheer number of enemies and with the removal of more than half the skill set from DA:O to dumb it down for the console players.
Honestly, the gfx looks like crap if you were ever to get to the camera to get a close look at the npcs as it clearly shows that they optimized it for consoles and did a piss poor port to the PC. At least they didn't have a hit "start" button to start the game. Lastly, I don't think I've ever played a game where copy-paste has been used so so so so extensively its mind boggling. MMORPGs have more sudden copy-paste than this just shows how little time they were was in development, all courtesy of EA. They ruin everything they touch, I just hope BF3 got vaccinated against the virus that is EA.
The thing is though I dont like games that are insanely difficult due to having enemy hitpoints and damage raised by a factor of 10 or something like that.
In this kind of game, what I was expecting and looking forward to was the same kind of gameplay I had in DAO at normal difficulty - Challenging boss fights, normal difficulty enemies, friendly fire, and an isometric top down camera view. This game ommits two of those, and the only way to get friendly fire enabled is to play on an insane difficulty level, and you can forget all about the traditional iso view gameplay.
The hard and nightmare difficulties in this game seem to make it feel far worse to play, and thats coming from someone who played Deus Ex 1 on their first, second and third playthroughs on Realistic difficulty.
Right now, I'm perfectly enjoying playing this RPG:
http://www.avernum.com/avernum6/index.html
THe gameplay is spot on and perfect for what I like, but I do wish the graphics were a lot better :(
The graphics are certainly better than Baldurs Gate, and the RPG I posted above as well, but I didnt realise that comparing a game released in 2011 to games from many years ago is how graphics are compared.Quote:
The graphics are certainly better than DAO, the high res textures are pretty good, and I'm not running DX11 either.
Oblvion, Fallout 3 and ME2 still eat this game alive graphically, and when compared to other upcoming 2011 titles such as Witcher 2, Skyrim, Deux Ex 3, Crysis 2, even Return of Alice, I really dont understand how its possible to defend the graphics in what was meant to be a AAA bioware title released this year. As for the high res textures only being available for download, and the DX11 mode being so buggy and added on very late into the games development, this to me is proof that this game was made for consoles first and ported over to the PC, with better textures and DX11 added on as an afterthought.
Really, this game has nothing compared to other cRPGs. Just about every other PC game also being released this year is literally going to skin DA2 alive in terms of, well, pretty much everything.
DA2 is also doing nothing but trolling the cRPG fans and PC gaming community. I'm not bothered if you or anyone else like the game, that doesnt mean that it isnt what it definitely is - a standard cookie cutter, dumbed down, console first hack n slash game with no feel of cRPG or Bioware to it at all. This game has absolutely nothing about it compared to the titles I listed above. I've already played just about every single cRPG and MMORPG over the last 15 years, DA2 is shockingly bad for a game of this genre by Bioware.
'Now when you press a button, something awesome has to happen! So button = awesome, connected now, in Dragon Age 2'.
fair enough. Hopefully though, for yoursake as well. Bioware isn't as so easily corruptable by EA as things seem atm.
Like all things in nature, they oscillate. Bioware takes feedback pretty seriously, so they tried diversifying and went too far maybe, they might learn from these mistakes/reception and they'll lean back the other way.
If all goes well, we have a damped response where they home in on a perfect level, if not, well...it all blows up and gets worse and worse. But they are right about one thing. Change is necessary, sticking to exactly the same rehash over and over can be just as bad. Every change makes a wave but maybe next time it'll be closer to how the overally public want it to be.
I don't see how people have said that this game is easier at all difficulties. Ok so it's my first play through so i qualify as a noob...but compared to origins, nightmare mode...if you just stopped and thought nightmare mode on origins wasn't bad at all, it was clean and clinical, you always felt in control of how good you were. DA2...more uncertainties. Some enemies are horribly strong, the enemy stealth rogues are overpowered!, they can just disappear at will, stab you for half your health while you can do nothing about it and then heal..difficult to stun lock them long enough.
A lot of aggro juggling and kiting to survive in DA2 nightmare
@bhavv
Good pic.
Big LOL at the "I'm hungry" dialogue option... what a load of crap.
I'm skipping this game big time.
Heres another one then for you:
http://chzderp.files.wordpress.com/2...-a-durrgon.jpg
hey I don't know what you guys are crying about, I'm playing on a 4.6ghz 920 with a 5970 and I use dx11, high-res texture pack, AF and AA and I game at 2560x1600. The game definitely looks better on my end than on your crappy screenshots and it loads quicker than ME2 did.
Also, you should try the game at least at "hard" before complaining that it is too easy. From reading some of the critics here, it looks like people were expecting something different and aren't happy with the changes. I don't want to be playing clones of previous games for the next 15 years. Change is good.
Anyway, to the dude who couldn't target everyone in his party: ctrl + a. You're welcome.
Then why dont you press print screen, upload to imageshack and show us what it looks like?
I've not yet seen any screenshots posted from people who think that the game looks so good.
The graphics shown in official screenshots from reviews are hardly decent for a 2011 game.
Such a shame. I really liked DAO :( Even on the console DAO looked pretty good after a updated that gave some stuff higher res textures. Sad days. Hopefully ME3 will make up for all the crapness.
I don't know, I think this looks much better than the first one.
Game play is pretty good also and I like the story lines which imo are no better or worse than the first game.
I like it better than the first game in fact, but thats just me, but its only just a game.
I am still waiting for D3
