It had to happen sooner or later. Judgement reserved until I see some 3D Vision Surround performance data on 3x 30" screens.
Zomg hot hot pron!

:hump:
Surround maybe, but 3D will have to wait until we get 120 Hz displays over 1080p. Not that even GTX 580 SLI would have enough power for that.
Seriously.... get a waterblock...
This is the same cooler they have used on GTX 570 Phantom. Several reviews have been very positive about this cooler. They say it's a cool & quiet.
The 3GB is going to fill up the gap 6970-2GB has been enjoying all by itself. Here comes a new alternative for good SLI-scaling on multi monitors.
3gb ?
Looks nice, too bad I just ordered Evga 580 :(
Triple slot eh?
Triple slot, lol. Just to be a winned at overclock only, then best seller as best graphics on market.
Normaly who can afford that, can get even vater block and get graphics without 3x slot and put waterblock.
Hows math doing now?
Im not sure about the need for 3gb.But the card looks hot, and not in the 480 kind of thing ;-)
When it comes to slots, it's all Math.Ceiling().
Not actually criticizing. I just wanted to make a math/programming joke.

3GB will be interesting. If it's not terribly expensive (and I doubt it will be since they're just using double density ICs like on the Radeon), it should be good for the market. I'm not sure we need that much memory yet, but we do need more than 1.5 on some occasions. Since 3.0 is the next possible step, here we are. :)
If it is exactly like the gtx570 version, it'll be like this:

I can't see people getting SLI when there's no room between normal cards. Good for us SFF folks who want a quiet, cool card.
So how is this going to perform vs the 1536mb version? 2560x1600 MAY benefit?
I see what you mean. WC has always been a good option. But CPUs are shrinking and getting cooler, and you can actually max out a 2006k on air for 24/7. So some may find it difficult to justify WC just for GPU.
Several reviews on GTX 570 Phantom has been very positive about the performance of this cooler, they say it's a cool & quiet. But I agree, this cooler is too thick, they should at least keep it to double-slot.
Nice...
3gigs could com in handy for:
Game map editing.
Larger textures.
Higher resolutions.
Nice cards.
Wow this is getting serious now. I thought Gainward was on a solo-walk, but a second one in such a short time is suggesting this move has been coordinated from higher hold.
I suspect nVidia planning to make trouble for 6970-2GB, and this timing seams to be exact and right too.
Why are people making it sound like water cooling is some sort of plug and play solution. WC requires a lot of time, effort and patience. Far more than just chucking a card into a pci-e slot. This card is definitely niche but it would appeal to ppl with more money than time. The width is a concern but really, how many ppl have a motherboard crammed with add-in cards nowadays? If these clowns would add native wifi support to PC motherboards I would have nothing else but graphics cards plugged in.
It just shows that Nvidia isn't in a very good spot with their top card at the moment. Good, performance, yes. But not good enough (considering the increased die size and the price premium over 6970) at 2560x1600 and with multi-monitor configs, and now that they fixed it, the fix ends up being too expensive (1GB of VRAM none of which will not be used unless in the most extreme conditions such as 3D Surround + Metro, which will not be playable either way no matter how much VRAM you throw at it...).
Nvidia is just too expensive with their top cards this round. Makes much more sense to pick up 6850/70 (vs 580 1.5GB) or 6990 (vs 580 3GB) instead.
Great cooler design, though. Very stylish. Gotta give them that.
about time I think, this will bring some serious benefit for SLI, TRI SLI and Quad SLI when running surround but it would be nice to see a water-block for it as someone running 3 or more of these sure as heck would have money to water cool these things...
I wonder what the availably and pricing will be like...
When it comes to performance, my gtx 460 se is pretty good being that it's last gen's mid range.
Though it does not have enough shaders for maxed physx on mafia2 for full frame rate 100% of the time.
The expansion pack, joe's adventure, there's a mission where you have to trash a bar full of irish.
Trashing that bar bogs the living shiz out of card, brings it to a stand still.
The benchmark in that game is somewhat simuler but it doesn't drop to a stand still or anything when physx is maxxed out.
A normal 460 1gig might be enough to pull it off, or perhaps a 480.
This new gen is way better of course I'm sure.
Shame how much these cards always are.
$500, now $600 for launch cost.
I got my 460 se for under $120.
Brand new from newegg.
The Guy from ebay sold it to me for that much and baught it from newegg, had it shipped to me.
No idea how he got it that cheap, since I was keeping a close eye on the promo's and everything.
Has just enough texture units to pull off some 4x res stuff in pcsx2 in all the games I've tried so far.
I remember when top of the line wasn't enough.
Now it's more then enough :D.
Very nice to see more cards with over 1.5gigs.
3gigs, heck ya..., the more the better even if I can't use a gig or so of it.
Edit:
This 580 3gig is probably the card you want the next gen games.
Might be a little low on shaders by then, who knows, but it should have at least close to the amount of mem it'll need for max details on those most demanding games.
Somewhat future proof for a little while probably.
Yeah anybody with an SSD nowadays is just plugging it into a sata port. Same goes for raid. As for sound cards they're still relevant but far less so after the loss of hardware acceleration in Windows. Now it's a niche and unnecessary accessory. Point still stands, we have way more slots than we need for a typical setup. What they need to do is position the pcie slots to better accommodate wider graphics cards.
oh everyone that wants performance
Not too unnecessary, Most motherboard manufactures nowadays use Realtek sound, but they cheep out and don't go for their chip that supports DDL/DTS, optical is practically worthless without that.
Id rather have a single Video card along with am Auzentech sound card, Intel network card, and a raid card, only thing holding me back on the latter is that soon as I buy one, you know one will come out that supports Trim on Raid.
Now that the OCZ Revo is around, a lot more than you might think.
This is Xtremesystems remember? There is no such thing as too many slots.
The R3E has the best layout (and actually my favourite X58 board). I fit three GTX460s, a PCI soundcard, my ioXtreme PCIe SSD, and my RAID card. I have yet to find another board capable of that. :p:
Why the hell they fit dual DVI + HDMI + DP, it can still operate 2 monitors
Overclockers have the Phantom 570s in stock, I really really like the cooler, but £320 each
Ouch, noty. I'd need to have two, even if one would suffice. They would look awesome on my mobo :(
Fudzilla posted the first look article. Looks like a great card. Very expensive, though...
Gainward GeForce GTX 580 Phantom 3072MB Review

hehe @ $20 more, I see pixmania selling it for 770€.. juuuuust 270€ more :p
Not bad for $20 premium.
i think pixmania has a "random price" guy, they sell the Gainward GooD for 639€ and had a special offer this WE for 469...wich is a good price compared to the around 500€ you find it elsewhere ^^
well don't pay too much attention to off the charts prices from pixmania ;)
That card will do some serious iray rendering.
sexy
Looks very nice!
Who's going to be first to put a water block or a pot on it?
http://www.tcmagazine.com/tcm/news/h...-card-february
Edit: didnt know where to put it (dam nubs)
If EK make some beautiful blocks for it i will have trouble not to trade the 480:s for this one. I know they are doing one for the nonref. GTX570 Gainward.
540€ komplett wants for it i can accept x3.

"Due to demand and request we decided to start working on waterblocks for nonreference Geforce 570 GTX graphic cards.
Cards in question are made by Palit and Gainward.
ETA 4-8 weeks."
Tempted to pick 3 of these puppies on komplett for the price of the week (470€)
Might be a sub 200€ deal after i sell the worst one of my two 980x and the 480:s with wc block on.
do they have to do so long cards? cos of them even cases are going to abnormal sizes...
How much money???
Overclock.uk has them for pre-rder 400 pounds and Amazon in the US has the Palit version pre-order for $628.
Good news from what I can tell, the GTX 570 phantom PCB and the 3GB GTX 580 phantom PCB's, atleast from the back and the solder points look identical. This would make it easier for water block manufacturers to release a single block for multiple versions of the card.

I hope EK understand this PCB sharing and make the block compatible with the two extra memorychip 580 has compared to 570 and widened the memorypad to support the 580.
EDIT: I had to mail them about it and we see what they say in the matter and if they are aware of it have the opertunity to leave material alone to support the memorychip for 580 3GB that 570 dont have.
Good deal, I also emailed them with the same info.
I pre-ordered three of the Palit versions on Amazon seeing as if for some reason water blocks don't come out for them, I still have a 2-slot air cooler designed for fitting tri/quad SLI.
Some more info: http://vr-zone.com/articles/vr-zone-...w/10933-1.html
Just ordered 2 looking forward to see how they perform!
3xPhantom 3GB comming my way 4:th of february. Could not hold off anymore to wait for ASUS and/or EVGA.
Waterblock or not it will fit even if it take up/block all 7 slot.
Did you order them from Overclocker UK? I went with 3x Palit 2-slot cooler design which allows me the option of a 4th card if I decide to go that route. Seeing as Palit/Gainward are the first to have the balls to do a non-reference 3GB GTX 580, they deserve the business. ;)
Komplett.se. They have/had a sweet deal of 470€ from normal 540€ for them.
If they do good enought on air i may not go WC on them, but it is nice to see the 480SC idle at 32celsius so if that can be sub 30 on the 580 i would like to see it IF the EK block fits.
ER ... nice price ... the 3gb phantom is what, 700's Eur ?
Ohhh i thought you were talking about the 1.5Gb version ...
hmmm nice ... :)
So any word on availability in the US?
