GSKILL Ripjaws 2x4GB and 4x4GB - Sandy Bridge Kits

hey guys

just received a couple kits of the latest sandy bridge gear from gskill, these kits are targeted at working specifically with sandy bridge..

sandy is a bit of a different ram clocker than we are used to with X58 and especially Lynnfield.. as we are locked to small BCLK changed there is not a huge amount of room to move up and down with our overclocking...

for example on the 2133 ratio you can go from about 1035MHz with low BCLK to about 1111MHz with 105ish BCLK, hopefully in the future we will see more BCLK options to really open up these kits... you wont see any 2400 MHz style ram clocks yet..

that being said, the bandwidth on sandy bridge is very impressive and we dont really require that huge ram frequency to get some very efficiency performance...

i found especially when running 16GB density i could of used some more BCLK, finding a combination that worked well with it was quite difficult and this at the moment is a sandy bridge limitation instead of a kit limitation.. if you look at the results from Hiwa on 1156 you can see 2200 MHz LINX with high density..

i will have some 1156 results to follow in the coming days..

dr dan, I didnt buy yet but they seem so cheap and im curious I havent bought ram since the kingston khx 2000 7 kit and the pi black kit. I just got excited.
I havent bought anything yet. I am still contemplating if I should even go for a sandy rig.
I guess you are right I should get my sandy rig and try my pi blacks on them first.

I'm pretty sure your PI Black kit will do fine, it's probably using the same chips as the kit you linked to anyway.

Thanks, i have 2x2gb GTX3, my i3 540 could not use the GTX3 well. I couldn't use more of 1680Mhz, it's better configuration was 1600 6-7-5-18 1T 60.

because for a PSC kit to hit tighter TRCD it needs to be a tighter bin... its much easier to tighten cas on PSC than trcd

My local dealer has just listed some new kits. They got a really good price, but the timing is not the best I've seen.

These are 1.5v tho, so I'm wondering if it's possible to push them more. Anybody has been playing with these? Otherwise any thoughts?

yes i think the 8-9-8 kit is a better bin, but it is very difficult to say mate,

every kit is different, so some 7-10-7 kits might be much better than the 8-9-8 and vicaversa,

I would suggest to buy the kit that most suites you requirements, then if it doesnt go way out of spec, it is already meeting most of your requirements. Then you can try push it and any performance benefits you get are a bonus. This is the way I will always suggest to buy a ram kit so you don't get disappointed if it doesnt work how you think it might

i'm testing the pi 4gb 2k C6, 2.3k C8's ,Mach Xtreme 2.3k C8's and some handpicked 2k C8's PSC's from Corsair

so far the 2k C6's are awesome at stable 2200mhz 7-10-7-28 1n at 1.625v set ( Read load is 1.617v on dmm) on m4e.. pcie 103.2
