In the spirit of friendly competition (cont...)

Who are your current friendly rivals? They can be on or off team XS. For me its always changing based on the situations and my output at the time. Right now my WCG friendly rivals are:

Stoneageman - For maybe ~2 months this summer i constantly just edged out SAM by a few PPD then he upgraded and started to blow me away. I started my upgrade and thought I would catch him but then his PPD kept shooting up and up and he's still getting the best of me :rolleyes: SAM, i'm comming for ya! :D

Muddy101 - Much the same, I was edging him out for a bit before he suddenly started blowing me away with all the dualie's and hexa's :)

Hypernova - he was on our team for XS supercomputer week, then left and stopped WCG for a while but hes back now. With all the upgrades many of our teamates have done several memebers are keeping up with or topping hypernova ever day.

And with my target goal of 100,000 Boinc PPD I have my eye on ucfcohpa, not too much of a rival though since thats University of Central Florida's College of Heath and Public Affairs and its hard to pretend to have a rivalry with a department of a college. It would still be nice to top a department of a college with computers in my garage though :D

I've been trying to catch PG for the past couple months... He just evaded me on GPUGrid a bit ago and since I have little chance there, thought I'd give him a run for it here.
(Just haven't told him cuz he's not within range yet)

Then I've already called out SnowCrash - he know's I'm commin and there aint nothin he can do! :cool:
(He seems to think he can hold me off, but the big guns are still coming...)

Then my long term goal? Catch Biker and sRHunt3r. They didn't even wave as they went by during supercomputer week... but I've more than doubled my output since then - the turbocharger is still awaiting installation and the NOS is currently in the mail. Goal is to match SR's output by christmas, then head for Biker's.
(Laugh while you can guys, but consider this your fair warning!)

Oh, and MM - that means you're in the sites too... Unfortunately I'm only accurate to a couple miles.

They all wanted to go to this Thai place.
I really didn't because I know what was coming but everyone else wanted to go there so I went along..
I order the MILDEST stuff on the menu.
Didn't taste hot at all.
This is like 8PM..
The next morning at 5:25am I wake up and in 3 steps cross 14 ft to serlvs bathroom..
At 8:30am I walked out feeling like I'd just gone 5 rounds with a 21 year old Mike Tyson.
Thai food? It will never cross my lips again..:p:

I tried some of that Sichuan Frogs in Shanghai this year. The waitress just put the hot bowl on the table. I saw the red, imitating sauce bubbling, with the big red chili pepper.

At first I thought they were regular peppers, no biggie. Had a spoonful of the frog and I just spit the whole thing out. Drank a cub of coconut milk. Then ate it again. First it was painful, but after you get used to it, it is good I tell ya.
I had 5 bowls of rice only with the frogs. And I didn't have aching throat the second morning.:rofl:

That has to be the most delicious thing I had for 2 years.:up:

That Sichuan food is something else... The most extreme Sichuan resturant I ever went to, as soon as I walked through the door it was like getting sprayed in the face with a can of mace :eek: My eyes started to water and throat burn; I didn't eat too much food that lunch (and I can tollerate hot food just fine! :))

Oh yeah, in Chinese some of the food literally translates to "numb-spicy." They really numb your tongue when you eat them :D

Until someone has seen the bear, who is to say it even exists? If nobody saw the event occur, it is uncertain as to whether or not it ever happened.

I disagree though. 4-6 drops on one piece of food (ie: chicken wing) and it gets REALLY hot.

I was also watching you,slaveondope ,werdwerdus,who has slowed right down and where did hendrmd come from.I had 1 i7 920 down for a week while I was away.back up now but i need to do maint.on my water cooled rig and i hope to crank it up.it's only at 3.04ghz right now. :D I'm also haven't figured out this posting thing yet!

each blade pulls about 180-200w ... let's say 190w x16 = 3040w
and at least 42k /day per blade ... 42x16 =672.000 wcg points/day

We were close for a long time. After I kind of met you trial by fire by me having a bad day I considered you a perfect running matefor some time and still have been watching for you to make page 3 :) I was barly pulling 100 more than you. Alas I'm going to be doubling my output in 8 days, and then the clocks go back up to 4ghz as it's getting c c c cold here in canada :) Heres to 20K by summer 2011.

I did enjoy it though who am I kidding haha, I was the bottom feeder who ate EVERYONES dust here on WCG for 5 years my friend, so I suppose it feels really good to have someone mention to want to beat me, kinda feels good.

O.K. game on I don't hear much from nbarsotti, but that is who I have my eye on !
We are less than 50k boinc points apart and trade position on rac. Last week I had a headless quad core go down on me for about a day and he darn near caught me. So I had to think quick and change my wives mobo from an olddddd Athalon to a old Athalon running an Opteron 185. That is until her new 875k parts arrives sometime this week.

Problem is I have a tonne of work to do on my machines swapping CPU's, boards and installing new O.S.'s and of course my main machine a 980x will be down while I swap boards to the ReIII and some new water cooling components as well as having to install a tonne of software. Obviously my RAC is going to drop during this period so I've got about 50k to work with before nbarsotti catches me.
If you read this nbarsotti, be easy on me while I reconfigure things, yea right :)

Just have to put my 2 cents in on this - To those of you who are just starting out or feel like you're a little guy and your contributions are small, please realize almost everyone here started in your same position. I worked for over a year with just two SINGLE CORE cpus, and got just shy of a million WCG out of em. EVERY little bit counts - especially if you have time on your side (and because of that I do crunch on my mother's atom netbook :rofl:)

Also, it is possible to make some serious output without spending lost of money. I'm a poor college student, I don't have the resources a lot of the other big guys have here, and I definitely don't even have a disposable income (School costs >> Income). Just realize, you guys are some of the most tech savvy people in the world... And you're pretty bright. Be creative. :up:

I think poppageek and whitefiredragon should watch out in wcg and pie stealer in gpu grid should watch otu also cause i could be back sooner than you might think.

I need those 4 pcie slot for 4 gts 450 to get back some pie in gpugrid. What you think is the best choice ???

I'd go with the 870. You'll get a better clock on that and more ppd/$, but that's just me.

And why 450 over 460?

i dont think my 1kw strider plus could give enough power for 4 gtx 460 and a cpu crunching. But yeah the 870 could be the best choice

SLI zone has 2 460s on a 650W and 3 470s on a 950W... so I think it would work.

Could also throw in a small drive bay power supply just for a graphics card or two. :shrug:

It was P-Pro180 256KB cache, 64MB RAM, 2GB HDD Win95
After diving into the parts bins:
P-Pro200 512KB cache, 128MB RAM, 8GB HDD currently installing W2K, might throw Linux on it later. Keeping the Win95 drive ... in case ... of something.
Will definitely be installing BOINC if only to run a benchmark and get a single figure result! :ROTF:

You know, I was thinking about you just the other day.. I set up my new HTPC with Ubuntu and XBMC, and while that is the most awesome media center around, I had a lot of, err, "fun" setting it up. I reel in anticiption of the configuration I still have left to do (getting my Logitech Harmony One remote to work...)

I so hope XBMC will be released for Win soon (with working TV features...)

Yeah yeah, settle down. Win98se was the OS on my first "PC" which I followed with Win2k, so I still have a SLIGHT soft spot for it. I'm keeping the Win95 install that was already on this machine on it's drive since it's so damn small. I'd have to run something like DSL or Puppy Linux to get down to that kind of size, neither of which I'm overly familiar with.

I'll let this thing crunch a couple of units (yes it actually can do that ... at about one HCC unit a day) just so it shows up on the grid for once in it's life, but I won't keep it on there for long ... unless I can slow down easynews' validations somehow.

PPro 180s were the same chips as the 200s once you set the bus speed to 66mhz. ;) (As you probably already know)

I had a Gateway workstation at a job many moons ago that I jumpered to 66mhz on a PPro 180, no one ever noticed. Go go NT4!

As it happens I didn't know that, but I have two 180MHz/256KB units, one 200MHz/256KB unit and two 200MHz/512KB units. I slipped one of the latter into this board. Unfortunately I don't have any of the 200MHz/1MB cache units.

Win95 was a POS, as far as I can remember. Mind you, I was 11 when we got our first PC with Win95, so I don't remember much.
All that I CAN remember is that this supposedly great machine (1997 Packard Bell with a P200MMX) hardlocked every few hours... so I opened it and just touched everything - and burnt my hand in the process :rofl:
The CPU had a small passive heatsink on it, which wasn't nearly enough. So in my infinite wisdom as a 11-year-old, I left the PC open and put mom's ventilator in front of it :D
Needless to say, mom didn't likle the aesthetics.. BUT it worked :rofl:

I think that was the day when I got hooked, only to become a PC hardware maniac a few years later :D :shakes: :shrug:

I was given one of those machines with a P166MMX in it and 32MB of RAM a few years back.
I slipped a P200MMX into it and maxed it out to 128MB the first day I had it. :ROTF: I still have the CPU in my collection here somewhere.

I'm not much of an overclocker, but I do tend to jam the biggest chip into a board that it will possibly handle.

Oh, and Win95 was most definitely a POS, but it has a little historical value as what happens when MS tries to "get clever". Just like WinME and Vista.

I have always been a Windows guy, for both the good and the bad, but I have really had no serious issues with Win XP or Win7.

But an Apple friend of mine sent me this a few years ago and I thought it was save worthy :rofl:
