hey OC_Windforce! Mine maxed out the same on air. 884 stock voltage for core, 900 passed +50mv but no scaling at all after that. Where you able to get higher with more voltage? I went up to +150 with no gain in speed.

Lovely card. I'd have gone this route vs a 470, but my PSU can't power a 3 pci-e power beast like this card.

Is there a better video card than MSI GTX 480 Lightning? 900mhz on air, 1400mhz on LN2

I've compiled a few things we did that might help people to get higher clocks on the Lightning: http://elmor.se/view/108/howto_overc...ghtning_on_ln2

From mine and Henrys findings, the most important things are to use good thermal paste (OCZ Freeze) in combination with keeping the pcb warm. This is basically what allowed us to run 1400 core on these cards. If the thermalpaste looses some of it's conductance at low temperatures, it will have huge impact since the heat emitted from the GPU is quite severe.

Still amazed you didn't touch PLL voltage and ran those clocks because it scaled core clocks with the two cards we benched. Maybe yours can run 1500+ :up:

Haha, we'll see. We tested with higher PLL but didn't gain anything (just the small boost from the vSwitch).

I just only did keep cool -50 proadlizer and hi cap...OCP unlocker...:confused:

had a quick go with card #1 (used at the event) this weekend. After lots of trouble last week, this time it went much better with the use of OCZ Freeze thermalpaste.

Now ill just need to get hold of a nice cpu.
the card is a monster! .. got 25mhz more out of it by playing a bit with PLL voltage (+100) and vswitch-on

Well, it's partly limited. You will loose a few fps at that low cpu freq.

That's true as well, if you push the cpu to just 4.5-5g you'll have no cpu limitation :)

i run vantage like blow :

GT1 highest possible CPU frequency + highest possible gpu
GT2 something like 5700(higher doesn't help) on cpu and highest possible gpu
cpu test on nvidia scales very bad but at least it's some little points(+6.3 is dream)
on ATI cards highest possible @ all, push to max anything and u gain

That seems correct, Henry was running 4ghz lynnfield so ofc he will be a bit cpu limited.

Thanks! When I get some time and LN2 I'll try some 03, it's alot harder due to lower load (more coldrelated issues). There has to be more Lightning samples that can do similar frequency and Gigabyte is launching their GTX 480 SOC so I'm not so sure this score will prevail for very long.

Been spending the weekend with my friend Coldest, benching the GTX480 Lightning.

Honestly, this VGA gave me the headache, I need to spend about 45L just to get the Vantage run done(and since my dewar is only 15L, that means 3x refilling, the LN2 factory itself was about 35Km from our place)

Sometimes the VGA just feels 'right', and can bench at 1300++, but sometimes I can't even click 'apply' on the afterburner with GPU clock 1350+.

Well, finally got the lucky run with 1400Mhz GPU (I guess there's still potential left, but I haven't got money to buy anymore LN2 :ROTF: )

mine is a failure, or i am could be either really :eek: :mad:

will run 1150 core all day from -80c to -180c @ +200v but anything higher is no good, tryed up to +350v with no change in stability. Kept PCB slightly warm to touch by the bracket back switches and prodalizer no frost on card at all still nothing. Oh well, am I allowed to sell this before release? :rofl: This is my 10th fail session with it



Elmor or luckyn00b if you have the time would you be willing to test my card and see if some of these are really 300mhz better than others or if its my technique?
Id hate to have another lightning 5870 fiasco go down.
