Playing with Micron D9GMH: CAS 3 to 5

I'll let that one sit for a while, nothing impressive but I've got some stuff to take care of. This board only gives 2.5v so be sure that I'm gonna push it all the way. :yepp:

Nice, should have some more in it at 2.3v CL3.

If its good D9, it'll run 3-3-3-12 800 @ 2v or less.

maybe tweaking max cl4? compared it in superpi benchmarks pls (think, not only 1M, but 8M will good for some diferences)

Im working on my first AM2 bench's with a Athlon x2 4450e(2.3ghz):yepp:, Asus M3A78-CM:down: and some DDR2-800 CL6:rofl::ROTF:

Right now at 3.1ghz and the RAM at an amazing 900mhz 66616:eek::rolleyes:

What would be some good ddr2 to look out for?

It will around 2.1v.

I think it's the motherboard, my ProMOS doesn't do 3-3-3 at all but does CAS 5 at 1250. I'm maxing out at 1270 with these sticks.

CAS 4 limit is around 1150 with 2.5v :rolleyes:

These are G*Skill sticks...I believe they are GMH but they may even be even lower binned KPT. No time to heat em up and pull off spreaders. It definately has more in it CL3, but probably only about ~435-450. No 475-500.

Max CAS 3 @ 2.51v: Dunno if the board is limiting HT Ref. Clock, but I know that the ram doesn't like the 667 divider. Not even 800 CAS 3. I need to update the BIOS, I haven't had this board out for a long time.

I have two sets here for four sticks, I'm going 4GB in an hour or so.

try maxing out the sticks ,what ever cas . 2.5 v is enough

880 3-3-3-5 is stable enough for 1M.

However my CPU is not stable enough for any kind of fast-ish 1M. I can run 4250-4300 possibly.

Boot at 1115 4-4-4-5, haven't pushed CAS 4 too much yet. Much better than 1040 4-4-4-5 of my ProMOS sticks.

You'll never get far mistreating D9s like that. Not many D9s responded well to very tight timings. If you want max frequencies at set timings you need to make your bases 3-3-3-12/15/18, 4-4-4-12/15/18, 5-5-5-12/15/18. Above 2.5v without proper cooling you will just blow the sticks up. When I done some stuff for Mushkin I done exactly that with a PC8000 Redline kit :D

IMO 4-4-4 is the way to go, maybe 4-4-3 (depending on what clocks you can get with whatever divider you use).

575 (how stable?) at 2.5v isn't that bad (unless it's a suicide screenie:p:). With more voltage maybe 590-600 is doable.

As for mistreating them...

I can hardly do 1050 4-4-4-12 with 2.2v. Take that with whatever thought you want.

your sticks seem pretty good IMO. i used to have 4x1gb of the ballistix 533cl3 sticks (a663's ;)), i dont member any exact max's but i think very similar to yours

The 6400 HZ has always been D9GMH, just FYI, D9KPT is DDR3. ;)
You meant D9JKH, right?

Looks like mediocre sticks to me, not bad but nothing really great. Good clocks imho when you take into consideration it's not a high-binned kit. :)

I have never killed a kit as well though, and I ran 32M at >2.65V many times, I think you'll be fine with a fan over them.

Good sticks will get you DDR800 C3, DDR1000 C4 or DDR1200 C5 at 2.1v or less, your sticks aren't BAD but do you know their history? They may have been volt damaged.

D9s do die, 3.375v will kill them pretty quickly (hush, knopflerbruce :p: ).

Bought them from Cecil two days ago. The kit I HAVENT touched yet, he just tested to see if they work and put em back in. This kit has seen 2.4-2.5v before but not much over.

Please compare the DDR3 lists and tell me which is more comprehensive ;) My RAM (OCZ OCZ3N2000SR2GK Nvidia SLI Ready DDR2000 1.9v) doesn't even feature on ramlist.i4memory.com , yet the link I posted shows me that they're D9GTR or D9GTS.

That's possible as well, but they are all made from the same die anyway, so you might find some good D9GCT and some bad D9GMH.

AMD is not fond of C3 on ddr II just some FYI, If you ran some performance comparisons you would already know this ;)

A word of advice, make good friends with memtest. With memtest you will find you can get much higher with less volts if you find the rams sweet spot timings.

I just started with it because I have some plans for my 5600+ and ram later on with DI. :yepp:

I'll look into memtest. :yepp:

Rather use LN2 than DI, as DI will probably make you cold bug to hell and back.

I've got a plan... :p:

Taking an AM3 stock cooler and "modifying" it to hold DI in the middle. No need for a pot on a CPU with a cold bug like that.

Close enough, the BIOS has the option to boot to Memtest which is what I did, thinking it would boot to Windows while I made lunch (or whatever it was that I did). I came back to a blank screen and now they don't boot unless they really want to :/

Ah, same as my Mushy D9s. They don't want to boot anymore unless they feel like it :poke:

Ive got OCZ FlexXLC PC6400 (ProMos). Not to hijack the thread but what do you think this kit of OCZ should do?

Got it at a fairly nice setup at the mo but wondering if they can go further. HTT is at 250mhz at the mo but it freezes if i add any more.

Ill make another thread if beep wants me to.

I can't remember any specifics about ProMos but if memory serves they wont respond well to voltages above 2v, and will top out anywhere between 1100-1200 typically. Again, if I remember right OCZ FlexXLC that used ProMos wern't that great, so they will probably max around 1100 5-5-5-15.

My ProMOS do 1200 CAS 5 stable at 2.2v.
They scale well until 2.5v.
I eeked out a 1264 Mhz CAS 5 validation last week.

Good sticks should do 1000-1066 4-4-4-12 at reasonable (~2.2v) voltage.

Your ProMos would seem to be a exception to the norm. I don't remember seeing a single ProMos kit doing well above 2v :confused:

They are specced at 800 4-4-3-8 @ 2.2v, they do ~1000 stable at 4-4-3-5 :yepp:...and 800 4-4-3-8 at 2.0v.

They still seem a exception to the norm to me I vaugely recall a ProMos discussion here on XS and nobody was getting any worthwhile results above 2v. Oh well, history now I guess.

Ive just put together a rig.

The RAM doesnt seem to be the limiting factor though.

SSDs sure would help for when I run out of storage capacity :D Nice stix you got there, those PC9200 LVs sure do look sexy still ;) Those G-Skills should be badass as well. Supertalent stix look ugly.. still.. even memory stix have to have the ugly friend tagging along :p:

If I had bought my SuperTalents just two or three weeks earlier than I did they would have been D9GKX. By that time they had been phased out of production. (A lot of newegg reports of 1100+ 4-4-3-8 @ 2.2v? Yeah, that would have been nice)

I'm still a little angry about that. ;). The G.Skill's and SuperTalent have the same PCB (8 layer Brainpower) but the G.Skill are black.

The brainpower PCB was epic for helping in sky high overclocks, but for some reason a lot of people reported stability problems with the brainpower PCB after some usage, AFAIK thats why that PCB got rare with some manufacturers D9 kits.

That SuperTalent kit has been run 18 hours a day straight for I dunno, two and a half years. Still clocks awesomely. :ROTF:

My STT DDR3 also features some kind of 8-layer Brainpower PCB (It's actually hard to get in the slot).

This STT is the one u said its Promos ?
