What brand is the card? What voltage a 900?
Now run Vantage without cheating :p: Set PhysX to run on the CPU in the nV control panel.
Cheating is a strong word. Perhaps Gaul just doesn't know. Gaul, when you post scores for Vantage, never cover the lowest part of the GPU-Z gui. People look for that PhysX box to be un-checked. PhysX substantially enhances performance in Vantage. I've posted several examples here. You can plainly see the difference in my scores, with/without PhysX enabled.
Hope this helped.
EDIT:--- When I ran those benchmarks I used GPU-Z version 4.2 which did not support the GTX 460 card. Since then, I have acquired v4.4 which does provide support for the 460. I just posted the new version which is now reporting the proper information. Sorry about the inaccuracy of the original GPU-Z in the screenshots.
What about updating the GPU-Z and reposting the results?
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-Z_v0.4.4.html
good idea though, come on guys, post your max 460 clocks, im curious what the average ocs are :)
900 is nice, what fanspeed and voltage? :)
I see nothing wrong with version 4.2. It was accepted and verified by HWBOT for team points.
I cannot see how a new version of GPU-Z could possibly make any difference in my scores, with the exception of the usual +/- about 200 points variance between runs. However, I see that that GPU-Z v4.4 has some added support, or compatibility for the GTX 460. Hmmm, that might be interesting. I'll download it, and make these runs again as soon as I have time, perhaps this weekend. It would be interesting to see if GPU-Z reports anything different in it's newer iteration.
Best my KFA GTX460 1GB does is 880/4400 GPU @ 1.1v. will get some results once KFA send me a new vBIOS that hopefully sorts out the bootup / restart issues.
I might consider one or two of those 01G-P3-1373-ER - 1GB EVGA GTX 460 SC, 3800MHz GDDR5, GPU 763MHz, ShaderClock 1526MHz, SLI would be the way to go due to the power consumption efficiency, no promises here, just keen on it.
what matters is gpu score when ppu ON

No, it doesn't. Vantage is rediculously biased, which is why if you want any kind of accurate score you run Vantage with PhysX set to run on the CPU.
+1 ^ He's 100% correct. PVHK, you will find that in fact, HWBOT will not even accept your score as valid, unless they can verify that PhysX has been disabled, and it's function turned over to the CPU. I see a lot of guys getting all bent out of shape over this, and I don't understand why.
I intentionally posted 2 runs on my machine, with, and without, PhysX enabled, just to show how skewed the score becomes when the GPU has access to run PhysX.
Post your best run with PhysX disabled, and then you, and everyone else will recognize a valid score. Good Luck.:)

however i don't see major improvement on gpu score physx on compared to off
will post 900/1050 physx off ASAP...
I can't help but question if PhysX is actually disabled, especially because you don't show the GPU-Z primary "Graphics Card" tab GUI.
Turning off PPU in Vantage will not completely disable PhysX which so many people believe. Prove it to yourself. Leave PPU enabled in Vantage. Now go into nVidia Control Panel and go into "Set SLI & PhysX Configuration". Now choose "CPU" from the "PhysX Settings" drop down menu. Now when you run Vantage and look at GPU-Z all the way down at the bottom, and you'll see the PhysX box un-checked. As long as that box is checked, you'll only be kidding yourself with your scores.
Look at my screenshot posts and you'll see what I mean.
I think PhysX is actually off in the second SS, his GPU score is very similar to what mine was ;) A GPU-Z in a screenshot would clear any doubts up though :D
anyone ???
OC plzzz
Hey guys I just got my MSI GTX 460 1GB Cyclone Edition(long name) and was wondering how to test the overclocked settings stability? I know you use MSI Kombustor but what settings(res? AA?) and for how long?
current clocks
Voltage: I assume it's the default, since it doesn't say and won't allow me to change it
Core Clock: 865Mhz
Shader Clock: 1730Mhz ( glued to core clock, I can change it separately)
memory Clock: 2201Mhz
Fan Speed: 72%( pretty quiet for me, compared to my 4870)
it idles at 37c but raises to about 60-65 during CSS and SC2.

CPU: Intel Core i7-860 @ 3.5GHz
CPU-Cooling: Corsair H-50
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD6

Under full load via F@H. My top card is dying. Very close to breaking 100C w/ the top card. The cooling on the Zotac 1GB cards is rather poor. I need to buy waterblocks for these bad boys asap. My Gigabyte GTX460 768MB card will do the same clock easily enough as well. I just don't have room for the card until my motherboard gets back from RMA.

This is my Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB under stock Voltage of 975mV,
the memory will go a little higher but the core clock won't, even if i go up to 1.081V. I've already reapplied the thermal paste on the card.
I don't know why but even in reviews Zotac 1gb card was the hotest. The EE heatsink used by Evga and Zotac is worst than reference. And you have a problem with fans , you must flash a new bios to unlock them to 100%.Quote:

Two Gigabyte cards should have been a little better.

Passes Heaven without a hitch(920mhz was a no go). Memory? I don't know yet, the "The nvidia driver bla bla.." popup is discouraging, I'd rather have artifacts and flickering. I might give it another go later.

A lot of 460s don't seem to run 900MHz stable on stock voltage. Run Vantage and if you see coloured sparkly stars, its not stable.
Gaul, you're still running Vantage w/PhysX enabled. I'd like to see what your actual validated score would be. Would you mind posting a run with PhysX disabled?
I just got some practice delidding ala pentium 4 socket 478 and it lives! I'll try on gtx 460 once it gets here on tuesday.
 pictures and details when you do :D
I'll post a worklog in the computer case section. Beast sff!
i ran a modded bios gtx460 a few weeks back ln2 cooling on this run.

not bad without even an iron to the card, its just the card cold and softmods, anyone should get around here if you have those 3.
fun modding card.
i have been waiting for a pair of pny xlr8 cards, but they dont have them out yet.
dam stormad that ss is pretty big
Hey Cowie is this a little better?
ic, anyway........ this is not a race and i'm not looking for P-score, i look for GPU score :p:
BTW here is u'r request , no physX :

I haven't had time to find the max stable O/C quite yet. Don't mind what Afterburner says, I thought I hit PrtScn but apparently I didn't. I hit reset on Afterburner but here are the clocks:
1.05v
855 core
1028 memory
EVGA 1gb superclocked EE
http://i33.tinypic.com/2hpkbhz.png
I was surprised at all the reviews saying this card runs hot, because mine doesn't :D.
It normally idles ~32C-35C when I'm not benching.
Does anyone know why I can go up to 1.212v in Afterburner? I thought the cap on these cards were 1.087v without modding the bios?
Can I have a copy of your eVGA vBIOS please? :D
ARGH! I got my palit gtx 460 sonic. The freaking cooler has no heatpipes! The reviews lied. I knew there would be no pwm cooler, but really? Making the core cooler a freaking pentium 3 alu heatsink? De lidding after I get my ram.
Thats why I don't go anywhere near Palit/Xpertvision products :D They send "engineering samples" to look good in front of reviewers then spit on their backs when their not looking and cut corners and cheap out generally wherever they can.
How do I find the bios? I updated my card with this:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=498804
Here is my current O/C with 1.087v. No artifacting whatsoever. Should I push this any farther? Is 85C too hot for these cards?

Wow! How did u hit 980 mhz? What mod/vcore?
How did u get 1.187V? Did you mod the bios?if so can you explain how?

:)
Its the same length as the ATI 5770, I managed to install them without having to remove my side fan. The first thing I noticed after installing them was 'damn, were my 5770s really that loud?'. These MSIs are super silent as are all my case fans, the only thing that makes a slight amount of noise now is my CPU cooler.
Damn those cables look like a rats nest :p:
Aye, not much I can do about it. I have too many fans and the top backplate hole on my case is too far away, and the middle one is now covered up by my EATX motherboard :(.
I just about managed to install the motherboard with the 24 pin cable going through the side hole first.
Hmmm, I installed everything from the CD first - Drivers and afterburner software, and the voltage tweak in afterburner was grayed out.
So I then uninstalled Afterburner and installed the latest version from MSI's website, 1.6.1 which says - 'Added NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 series and MSI N460GTX Cyclone series graphics cards support (including voltag control!)', but the voltage setting is still grayed out :(
Emailing MSI.
Just use nVidia Inspector, problem solved ;)
Oooooh, they put in a dummy lock for dummies, and it worked!
Heres my result, PPU was disabled in the vantage settings, I dont know how do disable it on GPU-Z though:
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3485/benchm.png
They start to artifact at 900 Mhz,I think I need more voltage :(
update my score, change to others systems and flash the bios from another thread :

I'll grab some screenshots tomorrow evening for ya. :)
Every GPU is different. Clock differences can be explained by manufacturing tweaks, some IHS being better applied than on other cards, people using more voltage, better cooling, etc.
What voltage was used for 970 core? I have 950 core stable @ 1.125v with no artifacts, but I'm having trouble going any further.
How can I use more than 1.087v without bios tweaking?
You can't. If you ask Nvspec he will probably give you a modded bios.
My Asus 460 i GHz can do 912 but that is all untill i do bios mod for votage
At 900 now . I think i might stay with this setting
Update had to go to 1087 on voltage
Hey guys well i just shoved 1 card in for now, im on air cooling with them. I just did a minor OC on the card, im at 875 mhz Voltage is 1.08 , i tried 900mhz but i get artifacts and i cant overvolt past 1.087. Hmmm anyways is this a decent score for minor OC on air with 1 card?
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/127/score1.jpg
Mmmm... your all making it so tempting for me to take a knife to my GPU and remove that IHS..
LOL Ket i never removed the IHS or anything, just threw the single card in and called it a day :) , hey i tried that inspector and MSI but it wont let me over volt more then 1.087.. Do i gotta flash the BIOS?
LowriDer - Hey thanks man, ya i gotta wait for my stupid SLI bridge to come in since i accidently threw out the one that came with the MB lol..Placed the order with evga yesterday, ill have the bridge either sat or monday then ill post up SLI scores for sure!
Yep you have to flash a modded BIOS to get more than 1.087v.
