The 1055T makes it a little more interesting.

I’m about done testing the 1055 under the chilled water. I kinda want to run a few tests using dice to see if the colder temp will give a little more HTT clock at the x14 multi? If I don’t kill the 1055 I’m going to build a gaming rig around it.
I already have a new Cooler Master HAF932 case sitting here waiting. I’m working on a good water cooling system for the case in the mean time until I can get a good cool dry day to test the 1055 under dice.

I probably should do a complete fresh OS install and reflash the bios before the dice tests as they both are trashed.

At the x10 multi the HTT maxed out about the same for both the 1055 and 1090’s.:)

Anyway here are a few of the 1055T tests I’ve ran so far. I ran some at the x14 multi with the HTT between 328-335 but I’ll post those up later.:yepp:

I tried the x14 multi on these tests but the cooling fluid was getting warm by the time I got around to running them.

I ran into a couple of problems with 3DMark 03 and 06. 03 wouldn’t start when running high HTT for some reason maybe a fresh OS and driver install will fix it? 06 had problems with the cat drivers stopping and when I did get it to run adding the two 5870’s only yielded another 600 point +/- over the single 5970. Vantage unlike 3DMark06 works well with the cat drivers and I can over clock the GFX cards without a problem.

I’m not sure where you’re seeing 3.73GHz so please indicate its location in the SS. :shrug: One thing I did notice is that wPrime shows the 1055T as an engineering sample but in fact it’s a $199 retail chip.

Here is a wPrime-1024 @404HTT I didn’t get to try it @407HTT so I don’t know if it would finish wPrime 1024 at the higher HTT clocks?

Thanks Dave, it’s probably the cold helping the HTT clocks but I’ll know when I test it under ambient water inside the case after I build the gaming rig. I think I’ll flash the 905 bios today then test HTT with it. I think while I’m at it I’ll try my old Corsair CL9’s too to see if they kill the HTT clocks?:)

I flashed the 905 bios today and tested the HTT clocks compared to the 801 bios. With the 801 bios when testing the 1055T it would boot @ 373HTT and would run wPrime-32 @ 10x407 in windows but the best I could get out of the 905 bios was boot @373HTT then run wprime-32 @10x405HTT in Windows. @406HTT the system would crash at the desktop or while loading any program or bench. There may be a setting in which bios 905 and 801 are equal for HTT over clocking but I didn’t find it during my limited testing, although your results may vary.

The 905 bios may be better than the 801 in many ways but for me testing HTT clocks the 801 seems a little better. In all likelihood I’ll flash back to 801 before my dice runs.

I did test two other sets of ram to see if the set I have been using is helping me over clock the HTT or if any of my sets would do. I don’t claim to be any kind of an expert with ram or much of anything else really but I did spend about an hour with each set trying different settings (timings). Some of the members here may have the skills to get my other two sets of memory to work when over clocking the HTT but I didn’t have much luck with my other two sets. For me the Corsair GT 2000 CL8 set gets it done they worked well on my CH3 also.

In the SS below the set on the upper left is the Corsair i7 1600 CL9 3x2GB set (max boot was 260HTT failed 270HTT boot. The set on the upper right is Gskill i7 1600 CL6-7-6 3x2GB max boot was 320HTT failed 330HTT boot. The bottom set is the set I have been using for most of my testing on AMD systems Corsair GT 2000 CL8 2x2GB max boot 373HTT failed 375 boot.

I really haven't tried clocking the Gskills in the CH4F when using mostly the multi. They worked ok in the CHIII earlier though but nothing like the Corsair GTs.

I pulled the chiller off the 1055T this afternoon and installed air cooling on the processor. The chiller was helping the chip with the HTT some as 390 is about the best HTT @ the x10 multi I could get it ti complete wPrime-32. I tried 396 and 395 a couple of times but the system locked about a third of the way through the run.

The vcore needed varies by the chip (I've tested three, two 1090T's and one 1055T). One 1090 did it on default vcore LLC enabled, one needed 1.4V+ and this 1055 needed 1.45-1.47v to do 400. It may do400 on less vcore if I back some of the setting down a bit (mem, NB)?:shrug: That was in chilled water. It needed more vcore @407HTT.

I still have the system under air cooling so the HTT max is 396 and more voltage above 1.47v doesn’t help with getting a higher HTT. I ran the Winrar bench test with the 1055T @ the above HTT and then tried other setting using a higher multi with lower HTT for comparison. The problem with that being that the processor plus NB multis on the 1055T are both very limited so trying to find a combination where the CPU, memory, NB and link speeds are similar to the 396HTT test is difficult at best.

I finally just pulled the 1055 then installed the 1090T which makes it easier to come up with a settings combination for a comparison (high HTT low multi to high multi low HTT).:)

Those are the ones Dave:) I use them in every benching rig that only needs dual channel. I'm thinking about picking up another set for the gaming rig I'm building around the 1055T? There may be another brand that is as good in the AMD stuff as these GTs? Maybe at this price or even at a better price I don't really know? What I do know is these GT's work well in the AMD systems I have.:up: I'm not as good as some of the people here when it comes to ram clocking so the GT's help a bunch. You already have some very good hardware and if you can swing it, the GT's should help with the 1055T.:D

What Ram voltages were you running? Any clue whats safe and stays within warranty?

When I get my other set I should be able to tell after a few tests if they are Hypers.

Sorry Dave I didn't check what the Corsair warranty states for max voltage. :shrug:

I don't push as much juice through them as some here do but I run at least 1.65v most of the time. The most voltage that I have used is some where around 1.72v +/- but for most of the tests I set them 1.67-1.70v. If I plan to run a bunch of different tests one after the other using somewhat tight timings I set them @1.70v and forget about it.:yepp: I don't know how well they would handle that voltage 24/7 as I don't run anything 24/7 overclocked/overvolted.

I finally got the gaming rig together for testing but I figure I have a long way to go before I find the final setup. As you’ll notice right away I’m a little more into fuction than fashion. :rolleyes:

The Case is a Cooler Master 932 HAF.

The water cooling system consists of one swiftech pump and a Chevy van heater core for the radiator using the existing cooler master top fan with two 120MM pusher fans mounted to the bottom of the radiator. I mounted an AMD CPU heat sink fan over the NB heat sink to improve it’s cooling.:)

This is about all it will do FLanK3r with this combination of settings anyway. This is about the fifth or sixth different LinX run without any cool down period so the entire system is completely warmed up. I didn’t change any settings except 20 minutes in the time window.

This is a screen capture of the test running just before it completed. I ran Asus probe and core temp for comparison. The max temp I saw in probe was 52C and the lowest was 44C beyond 10 minutes of the testing.

Thanks Dave, I think there is more left in wPrime both 32M and for sure 1024M.
LLC was enabled on the CPU/NB with voltage set to auto so I'm not sure where it was during the testing but 1.51-1.52v would be my guess.

The tRAS@24 has been a good starting point. Then after I find some of the other limits (core, IMC and thermal) for the bench test beng used then I see if I can tighten the ram timings. I just didn't get back to the ram in those tests before I ran out of time. Some times I start the testing with the ram @8-8-8-24 or 7-7-7-24, one less problem.

Yeah, the Corsair GT CL8 2000 kit does it's job very well. Problem is though MicroCenter raised the price back up to $230 before I got over there to get another set.:(

i think, or at my PC, CoreTemp show about -10C diferently than reality. Today i tested this :-) Set in windows +2busspeed so Coretemp reading BIOS setings (at 64-bit win7). To time its my record with 1.308V :-), of course, as always, with air cooler
Real temps are, thinking, 45 C in burn, not 35. Im still tweaking stability more than 4300 MHz, but im not lucky, 4300 its OK, but 4310MHz not! PC dont crash, not to warm, only error at same core :-/

TOP was 4300MHz and Temps in Coretemp 46C (or about 56C in real), voltage was 1.478V. More from first testing days u can to find here

The wierd thing was it ran IBT and all other benches I tested, but failed
on the 3rd pass of CB 11.5. I turned the HTref down to 303 and all seems well.... Cinebench is definetly a tough test. :p:

The system must be a little edgy at those settings at least for CB 11.5. CB can be tough on the system after repeated tests end to end.

Thanks FLanK3r, yeah air cooling and wPrime 1024M aren't always the best of friends.

I needed the Corsair GT’s for some other testing so I swapped the ram out of the gaming rig which meant I needed to swap the 1055 out also for the 1090 (the old ram limits the HTT clocks).

Anyway while the 1055 was out I installed it in the old CH3F (790FX) then tested a little 2D under dice today. I did have some problems, I expect mostly from the very old beat-up Windows XP install I used. I tried testing the 1055 in the CH4F two weeks ago but that test was a disaster although the CH4F did clock the 1055 higher than the CH3F. I spent about four hours trying many bios setting combinations that the system would use without crashing and finally found a couple that were ok at best.

Funny thing is when I tested using chilled water the CH3F proved it could boot and load Windows at a much higher HTT (406x11) than the CH4F (374x10)?

I still have quite a few chips but I have given many of them away (the ones that are still alive that is:D). Some times just the chip sometimes chip and MB as an upgrade for a family member, friend or neighbor.
I build a system using some old hardware every once in a while to remind me of just how much better the newer stuff really is.:)

I tested the 1055T in the MSI 790FX-GD70 today and the MSI didn’t seem to mind the high HTT. It would boot @381HTT then I could use the OC dial to increase the HTT to 403 in Windows.

I also tried the step overclock feature in the bios . I use step 1 in which it boots @90% of the HTT 381 in this case then the system clocks up to 100% after Windows is loaded (401HTT). That feature works pretty good.:up:

How are temps on the PWM section, did ya do the finger test?

I'm assuming thats your cold water settup.

Thanks Dave, using air for those tests. I don't know what the PWM temps were? I'm not really pushing it yet maybe I will today?:D

All my Thubans are 125w and if I remember correctly the 1055T defaults to 1.36v. I'll check it the next time I bench it, if I remember.

how about 1090T default vcore? Think, my is 1.28V in default....

My 1090T (week 21) is 1.283v default in bios.

I understand from reading your post that you were asking about Vantage tests @4GHz on a Thuban using a 5970 at default clocks with CAT 10.9? My 5970 won’t do 26K Vantage GPU scores @ default clocks. It doesn’t take a lot of over clocking on the GFX card to top 26K though.:)

For all I know maybe some of these other guys have a combination that will top 26K GFX score in Vantage?:shrug:

My 1055t is a 125W TDP, but he start @default with 1,288V

I'm not sure I completely understand. Is this your Vantage test result or someone else’s? Is it important that the 5970 was at the default clocks of 725/1000MHz during the test for the result to be called legitimate? :shrug:

It's someone's else.
