GOOC 2010 EU Finals in Mallorca

Hi guys,

Just thought that it was time to have a dedicated topic for that event so we can share pics etc. as usual :)

Fist, some infos !

GOOC EU Finals 2010 will be in Palma de Mallorca at the Meliã Palas Atenea Hotel; place chosen by Gigabyte for the European finals of the GOOC 2010. For those EU finals as for the whole GOOC this year, one person from each EU country will be joining the competition on Mallorca.

Dino , Do you guys @ GBT find any solution for crappy CPUs in final ? at least CPUs differences should be very little for final . It's 2D and no GOOD CPU definitely leads NO chance FTW .

hicookie pretested these CPUs as well and they were all within about 100-150Mhz he said!

Finals actually have two days >> first day is prep day and second day is competition day (at least thats what it was like last year :up:)

Dinos22 & Trouffman; Please, I hope you guys just didnt think about what you said, or havent really thought the opinion through..... Any idea of the consequences if it becomes more "professional", if it becomes more of a job, not hobby/sport???

The prizes should NOT go up... The only thing that'll be acheived by that is;
1) No sharring / helping eachother
2) More OPB (cheaters)
3) Slowly but definantly killing the sport, as it will set entry barriers, barriers that most cant afford; Some are already pushing these to be set, screening 10-50 CPU's just to make qualifier... Basicly; This will mean that others just wont even bother participate, exactly like it happend in Gigabyte's SOC contest, prizes were too high, results went NUTS, but more interestingly, VERY few submissions, because no one really bothered....

If you do not agree with this, very well..... But I definantly DO NOT believe prizes should be any higher... :)
Besides; Dinos22 atleast has known for years that there is other rewards then prize at the given competition of which you do well.... In fact, he was the one to bring it to the light.... (Hence; UD9 testing wasnt exactly something that has never happend before? Point being; IF you are good, you will likely become a bit "professional" anyway... There are bonuses)

thanks a lot for the event, i really liked it.

my systems worked good until the end of round 1... after reboot on round 2 the motherboard fail and i could not run spi and decent wprime :( because only boot at default , so i was stunk with round 1 points... and i could not replace the board because 13:30 was expired ...
i finished 7 of 17 with only 2 benchmarks lol great!

Thanks guys. As always, taking the win is somewhat about luck. MaxxMem had some guys puzzled and Slamms wasn't able to submit a Wprime score.

It was nice meeting the EU overclockers. Good to see new faces joining the live competition scene! Congrats to Perica (very well prepared!), Erdemolkun, Matose and Slamms for top-5 spots. Too bad for Elmor ... but maybe he just let this one slip so he can be fully focussed on the MOA WW Final :D

Congrats to Massman for great victory, he came as a journalist and went home as overclocking king ;) .....To bad for Elmor he has a lot to show ( but bad cpu won't let him.....) ... Hipro-s t-shirt ventilation system didn't work this time ( too bad his CPU was bad,he is overclocking legend :) )...Predator also has bad luck with motherboard...Also congrats to Matose ,Slamms and Erdemolkun you all did a great job....I enjoyed time spent with all of you ...Hope to see you all soon ...

I have to agree with you. Not only Intel is using the crap CPUs (maybe they want to get rid of all the B1 ES samples), but Kingston provided PSC-based memory for the competition as well because, apparently, it's their 'fastest kit on the market'. Running 2000 CL7-9-7 is the result then, while Hyper-based kits would do 2200CL7-7-7 with a bit of luck ... strange companies.

Congrats to Massman and all the other qualifiers. It was good to meet new friends and to catch up with old ones.

I and few other guys had Q4EG batch 3003A854 but I heard there was some 3003A720 aswell.

Thank you Gigabyte for this wonderful competition. This Event was very difficult for me because this is my first Event in Europe. I had a very good processor - no coldbug, no coldboot. I was able to make the maximum validation - 6395 MHz. But the processor too quickly deteriorated, and I could not repeat the results made during the training. I did 13.98 seconds in PiFast at 6100 MHz. But already during the first round of the processor was able to pass the maximum PiFast at 6033 MHz. By the end of the second round of the processor degenerated completely and I could not get the result in wPrime.

I want to congratulate the winners. See you in Taiwan.

A bit focused on the Portuguese overclocker but no only! :up:

It was an awesome event taking the beach, women and etc into account.
I just wish for some proper CPUs next time. The one I received had tons of goo around on it, and I am not talking vaseline ... Lost a memory channel and quickly after that the CPU only had 2 cores working although all were selected in BIOS. One of the strangest things I have experienced when OCing.

Hell, if PJ was able to keep his CPU alive for those couple of hours, he is definetaly worthy of the first place :D
