If this is true, it's certainly good news, even for ATI fans, because it means they're gearing up for more comp from the red team.

Personally, I'm a little let down from both sides. ATI were quick off the mark but I think they could of done a better job, and NV just had nothing for a long time. Field went stale.
KitGuru is awesome.

Regardless of the source, take what you read with a pinch of salt. Some of it is just journalist spatter, some just fanboyism, and the rest tends to just be PR exercises. The only true time to get excited about something is when theres hard numbers.
A GTX485 is inevitable, given that parts of the Fermi core are disabled on all current products except Tesla/Quadro parts (and those are downclocked to compensate). I just think it's too soon for one yet, given they still haven't got the heat and power issues nailed.
ZOMG!!! There will be refreshes??? Unreal, lol. Who could have thunk it?

My :2cents:: listen to Ket, lol.
Its a freaking joke. And the picture
http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/up...gger-Holes.jpg
Its from evga's GeForce GTX 470 SuperClocked+ w/ High Flow Bracket and Backplate ....
Kitguru is a freaking joke, with made up news to steal web traffic.
Created like 3-4 months ago from someone trying to make some quick bucks from this domain.
And from so called "article":Are those guys making those news, stupid or what?Quote:
KitGuru has heard that nVidia’s been through the first iteration of the GTX480 with a fine tooth comb, to create a GTX485 product that can run at least 20MHz more on the core clock, with improved cooling and performance. It’s also worked through some neat driver improvements that will also help. Nice.
Pathetic hoax site.
Yep I noticed as soon as I saw the fins inside. WAY smaller cooler.
they never said that picture was the 485, they simply made a joke using the picture.

Will GTX 485 offer bigger holes for your enjoyment?
Yep, they bit too soon, can't see a reason why people buy one other than benching and bigger e-penis, still on GTX285 and does the job just fine.
Or if your 280 dies you might as well just get a 480...
The 470 is actually a pretty good card in performance to price. If they can manage the 28nm revision, a GPU in that price range on that die size would be sweet. I'm a bit skeptical Nvidia can pull off 28nm though being as Intel, the best manufacturer at die shrinking, is still only working on 32nm. As for the GTX285, meh, not enough performance at high res on some games IMO and I happen to think DX11 support DOES matter. There's not many DX11 games yet, but now that both camps have DX11 GPUs, it will be very prevalent in AAA titles to come.
cool another kitguru thread
They're getting far more publicity than they ever should.
Possibly some real info!?

so... anyone thing we might be able to flash from the 480 shaders to the 512 soon, or at least when they release a 512 version ?
I had already assumed that there would be a 512 core card and that's why i have not pulled the trigger on 480 core cards
If the memory bus is 384-bit same as GTX480, its non-significant. Because the GTX480's bottleneck is memory clock, not core clock. If the GTX485's memory bus is 448-bit or 512-bit, its worth.
Unless you plan on an extreme LCS, I wouldn't even consider that, esp if you have a brand of card that doesn't use a tier one binned chip.
The 480s are much too hot to handle 512 without it even if it's possible to do that. The 512 core cards are going to be MUCH better suited to 28nm.
I don't think so. Heat issue with Fermi is exaggerated. I never saw mine go over 90 while gaming/folding with fan speed controled by AB profile.
BTW I'm used to heat, can't have top performace products without heat. Now, on water cooling (non-extreme, res - pump - EK - EK-vga - rad - back to res) I never saw it go over 50.
I would try 512 cores BIOS if I could find.
So, what are the chances of Fermi revisions coming out by the end of the year? 5%? 20%? Or is the joint in my hand just too good to be true?
i bealeve that they would be fine @512 . my 480 has been folding for like 8 hours now running at 100% and the temp is 79 and the pcb temp is only 60 not to mention i have it OC'ed a good bit for stock cooling. i think it would be ok, i am just wondering if or when some one will come out with a bios that will unlock it : )
running well at 480 has nothing to do with running at 512
I don't want to argue, but comparing 470 to 480 there is not much difference in heat output, 5 degrees max, right?
OK, not linear when going 480 to 512? Then multiply that difference with 2-3. Maybe 5 times? I'm ready for that. :D
BTW, I'm not saying my additional 32 cores will be operational, but IMO it's worth a try.

GF104 on the 12th...
"A "little" quicker, A "little" cooler, A "little" easier to make". Well with the larger exhaust ports that will account for the little cooler claim, a little quicker is the increase of 40MHz and the quieter is easily done by a fan that has less restriction because of the larger exhaust ports! I know any GTX 480 can overclock 40MHz without even touching the Vcore voltage, what a load of crap!

it pretty obvious a refresh is coming, now when is the question. (BTW it is still June)
From the various users and techs I have chatted with regarding the 480, it's not necessarily a safe bet folding on one with a stock cooler. On a good WC setup yes, but 24/7 folding on a 480 with stock cooler can lead to increasingly hotter temps. Your risk if you want to, just make sure you have one with a lifetime warranty from a reliable manufacturer that honors it without a fuss.
Interesting that they talked about the photo this way:
"It is unknown when and where the photo was made."
When the photo was "MADE"? Not taken, "made". Hmmm, some clever use of Photoshop maybe, esp since Fudzilla is referenced in the article.
Buying 480 is - let’s say diplomatically - eccentric. No matter will or not there be 485. ATI 5 series are just much better product.
i do not understand how an ATI 5 series card would be so much better. sence my board only supports SLI could you let me know what single ATI card is going to be faster for my board than 2 x 480's or 3 x 480's i would surly get that card
the 5800 series can't even handle basic DX11 features, the thing they tried to advertise so hard.
Huh... ?
you posted before i hit enter i was about to ask for someone to explain to me how to get my board to do crossfire
And if you want to fold?
I think the real comparisons will be the revised 28nm Fermis vs ATI's next offerings. Neither camp has had DX11 hardware out long enough to perfect it yet, so a lot of this fanboyism talk back and forth is neither here nor there really.
Technically you could say "Did everyone bite too soon on (any card ever produced)?" because there are always refreshes and new models in the wings.
I don't have any faith in "Kit Guru" from what I've seen so far, agree with the assessment they post fake news to steal web traffic. Probably some knucklehead's scam to earn money for weed and pizzas.
Thread seems like flamebait.
Side fans make a BIG difference with the 480s. I had mine in a Cosmos 1010 with a single 120mm side fan, and 2 X 120mm top and front intake, ran Metro 2033 at 92-93C . (480 SLi)
Now I'm using a HAF932 with 230mm on the side and it runs Metro at 84-86C (with some spikes to 87C) at higher res. Needless to say, the $139 shipped for the HAF I consider money well spent.
If anything I bit too late coming from an 8800GTX, I skipped the G80 to G92 refresh 8800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GX2, GTX 280, GTX 285 and GTX 295. If you play "The Waiting Game" there will always be something better coming out at least a year after your purchase! Guess what, Fermi will be replaced by Fermi 2 and so on and so on and this cycle will NEVER end! At some point you have to jump in and enjoy what you have and until you feel like your hardware is no longer adequate for it's intended purpose it's time to upgrade.
I've never heard of "Kit Guru" until the interview was given, his forum did come across as fake and attention seaking, his name should be "Kid Guru".

all well am happy with my 480Gtx till next year! Nice find mate!
I don't think NVIDIA would be able to present a new high end card soon too as well, look at Fermi, 6 months after ATI released their 58xx series and that is quite late.
Why is it when everyone says that they totally disregard the fact that it was a bigger leap in GPU architecture than anyone has ever undertaken?
You're also disregarding the fact that a new high end card could very well use the existing architecture but with a die shrink.
Where the problem entered in for the most part as I understand it, regarding the 6 mo delay, was in trying to get all 512 cores working on the existing die size.
Nether the GF104 or a GF100 at 28nm would present such problems.
