Nice runs. Your temps skyrocket with that voltage after 2 hours though.

actually i think they have leveled out. they only change with ambients now, they have been the same for at least the last hour. i do happen to have some 600ish CFM on some very high FPI rads though :p: updated original post w/ 3 hour prime blend 4250mhz :) i think thats good for now..

not a bad 1st day :D probably done for the night, might go for a 6 core valid but prolly wait till i do more testing tomorrow

thanks, ive been saving up a bit & sold off an old rig w/ my 3.8ghz AIR 9850be & another one w/ my 4.4ghz AIR 940be to fund this stuff :D the ram is OK, nothing special, but hard to beat for the price. 1700c6 stable (not 32m :rolleyes:) is no problem but i still have lots of testing to do with it. i might try another kit while they are still cheap, i need another anyways. as far as SSD, if you saw the rig boot up you would have clicked order already :p: i love it - from "starting windows" to desktop in like 15 seconds :up: i honestly think this asus bios takes longer than loading windows lol

i have just been torn on GPUs... i dont need anything huge but obviously want the best :rofl: but im trying to be reasonable here, so i think i decided w/ the way prices are now (higher than launch :mad:), & performance difference between 5850 & 5870 after OC's (not much), i will just pick up a 5850 now & probably xfire it down the road (or maybe pick up ATI refresher card, 6000 series?). it will be plenty for the 1 game i sometimes play (UT3) im just most excited about getting this space heater out of my case :p: and also getting some more modding done to it. probably wait till i get my gpu & then finish it up. i should be able to enter into the clean car comp with you when its done :) only one problem though, white, red, or black h2o tubing?????? :shrug:

I've seen windows XP loading at 6+G on an E8600 and Rampage Extreme with a SSD and windows loading time was stunning, if i had to estimate i would say less than 10 seconds, maybe about 7-8secs.

Regarding the tubing, i've got black myself now but i really like the black/red theme you see used a lot lately. I think i'm gonna switch over to Primochill red 3/8 tubing. Not much of a fan of white tubing personally.

Red tubing matches the red of the CIVF and the red of the Dominators, so it has to look great imo.

these cores dont seem too strong for valids but pretty strong for stability. ill have to find out which ones are holding me back, maybe can squeeze a bit more out of it

Remember the voltage...

Anything over 1.55v for 24/7 on water may degrade the chip according to chew*. 1.52v on air. For valid's it wouldn't be smart to go over 1.6v. Mad222 said he almost killed his chip at 1.64v.

someones gotta do it, and gOtVoltage doesnt have x6 yet :p:

Not sure, but it may be a problem with the 1066 divider on the C4F....
Hopefully the 0901 bios will help, 'cause I'm not going to be able to afford a 1090T anytime soon... :p:

You're not afraid to give it some volts, that's for sure. :) Mine won't make it into windows over ~1.53V even though it does post. 1.53V with LLC enabled is about 1.55-1.56V load on this board. Dunno why the chip ain't taking it?

Do you have a pic of your watercooling setup? 600CFM is quite a bit, especially on high finnage rads, that has got to be noisy. :D Do you know your watertemps idle /load?

zeus, ive pumped over 1.6v into all my chips since the 9850be :D the only one that didnt like the volts was my 955c2.. 9850, 940, 965c3, and now 1090t all scaled up to at least 1.6v (maybe a little more :p:) not sure why your chip doesnt like the volts :shrug: i think we might end up w/ a little better clocks as the bios gets smoothed out, clocks & volts seem to be all over the place so far :rolleyes:

here is an old pic of my loop (now it has hardware from OP & rads have few diff fans - ill post new pics in next week or 2 when i finish my case :D)

2x120 rad is BIX II with 2x ultrakaze 3k in push, 2x yate medium in pull
1x120 rad is BIP with 115cfm 120x25 delta in push, 120x20 yate medium in pull
also the 140mm tricool up top pushes some good cfm when its on high which lowers fets temps pretty nicely

overall its pretty good for keeping a high heatload in check ;) im not sure about idle/load temps yet, depends on the vcore i guess. i do know 1.6v on my x4 was 10c less on CPU load temps than my x6 at 1.6v :eek:

its a little loud when they are all up :D but for everyday use (cpu around 1.48-1.5v) i just keep all fans off except the 2 yate med's in pull on the 2x120 rad. i keep them at 7-8v which is nearly silent :) only when im playin a game or something ill turn those 2 yates on 12v & the rest of fans on 7-8v so its not too bad, no worse than my 4870x2 @ 40-45% fan speed.

just got another piece to the puzzle :D im going to try to get another for crossfire but just dont have the money for one right now.. in the meantime im going to see how high i can crank it & how it compares to my 4870x2 @ same cpu clocks. this 5850 has modded bios w/ 900mhz core, 1250mhz mem @ 1.12v on the core. for the next hour or 2 it will have 1.35v on the core :p:

Very nice man. A second 5850 will get you 27K or close to that. The only test in 06 that benefit from crossfire is Canyon flight. Nice to see a single GPU card almost matching a dual GPU card but i actually already knew that from comparing my 2x 5870 scores to theoldtimers 2x 4870x2's.

Looking forward to pics of your build, gonna rebuild mine soon as well. Red tubing! :D

updated OP with some short 30 min. prime runs to get a better idea on how much vcore i need @ diff mhz.... im not saying these are 100% stable but it gives a good idea of how much vcore certain mhz need at load & can prolly be fine tuned very close to this to get it 100% stable

Crazy amounts of heat that thing puts out. ~55c ! Nice clocks too... :)

thanks beep :) these things do put out crazy heat for sure. i think with x4 a 2x120 rad is enough but with x6 3x120 helps even more. i also turned my rear fans on 1x120 rad around so they are bringing in fresh air from outside the case instead of exhausting warmer case air out the back, and to help with the added intake fans, i added another 140mm hole on roof for another exhaust ;)

sorry for double post but added a few new rig pics to OP.. still got a few small things that need to be done but had a chance to rebuild my loop finally & do a few other small things to my case the last few days so its shaping up :)

Hey CrazyD, so you noticed alot higher heatload too? Glad it's not just me... ;)

The good thing is my X6 OC's better with lower V's, but it still creeps up over time under stress. I've got a Thermochill 120 and a Swiftech 120.3 in my loop.
I think I'm going to pick up a Swiftech tripple (Stacker) this weekend and see if it helps... I'll let ya know! :up:

I'm thinking I may need to lap my IHS, cause temps hit ~54c after 30 minutes Prime Blend even though voltage is only around 1.5 on the core.

Yep, I'm able to do ~720 on 5-5-5 on my Hypers. 5-6-5 tops around 780.

yes definately take your time. make sure all your barbs are tight, they can come a little loose when trying to get the tubing on. what i find helps for putting the tubing on is once you get it just over the tip of the barb kind of hold the tubing an inch or 2 in front of the barb when your trying to push it on so the tubing between your fingers & where its touching the barb will kind of expand when you push on it, and you can kind of move it back and forth a little bit to help it on. like think if you push on 2 opposite sides of a balloon, the diameter between your hands expands. well same concept for the tubing but the barb is acting as your other hand,,,, and the tubing isnt quite as soft as a balloon xD hope that made sense, it is a little hard to get the tubing on, but i think its worth the ease of mind knowing w/ clamps it shouldnt go anywhere :)

Yes actually mem is at 775mhz 6-6-5-16-20 1.62v now, the fan is already a High rpm silverstone, but i keep it in 1800rpm for silence. I can bench at 4275mhz w/ it and 1.52v w/out problem.

I can't get 1766 6-6-6-18 stable on my M4A89TD or my 890GPA-UD3H without 1.75v

I'm on the release BIOS for the M4A89TD Pro/USB3 with buggy HT flux but it's better with the CPU at 4014 stable at 1.536.

Your looking at 1800 6-6-6-18 32M stable with 1.75v ;)

thanks titan :) ive been using the ssd for over a month now. it is great, definitely one of the best upgrades for 24/7 rig like we have because you can actually notice a difference, unlike dropping $200 to go from 1700c7 to 1700c6 or something lol. i would keep an eye out around the oc forums for a used one, sometimes you can even find like a new one unused for great deal. i dont really play much games except for UT3 which doesnt really notice much of a difference going from x4-x6. i need another 5850 for 1900x1200 full AA & AF, too many crazy low dips when a lot of action going on :( oh and i promise i will try to run vantage for you soon :p: figure cpu speed somewhere between cinebench (4370) and 3dm06 (4407) w/ 5850 over 1020mhz core (3dm06 did 1020mhz, vantage can go higher ;))

I have to say that the Intel X25-V I recieved is supurb for 24/7. These can be had for $110...
I get boot times around 18 seconds (I type in a password)...(I had about 30 in shortstroked RAID 0)

40GB is actually plenty for the OS and a few programs/games. A clean install will take up 9.5-10GB.

As for the sucky write performance even installing programs is not sluggish and writing is what my "data" disks are for...1.2TB of RAID 0 storage @ 210 MB/s.

ssd is really awesome.. been using Crucial M225 over one year. better upgrade than going from X2 Athlon to Phenom II :D .. nah but almost

3 things I need or want to do is SSD better screen for 1080P (im at 1680x1050) and putting this 5970 under water.

Ill check out the FS section now and then for an SSD. i bet its night and day, just looking at the performance numbers make me think it has to be at least 2-3 times faster than my current HD

I have a 125gig partition I use for my os/5-6 games and benching proggies.....it takes up 70 gigs and thats when its clean, If I neglect it for 2-3 weeks it can go into the 90-100gig range. I definitly need something like 100gigs.......still never had a TB if storage yet:p:

I'm only using a 250gbs hard drive (232gbs really) though this older chip( phenom x4 9850 BE) seems to make my hard drive just dead stop :wth: ???? my mouse still works on screen but I can't click on anything.

- AMD C’n’Q / C1E / TurboCore is enabled in BIOS.
- Load-Line Calibration has not been enabled in BIOS

If any of these is enabled you will encounter Vcore fluctuation...

DDRIII-2000+ support under AMD platform:

Up to 4x DDRIII-2000+ modules can be supported under the AMD models with the 0905 BIOS :
- The use of Thuban processors. (well you still need a good IMC Thuban CPU to achieve this)
- The use of the latest BIOS dating from at least the 22/06/2010 (this counts for M4A89 series and Crosshair IV Formula)

thats very good cpu. im impressed. for me to make 4ghz stable 955c3 takes 1,44v but that is 6 cores.. what volt for your cpu-nb?

1.27v in bios, but can probably come down a little because its stable over 2800mhz w/ that cpu-nb volts. one day, after i learn more about the cores i will shift to learning minimum volts for all my cpu-nb speeds :)

With your ram I suggest running a 3000 CPU_NB speed...does the NB scale any over 1.3v?

my nb wont do it for 24/7 beep. it can barely bench over 3000. probably somewhere around 2900mhz w/ reasonable volts. it scales over 1.3v but very poorly, ill be testing it more soon.

ill check it out flank3r. i have 30min. run at 4300mhz 1.57vcore load, and 30 min. run at 4280mhz 1.55vcore load but i think this one vcore could come down a little bit. ill try to find max mhz for 1 hour prime with 1.55vcore load today :)

here we go dave, went at it again with higher nb. i tried the same settings as before, 4320mhz 1.56v & this time nb up 1 multi at 2960mhz. started with 1.33v on cpu-nb and windows froze as soon as prime started. tried 1.37v on cpu-nb and windows froze about 2 min. in. tried 1.39v and about 6 min. in, windows said prime encountered error, needs to close. 1.425v on cpu-nb and got same error 8 min. in. i think i needed 1 more bump on vcore to get that high cpu & nb together so to keep w/ flank3r's 1.55v max, instead of bumping voltage i dropped ht by 1, and lowered vcore by 1 (in aod, .0125) this gave me 4300mhz, 1.55v load - 2950mhz nb, never restarted so still at 1.425v on cpu-nb lol. let it prime & sure enough no problem :p: so like i said im gonna leave nb testing for another day to find out minimum it needs. ill also try 4320mhz 2960nb again with 1 bump on vcore to see if i was right in thats why it was failing

spent a few hours playing w/ cinebench tonight :) got a pretty good improvement over my last run. tried to get a vantage run in for you titan w/ same settings as cinebench below, but cpu test crashed 2x in a row & i didnt feel like tweaking anymore after 2hrs of cinebench xD think i could pass if i back down on nb/imc just a tiny bit, i can get cpu way more stable with around 2980mhz nb rather than 3000mhz+ :shrug: 5850 passed 3d tests @ 1030mhz core 1275mem no problem, definately more left in it. ill tackle it someday :D

heres my cinebench run, tried to run it again cuz sometimes i get better score on 2nd run but errored out :p:

thanks flank3r :) i cant stop tweaking/playing with this thing! pretty soon im gonna do some more prime on the cores, find out vcore for clocks i havent check yet, 3.8, 3.9, 4.1, etccc. then after that will do same tests for nb, just test minimum volts for stability at 2600mhz, 2700, 2800, 2900, max... THEN after that i was wanting to try to test some of these cpu/nb clocks but with TURBO CORE enabled, but i think we need better bios for that. i think when turbo activates, the other cores which are not using turbo are supposed to downclock to low p-state but i think the way it is now they stay at normal :shrug: i want to test 4 core, 3 core, 2 core turbos by using same amount of threads in prime95

i found my "summer profile" 4 GHz with 1.328V :-)

thats a very nice combo of clocks/volts :) if turbo was working properly you could probably have that + 4.3 or 4.4ghz with turbo :D

What cooler? Looks nice, I can prime at 4.1Ghz / 1.48v on air, but my NB is sweet 2940Mhz stable at 1.32v (not as sweet as my 1055T but anyway is good.)

What a hell is that 120C temperature?

thx barr3l.. its water cooled, you can see the loop in my 1st post, sig tells hardware.

turbo can be used w/ cool & quiet. ideally, if they both worked as they were supposed to, flank3r could have clocks like this:

idle/no load = cool & quiet p-state (1ghz/1v range)..
6 cores full load = normal p-state (4ghz/1.33v)..
2,3,4 cores loaded = turbo p-state (4.3-4.4ghz/1.45v range), then when in turbo, whatever cores arent being used will be put in cool & quiet p-state

it shouldnt make a difference what cores are the good ones etc. since he can get 4.3ghz stable on 6 cores it should be fine w/ 3 or 4 cores, maybe even able to get 4.4ghz for turbo since its not all cores at once

some more blend today :D waiting on another half hour of 3.8ghz 1.284v :cool: i have min. volts for 3.8-4.3ghz now, might just skip to like 3.5, 3.0, 2.5ghz then start testing nb

1.18v would give me math error on worker 5 twice in a row, first was 9 min. & thought maybe memory problem cuz i had a ton of progs running.. tried it again w/ nothing else running at gave me same error on same worker, just this time 19min. in. that was my weakest core when testing valids too. where is ACC when i need it :p: right now im testing 3200mhz 1.104v :) - 34c load xD EDIT: failed bout 20 min., bumped to 1.116,,, this should pass for sure

any specific clocks you want me to test on linx? how long should i run it?

C6 is optimal. C7 unless you are running 2000+ don't bother.

optimal for what? I can choose between 1680 6-6-6-21 or 1840 7-7-6, bandwith results were better in the 1800 range.
