interesting board
if it allows rtl to be set evga
then its worth it to try.
Low QPI/Vtt voltage? Sb. in Taiwan test it, however.......
It's ok

Early impressions are really good for my retail sample, just a major bug has to be solved first...
It may be ok, as long as there is somone that is gonna make waterblocks for it.....
very interesting board, hope to get one for review o for a great price
I liked the build of the Trienergy, it was one of the most solid boards i owned,
Plus it was fun to oveclock the 1156 chips i had at the time...
The bios was pretty good too.
so i have high hopes for the Xpower..
just wonder what the price point will be and when it will go on sale...
My Test shot..

Just got mine from DHL today - I will be taking pictures overnight and posting them up before I test :)
Anyone that already have this board (or some other Big Bang series) could do me a favor and pack audio software with drivers that goes with it? Mostly im interested about that Creative THX things if i can make it work with other onboard cards as well... Dont need any key or anything (if it comes with it) just DVD packed (or at least audio software). I checked MSI site but they dont have audio software up there yet.
you got an ftp or such to upload them too ?
Board is here, but i am not so impressed like others here, still testing on AIR, but results are the same like on other mobos, i have some problems with LoadLine Calibration, and sometimes is posting weird. Will see undel LN2 this weekend.
Have someone newer BIOS? I have 112, at it seems not full stable at all...
i'm interested the board looks good
i wanna see if msi can deliver a good bios;)
Board is not designed to be different on air OBR, difference counts when you start LN2... most high end boards are clock for clock the same...unless special biosses are used...
when is the release date....
keep us posted ORB,, good effort!
Of course, you are right, i know, its hard to find differences for common using today, on board from 100 EUR cheap mobo, to 500 EUR Giga monster price UD9 ...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/3su9g5 - last Beta Bios
PS. Board was officialy released, i think ..., here is on shelves
about voltage droop?
about v-qpi vs other brand same cpu?
about cold bug?
about general bug and not working config.?
i have a gigabyte ex58-ud5 and work well....
i simply set v-core-v-qpi-v-dram-uncore-baseclock..... and voilą 4ghz.. rock solid without problem...
i need to know if that mobo are rock stable and simple like gigabyte x58 series....
andrea - yeah, that is easy here too ... if you know your CPUs limit, you can set it at first run, and working great. My crappy 980X is running rock stable here at first run at 4600 MHz like on another boards, not better and not worst. Will see where will be my "silver" A0 on LN2 ...
I got a PCB v1.0 as test sample(dunno the PCB version of retail units though, :p) with Bios V1.0B29 and I have nothing but issues. Anyways can I have the latest Beta bios please???
hmmm...the bios in this thread sure looks like to have helped, Goat can you confirm was the earlier version a way too early testing BIOS???
Confirmed. B29 was the bios I had on the very early board back in april and had issues plenty.
The initial sample boards were locked to a 180 amp OCP. MSI released a mod for this that set it to 400 amps and then needed to be told their input inductor is limited to 30 amps only (that's why they now have two input inductors on the retail boards). Lots of goofs on the BIOSes to date, and I'm sure everyone has had to send in a lot of fix lists. S3 resume was borked right up to last week. Most memory timings all over the place. tWR only recieved a buff last week as well. On top of that, the hw side is not that great IMO for a high end board (air, LN2 or whatever).

is the drmos (drivermosfets) not good for high power app? looking at the drivermosfets from asus..it looks beefier.
No it is something else. I've told MSI, and it is what it is.
imc vreg?
wish i knew which hw shortcoming it had...hehehe

Mike.
weird Raju we didn't have any power issues with GT over 6Ghz... not with the early (modded) nor the retail sample (unmodded)... bios indeed needs some fixes...
What do you mean with the HW side is not that great ? Not enough gimmicks ?
Too many gimmicks, not enough substance IMO. There are areas where $200 boards can do better.
What if you put things in perspective? Can the flaws cause inferior overclocking results by a large margin?
I noticed BenchBros hit 6.6G aquamark (ok - no vantage, but still) and AndreYang 6.7G 3D.
So do you guys feel the asus rampage 3 is a better motherboard?
My friend got himself one today and seems there's a problem detecting his HDD's do you guys know which could be the problem? any response is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Blacky
For bloomfield 24/7 OC there's only REX III... my UD9 has big issues with booting over 220Bclock from bios, same counts for the Xpower (QPI issue)... For LN2 this is a very durable board and I was amased it blew my REX III sample away
I think you'll find it's far closer on the retail sample R3E now Leeghoofd. The R3E is a very well executed board.
A major issue I found was in USB speed.
If you try to install an OS via USB it will take forever.
Leeghoofd did you tested this mobo with a bloomfield CPU? if yes, what's the max BCLK with QPI in full and slow mode?
what about efficiency in 32m?
thanks :)
Did anyone get the OC panel, disks, sound card or manual?
I think I may try this board. I need 215bclk for my 920, nothing more. The price is right, and it looks like it comes with a sound card. I thought about trying the REX III but I am not an Asus fan and dont want to pay 369.00 for one.
I got all in my media package Charles, though the Driver DVD (not a final release one) is fubarred, takes ages to read and can't install a darn thing from it (probably burned to fast)
Mafio : for Bclock we found with Bloomfield/GT that you can boot max from bios 220Bclock (QPI issue). When doing soft resets you can go up to whatever ya CPU can handle (my 950 is 229 max on 3 boards on air and LN2, crap CPU) Massman did 249 on GT with SlowMode. We already passed it to MSI so hopefully they will get this fixed as 220 is not good enough for a 2nd generation X58 high end board. I'm experiencing similar issues with the GB UD9 board. The REX III and Classie boot straight around 230Bclock :banana::banana::banana: on air... which is how it should be...
I'm not into slow mode really... either it works flatout or it doesn't here... (I'm more the 3D guy for benching) REX III here did 238Bclock 3D06 stable, will need to get some LN2 to tests the Xpower and UD9. ( as my phase unit is dead )
I'm still busy digging into these boards, but below is the average result of a stock run on my 950 with rams at 1600Mhz C8-8-8-24 1T TRFC 88 and uncore at 3200Mhz. OS Win7 Pro 64bit
http://users.telenet.be/OAP/Xpower/Mafio.jpg
Need to rerun all the tests on the REX II for comparison (was benched on another OS a year ago). Just for Info : REX III Bios 704, GB UD9 on F4A and the MSI on 111 bios. I need to find out why the REX III was slower here as in most of the other tests it was king of the hill. Xpower seems good bang for the buck, UD9 is not so good in that department :p
thanks
efficiency is very good :yepp:
edit: maybe R3E is slower in 32m because of higher RTL
i don't know what kind of benchmark did you run but 32m depends a lot by memory and low RTL means easily 1 or 2 sec faster
Could be, there's where the quests begins :) I usually run 3D01, 06, pi 1 & 32, Wprime32 & 1024, Cinebench, Pcmark05, X264HD, FarCry2 and RE Benchmark...
i don't know about pcmark but all the others test aren't that sensible to memory settings.
therefore higher RTL setted by default by R3E could be the reason of this gap in 32m.
comparisons between mobos are always tricky, there are to much things that can influence the results...
Nothing but the board and disk here, :(, as far as pure ocing is concerned, this seems to be doing its job pretty well but for 24/7 use, it certainly needs a few BIOS updates
new bios ... 121
http://rapidshare.com/files/40133329...1_rar.zip.html
i have a serius dubt about the stability of tath mobo......
watt output problem
usb speed
sata bug
qpi bug 980x
why msi? why?
Do you have the board Andrea ? Works flatout here with GT over 6Ghz, dunno what the Watt problem is... I Hope Raju get's it out in the open so we can relay it to MSI too , maybe to force them to change it in a new rev...
QPI problem exists also with my UD9 sample,so a bios could be the fix... Did USB3 tests nothing slow there... will have to check the other ports...
The input inductor "problem" I stated was for the sample boards only - it has been fixed in retail. It's not good to have an OCP limit set past the maximum value of the input inductor. The other "problem", I have relayed back to MSI and it could be a number of things that add up to it manifesting. It won't affect outright CPU MHz in most instances - but will affect stability in certain scenarios depending upon what you're looking for the board to do.

Official MSI 1.2 BIOS
http://download1.msi.com/files/downl...xe/7666v12.zip
board seems pretty stable under LN2, but i think it must be damned ... :) Few days of benching, and 2 (yeah two) 980X are dead and one Corsair GT kit too, no extreme voltages, no extreme benching ... will see how many components will survive MOA 2010...
Keep the updates coming guys.
I really want to get a new x58 board and this one looks good - just wanted to give a non-Asus board a chance for a change...
Doubt:
MSI XPower or Gigabyte X58A-UD7?
Analyzing greater stability, features and technology. What would be better between the two? Both motherboards are the same price. Thanks!
As of now for sure RE3, but I am sure once the bugs are fixed on the XPower its gonna be a pretty good motherboard for Extreme Overclocking at a very cheap price(infact it still is, since once you figure out the minor bugs, they dont bug you during extreme overclocking, :P)
i honestly dont care for the price
if the xpower was good i woulda paid more for it
i'm not gonna wait 6 months for fixes
they have been fixin the board for months now n still:down:
on paper the xpower is great but  i got no faith in msi for bios fixes
if they do fix it one day i'll buy 1 but look like a few months off maybe a newer rev
Excelent MB, much better than my oldie Classified 760.
First run, no tweaks.

1 x SSD Corsair xtreme 64GB
1x 160gb Seagate Sata
1x 250gb W.Digital Sata
1x 500gb Seagate Sata 7200.12
1x 80GB W.Digital Sata
Im having lots of issues with this new board.. this is my second cause the other failed... Everytime I do over 5.4 on GT it gives me memory errors... this has the ocp mod at 40k.. even lowered to 30k... My 760 classy is a way better board then this....
bugged divider ? We had no issues here with GT over 6Ghz, rams 1000MhzC7 and 4600 uncore speeds...
You need to explain more and show us screenshots etc to get help...
Is this a problem all across the line or just board per board?
is the ocp and pwm mod required for retail release boards ???
No idea, only MSI can answer what they think the cause is. Unless timing X is pointing at bit Y for some reason (MSI reckon they have fixed all the sub-timing issues) there is no software explanation. My boards don't like anything past 16X Uncore with Hyper at CAS 8~9 over DDR3 1900. I see you guys aren't having the same problem and I've seen the subs you are using, so I don't know what to think at this point, I can only go by what I am seeing here. Outside those settings there is nothing else in software that should cause this to manifest. I've used two differnt CPUs as well and it still happens.
Forget stress testing, 32m single thread while benching is almost instant lock and reset (most I get is the first loop and sometimes into the second) even with some very loose subs. 3000~3200MHz Uncore on air/water for stress testing is just about doable with DDR3-2000, but anything higher and the boards I have fall over (BSOD, lockup) fast. Same parts on three other boards do a lot better with lower overall voltage and tighter timings.

ocp i think is set @ 200A.... mod..definitely need for ln2, one cpu we tested could pull 700w from the wall...
pwm freq is set to 250khz...mod raises it to 600khz...i like higher freq.
i just wonder how many revisions they've made... team mate bought retail recently...bios settings didnt fix memory issues..
I wonder about this retail board... the ocp mod resistance was set to 82.5k by default just like the other retail board. I am wondering if there was an update to the new board I have..
The first board came with an early bios that was anightmare.. don't remember the version... this board came with 1.2 by default.. so it must be a newer revision..
maybe Ill return the resistance to stock to see if that helps at all. If ocp has been changed to 300amps instead of the 200amps that I was told.. could help.
I have tried pretty much everthing... Subtimings. Different Multipliers, uncore, blcks.. 5.4ghz is the limit on this board.. I am going to try high vdimm to see if it helps.. I am pretty doubtful though... I also have a new bios to try.. but we will see.
Well some of what you are seeing might be OCP related on your board there.
The 32m issues people are experiencing are not necessarily born from 200 amp OCP limitations to VCC. Single 32m should pass a lot higher than what I am seeing here. To me the problem seems to be related to VTT and VDIMM. Assuming the timings are pointing at right locations, a requirement for high VTT on a board usually points at a fundamental signaling issue.
Very Interesting... I know when I lowered the resistance on the mod.. It worked with wprime for 2 runs... then it would fail everytime after... Which caught me by surprise...
I went away from the machine for a while.. cause I was getting really irritated with the new board.. so my cascade warmed up.. I wonder if the board getting cool has something to do with it....
No way to get PI's 2000MHZ cas6 stable, in fact my oldies OCZ Platinum can't set to default timings.
Everest go really bad with both kits, G.Skill and OCZ.
http://www.unknownteam.cl/wp-content...07/everest.png
My best advice would be for you guys to RMA your boards and take a chance on another or replace them with something else. Anyone on Bloomfield that has an enthusiast level board from the first generation of products should hang on to it, no point in upgrading to any of these second gen boards for Bloomfield in my opinion (SATA 6G and USB3 aren't killer features just yet).

but face to face with RII3, Classi and UD7 the BB Xpower is more cheapest than other models. If others revisions doesn't have this problem with OCP and alpha timmings will be a good choice or maybe a good BIOS.
Looks like I have a newer rev board... Ver 1.1 is supposed to have 360amp OCP. Going to remove my mod and see what it can do. Have to wait til tomorrow though.
Raju.. What version boards do you have?
An early 1.0 ES and a retail 1.0 (input inductors and OCP modded direct from MSI, so effectively a 1.1). They are both poor at clocking memory.
Just had confirmation from MSI HW - all retail are supposed to be 1.1 Steponz - the main changes being the input chokes and the OCP. Memory issues withstanding.
Just to expand a little bit further for others thinking of purchasing this board.. its are a real POS.. I would look at a classified or Rampage 3... I went through 2 for the contests.. the first one was really bad.. and finally died... memory issues.... So then I bought another board to get onto the Lords contest... and guess what... way worse than the first... I took the same CPU that would not go past 5.4 ghz HT on... put it in my classy and only did a little testings and was able to get 5.8 to 5.9 wprime32m stable... the MSI board.. would fail constantly with memory issues... do yourselves a favor and look else where..
Instead of RMa'ing my boards.. I will be torching them for all the grief they have given me... I am actually glad to stop benching them.... Will never buy an MSI product again based upon this.. No RMA for me.. I don't want another board....
+2 / +3 / +4 / + etc etc lol.
Maybe the staff need more time to develope this MB...
I am the one responsible for the "official" part so I take responsibility for the issue and bear full weight of that
I am sorry, I have slacked a fair bit, life for me has taken a few twists and turns for a while. Been a sad depressing time losing a family member too young, tend to let stuff affect me too much that it interferes with my duties.
I will be trying to get these issues condensed and summarized for hopeful resolution...
If you can do me a favor and PM me with you issues and be as detailed as possible to describe the issue, all troubleshooting attempts w/ outcome I will add that to my documentation
