A64 3000+ and Shuttle luuuuvvinn....!!!!

Lo guys.

Finnally I had some moment left to post some benchies for ya.
I´m gonna start with som default clock bencies...and later tonight when I when I have mounted everything in my prommy I´ll give some OC benchies.

Here we go then.
This is all with a default system...no clocks what so ever and bios at default (ram at AUTO) . System was sligthly tweakd...but nothing fancy.
Just installed the system and drivers ...turned off some services and pressed the bench buttons nothing else.

Hmm if you use Sandra 2004 you will get higher scores I think.

Hmm...seems weird to me how you take thoose sandra benchies so seriously.

I´ll try to dl Sandra 2004 and see if the cahnge.

Also remember that meme timings was on AUTO wich means 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 8.

Only because in another Forum we've a little race going bout Sandra wetstone!;)

You guys are aware that the Athlon 64 is only single channel memory right? Those scores are good.

Dosent seem like the cache drop has killed the performance then.

I will be VERY interested in OC performance..

If I do buy a new setup in the next month this is the most likely condidate.

Single-channel. Sure..... I was only talking bout the CPU-bench! 7700 mipps is not good! Whatever, lets wait, till he oced around a little.....

Looks promising, I am thinking about getting one of the a64 3000s for a new rig. Problem is Im wondering if I should wait for the 939 fxs or get an a64 3200.

I'm talking CPU scores here, not memory.

Sandra 2004 stated it added a bunch of P4 and A64 support, so I would expect the A64s to get a score boost just like the P4's did.

sandra = rubbish IMHO...

Its usefull for comparing like for like but to compare P4 and A64 its totaly and utterly useless.

My 2.4B in an 845E board @ ~3.5Ghz w/ PC-2700 pulled 43 seconds..SuperPi should definately be a bit faster.

This is another 3000+ overclocked to 2400Mhz.. Not stable though cause i think that PCI was runing to high. Memory tested fine all the way up to 250FSB in memtest86 so i know it wasnt that. 2360Mhz at 236FSB was the highest i could get stable.

All benches are with it at 2400Mhz and ofcourse the 3dmark2k1 is at 2360 :(

System setup for the moment..soon to be change this Monday.

AMD 64 3000+ Retail heatsink only
Chaintech NF3 150 VDIMM MOD w/ 3.14v
1x 512MB of some old Corsair 3200 non cas 2 BH-5.. DAMAGED! A pin connector was ripped off.

All benches done besides the 3dmark(at 2360Mhz) were at 2400Mhz 240x10 1/1 LDT 2.5x @ 1.75Vcore mem @ cas2,3,6,2 at 3.14v.

I'm really happy about the results.. Though ofcourse the stange part is that the damn Chaintech board only has one good Dimm slot.. Dimm slot 1 is the only one out of the 3 slots that wants to run.. I can get that up to 250FSB on that slot one and the others only want to go up to 210-215 only. So cuase of that i am returning the board and getting a Shuttle Monday.. Plus since i dont like how hot the AMD 64 3000+ runs at default voltage out of the case at 49C under load with the retail HS, i'm returning it for another which is coming monday as well.. i dont know if it will be better but i'll tell ya that my damn Opteron 144 didnt run that hot even when i had it set at max voltage of 1.7v in the bios w/ a cooler master HS which is about the same as the retail. I dont know if theres any goop under the heat spreader or not.. thats what i'm betting. At 1.75v this thing was cooking over 64C!.. i dont think so hehe.

eclypse what version of Sandra is that? The multimedia seems extremely low.

Otherwise nice results, the A64's gain massive amounts of momemtum when the clocks are raised.

Funny i didnt think it was low.. Well i ran it with a Geforce 2 Pro since i needed to keep the ATi in the spare rig for the moment... That might be why.. dont know.

I was using version 2004.10.9.89

My 2.4c scores in the 20-30k range in Multimedia at 281x12.

I am using 2004....I don't think vid card affects it.

I think it must cause my old spare rig runing a 2100+ TB B at 2440Mhz at 195FSB in an old Abit KX7-333R with the 9700 pro AIW just scored a 22,000+/24,000 in that multimedia bench same sandra version.

Only thing is I don´t have SATA/ATA IDE PCI card att hand that can handle high pci busses...so I guess I´ll have try an old seagate 4.3gb disk and if it can take high busses.

Yeah i should of ordered one of those cards as well.. Just not too sure which one will work.. I mean can a simple SATA RAID 33/66Mhz card do? heh i knew i should of ordered it.

i woulda thought though, that since it had less cache, it would be able to OC further mhz wise then the 3200+ with 1mb l2 cache

Dame...have been struggling with way to low 3DMark benchies.....gonna go for a reinstall tomorrow.

I believe that the limit isn't the cache but 0.13ì technology. Both intel and amd need 0.09... ;)

There are several things involved.

A big thing is pipeline size, which is what lets Intel clock theirs so high.

Wonder what would happen under water?? I reckon 2550-2600 easily :)

I agree. Despite their differences though, in my opinion, a huge step in oc'ing speeds (for each manufacturer the speeds will be different) is going to happen only with the transition to 0.09.

Well m8.... AGP=66.80 PCI=33.40

And I hve been running my onboard SATA with my WD Raptor at 280fsb ...without any problems what so ever....so I do belive there is a working pci lock on this one.

Ooooo thats good news for anyone wanting A64 lurving :D

Voltage mod for this shuttle board? Is it safe? I just need like a tad over 3v or somewhere in the 3.0-3.2 range..

I just received my Shuttle board and it dont like anything over 220FSB using the newest BIOS cause of that little 2.88v vdimm.

I just picked up a 3400+ 64 chip at a local shop last night out doing some Xmas returns.. hehe I couldnt pass it up! Got it for 450.00. SO far just messing with it today i had it at 2400Mhz at 220FSB. The 3000+ didnt even want nothing to do with 220FSB.

Its using the 11 Mult! So hehe.. I think 230FSB should be doable..heheh THough its cooking with a Cooler Master HS now at like 51C at 1.5v :( God i have to order me a water block for this thing.

ClockGen does NOT read the proper PCI speeds. When I scaled the Shuttle to 335Mhz FSB it still read 33Mhz, and it was definitely not the case. Without an addin IDE controller I could not scale the FSB without problems. My thoughts are his serial controller and/or hard drive are much more tolerant of the PCI speeds than most.

It has been proven through the use of PCI geiger that the PCI bus is NOT locked and is an inherent feature in all nForce3 chipsets no matter the board manufacturer. The AGP bus is in fact locked. PCI bus appears to run on a 1/6th divider.

Lard Arse posted the mods for the Shuttle over at VR-Zone. They are indeed safe and easy to perform. 3-3.2v will be a piece of cake. Just remember that the unlocked PCI bus contributes to the inability of scaling FSB on these boards, and you will need an addin PCI IDE or Serial Controller to take it to it's limits. You'll also need to use clock gen to lower your multi to take advantage of the FSB capabilities of the board, and to also go above the bios' 280Mhz FSB limitation.

Just a forewarning of the Shuttles Vdimm abilities: extreme Vdimm will take out the memory controller on the A64, so only use as much as needed to achieve your FSB goal.

Well I was running it at 5:4 divider...or as it says in bios 166mh(PC2700)...so that gave me about 224mhz in memory speed @ 2,5 - 2 - 2 - 5.....my A-Data BH-5 wont do cas2. And al this with 3,0 vdimm.

How ever I´ve tried 1:1 and manged 260 1:1 2,5 - 2 - 2 - 5 with 3.5vdimm....didn´t dare higher. Can´t afford a new chp right now.

Well MrIcee.....with all due respect...but I´ve tried 2 Raptors..both worked fine.
A whole bunch of IDE drives both new and old....they worked fine...and also different kind of PCI addon cards...just ordinary 33mhz card that is...and they also worked fine.

So about having luck with my hardware I can´t agree.....because of the amount of different hardware I´ve tried.

So if the pci lock really isn´t there then I must be equiped with the most tolreant mobo in the world.

Indeed i second that how in the hell is 280 + FSB possible with a not PCI locked mobo full of onboard junk and pci cards.

Also if you higher the AGP Bus @ clockgen the PCI bus goes higer 2 so i think were frikkin lucky or indeed the most tolerant mobos there are :stick: :D

Guys...I'm just reporting to you results of tests that have already been done. I can tell you unequivockly that I had trouble above your reported 280Mhz FSB.....until I installed the Promise Ultra133 TX2 for my hard drive, a WD 80 gig JB. I couldn't get to 300Mhz FSB without it let alone make it to 335Mhz FSB reliably.

This is not to say they aren't using a divider scheme higher than 1/6th once you pass certain frequencies. But it has been determined there is no lock on the PCI bus, and the following tests have confirmed it:

I´ve read thoose articles about the pci lock on NF3...but somehow I can´t belive that there is no lock..not on my board atleast.
Might be that I´m a veeeeery lucky owner of a board that have working pci lock....might also be that I have extreme luck with al of my tested hardware....I really don´t know....but everything I´ve tried is working perfect sp far at thoose speeds.

I´ve have a hard time beliveing that I am that lucky.

just hooked the prommy up to my new stuff. currently at 270x10 with the divider at 166. at what fsb should i expect the drives to start giving out?

I started having troubles over 280Mhz....300 Mhz+ was a no go for me without a PCI Ide card.

At what speed you got thoose temps..??

Jeezzez..that´s way off maan.

At default my bios reads -13... mbm reads -20 ....and display -43

heh i forgot the vcore is modded. so my default is 1.7v. seems its reading more correct all of a sudden. at 1.8v im getting -15c and -3c at load. evap head is at-50c. pretty close to your temps. imo the board is still way off though.

is it just me or is there no way to adjust ram timmings on the board?

you need to flash to the newest bios. it let's you adjust the timmings manually.

Regarding clockgen....basiclly everytime I trie to change multiples on my cpu the systems hangs ...and I have to "reset" it...the change is made ....but pretty anoying thou.

Clockgen works fine for me with an50r. Have 240 set in bios and then i go in 3-5 MHz steps up to 270

Yeah changing the FSB works fine for me to...it´s only the multiple setting that hangs the system.

Anything over 2500 no matter what voltage or setting I have to use 2x LDT

I am at 2650MHz, not very stable though. I am giving 1.84v to the CPU and I dont know if I should give it any more :)

Well it does for me.
However as I said...it freezes my system and I have to press the "reset" button...when I then get in to windows...the multi is changed.

Did some playing with the FSB...to se what max was.

I used 3:2...or atleast I think it is...PC2100(133mhz.)

3DMark scores are crappy...but this isn´t in purpose to get high scores....only to show level of stabilty.

Also SuperPI is way low...I guess because of the low memory bandwidth.

And once again this is with my onboard SATA and my WD Raptor. I can boot in to windows at 280fsb...thats max in bios. And then clockgen all the way up.
At 325 it´s perfectly stable.. I can run it there all day long no problems what so ever with any hardware.

Was running at max stable before I tried for high fsb:s ...and I didn´t change the volts before trying...... so 1.8vcore and 3.1 vdimm.

About the PCI lock....I have been saying it to...I´m not really sure but it sure feels like I got one with an actually locked PCI buss.


ATM I´m playing around with it to see where I get highest 24/7 stability since this is my gaming and 24/7 rigg.

And I´m at 8,5x294.7.....so far it seems perfectly stable. Runnig SETI in bakground along with playong games and ripping mp3`s and mpeg´s....no problem what so ever.

Well m8...other then low voltage options from factory....there ain´t much to complain about this mobo....I simply love it.

Naughty, did u already mention if Cool'n'Quiet feature is working in bios AN50s00y ? (Shuttle claim they enabled it - reviews say no)
