no kidding I have one X5660 that I got for a steal, but it brings me to tears having to pay any where near retail for these chips:eek:

Lian Li PC-P80 or a couple Mountain Mod cases. I've been speaking with Andrea from Dimastech to have them create an Easy Case for it. I mess around swapping hardware too often to have anything in a permanent case anyways :p:
-
I deeply envy you. :P
Let's see some LN2 numbers ASAP! What kind of other hardware are you looking to pair up with it?

Tell me about it, I recieved my two X5660 a few weeks ago and they were a pretty penny. I can tell you though from what I have read from a few places is that the westmeres are not in full production and won't be till June which is right around the corner. Hopefully they will drop down in price a bit after July.
I am still waiting to see how they perform. From the various posts I have seen, even the E series are running dam good.

I have a B0 revision and it is the coolest running chip I have, its unreal. I am hoping my buddy can grab me another ES for the less than half of retail:shocked:

I would be all over an SR2 for a F@H rig if I didn't have to spent north of $2k to get semi decent chips.
-
i got F@H running on my rig today.
seems to avg. ~37k ppd consistently on my x5677 quads

What are some good options for air-cooled heatsinks for a vertically-mounted SR-2, that don't block any of the RAM slots? Movieman is using TRUEs in his horizontal mount, but from the image of the board in the OP of this thread, it looks like it would be a tight fit.
Also, what about 4GB ECC RAM modules? I've been looking at the 1333 CL9 Elpida D dual-ranked modules from Kingston.
-
By the way, you can now pre-order the board and it should ship next week.

Any thoughts on what the after-OC performance difference is likely to be between the X5650 and the X5660? The latter has an odd multiplier, which I've heard is easier to OC -- but the price is also $200 higher.
-
^^^ Yeah odd multi seams to need less vCore on X56xx too, but if SR-2 can hit high BCLK then X5650 may do the same 24/7 OC as those other with higher multi.
My X5650 is doing great @4.18GHZ(220x19) 1.31v, with Uncore=x15 , VVT=1.32v on GA UD7 (after the latest GA BIOSes have unlocked the Uncore). I haven't tested the stability throughly for x20 and x22 (which are the only other options), but these seams to need 3-4 notches more vCore for the same OC. So x23 multi (or even better, x21 without turbo) could be very useful, specially if SR-2 can't handle high BCLKs. It is interesting to see, and all depends on what kind of BCLK SR-2 can handle for 24/7.
@=[PULSAR]= , haven't you get it up yet?
-
Pulsar, when you have time could you do a max bclk test ?

I read on the evga forum that it's difficult to hit a high BCLK on the SR-2.

Fitseries3, have you tried max bclk of the sr-2 ?? Being a student mean i cant afford 2 x5650 but 2 e5620 could be just under my limit if the sr-2 can do around 220 bclk or more

The 9 expansion slots and Length seams to be a good fit, but the Width seams to be inadequate. I don't have the exact number, just from the look of it. This looks like a great case with good cooling and many innovations. If it can fit with minor mod, then it can be the saver.

Yea, I was just looking at that case last night since a lot of the new boards are the ATX -xl like the UD9 and eVGA 4 way
-
Hi Fitseries, do you have pictures of your sr2 system ? and watercooler system ? thx

According to CoolerMaster spec the HAF X can hold M-ATX / ATX / E-ATX / XL-ATX, but this is not enough for SR-2 (HPTX Form Factor). It may still fit, but I can't find the exact max-Width it can hold anywhere.
-
EDIT: Does the SR-2 have one 5520, or two? I'm beginning to think it only has one, with several NF200's making it look like it has more PCIe lanes than it really has; if so, I'm afraid I may have made the wrong choice...

No. Dual-QPI (5000-series) Xeons only.

The SR-2 has 1 5520 and 2 NF200 chips but can run 4 pci-e slots at 16x.

No. Dual-QPI (5000-series) Xeons only.
dual i5520 IOH chips would have alot more latency than the nf200's.
evga chose the better option.

1 5520 and 2 NF200s means that it is running 4 PCIe slots at x16, but muxed into only 32 lanes.
-
if you put a card in an 8x slot, all 7 slots drop to 8x though.

That's good to know! Can I ask how you figured that out or where you heard it?
Do you know which slots are attached to which NF200?

all 7 slots are on nf200's.
there are 2 nf200's on this board, same as the classy 762.

sorry for asking again but fitserie, what is the max bclk you got on your sr-2 ?

A44 BIOS released here

The following has been updated in A44:
* Improves Resource Allocation
* Number of GPUs Now Displayed at Boot
* Uncore Ratio Selection Added
Nice to see the uncore is now adjustable :)
-
Yeah, the unlocked Uncore it really important. It will make a BIG difference.
I only need a BCLK220+ confirmation for 24/7 stability, and the rest will rock, for sure.

Just found out can only adjust on A0/A1 and B1 chips, sucks it won't work on our B0's.

Yeah I've heard the same a couple of days ago, no unlocking on B0 yet.
I got B1, tho :D

According to the specs, it only supports 4x16 and if you have more than 4 PCIe cards then it drops to 6x8 + 1x16. Kinda disappointing since Gigabyte's GA-X58A-UD9 can do 4x16 + 3x8 (using the X58 instead of the 5520, which are pretty much identical in terms of PCIe and both have 2x nF200). Wonder why eVGA doesn't allow a similar configuration since I am interested in more than 4 PCIe cards (such as sound card, which only requires a x1 slot but I'd rather not have it drop the dual GPUs to x8). Also, there are 12x DIMM slots with maximum memory capacity at 48GB. How is this limit actually derived from? I don't suppose anyone has 8GB sticks to test on this (and theoretically filling up to 96GB max). Anyone have any insight on these issues?

Are you sure about that? That sucks if that is true as I have a B0 ES and I have the option of grabbing another one for cheap, but now I will have to rethink that one.
-
i can confirm. B0 has locked uncore
if i could trade my B0s for B1s i'd be all over that.

*bump* Has anyone tried more than 4 PCIe cards? Does it automatically switch to x8 lanes? I'm hoping a BIOS update will be available to make this board comparable to the Gigabyte one in terms of GPU capabilities. I mean if someone is gonna put in $5000+, you want the best of the best right? I doubt anyone's gonna be wasting money to test out the 48GB capacity though if anyone has 8GB sticks, I would definitely be interested in knowing if those work without any issues.
-
i think you misunderstand how the ud9 works. its the same.

Why would you need more than 4 slots with 16x lanes?
-
7 8800gt's for folding or multi monitor setups.

It's been tested before numerous times that when folding their is no difference between 16x and 8x.
-
correct and thats why none of us understand the complaining.
-
Well according to eVGA if you have more than 4 cards in the PCIe slots, then it will change all of them to x8 (as compared to Gigabyte's spec sheet which show 4x16 AND 3x8). So for example if I had 3 GTX 480s and a SSD PCIe and then put in a PCIe sound card, it would drop the GPUs and SSD from x16 to x8, which would impact performance.
-
i already told you. its the same on the ud9. you are misunderstanding. look harder. even newegg lays it out for you.
-
Thanks a lot. I guess Gigabyte needs to fix their spec sheet online. I'll check out Newegg.
edit: nvm, just didn't read the notes pertaining to the PCIe slots at the bottom of the page. Thanks again. Guess instead of a PCIe sound card, I'll use a USB solution.
-
For those using the SR-2: what are your PWM temps?

keep in mind, im folding at the moment...
cpu0 isnt getting good airflow around the socket hence the bad temps for PWM

What kind of stress test? 2D or 3D?
-
My SR-2 system pulls aprox 630-650w using a kill a watt under 100% load crunching WCG. I don't know what it pulls under 3d because then I would need to stop it from crunching
-
My CPU0 PWM is running at 90c loaded, maybe I should take a look at reseting the PWM heatsink....
-
Do you have any airflow over them? The PWMs on my E760 used to get really hot while on the bench table, but I put the fan from the stock Intel heatsink over them and the temps went way down.
-
Just picked up tow of these
http://img.techpowerup.org/100625/Capture187.jpg
Didn't have any time to play with it yet, just a test run to get a feeling of this baby.
The Uncore seams to be stuck at x18 on my UD7. Keeping it at BCLK190 with VVT=1.32v for now, but I hope SR-2 can unlock the A0.
Now that I have tree X56xx, would need a SR-3, LOL. But even my SR-2 is not shipped yet, it doesn't have a box yet :p:
-
I may have some teaser pics of my build up tomorrow. Wish I went with red tubing rather than clear with red dye, we will see how it comes out.
-
On other news if you ordered a SR-2 EVGA just shipped out the ECP for it :D
-
Trying CPU#2, still on UD7 and Uncore is till stuck at x18.
This baby seams to be much better chip. Got much better IMC and seams to be doing OK at BCLK200 with VVT=1.32v, and need less vCore too:)
Just got it up and running, and I have to test more, but so far so good:
X5650 @4.0GHz(200x20) 1.21v :)

Glad to helpyou but the issue has been that EVGA sent this in a box that a small refrigerator would fit in and they get cheap shipping rates, YOU don't, so been trying to find the "right" box to ship this in..
Not a common size but I found the perfect one.
Should help keep the cost down to a reasonable $200.00 or so!

This thningy is not exactly light and little, and international shipping is not exactly cheap either. I appreciate your efforts for reducing it :)

ecc runs really well in the sr2.
timings are listed in the HWbot link.
