Im sorry if this has been posted before. However I was wondering what kind of overclocks yall have gotten, and how much it helped. Im wondering how much I should invest in new cooling for my next rig. How much has your overclocked helped you in 3dmarks especially?

Thats really impressive for stock cooling! I was also wondering what the difference in overclock inbetween air water and phasechange is on gpus? Also is there a point where it doesnt help as much anymore?

Everyday settings are 420/350
Overclocks for benchmarking are 490/400
Don't know how much it helps but I know I get about 15k stock and 21,600 at my super overclock settings with my 2.4c

Hercules 9800 Pro:
Stock cooling: 460MHz / 360MHz 24/7
Vmodded and cooled with sawed P4 hs: 500MHz / 400MHz 24/7,
530MHz / 400Mhz for bench.
Connect3D Radeon 9800SE AIW (running with 8-pipelines via driver mod)
stock => 435/350 or so
removed the shim, installed P4 retail heatsink+70mm fan => 455/350
GPU vmodded to 1.96V and 70mm fan at 5V (normal room temp) can pass 3DMark2001 Drago hi at 522MHz GPU ;) 531MHz locks up at the end of the test. I'll try with 'open window mod' and fan at 12V next :D
The dang GPU on this card clocks better than the GPU on my 9800XT!

Powercolor 9800 Pro stock volts and cooled ran, core 475 mem 400. This was 3Dmark stable.
With just a mild increase in cooling the core hit over 500.
Those results were with the Catalyst drivers prior to 3.8.

BTW: what is so impossible in that??? My chip do 506/370, stock is 400/300, whit stock cooling(was but now a temporary old CPU heatsink that cant be placed correctely, so work like s_hit).

incredible clocks macci!! im up to 420/375 right now on stock, but my case is a little furnace, im gonna be re-vamping my cooling solution.

Now the 540MHz GPU on air was something I have never seen before....but then again 660MHz GPU with cascade is even more insane considering the limited GPU powersupply components on the SE card! :D
It will run this speed thru drago hi test and only when Vmem mod is not on and mem clocks at 360MHz:

The mem clocks on the card ain't that great because it has 3.3ns RAM but the huge GPU speed made it possible to take the #1 R9800Pro score in the ORB - and its with a card that is not even a true 9800PRO :D

I am thinking of picking up a 9800 pro and was curious how much real world improvement I would see over my 9500 pro that I have softmodded and running at 360 core 312 memory clock. I play Shadowbane, Call of Duty, and plan to pick up more first person shooters in the future.
from my own experience all my VIVO type cards had crazy stock cooling GPU core clocks compared to the non-vivo cards
@ Macci, how do you hook your CPU cooler on your GPU???? Ive my cooler on it since 3 days, and its hook by scottch tape...LOL. Ive no screw fit in my holes.
I drilled holes to the base of that P4 retail sink. then tapped em and mounted it to the card with screws.

damn man! There is something wrong me with me. I have a VGA silencer on my new 9800pro with Tweakmonster ram sinks, and I can't hit 415 GPU without getting snow in drago. It's a built by ATI card that should be clocking better don't you think?

It's not like I am some noob who doesn't know how to OC. I just can't seem to get good clocks on these ATI cards. My gf3ti200 was over 10K and my GF4Ti4200 was over 16K. Not mind blowing, but a nice OC to say the least on air and no vmods.
I guess I need to pull out the ol' soldering iron and slap on some vmods to get this thing running!

Have you all tested your Oc cards with 03mark using nature test??? I bet you will all have huge amount of snow everywhere.
I run my hercules 9800 pro 440mhz with a copper cpu heatsink with 0 artifacts in nature but when set 460mhz I'd get alot of snow so there are alot of people in here who just report their max stable oc numbers as long as it doesnt crash but they dont mention anything about snow. I wouldn't consider that your max oc. Just my opinion...
We all know that, our overclocks are artifact free.
my HSF is working very very very good, its very usefull. My GPU is very cool now, i feel no heat when i touche the reverse now(before it was almost burning my finger) and my HSF is cool like ever!!!! that fan move alot of air, or should i say wind...LOL. the only think i have to do on it now its some RAMsinksQuote:

I'm not talking about ram artifacts or heat artifacts but the most common artifacts when u push the core too much. It looks like small white pixels or snow but no tearing of any sort. I can push my core up to max 490mhz with hercules tweaker and not crash once in 3dmark but not without huge amount of Snow. I think it has to do with voltages because when i did a softmod on the vgpu and raised it up to 1.9vgpu it elimanted all the snow. Now i just run it default voltage because u bearly notice any diff in games from 440mhz to 500mhz but it does benefit benches however. I just simply do not believe its possible to get 500mhz on air with no vmods and be 100% artifact free.Quote:

Dr. maybe you are on to something? Maybe thats why my clocks are so much lower than everyone elses? It is still there so I do not claim that to be a stable OC. I OC mainly for games to play better so any snow or artifacts don't help. I do like to bench though too. I need to try out this card on a full run as high as it will go without crashing, snow or not. I am curious as to the clocks.
BTW is there any ATI tweaker better than any other. I use either Rage 3D or Rad Clocker. I had always used Riva Tuner on my Geforce cards with great results. I should try it again, as I see Macci is using it, so it must be good for ati's.

Yeah the card I am not that happy with. It's just the nature of the beast in oc'ing. I was almost hoping it was me since this is my 2nd ATI card(and first 2 I owned) that seems to be a dud! Just thought maybe I couldn't OC ATI's. Yeah I know I am grabbing at straws!! Might as well just sell it and the 9700pro for a 9800XT.

Yes indeed for games it will always run without artifacts compared to 03mark. I can put 480mhz and have zero artifacts in BF1942, unreal2003, etc but in 03 nature test things get really ugly so i dont consider the oc 100% successful since there are non at stock speed. Who knows maybe 03 nature test carries a code glitch at high core speeds but again i could be wrong.Quote:

you could always try drago in 3dm01. I have always found this a great artifact/snow tester. That and game2 on 3dm03. This is along with both Natures.

I just got an ati 9800se, it has hynix chips. How high have yall gotten the ses and also do yall think I can softmod this one? Also could someone give me a link to the omega drivers that do this! One last question, what are the best mem chips for the 9800s?
my 9800pro bytes does like 428/375 with a heatpipe similar to the zalman.. came with the sapphireultimate i think i need to attack a fan to it
i was getting 430/360 stock cooling. now with my silencer and ocz ram sinks, i get 451/381.

the barton was the key for me to get over 20k and i couldn't do that with higher fsb and my 1700 tbred at 2430mhz

Does flashing in another bios improve overclocking? I've got a Hercules 9800se AIW which I've got softmodded. Its overclocked to 385/740Mhz. Is it worth the try to flash in the ATI 9800Pro AIW bios?

I've flashed in the ATI 9800Pro AIW bios without any problems. However I didn't reach any higher clocks without artifacts, the weird thing is that after flashing my 3DMark score went up with 500 points :confused: . Guess the 9800Pro bios handles those 8 pipelines better. Too bad I can't get my core to XT speeds without artifacts, I'll just have to wait for WC.

Its running at 1.6V and XT is running at 1.8V..no wonder your SE wont reach XT clocks :)
Macci, is it normal i only raise my voltage to 1.6 to OC to 515/365? coze when i volt higher it crash, and i dont know if on a card we have to stay a the same volt. I know its a dum question, but im really wondering
