Got some stuff in today.....EK-DCP 4.0 and Res, EK Supreme HF, and XSPC 360

I won't have a chance to get everything together until this weekend. Still waiting on the second pump to arrive. Before anyone can say anything, I have the pump turned that way to feed the second pump via male to male rotoary adapter and the lower barb fitting on the res is for my drain tube and plug.

I want to complement Performance PC's they shipped everything out the same day I ordered and everything was packaged very well. I've not ordered from them before so I didn't know what to expect. Good prices too! Also the EK packaging was nice and everything was accounted for.

The rest of my stuff should be here tomorrow and post back some results with one pump vs two in series.

Oh, thanks again Waterlogged and evryone else that chimmed in and helped with data and my parts selection.

I gutted an old CDROM drive to use in my drive bay to mount the pumps on. Just using the upper cover from the drive. It my not work out like I planned since the pump is a little larger than I thought and not sure I can squeeze 2 pumps onto it. But I thought it would keep the tubes short and make for a tidy case. Do you think the pumps would be better off at the bottom of the case in front of the fans?

Sweet. I have a similar tiny EK res and XSPC 420 rad and gentle typhoons (great fans). It's a great combo for my cpu at least. It was hard as hell to bleed the loop though, the rez was a little vortex. Mine had a top port and I used a length of tube to get it full to the top.

I'm a little concerned with the res having a vortex issue but can't you put a round sponge disk in the tank to prevent it? I know some come with baffles that go in them.

Thanks! that is what I saw someone use and I can get it right down the street.

Thanks! I'm glad to be back tweaking but my days on the bench are long gone. I'm married now so no money and no time! lol

I'm still trying to play catch up on whats new. I think Randy "MrIcee" is planning on doing some reviews again. I think he has dusted off all of his cooling stuff, rolled up his sleeves, and hopped right back in the game.

How are you supposed to mount the pump now when the reservoir is installed? The mounting system for this pump is horrible. Pertra's gel stuff removed most of the noise and vibration.

I agree the mount is not the best design. Even if EK didn't include a better mount with the pump they should design one and sell it seperately.

I'm either going to use the supplied double sided adhesive pads or since I'm using 2 pumps I should be able to mount one pump normally and use the one remaining mount on the pump with the res for a triad.

If I end up putting it in the bottom of my case I doubt I mount it at all and just run a zip tie between the pump and the res through the fan holes below the pump.

Sorry for asking but why did u choose EK's pump over a mcp355...?

Price was the main consideration, I can get 2x DCP 4.0 for the price of a single D5 or DCC. I want to run 2x pumps in series for safety since this is my 24/7 rig.

Secondly, dual CPX-Pro's out perform the D5 and the DCC 3.2 even with tops.

And finally, These pumps are supposedly very quiet. Thats important to me since this computer is in my home office.

If I had the money i would have gone with dual D5's w/top probably but was on a tight budget.

Got the rest of my supplies in today including the second pump. Here is the completed Assembly with the male to male rotary. I'm scraping the drive bay option as there just isn't enough room without turning everything sideways and using 90 deg adaptors.

Well, after the first beer I got so tied up in what I was doing I didn't drink any more.

Took me about 4 hours to do some wire managment in the case and get everything set up. But I'm finished! :up:

Some Pics of the completed setup. I ended up using adhesive velcro pads under the pumps.

The set up is MUCH quieter now than with the air cooling setup I was using.

I switched out the installed P3 and used the P1 jet plate in the block. It's getting late but I'm going to load up my 4.4Ghz settings and runs some Linx to see what kind of temps I'm getting now.

This is with the same settings that I ran 24/7 with my air cooling, so no adjustments to voltages yet. I'll start over with the OC now with the water cooling.

Ran Linx and didn't realize that WCG was running as well at 100%. Temps seem a tad higher than I was expecting. With the side of my case on I averaged in the high 70's and peeked at 81. I took the side off the case and temps dropped down to low to mid 70's. Maybe I need to reverse the exhaust fan on the rear of the case to blow in?? I notice when I take the case side off that it has suction on it like a vaccum seal.

I thought about that too.

I'm going to try reversing the exhaust fan on the rear of the case first. I'm also going to see if installing a 5 1/4 bay fan will help. I'm going to test by removing the top 3 bay covers and putting a 120mm fan there. If that gets the temps inline then I'll look at what is available that will look good doing it.

A quick down and dirty test to see what difference a 120mm fan in the drive bay would do.

Got the Scythe Kama bay plus in the mail today. Took the inculded fan off and mounted a 110cfm fan instead.

Droped my temps by 6c average running Linx, about the same results from my quick test.

I have positive experience before with Performance PCS, so I'm still having second thoughts about cpu block and radiator since I wont to put rad inside my cm690 rather than back on the case.

Always put cooler air into your rad. I have a PA120.3 push/pull supplying ambient room air into my U2-UFO, across the MB and out the back and top.

I totally agree, but with my rad being in the top of the case that is easier said than done.

With the addition of the drive bay fan I've got my temps inline. When I add the rad in the bottom of the case that should help too sice it WILL be drawing in cool air from under the case.

Was looking at setting up the new loop and figured out how to use the sythe kama bay fan to mount the RX120 up front in the drive bay.
Just needs a mod or two and that way I can leave my pumps at the bottom of the case too.

Just an update. I finally got everything to add a Rad in the bottom of the case.
RX120, 2x GT 1850rpm, and some right angle fittings for the pumps.

I'll post some photos after I get it all set up (I'm sure I'll stay up late messing with it! lol)

Here is the last temp test I did after I reversed the fans in my case. All are blowing out now except the ones on the RX360 in the top which are drawing cold in in through the rad.
The RX120 will go in the bottom of the case drawing cold air in through it as well. I'll post some results after I get it all set up at the same settings below for comparison.

BTW, I have some money to put into my system next week. Looking at going with a 980x on the RX360 and RX120 with the same setup and adding a Nvidia 480 to a separate loop with 2x Swiftech QP120's one in the front drive bay and the other in the rear of the case. I may have the money to go with some DDC 3.25 pumps and dual tops too.

First off I needed some additional space under the case for air flow to the rad and PSU so I installed some coasters:

If you look back up a few posts you can see the difference in temps from the previous revisions of the cooling. The RX120 made a 5c improvement in temps.

It hit 70c one instant but stayed at 68c max for core #1, I'm sure I'll get another 1c out of it when all the air is purged.

I don't think I'll have room to add any more Rads without modding the case for cooling my video once I get something new. Not sure what the best course will be for the video.

How are you finding those pumps to perform Major? I was just about to ask if you had another in serial but I just saw the last picture :)

Well I don't have any other pumps to compare them too!

They are very quite though, when they were in the bottom of the case I couldn't hear them at all. Now that I've moved them up into the drive bay in front of the fan I hear a very slight hum. They seem to be moving some water based on the vortex in the micro res. :)

Only real complaint with the pumps so far is the lack of mounting options.

I came into some money since I started this project. Even though my funds are far from unlimited I do have enough to upgrade a few things now ;)

One observation I just made and I'm not sure what it may indicate.

I monitoring the rpm's on the pumps through the mb and EasyTune6. I just noticed that now the pump rpms are up from the previous setup.
Before they were at 1700-1704 rpm and now the are reading 1735-1739 rpm. Would that indicate an increase of flow? pumps not working as hard?

I added 2x 90deg fittings to the setup that should have added some restriction to the loop.
The only other thing that has changed other than adding the RX120 is the male to male rotary that was connecting the two pumps has been removed and I moved the pumps up higher in the case.

Just curious, may not indicate squat haha

I think it's due to the added restriction. Just pinch a tube and see if the rpm's go up, that should indicate it.

So, I didn't quite make it to revision 2.0 yet. :)

I'd say I'm on Rev 1.6 right now.

Installed 2 RX120's, one in the bottom of the case (replacing the one I messed up) and another in the drive bay. Changed the pump configuration around a little but kept the EK DCP 4.0 pumps.

Res>pump>RX120>RX120>pump>RX360>cpu>

Didn't see much of an improvement in temps by adding the second RX120, but I'm ready for more processor power now!

You can easily mount a 120mm rad where the back exhaust fan is. I've squized one in the Cosmos S and HAF932. It's a little tight in the Cosmos S but it's doable.

I thought about doing that but it didn't look like there would be room with the RX series, maybe a QP. I'll look at it closer and see. I still have the RX120 that I repaired that I could install back there. ;)
