Q6600 - What about Temperature?

Hello Dudes!
I want to ask some questions about my Temperatures.

I have the ring of my signature with the cpu at 1.4v.
My Watercooling aparts from, Eleven Block, Swiftech MCP655, Airplex 360. The Reservoir appears on my signature's link.

I used to test my CPU with Prime95. One day i tried to test with Intel Burn Test and the temperatures was insane!!!!!
Idle, i have about 46C-46C-42C-42C

Replace the CPU block. There is just channels for cooling, no micro pins etc. The block first needs to be replaced.

Replacing the CPU block, the temperatures will be better?

It doesn't worth i think to change if for 2-3C below or will be lower?

There is something wrong there, be sure to check airflow over rad, water flow rate etc, make sure there is nothing else that isn't working as it should do. You can also reseat your block just to see whether this is your issue. If your system has been going for a long time it might be worth opening up the block to see for any blockages also.

For comparison I have a 980x clocked to 4.55ghz with 1.45vcore running on a single RS120 with a 1200rpm fan and that idled at 41-45c with load being high 70's, however needless to say its running stock until I can find a larger rad like your 360!

I have set the pressure of MCP655 at 3. Max is 5.
Is good choice to set it higher... for example 4.50?

3 should be fine its a small loop... i have 1.45v going through mine and mines not even reaching your idle temps...

and mines a frigging hot beast (was going 80+c on a true with a delta @ 1.4v 3.2ghz :/ )


remount? not enough pressure? for now put the pump on 5 etc..

The Order of my Watercooling loop is:
Pump -> Reservoir -> Radiator -> Block.

I had Pumb/Reservoir all in one (Laing DC), 1 year ago, so now with Swiftech MCP655, i didn't make any changes. The Order is the same, as i describe above.

As i know, loop order, does not matter.

Edit: I set the Pump at 4.5 and i have 3-5C drop...

The pump is pushing water into the reservoir?

Yes. Is this bad? If it is bad, why?

Yes because you are having a loss of pressure within the reservoir. It should like like this...

pump > block > radiator > res

pump > radiator > block > res

Yes, i know that. Is very big problem the order i have?

I will change it, when i buy new block, with the new CPU (i7).

In my circuit i don't have air! All the circuit is full with water 99.9%!!!
No bubbles in my Reservoir!

I would change it, the way your block is getting fed water is just from gravity at this point rather than have the pump push it through.

Your CPU block, the piece of copper is not made to deal with the higer heatloads of your chip. It's basically not able to transfer the heat to the water well enough. Or your mount on the CPU is REALLY bad. Pure physics has changed the modern waterblock due to our higher heatloads. Even my first WC block 3 years ago had 5 times the area to absorb the heat, and I only had a E6600, much cooler than your CPU.

You have for example 1 inch of heat gathering area in the block. A modern CPU block has 10 inches of gathering due to micro channels and/or micro pins.

Your old block is...old.

Is the worst of all, the loop order, or the block?

Its your loop order.
These are just some relative numbers here..
You should see a huge decrease in temps (like 20 deg C) by changing the loop order.
Upgrading the block might get you 3-5 deg C max,
lapping the heatspreader might be 1-2 deg C.

About new block for s775 and s1366?

I really doubt you'd see anywhere near 20°C drop by switching the flow order, I'd put it close to 5°-8°C, changing to a newer block could net another 5°-7°C.

Ek-supreme HF with #1 plate is the best and fits both.

In Greece i can't find shop...

I didn't remember my loop order.

My Loop was with the right order aka, tank > pump > CPU > Radiator >>>> tank.

My Temps on Full Load:

Under Full Load Prime95 the temps are about 3~4C higher than OCCT.

The bad thing is that under linkpack (Intel Burn Test / maximum stress) the temps are insane!

I'm still running my Q6600 at 3.6 1.44V, depending on ambients OCCT hits 40-45C...Linpack is pretty extreme.

But...if you complete that succesfully, don't worry about it...call it success. I personally think OCCT is more than stressful enough for my uses. About the hardest thing I do is render HD video for 20 minutes and it's at most taxing 80% or so. Linpack is nuts stressfull..:D

Yeah, I got pretty lucky with this chip (Quad rad doesn't hurt either), ran quite a bit cooler than my E6600 did.

Of coarse now that it's winter with a wood stove, I see ambients fluctuate anywhere from 60F-80F depending on how much I let my wife roast me out..

Right now there is about 4" of snow on the ground and I'm roasting in my shorts and tanktop in the house..:D

I would like to know temperatures from other set ups with Q6600 with a normal Watercooled Loop.

Ek Supreme looks very good waterblock!

I had a q6600 with a 4870 on a swiftech triple, I don't recall seeing it break 75c, even in summer. Had it @ 3.8, 1.46v. Idle low 40s, load high 60s.

Linpack load?

I run a q6600 @ 3.6ghz on a single 120.2 thermochill with a gtx 260 in the loop, idles at 44C, and loads at 65-68C. When the loop gets hot enough my 2nd 120.2 thermochill fans kick on, and temps at load drop to around 55-60C depending on the ambient. System is whisper quiet though with 2 fans on.

If it helps i have a q6600 on a TRUE @3.4GHz 1.4V and i reach 70C load with an ambient of around 26C or so.

With better block mounting, i have decrease temperature.
Now i have -5C @ Idle and -7C @ Full Load!

that still seems hot for linpack... mines at 1.58 in bios and shows 1.51 under load and it idles around 42 and peaks at 78 or so in linpack... then again its been a while...

So, with a better block i will decrease temps huh?
Next month i will buy swiftech xt!

Most of your problems come from the old block.
You'll be happy with the Swiftech XT
