just ordered a 1055T, and my mobo isnt supported, shopping time, want input

ok so shockingly the K9A2 CF which has a better chance of starting a fire than running any kind of OC, got support for X6 cpus, but the K9A2 Plat got nothing, (and checking bioses, the last one for my board was in september, and the CF had 3 since then, shocking how little they care about one of their best original 790FX boards)

so im looking for something that can hold 2 gpus, toggle turbo, and has decent controls for volts, and NB/HTT multis (my current board does not have independent multi control and it sucks with the NB is the limiting factor and i cant touch it)

also im gonna need some ram (2x2GB) something decent, no way do i need the best

budget is 150$ for the board, but cheaper is better
ram, 130$ limit, but again, cheaper is better

thanks for the help guys, i havnt been able to keep up with everything since i havnt had to buy a new board for years, and looks like i have to get something now, and hopefully something i can drop a BD into later

This should be good.
I've seen couple of nice OC on that mobo already, so this shouldn't be an issue.
1600MHz RAM would be better to feed 6 cores, but there is a chance you can squeeze some more of that OCZ kit.

thanks, for the price they are incredible, i know alot of ram can be pushed alot with a slight voltage increase.

btw what does happen if my motherboard dosnt support it, do i just have to set the frequency manually, or will it flat out not work?

Now THAT is a good deal for ram.

I'd be curious to buy that just because it's only a slight jump in price and you really won't have issues in the future if you need something faster than 1600. :up:

This is good news, BUT I don't know what the max bus speed is on this mobo (I can only get 250mhz stable) and if it won't even approach 285 b/c it we are both mobo limited, x6 will not be a good chip for us and moving to 890fx is more realistic.

it almost sounds like a generalized answer, ive seen 2 people ask on their forum and both just said, sorry nope. never mention of future support, or listing that board directly

when u sent the question, was it directly in regard to the Plat? or just for generalized support? and how long ago did you ask?

check g.skill flare.. i dont know if it gets fast in stock enough :(

Every DIMM has several SPD timings and frequency tables written to it. So for instance 2GHz module will have:
1. 2000MHz 9-9-9 1.6V
2. 1833MHz 9-9-9 1.5V
3. 1600MHz 8-8-8 1.5V
4. 1333MHz 7-7-7 1.5V

If your mobo/CPU officially supports only 1333MHz DDR3 (most CPU's on market from both Intel and AMD) then that value will be used as default. Better motherboards will try and look for highest supported timing/voltage combination. All in all this means it should boot even on motherboards with only DDR3 1333MHz support.

Flair has an awesome heatsink. :up:

The Eco are nice too, although I don't really know how much power they safe in the real world. The silver heatsink is a nice change as well.

i used to have issues with my board hitting 250. turns out if i turn it from trfc 90 to 110 it helps alot. plus run ur ht voltage up at like 1.275ish. currently running 290 fsb on a 50$ board. i could run 300 ( max in bios btw ) but my ram don't like it too much. but that's fine.

wow they really are getting 1000mhz at 1.65v, thats impressive enough right there.

however its at 2t, how bad is that for DDR3?

so heres the pros and cons, if i keep my current motherboard, i have ddr2 using up more power for probably +30% performance loss (on the ram, not sure about real life) and i dont know if i will be able to access those extra multipliers up to x16, so ill be stuck at x14 (which i dont think will be a very big deal since i should be ok with 3.6ghz base, and turbo around 4.2)

2t is more or less a restriction on the cpu's imc. u probably can run 1t with no issues, unless the imc is weak and u have all 4 dimms populated then u might have to run 2t ...

yeah the simple rule is 4 dimms means 2t, 2 dimms is 1t, but im not sure how much of a perf hit comes with that. im kinda stuck right now, my first 2 sticks i bough in early 08, 1GB each, so then i bought 2 more for 35$ (freaking awesome, lol) so i have 4GB, but with 2t timings, and i think that might only loose 5-10% of the everest memory benchmark test

does anyone still know what i can expect if i try to put the 1055T into my motherboard, even though it supports C3 chips, but not X6 chips? its due to arrive tomorrow, so i will find out, but id rather have an idea before i force it in

well theres a 50/50 chance it will work... either it will or it wont :p:

It may boot and you'd have to manually set the voltages/settings etc... or it wont boot :P.

im running four dimm at 1t :p: maybe im lucky :D im also running 90ns instead of 110.

maybe I should run everest benchmark?


with recent memory purchase I jumped largely from 2g to 8gb :) huuge difference especially when I run several adobe apps.

I extracted the CPU patch data from the 790FX-GD70 and added it to the K9A2 Platinum 1.9 BIOS:

Don't know for sure, though I only added data to it, so I would think so.
I used MMTool to do it.

As to why MSI hasn't done it yet? I don't know. Maybe they just want you to upgrade?

well sofar using bios 1.9 on the k9a2 plat for a 1055T lets you get into the bios, but letting it load after that only shows a blinking cursor on a black screen and nothing happens

interestingly enough, i had access to multiples up to 16.5x.

i might try the flash, but i havnt done that the right way in so freaking long, and i dont have a floppy, or blank cds, and i lost my thumb drive

I keep an external hard drive with a 2GB FAT32 partition and FreeDOS installed on it for BIOS flashing.

I had this board before and I could reach 320 HT stable on my Phenom II x4 920 :) It's a damn good board, and I would say the best 790FX from the initial wave of 790FX-boards.

I currently have a 1055t running on my K9A2 Platinum with full support. I contacted MSI support and they provided me this link to beta bios 1B1.

Beta Bios 1B1 for MSI K9A2 Platinum (this link does not work in chrome as it removes the username and password)

I modified the bios with SLIC 1.3.1 Tool successfully before flashing it and have a fully activated copy of windows.

since you moded the bios with SLIC, does that mean I can also use SLI on my motherboard?

Personally I like the Asrock 890GX Extreme3. Its actually a pretty solid board with average OCs on the FSB between 300-320MHz. Bit of a dark horse board for sure.
