Funniest thing happaened with prime95 today

Speaking of prime.......

I never ran it on W7 64bit so this morning I was curious about what my temps might be with all the talk and if any different than on 32bit Vista so I started it up and looked at the temp after a minute it was about 46c......so I clicked it and thought I shut it off. so Im surfing and doing stuff, picked up the kids from school, watched TV........I then start up BFBC2 2 1/2 hours later to play.

WTF Im getting like 70-80fps instead of my usual 110-130fps. I check my cards clocks they ok......check crossfire to make sure both gpu's are running. Alls well.

I open up task manager and WTF 100% cpu usage:ROTF:

primes been running for 2.5 hours unintentionally at 4ghz cpu/2.8ghz NB 64bit 50c 1.57v

I almost rolled out of my chair......you dont know how much I dont like prime.:p: now I just wasted 3 days of electric in 2.5hours:ROTF:

So heres the deal.......it will be about 6 hours of prime and out of the 6 the last hour will be both prime and coredamage running at the same time ambiant water temps 53c load with both running.......and it will be on video, so theres no question that it just took place.

So for those people that think the reason some of us dont like prime is because we cant get our systems 100% stable or we just get little errors here and there.......its not, we just dont like prime. understand?

Now for those that just live by prime.........can you prime and run coredamage? Now I can say your system is not stable until you run 6 hours of prime and then add 1 hour of coredamage on top of that at the same time.......how does it feel knowing your system isnt really stable:ROTF:

Titan7171 very similar thing happened to me once,only it was OCCT running in the background XD . I was shocked to see the thing managed to ran all night long without an error,but temps were 60C+ :shock: (Its my Agena @ 3.1Ghz :D,it's a little power hungry viper isn't she :D).

Im changing it to 5 hours total 4 fours of prime plus the 5th hour will be both running at the same time.......I cant do anything on the computer it takes like 8 minutes to close IE and I want to play BFBC2......and I cant do that on this laptop.

I hate cpu stability testing it eats all the cpu cycles.

Titan7171, Prime always stays running when you just hit the "X":p: You have to click "stop" under "test" ( I believe). But, nice stable test there.;)

I remember some people saying I wouldnt get 4.2ghz stable for 24/7 also even before these 125w were released:cool:

I just dont really want to hear crap about stability.......I work to hard and tested this system to much for someone who doesnt really know the deal to tell me that my system isnt stable and I get little errors here and there, I dont think so.......thats really the point here.:yepp:

Thats sick.....I couldnt do it. When I play games I want the cpu to game 100% I dont want it busy doing other stuff so I dont think Id be able to do that.

The bios is set at 1.57v.........the mobo overvolts because in windows I show 1.58v idle..........but with prime running it actually jumped up to 1.6-1.63v and went back and forth for the whole time, especially when I threw on coredamage.

you could get 4.0 stable w/ less vcore for sure :p: prolly around 1.5v. i guessing 4.1ghz could stable w/ those volts you have now

I know you have UBER cooling (better than mine!), but I agree with the other guys, you could probably lower that Vcore quite a bit....

My chip actually gets more squirley when I get my Vcore over 1.525.
I've been playing with these long enough to know that all hardware has it's own likes/dislikes, but I actually think you might be able to do a little better if you dropped it down a little.. :p:

I could be wrong, but it might be something to play with... ;)

It was funny because........I had one of those "what now?" moments. I was already blaming the 5970 and thinking how the 30 day return policy had just ended yesterday and at the same time saying "I new I should have sent it back waited for the 4gb to be released".........all this in my head in like a millesecond:p:

Im gonna do some more testing tonight since the watercooling can handle that voltage......I just never touched it because theres no heat, as I look now im idle at 32c.......and you saw my 100% load at 53c at windows 1.6v. Its definitely too high, I think you are right at 1.5v thats where Ill start for 4ghz:up:

Im not gonna go higher because between 64bit and BFBC2 being sensitive about cpu clocks its just to much hassle to bsod in the middle of a game. 100-200mhz is not making a difference at 110-130fps.

You and crazyDiamond are right......but like I said above just never bothered to lower the voltage because of the cooling being so good. will do tonight lets see what happens:up:

Well my 555 is pretty darn stable at 4GHz w/ 1.408v.....but NB is only running @ 2.6GHz. If I run the NB @ 2.8GHz, I have increase my vcore to 1.47v. Quite a jump.

my "sh*t" C3 is 3970 MHz stable with 1.488V, buts diferent a bit up, i tested not more, than i tested only LiNX, and never can broken limit 4032MHz(i must set 1.532V). Higher Vocre than helped me.

some crazy man, who can run Prime 95+LinX together? :D

A real challenge though now that I think of it is

all at the same time

I do have a 140w 965 sitting here in case of emergency:D

I really thought I had my rig stable, and it was for everything except P95... :cool:

Since then, I've been tweaking again and I still don't see any improvement from raising Vcore over 1.525...

I always knew this chip had a pretty weak IMC and I still haven't quite figured out where the problem lies, but it's either the IMC or the Ram.
The cores will do 4.1Ghz+ @ 1.525v no problem (slight advantage of Air vs Water I'm sure)... Core temps never go over 49c.

Anyway, I dropped the HTRef (lowering the IMC and Ram) and raised the CPU multiplier and this is where I'm at right now FWIW.... :rolleyes:

its a no go for me at 4 ghz 1.5v I got a bsod........Im running 2.8ghz nb though and I wont lower it to be able to use lower volts on the cpu if thats the reason.

You cant compare voltages with me because you are droping the nb the higher you oc the cpu. Can you do the same with your nb at 2.8ghz?? let me know if it effects the amount of voltage it takes for the cpu to run prime at 4ghz.

Im not gonna drop the nb 800mhz just to run prime at 100mhz higher. The point of of me showing these results was that my system is stable at my 24/7 setting which is 4ghz cpu 2.8ghz NB on 64bit os. Through all my testing since my 140w 965 my NB stays at 2.8ghz.......Unless Im going for suicide runs and trying to get that last mhz out of it ill drop it to 2.6 and up the bus.

Im gonna try 1.53v to see if it will run prime like that...

Dunno about prime and memtest, as long as the rig finished 3D bench up to screen shot and validation then its stable:D

Well with my 965 c3 dose not like volts at all it run prime 95 at 1.4375v for 4ghz . Under load running prime the CPU_vcore will jump up to 1.52v in AOD . The chip will do 4.1 i have not try prime for that yet . When the volts are set to any thing over 1.475v and i try to clock over to 4.2 CPU tells me to F-off and died i'am not going to do that. I found that my chip IMC is better with DDR2 that DDR3 . With the DDR2 i can run 2800NB but with DDR3 it only like 2600NB this is all using vista -64 bite and my water cooling is all inside
my case (so if a want to move my rig any ware i can) .

I can game on my 550BE MCE rig in the living room;) I still browse the web etc. No issues. I am dieing to get a Phenom II x6 in this thing and cruch, loved to se how it does.

hey titan, my 4.0-4.046-4.1 runs are all w/ 2600mhz nb, i cant get my imc blend stable w 2800mhz. i put a wrong screen up for 4.1, it should be 1.52vcore w/ 2600mhz nb. i took nb down for 4.2 run because i just wanted to see what it needed for cpu only. i have a screen of hour of occt passed w/ 4050mhz cpu, 2700mhz nb but i dont think it stresses imc as much as blend.

hehe zues, idk if you were talking to me or not about prime for pleasure :D but i actually like doing a lot of prime because frankly i mostly use my cpus for everyday use, im not trying to break any records or anything. you learn a ton about the specific chip when you doing that much priming :p:

have you ever been able to use 2.8ghz NB ?? even for everyday use??.

I use 1.45v for 2.8ghz NB (ive tested from 1.2-1.55v(1.55v good for 3ghz nb but not stable enough for me to do daily things without a few rboots during the day) and 1.45v is the spot for 2.8ghz NB).......even if I drop it to 1.4v I will get bsod or reboots.But I stress, this is M3a79-T and Im not sure if the mobo effects the IMC? or if newer mobos using ddr3 are more efficient at utilizing the IMC?Who knows how much better this cpu might do on a ddr3...its only been using the (not sure how it works?) ddr2 memory controller .Ive been doing this even with my 140w 965. Not sure if you would like to give it a try(1.45v) if you havent already?

for my x4 965 is too not 2.8GHz NB so hard...+0.3V its oK, for harder benchmarks +0.175V only. But i cant boot with 3100MHz

Wow, that is quite some volts you guys push through your CPU-NB. My current 955BE C3 does 2.8GHz Prime blend stable with 1.23V. My 965BE C3 on the other hand does 2.6Ghz at 1.17V but refuses to do anything over 2.7GHz Prime blend stable no matter what voltage i shove down it's sorry bum.

My old 955BE C2 did 2.8GHz at a mere 1.28V and so did my old 940BE which leads me to believe the CPU-NB doesn't scale well with volts on these denebs but CPU-NB scales very well with cold.

Now let's hope 3GHz CPU-NB on the Thuban cpu's will be as easy as 2.8GHz on these denebs.

Zeus, i hope too, MAD got 3100MHz with air for benchmarks

I have tried so many times to lower the nb volts and its always a fail for me. I think its the motherboard because it happened with both the 140w and the 125w 965.

Ive read that this mobo is a power hog so who knows what actual volts is reaching the cpunb......I could be sending 1.45v at the nb.......but only 1.3-1.35v is reaching it? thats my theory anyway


BTW I ended up finishing that prime testin 6 hours at 1.55v which at 100% load rose to 1.58v which is only .02 of the 1.57v I originally use that pulls 1.6v at 100% load
