I just received these in an email that self destructed after i opened it and saved the pictures :para: :lol:
how much will the 960T cost? the hexa cores will be cheap already, so the savings wont be huge i guess...
still, 2 extra cores for free is 2 extra cores for free... :D
i still cant imagine why somebody would want 6 cores... but for those of you who do, this sounds like good news :)

Ha, remind me of the Phenom X2 550 BE can be unlocked for another 2 extra cores, AMD really has lot of tricks up its sleeve. :D

wow that was fast. i wonder how stable these "extra" cores are. i mean they just started producing these and i cant image demand being so high for these that they have to lock the 2 cores out and sell them as quad-cores like with the phenom II x2's. if anything, it seems the demands for the x6 are much higher so they would try to pass as many x6 as possible than lock out them out and sell them as x4s.

The 550BE/555BE were pretty much stable across the board, so I'd say chances are high.
Someone got ideas about price ? 160-180$ ?
I wouldn't count in this lasting to long or being that consistent. I bought a x2 550 BE in hopes of unlocking another core with a biostar MB, anything besides stock or raised clock lead to the system not booting and require a bios reset.
statistically it seemed to be like a 60-70% chance of working

asus official reply was that despite selling it as an enthusiast board and advertising its overclocking features, its actually not meant for overclocking at all, and if people run above stock vcore and the board dies thats their own fault and... just too bad...
iirc they took forever rmaing boards and refused to give people their money back as well when some of them tried because they wanted to get another board instead.
that has been quite a pr disaster for asus here at xs... but like i said, i think if anything their pr/support is to blame... sht happens, you cant prevent any and all bugs and problems, but you need to fix them and take care of them properly...
back then there was no other highend dual socket board that could overclock, but now there is one from evga, and they offer great support...
so i dont think any of the guys from the dc section will be getting an asus board again anytime soon :D
asus def needs to make sure they dont make the same mistake again... and they should overhaul their customer support, evga really has set the bar at customer support quite high...
