hey, 6 mins and no reply..
You guys are slipping!
I thought you were so awesome you could construct your own?
Or how bout a bunch of pennies?
mounting holes measurement ?
pennies are a zinc not copper though.
I found one.

look the same as socket F :/
Nice 0_0
I`ve been waiting for this thread !!! :woot: :woot: :woot:
Read this first MM: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=magny-cours
It has OC info too :) And this video goes through what a Magny-Cours rig should look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNrBavjByfw
As you will notice, they are using 1200W Thermaltake PSU for two 12-core processors, but you will probably not need more than a good 750 Watter as it is only two of them and their TDP is relatively low, especially the 1.9Ghz ones.
As for PPD, you are looking at about 57K PPD at stock and about 72K PPD at 2.4Ghz.
Perkam
when ever you find them... we have to see results you know ;)
Keep us posted.
kk. Each processor has Quad memory channels, meaning it will require at least 4 dimms per processor, meaning you will need to use a minimum of 8 DIMMs for the entire rig or 16 DIMMS (8 in each one) as maximum as you cannot use 9 (it has to be in multiples of two).
For HSF, Dynatron is currently the only one with released AMD G34 Socket Heatsinks: http://www.dynatron-corp.com/en/prod...st.aspx?cv=1-3
Here are a few on sale:

@Cirons...MM is not like us mortal men, he is not limited by trivial issues like Newegg availability  :rotf:
Perkam
O)k, I like that dynatron A6:
http://www.dynatron-corp.com/en/prod...-3&id=214&in=0
Same design as the Dynatron H46G that I modded to take 80mm Vantec tornadoes. 77x77mm, easy mod and the Vantecs cool my Harpers at 3750 so they should easily cool the MC's..
Board is a different thing, I emailed the manufacturer for one.:D
I tried looking for the A6 MM, but couldnt find any.
There might be some out by the time you get your board, but right now it looks like you will have to stick with the A5s :S
Here is an alternative to the A5 that seems to have a thicker copper base: http://cooljagusa.com/productshow.asp?id=232 but you will have to call them for availability.
Perkam
Almost 5 hours and no results.
MM, you are slipping
Bleh you got away with no Xtreme cooling on the gainestown's........I have a plan this time though :fact:
:hrhr:
Googlemaps ftw.......you can run but you can't hide.

:hrhr:
whau, this is great system...im expect a light overclock :D and wprime WR for "desktop".
Best thread since Fermi Launch! :D
MM I can't wait for your board to come in! After you will have some fun with new RIG please let *chew in just for one day :)
What wrong can he do to your system in just one day?? :ROTF:
As in kind of related to the thread.Do we have any hard info on chipsets for these new G34 / C32 ? How similar are they to the 890FX ? Maybe its even the same die`s just diff branding. If it was, it should be possible to do some software OC.
Subscribing to this thread! Way to go Dave. Nice chips.
BTW....Forgot to add this yesterday, FERMI, FERMI, FERMI......LOL....just kidding.
This is just a measly 6600GT, imagine a dual socket system with no voltage options via bios :ROTF:
http://chew.ln2cooling.com/The_Laboratory/IMG_2285.JPG
is it there yet?
:slobber::slobber::slobber:
this could be fun :D
Movieman, still waiting...........impatiently.........
Until he has the Mobo, he can't actually start with any benches.
The purpose of this thread is not to share results, it is to share insight into what Dave might need for the rig, to overclock and so on.
Anyone with experience/knowledge of working with a 2P rig is more than welcome to post :)
Perkam
Yeah true, but he keeps showing off his shiny new processor, look at his avatar, it's saying, "Hey guys look at what I have, sucks for you!" :(, LMAO
Oh yea! Let the WR's fall! Definitely watching this thread for more info :D
Yesterday I read your comments and thought you were trying to bust my balls but I let it slide because I wasn't 100% sure. Now I am.
If you knew me better you'd eat those words above as that isn't me.
It's my way of saying Thanks to AMD for the cpu's.
I do admit I like the new hardware from all the companies but God's truth, it isn't as you see it.
That's just not me and it bothers me that you saw it that way.
Seeing this thing in your finger tips, the processor BEGS to be watercooled... or chilled liquid. Anything less just isn't doing that processor justice. Any idea what the TDP of that thing is? You might get to crunching.
Those chips are things of beauty MM... :D
Can't wait to see some results!
I'm really kind of surprised Particle hasn't chimed into this thread yet.
If anyone has skills with a 2p system and overclocking it would probably be him. You may want to shoot him a PM and see if he could offer any tips...
I'm sure it's not easy clocking server chips, but he's had alot of experience with a 2p Istanbul rig.
You may want to shoot him a PM.
L8r..... Dave
Yes MM, I have lots of dry humor. Sorry if I didn't come across as a jackass who's trying to stir up humor ;).
@chew*: are you the American version of Hipro5 or maybe the Francois Pied counterpart.. you rock man..
@MM: I won't comment on this ( NICE BUILD on the way.. *hint* let that crazy dude got to your home and make that CPU scream)
I got it! Slap a Slot A cooler on that thing! lol
new xs banner is mm falling asleep waiting for the mobo. :p::p::p:
That's crazy, Movieman. Are there any other suppliers?
This for new logo when you finally get your manly dualie... :yepp:

Shouldn't Supermicro have a board ready? Afaik AMD has been shipping Magny-Cours since January to "close partners" so there has to be boards out there...
Doesnt Alpenföhn Nordwand, aka Spire TherMax Eclipse II (aka many others) have one of the largest bases on the market at the time?

Oh yea, they exist until you go to buy one.
I'm hearing there is a huge demand for the boards and the "big" accounts are being taken care of first..
I'll get one, just a matter of time.
I could call Dave Graham and probably get a Tyan but you know me, I want a Supermicro board..:D
@MM
so how long do you think it will be until you are able to get ahold of a mobo? Im itching to get a 4P 6168 system put together and am also having a hard time getting my digets on a motherboard and heatsinks.
Do you think the supermicro (H8QGi-F for me)will be the best hardware for a software OC or have you heard of any other more OC friendly mobo's comming out soon?
Right now you know as much as I do.
Your looking at the single socket G34, I'm looking at the dual:
http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/moth...x0/H8DGU-F.cfm
As to OC your guess is as good as mine but I do know that SM generally has no hard line stipulations against OC'ing on single socket boards like they do on the duals..
I don't want to bug them too much.
With both Intel and AMD rolling out new platforms at the same time I imagine they are up to their necks trying to keep up.
I looking to get a 4P...quad processor (48core) system. The work im doing requires as many processors as my meager wallet can get a hold of...last place i worked i used a 5500core cluster.
Ill keep my eyes open for heatsinks...i might just cad/cnc an adaptor if i can find a good heatsink with a big enough footprint to cover the CPU but not run into any of the memory etc.
Your meager wallet is going to be meager empty building that system.
4-6168's is app $3000.00
Board? Generally quad socket starts at a grand and goes up, key word is up
And then a MINIMUM of 4x1 gig per socket, thats $1600.00
Then the 1000-1200w PSU..$380-$550
And those quad boards are SWTX protocol,13x17".. Not manycases for them..
Your at least at $6000.00 with still case and drives to add but good luck.
Meager being relative...the place i used to work spent the better part of $10million on the cluster. a $6K personal investment feels relatively small but yes its still alot of money for me.
Ive already got the case/powersupplys/etc and 48gb of memory. I just need the processors, motherboard and heatsinks.
http://www.supermicro.com/products/c...48TQ-R1200.cfm
Are there any good heatsinks out there that already have a large enough footprint to cover the heatspreader but dont fit the G34 bolt pattern?
still no coolers even the one's on newegg don't come with a heat sink....
Dave is this OK ( out of interest, not that I am willing or can pay it)? not considering shipping:
opty 8 cores: $266 IIRC x 4 : around 1100 bucks
Smicro mobo: a tad under $900
memos: 12 gigs: a tad under <500
questions:a 300 bucks psu ( the hx1000w is 230 ) will power this, right? memos are out of proportion if "only" using 12 gigs taking the amount of cores as a reference, right?
Movieman, your my hero!
I hope that when I suffer from old and have to wear diapers that I can be as much win as you!
Keep rocking old man...Keep rocking, but don't rock too hard you might break a hip
lol mm.. ur crazy dude
what would be the power needed for a 4 sockets x 8 core config with 64 gb of ram approx?
thanks
I came across this:
http://www.8anet.com/ShowProduct.aspx?pid=7948
But haven't purchased anything from this company, anyone have any experience with them?
"I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbe.. err Quad socket G34!"
is this up and running yet ?
MM, any luck yet? Newegg has some more mangy-cours stuff now.
How about you just run LN2 24/7?
You shouldn't have any trouble getting a heatsink to work if you won't mind rigging up some custom brackets.
I am also working on the following system:
4x Opteron 6174 - delivered
Supermicro H8QG6-F - ETA 5/7
16x DDR3 - delivered
4x Dynatron A6 - delivered
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 950 w/ Custom harness - ETA 5/20
Quadro FX4500 I have lying around
Still deciding on the drives, will probably just throw in some old Seagate 7200.12's I have around to start.
MountainMods is going to make a custom tray to mount this in one of their units. I have not, however, been able to get specifications from SuperMicro without signing a CDA. I may just wait and measure it when it arrives.
Just arrived:
http://files.me.com/dougmeyer/kqlei6
nice beaker, do you have a mobo yet?
Look what the stork just dropped off...this thing is huuuge....
http://files.me.com/dougmeyer/453q2l
nice beaker can't wait
the dual sockets are 12 x 13"
I just found the for those quad socket boards
Form Factor SWTX
Dimensions 16.48" x 13" (41.9cm x 33.0cm)
Jeebers. How much did that system cost?
im looking for some test. Magny, ufff!
