Walton Chaintech Apogee GT 1866 CL9 1.5V Testing!

The memory eating bug received another interesting DDR3 Triple Channel memory kit today ( thanks Olivia & Steven ! ), the Apogee GT DDR3-1866 CL9 1.5V 6GB memory kit from Walton Chaintech.
I'm pretty sure that I'll find some Elpida Hyper chips when I open them up, but that will have to wait a bit ( gotta get a hair dryer :p: ).
I'm planning to try out a few 5870s tomorrow on dry ice to see what they can do, and the 3 red slots on my eVGA X58 Classified are more than happy to offer a nice accommodation to the new girlies in town :p:

Alright, I'll leave you with a... cr*ppy picture that I shot with my HTC Touch HD in a badly... lighted room for now and I'll come back later on today with a few quick tests.

Yeah you remember everything correctly.
They used to be called just "Chaintech" since the Pentium era.
I don't know where the Walton came from, but I can ask.
I imagine it's from a merge or something like that.
Fortunately it was Walton and not Dalton, can you imagine "Dalton Chaintech" ? :p:

As for the chips... my gut seems to be wrong this time ( well, partially since I didn't test them at all before making a guess ).
I just opened them, and this is what I saw:

the dot in bottom left corner usually suggests Elpida or Micron. Based on chips we see on other brands - they're eithe BBSE or D9KPT

glad to see that Walton decided not to fool everyone by putting Hypers in samples kit and BBSE/KPT in retail :rolleyes:

mhhh from the die marker and position of the batch/product code... and the font... my guess is... samsung?
could be micron as well though...

may ask for their RRP Price - expensive :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: = hyper hehe

or the same stuff that Gskill ECO modules use ?

BTW maybe G.Skill 2200C7 has higher bin I don't know...
but this kit can do 7-9-7-24 2000Mhz 1T using ultra low voltage (1.45v) and pass all tests easily. You can give it a shot~
And, Setting MCH Strap to 1600Mhz should allow 2:10 multi to work properly~ FYI

It's Powerchip produced in Elpida's technology, it is very likely that they are BBSE

I can't wait to see what numbers these sticks will put up, especially with tight timings like 6-6-6.

1.56Vdimm looks ok for that frequency.

Finally in full throttle to get the review done, I decided to start with some initial/basic overclocking tests:

CAS Latency ( tCL ) testing:
tCL 6 - DDR3-1765 +/- 10-15MHz
tCL 7 - DDR3-2070 +/- 10-15MHz

RAS to CAS Delay ( tRCD ) testing:
tRCD 6 - DDR3-1385 +/- 10-15MHz
tRCD 7 - DDR3-1530 +/- 10-15MHz
tRCD 8 - DDR3-1815 +/- 10-15MHz
tRCD 9 - DDR3-2050 +/- 10-15MHz

RAS Precharge ( tRP ) testing:
tRP 5 - DDR3-1620 +/- 10-15MHz
tRP 6 - DDR3-2005 +/- 10-15MHz
tRP 7 - DDR3-2090 +/- 10-15MHz

797 sounds like a perfect match timing wise... :)

I have the same kit here. Didn't have time to play with them yet, with Gulftown, Fermi and Cebit this last month, but from what I have seen so far, they are PSC (maybe with Samsung design), low volts, GSkill type IC's. My colleague Poparamiro had a short play with them, and they go something like this (check out the vDDR). I will play with them a little bit later this month.
