New premium delrin single bay reservoir.

Hola--

Just posting some early pictures of my new Split Window reservoir design.

The body is machined from a solid piece of delrin/acetal/pom and the face plate is a billet style machined from 1/4" thick aluminum.

It comes in a single tank and a dual tank model for guys wanting to run two discrete loops from the same reservoir.

There is a machined in light bar that uses four UV LED's to light the fluid without showing the light source.

4 rear ports, two top ports, and optional front window mounted front ports.

Initially available in 8 body colors (counting black and white) and black and silver brushed anodized face plates. There will be more face plate colors like purple, blue, red, gold etc coming out shortly.

No idea on price yet but it will be reasonable for a premium quality machined delrin and aluminum up market part like this. Shipping to resellers next week I am told.

Not sure what you mean...this one is just a single bay reservoir...no pump. It comes in a single tank with four rear ports or a twin or dual tank where each tank has two rear ports. If you mean will the T3 version work upright...I don't see why not.

This one is a single bay rez only (no pump) that comes in a single or dual tank version. There IS a D5 equipped dual bay version also and I have a DDC version on the bench but have not sold that design yet. Do not have a pic of the front ports yet sorry...soon.

The bodies are solid delrin so I don't think there will be a clear, unless you mean the front window. Price will not be "cheap" as this sucker is HEAVY duty--machined from a solid block of delrin with a machined aluminum face plate. That said I don't think they will be stupid expensive either.

Yeah I meant the window, don't care much what color the actual res is. Hard to tell in the pics of the window is clear or blue tint.

Yeah, but I don't have drive bays and I want to tilt this thing up. The rear would be pointed down while the top is facing up. I don't mean the T3 version.

DOH...I was so busy trying to make a polite answer (I thought clear delrin? what a tard :rofl:) that it never even occurred to me you meant the front window lol. Yeah, sorry--they come with clear windows stock, though they will be selling UV and tints separately, as well as custom etched.

No idea on the official date, but its pretty soon as they have ordered production on the parts and are just sourcing the screws and other bits to go in the box. My unofficial guess is 2 weeks soonest, 3 weeks outside. Guess is the key word there. I have one here though and I can tell you its pretty pimp.

There are also two matching D5 pumps that are pretty sexy also due out in that time frame. The matching 20 LED driver as well as a small foot print delrin fill/drain port is also shipping this week. I even did a design for a simple funnel with g1/4 threads that also works as funky case feet lol.

I guess as long as it was high enough in your case for the loops exiting out the arse end to make any needed bends you would be fine. I am a SFF guy at heart as you know so I made it as short as I could get away with front to back.

Not sure how you would physically mount it...would need some sort of bracket but nothing beyond your abilities for sure.

Faceplate screws, port plugs, and the aluminum top cover over the light bar bay are all black.

Since I have to go to Federal Law Enforcement Training for a month in about 2 weeks...why not just sell me that black faced one right there so I can get it set up before leaving? I'll even put in my own window :p:

So does the incoming delerin version of the T3 have the same hidden light source and nifty faceplate or is it going to be a conventional T3 with some parts made out of delerin?

It will be a new design in that it will not use any parts (beyond maybe screws, fittings, or O rings etc.) from the the original injection molded T3.

The original will still be sold as the value line or standard T3 and the delrin version will be the Premium version. It shares materials and front styling cues found on the split window--body machined from a solid block of delrin, face plate machined from aluminum. The port configuration on the back will be like it is on the regular T3--2 in 2 out, but there will be a top fill port standard and the front ports will be optional.

The pump will be held in place with a machined aluminum compression ring (threaded) with diamond knurling in place of the four screws on the standard T3.

I designed some pretty cool metal compression fittings, and Charles from Murder Mods fame has given me his blessing to modify (minor tweaks to aid in manufacturing) a compression fitting design he executed several months back for production...at some point, if not initially, one or the other will likely come standard with the T3 Premium. It all depends on how soon those enter production...choices Primo Chill will make, not me.

The pump internals, or geometry will be very similar to the standard with a few tweaks mostly for easing the machining process. Performance will be on par with the standard T3 or very slightly better--skewed towards strong performance in a parallel loop configuration.

I am not sure if Primo will include a light bar option as there is a LOT of additional machining required for the cavity/pocket the light bar sits in, a machined aluminum cover, and the light bar itself--all of which will/would add a lot to the price which is already going to be up there in the $100 plus range if I had to guess--remember this is a big arse block of machined delrin and a pretty big chunk of aluminum that will both take a lot of machine time. A very high quality, durable/heavy duty part for sure, but one aimed squarely at a very small segment of water coolers using top shelf parts and likely only carried by the bigger resellers or smaller shops that cater to higher end modders.

As an example, there will be a "full conversion" option that includes a machined aluminum motor cover for the D5, and an option to have a custom face plate machined to the users personal design for total build/theme integration. What I would LOVE to see as the designer is a high end boutique builder like Origin install T3 premiums in their water cooled builds that feature a custom "Origin only" color of delrin and a machined face plate with an original Origin design. The exceptional performance of the T3 parallel loop design with some delrin and aluminum loving in a well executed top end build married to Origin only design elements would really set their builds apart from the pack IMHO.

And oh yeah...I remembered the side slots this time for cases with training wheel tabs for optical bays :D

Primo has already purchased the D5 version and started production. It *should* drop in 2-3 weeks barring any little delays, sourcing the odd bits that go in the box etc. I think if the metal compression fittings are close to release by that time they may hold off and wait for those. If they are still like a month off then probably not as nobody likes sitting on inventory and tying up capital.

The DDC version of the design is still for sale though it would obviously need to be called something besides Typhoon as that's a Primo brand, and I would want to do something visually different with the face plate to further distinguish it from the T3. Not sure if it is OK to mention a design for sale (if not thanks to the mods for policing my post) but anyone interested in the design should drop me a line as mama can always use a new pair of shoes =)

I agree on the dual tank. I have been running one for a year or so now and there is an advantage beyond performance that never occurred to me before I installed it--swapping components is a bit easier like a new CPu of video card. I swap parts in and out all the time so this is particularly useful for me.

I will post up some quick snaps of the two different tank configurations (single and dual tank) without face plates shortly so you guys can see how they are different.

On a Dual bay version, yes expect one shortly.

OK--Camera is at the shop and I am at home so I took a screen cap from Solid Works that shows the difference between the single and the dual tank variants.

On the single tank there is a partial divider to help trap air so it can be bled. On the dual tank the divider extends all the way creating discrete tanks. On the single there are four rear ports and on the dual these are divided 2 ports per tank.

I also asked Brian to get a few pictures of some of the other colors when he gets a chance and I will post those when/if if does.

The reason I ask is that I have a 5.25 res right now and the fill port was horridly designed. It not only fails at allowing the water to fill the res, it actually captures and traps air pockets.

Not sure if that helps, but both the left and the right fill ports are of the high point variety and have a small cavity to catch air that also allows for "topping off". I used two fill ports so that it doesn't matter if your case sits on the left or right of your display and for air release as your filling your loop so it is faster. Primo is now selling a 2" diameter machined delrin funnel that has G1/4 threads and an O ring that fit these reservoirs perfectly...put the funnel on one port and let air escape through the other as you fill the system.

There will also be ab optional window for these that has the front ports found on the standard T3 for those that have found out how easy front ports make system maintenance.

Bellow is an exploded view of the twin tank for those interested in the design. The front to back dimension (front face of the face plate to the back face of the main body) is a svelte 2.5" or 63.5mm

From the back/outside the units are identical--if that was a single tank then all four ports feed the reservoir and if it was a dual tank then the two on each side feed a separate reservoir.

Yes, all the plugs/fittings will be G1/4.

Man so many options!! I really love that red and black setup. I have been pretty happy with my T3, but I really want that delrin T3 in red. Not sure if I want the res only or the T3 version, decisions, decisions....

I hope the T3 comes in Red Too, it will make for a NICE looking setup. BG are you changing the look on the front of the T3?

At present, I have a mountain mods H2gO case. The 5.25 drive bays sit on the bottom of the case and the radiators (typically) and motherboard (so waterblock(s)) sit on the top half of the case.
What difficulty do you think there would be with filling this system up with the res, rads and blocks in their 'approximate' place?
The rads and block(s) would be sitting higher than the res, how much of an issue do you think it would be to fill the system?

I ask because I know there are other cases that have the 5.25 bays on the lower portion of the towers... so a bit curious on your thoughts.

Barring that, there is also a small foot print fill port in delrin that comes in matching colors available now. Also a delrin funnel with G1/4 threads. I made the fill/drain port as small as i could so it can be mounted in tight spaces and is not an eyesore on the outside of a case. Let's call it an auxiliary or remote fill/drain port in this instance so people understand it's not physically on the reservoir.

Using a remote location for a fill and a drain port is not exactly optimum as it is a little extra plumbing, but it does help get all the air out.

Thanks for the answer. With this case I can do some shifting and what not, but with an external rad in top back, it makes it a bit difficult, not impossible mind you, just a bit difficult.
I figured with the drive bays being lower than where the rads would sit would be a minor issue, but with most cases it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually, the delay in RMA's for the T3 was due to moving the molds from China to California, the California injection molding company altering the molds to fit their presses, trying different plastics, and testing parts. Primo COULD have gambled and sent out replacements with the Chinese parts but didn't.

As for "taking care of it" when they had something new to sell, the lead time for bringing a new part to market is a LONG time. I originally submitted the design for the Split Window over six months ago and the process was started--that was before the first T3's even hit the market. The delrin T3 design was started about a month after the designs for the Split Window reservoirs because of the machined aluminum faces--they have a much more distinctive (better IMHO) look then the standard T3 and the idea is to standardize the line of reservoirs.

There will be single bay Typhoon Split Window models in single and dual chamber, and dual bay Typhoon Split Window models also in a single and chamber. Then there will be the Typhoon III (T3) in a Split Window. There is also a 6th Typhoon model coming that mounts on the top or bottom of a case.

My point is that they did not just step up when they had another T3...the Delrin T3 is 2-4 weeks away. If it looks like that to you...nothing I can really say beyond the time line above. Even if you really do believe it was because of new parts...it's never too late to do the right thing. They could have made the Delrin model the Typhoon 4 and just said injection molding clear plastic is a bust, cut their losses and moved on rather then taking a bath moving production to the US. Consider how many of these split window reservoirs they have to sell to make back the 10 grand (my guess) they spent moving production to the US--even if they managed to net $15 each on the new Split Window they need to sell just over 650 units JUST TO BREAK EVEN...

Yeah, this is why I really LOVE the front ports concept on a bay mounted reservoir. In virtually every configuration you can imagine, the front ports are the highest point in the loop/s when the case is shifted onto its back, and the lowest point when shifter forward onto it's face/front. A best case scenario for filling and draining the loops COMPLETELY.

I have used T's for remote fill and drain legs before of course, and although the impact on loop performance is in reality minimal...some times you don't want the fill port out there marring the looks of a theme. That's why I designed mine as small/thin/unobtrusive as possible both on the top portion that shows outside the case, and on the inner fitting portion inside the case. I have used the DD fill ports for years and they are excellent parts, but they are just HUGE IMHO.

The hole for those is 1 inch if I remember right. Mine use a 3/4" hole as a reference to the size difference. I am not knocking the DD parts for the record--I have a build on the bench right now that uses 2 of them--just offering another option for builds that are space limited, or that need a different look, or for guys on a budget. I have been using DD parts for like 10 years and have rarely been unhappy.

My only disappointment with Brian and primochill is that they did not return my emails.
But apart from that, for whatever reasons he did not return my emails they have pulled through and I know I will be buying from them again.
Many other companies would have brushed this under the carpet and moved on but Brian did not.
I own my own business involved in construction and have met so many people and companies that have blamed bad workmanship on bad materials and ignored the customer complaints knowing all to well that most people will just move on.
Brian did not and for that I will be more than welcome to recommend primochill and Boxgods work to anyone.
Well done Brian for stepping up to the mark in a time were most people think good customer service has disappeared.

The design is very nice. However i don't like single bay res. They need to be full at all times and create vortexes.


A dual bay split res for dual loops would be great though!

I am sort of torn on the not answering emails thing. As a person who buys stuff I know I like to be kept informed etc..on the other hand, I know that dealing with large numbers of people (customers) is something I could never do...very likely the reason I am either designing something in Solidworks or in my shop tinkering. I agree with Db that he (Brian) just needs to hire a person, even part time, who handles community relations type stuff.

The differences in how people perceive customer support seems to be largely down to communication issues. Even if the objective result is that a poor communicating company delivers what it promised faster than a better communicating competitor, the good communication makes people feel better. Unfortunately, when times get busy, this sort of thing is easy to drop. But it's rarely worth it.

Anyway, I'm extremely happy this appears to have been sorted and am going to take full credit for the delrin T3. Why? I ordered a Technofront "Eagle" as an alternative as I was convinced that an improved T3 wouldn't appear. The next day . . . Good thing I could still cancel my order! Can't wait for these to hit the UK.

That's the purple, black, and orange. Also the new fill/bleed port and the funnel. The threads on the fill port are G1/4 foe those wanting to use a compression fitting though it is shown with a metal Ghost Barb.

It also looks like there was a small snag with the larger O ring for the single chamber so Primo will likely not be shipping inventory to resellers till about the 7th or so. :(

Quick question to get an opinion from you guys.

If I drew up an acrylic window/bracket that mounted to the aluminum face plate like the reservoirs do so that the face plates could be used as replacement bay covers identical to the face plate of the Split Window Reservoirs would anyone be interested? As a bay cover it would look just like the Split Window but without a reservoir bolted on of course. Like billeted bay covers with cool windows (they would have acrylic just like the rez). A lot of material and machining there so they would not be "cheap"...say $15 to $18 each MSRP.

Thoughts?

Not positive I understand unless you mean the top ports.

Internal volume (roughly as I am not on my work PC) is 4 cubic inches for each tank on the twin tank or about 65 cubic centimeters and the single tank version would be about double that so 8 cubic inches or 130 cubic centimeters.

In my mind (and I am POSITIVE some will disagree) reservoir volume is largely irrelevant until you get to fairly large (way larger then we have room for in a case) reservoirs.

Using the flow rate numbers from a T3--which for the sake of argument is twice that volume--it would exchange the volume in the single tank more then 30 times a minute. The reservoir material is delrin which is a fairly decent insulator so there would not be a lot of water to air heat exchange even with slower rates which is a good thing as bleeding heat into your case is counter productive.

To me the primary function of a reservoir in a water cooling loop is as an easy place to fill the system and to occasionally remove accumulated air by topping off. That's why I only made the split window deep enough to reach the forward mounting screws. That extra room is a big help for SFF guys and no mater how big your case is, extra room for managing your loop/s is a good thing.
