3DMark Vantage WR with Asus & Intel: P47002

Hi,

Asus and Intel invited stummerwinter and me to Stockholm, Sweden to test the upcoming Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard (not yet with final cooling solution).

Stummerwinter brought his amazing Core i7-975 Extreme Edition CPU with him and Asus had gathered 18 PCS of Asus Radeon HD 5870 VGAs to be tested. Corsair had sent very good set of Dominator GTX2 DDR3-2250 memory.

Test setup:

- Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition
- Asus Rampage III Extreme
- Corsair Dominator GTX2
- 4 x Asus Radeon HD 5870
- 1200W + 950W + 910W PSUs
- Windows 7 32-bit
- Catalyst 9.10 & 9.12
- F1 EE & Tek 9.0
- LN2 cooling on CPU & VGAs

First we benched with FM approved Catalyst 9.10 drivers:

Next we changed to Catalyst 9.12 drivers and started real testing. After two several hours sessions and just before stummerwinter and Christian had to leave to the airport we were able to pull amazing result of P47002 points:

Conclusion:

It was a very good bench session with great team work and a good learning curve during benching. Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard looks promising and results with pre-production board and BIOS are promising and efficiency is great.

I did some quick pretesting with 2 cards @ 1350/1345 MHz:

I tried 1400 MHz on GPUs once and it ran GT1 ok but crashed in GT2. After that we started with 4 cards. I think there would have been little bit more left in VGAs but we ran out of time this time.

BIOS was not final, some things didn't work and need to re-adjust, like vDroop-setting...;)

I had forgotten how good vaseline can be on graphics cards. I hate it and love it at the same time :)

i would say taht a HD5870 at those speeds will need more than 350-400watt pr card so therefor 3 psu

how would you get 350-400watt on a pcie 2.0 slot then?

But same config, just with Gulftown ran on 1200W SilverStone + 1000W Corsair HX in 2009 if Im not mistaking, and without any problems as for power consumption.

you use 150w on the pci-e port and then 200-250w on the 2 power conectors

2 add. power plugs on the board to cover high consumption, but we didn't measure...

There was some variation, but when I'm not completly wrong we had only 2 bad clockers out of 9 under LN2, rest > 1300 MHz GPU...

Maybe it's due to the Rampage Extreme III Sampsa, I heard Andre also had some scores non approved due to unreleased mobo... ( all Pieter Jans fault :p )

FM has now approved Catalyst 9.12 drivers and P47002 is currently new WR in Performance-preset with current generation hardware:

HIWA; That really is ashame, its a thorn in the eye that he still submits scores, he has cheated, multiple times, he is a disgrace to the entire benchmarking sport, he should never be allowed to submit ANY result whats all ever in public...

the guys vantage is 100% approved and it's actual WR, they used gem 975 and great vgas and hitted a big score, i think same setting can do same score (maybe a bit lower) on revolution ot 4way :yepp: as sampsa said X58 is release HW exactly same as our giga friends p55a-Ud7 is unrelease HW ? NO .. P55 released

there are some strong 5870 reference cards out there :up:

You need to find one which scales really good with cold (most 5870 i tested only scale till -115°C)

my friend have a reference Saphire 5870 which can do 1390Mhz/1375MHz@-150°C in Vantage without hardmod :D

My Powercolor is not so good :shrug: and can only do 1360MHz/1365MHz (sweetspot -85°C) in Vantage....
