Antec 1200OC @ 1600+ watt (4x GPU)

alright so i dont normally do psu testing or review and i dont have the equipment to do jonnyguru style testing but i can certainly test the unit works to pro specifications...

1. build two systems
2. power one system with antec 1200oc and the other independently
3. plug in four dual pcb gpus (2 GTX295, 1 MARS 295, 1 9800GX2)
4. load that ish up and check the power usage

I think this PSU is strong enough to power any system I might want to run, next testing will come with CPU and 4x 5870 on LN2 and high voltage.

what was the voltage on the eps connector? 12v? 12.01v? 11.85v? 11.5v? 12.1v?

But will it last?

I've got a dead 1000w (they were tested at "110%" output..) and i've seen a bunch of other dead ones too (850's and 1000's). Dont forget these things didnt play well with nV's powerplay for 8800GT/GTS so maybe it was an issue then and not now..)

OC edition have

8 pcie connectors (standard 4 x 6+2pin, 4x 6pin ) & 12 pcie connectios (oc 6x 6+2pin , 6 x 4pin) And the Fan + 12v knob , otherwise the design and content of PSU is all the same..

when's this one going to be available for us consumers? I'm insulating a classified 4 way for phase and have 4 gtx 295's (will be on water) ready for it. right now I've got 2 PSUs (enermax 1250w main, secondary is PC P and C silencer 750) but wouldn't mind a step up for the main PSU.

James, that's 1600w at the wall. What's the actual output though? e.g. at 80% efficiency you'd be drawing 1600w but outputting 1280w

This is my point SF3D with the review I did, the Antec unit is very powerful, but without the correct equipment to hand it is impossible to say just how good the PSU is, once a proper review has been done on the PSU then we can all sit back and enjoy.

Yes, I have no personal problem with these reviews, but I hope all users know the facts.

I am waiting to test this unit myself soon.

When it comes to very strong PSU's, PC P&C TurboCool 1,2KW or UltraX3 1,6KW have been on the market for years, so we have seen PSU's that can give >1400W (take ~1600W from the wall).

But I think ppl got the wrong picture here. This is not about "wow, we have never seen this before", it is about Antec putting out a very strong PSU for overclockers, a very strong top of the line for them. That, we should salute. :clap:

Now, if you really want to show something monstruous, use a single PSU to power up a platform with i7 >5.2GHz and 4 x HD5870 >1200MHz GPU. We tried that with an Enermax 1050W and it was a no go, we either got (in Vantage) 5,2GHz CPU and stock cards, or 1200MHz GPU's and stock CPU. I can still remember hipro using 2 PSU's for this, and Sampsa and SF3D using 3 PSU's :)

I saw some guys are jealous because Nickshih doesn't send them samples for review.:shrug:

It would be nice to see if that Corsair HX1000 could do the same load that the Antec is doing, it may be labeled as a 1000 watt PSU but internally its identical to the Thermaltake Toughpower 1,500 W.

The test looks more impressive than the numbers show, all that GPU and still within the limits of a single PSU.

internally identical? oh yeah...sasha did review the hx1000 vs the antec on the 12v rail..the antec held 12v @ 11.96v while the hx1000's 12v was @ 11.76..

this clearly shows the weakness of the hx1000..above 1000w..the 2 500w independent power supplies are kinda...trying hard already regulating the v1 and v2 rails...

it's a normal -30 @ 125W lol
make for memory testing so not that good for cpu @ high freq and high Vcore
