I just installed this chip and really don't have time to play with it right now, but I just couldn't resist giving it a quick run.
Best clocking Phenom I've ever had!!
I'm sure theres alot more in it when I get time to put it through it's paces.
This is on air @ 24c ambient, no tweaks and stock voltages!

You guys are killing me with those clocks ...
I was so eagerly waiting for C3 and now when it's out I must spend saved money on other, more general things like living/housing :(.
Well, maybe Santa will bring me C3 ... there is a hope!
Just don't show me any screens above 4.2GHz please :p:
man, we must go more up with air...because this is with my AIR old C2 and C3 not until coming :) (lightman, we dont need C3 :D)

it was classic air, not cold AIR :)
In every way,m with your voltage, Dave, its great, impossible for me Cinebench with 1.4V only at 3920 Mhz. Im still waiting for me C3, so long from USA to me...maybe this week finnaly?
And I was so proud of getting 4Ghz on my 955 ! LOL
Nice one Dave. ;) Now show some more.
I would not worry about them not beating your old C2....IIRC that shot of yours was 1 core and NB down. Wonder what this chip will do 1 core and no NB :idea:Quote:

the only reason i didn't go higher on air was the temps and i ran out of tim when i was on water so more to come when im done with these athlons. windows 7 aswell fyi
nice, try it with higher NB, Cinebench run, u can beat 17 000 think :)Quote:

Awesome guys.
I've been waiting for some of you to post up your results and thoughts on the C3 965.
I'm definitely not finding that to be the case. windows 7 tiny/32/64 have all been far more unstable for me than say server 2k3 as far as 2d benching goes. Both new phenom II's and athlon II's.Quote:

Congrats, very nice. C3/965 is proving very consistent. Low power + C3 stepping + high bin @ 3.4GHz is making for an excellent screen for OC potential.
And yes, chew* would know. It is not wise to question chew*.

Cheers.
I'll be the one posting the not so great results. I just picked up my C3 965 of 0941. Now I'm running a Crosshair III and for some reason, the setup as it was running with my 955 can't do the same. First of all 2800 or 2600 NB was a nogo. I could only use a single stick of 2GB OCZ Reapers DDR1600 with 7 7 7 timings. Lower speed and higher NB is a nogo. System won't even boot with 2 sticks of memory.
I do however have 1 small problem. I can only use the memory slots on the outside- further away from the CPU slot due to the TRUE 120 and the memory heat spreaders too high to fit. I'm not too sure if I'm doing something wrong, but this is a little ridiculous seen that I was looking forward to trying and testing the chip. Any ideas.
voodoo that sounds like a bug I had with an m4a79_T. macci and vince IIRC had the same issues in QC.
I think a bios adressed some issues with that but I know a board was bad. If you insulated ram slots and used vaseline or dielectic the asus's tend to act up, its like the pins don't have enough tension to make contact. I ran into this issue as well.
Chew* thanks a bunch I will try it out, but I think I might have found the problem. I reinstalled my old 955 and same problem. When I installed the true 120 the screw driver slipped and nicked the board. Upon closer inspection the scratch was right across 3 lines comming from the memory. Great, I think I FINALLY killed my Crosshair III. I'm sort of happy, but still upset as I can't test the 965 C3.
Awww man that sux, if the traces are not broken and just bridged, get a razor and unbridge them, coat the exposed area with a drop of nail polish.Quote:

It was, but I had the heat down in the living room (72*F) and added a second 120mm to the Xig. I also had the Skeleton Case's 250mm On high. My water setup, if goes well, should net me much better results. I am hoping to be as cold as equinoxQuote:

Keep us posted Bud!
Dave
same stepping here... 0944 was just like 2 weeks ago ;)
well Im running prime now at 4ghz 1.475v
Ambiant is 20c
and Im seeing load at 43c
which is conflicting with my lapped C2
which ran 4ghz 1.57v
24c ambiant room and saw load of 41c
My waterblock is lapped also and contact between the block and C2 was extremely good (squeezing all of the thermal paste out and showing pretty much copper to copper contact with only the smallest hints of paste)
Nice clocks you guys. I had to suspend testing yesterday unfortunately. Had a pair of computers come in with viruses, and both ended up needing windows re-install. :shakes:
Okay, I got a new Corsshair III and I got 2 sticks of 2GB ram OCZ working in the outside slots at 1600mhz with 7 7 7 21 T1 timings. But I can not change my NB speed higher then 2000 by using the multi. I did with similar board, same bios 2800 on the NB for 24/7 use with the memory at the same speed only a 955 at 3.8ghz at the head of the table.
What the hell is going on? This board in general is pretty straight forward to clock..... I did not expect this when running a C3 965
Sounds like it needs a microcode update.Quote:

Nothing prior to that to support new cpu's maybe around the 4th or up to 2 weeks prior?
Looks like ryba was using a diff bios with what appears to be no issues. I would start with 1003

Has anyone noticed a difference when using boards that unlock, between NORMAL/HYBRID/UnLEASHED modes using C3 chips?
If so, is there any prefered option, Normal or Unlocked?
I'll play with it myself but I know some of you guys have had these chips for awhile.
Thanks....... Dave
1003 and 1105 is a no go for me as I have the same problem.
The CPU is clocking okey and I can easily boot at 4Ghz, but I can't clock the NB. I can clock it, but the moment WIn 7 64bit show the splash screen for loading it would hang and pop up a blue screen. I tried to increase the vnb, vcore and vdimm without any success.
Looks like I might go back to the 955.
Question for you C3 guys, do you know if they are going to do a revision of the 955 or just keep pushing forward?
interesting question because I want know if Pegor & Propus will go C3 too.Quote:

Makes sense to me, I mean $175 for a 955 what a killer price point. You think they could get it to 95w or would that be pushing it?Quote:

Very impressive results already guys. I wont a C3 soooo bad, but alas little old NZ hasn't got any stock yet.
Some preliminary results on ambient water. So far, mine seems to need more volts than some here.
3.7 @ 1.4v
3.8 @ 1.4125v (shows 1.408 in cpu-z)
3.9 ? went to 1.45v with no joy so far
went back to 3.8 and got cpunb to 2800, requiring 1.35v.
More later!
Take it up to 1.475 or 1.488, and you will hit 4 ghz easily. Might have to drop the NB one multi though.Quote:

The voltage was just an observation vs. DaveBurts 3920 @ 1.4, for example, but I didn't get my chip from Simon. Glad to see he sent out the good stuff though.
I'll probably end up with cpunb @ 2640, since to get my ripjaws to 1600c7 I have to use 3/10 divider and 240 ref.
I'll update later.

I cant get anywhere near what anyone in here has. I tried everything and my chip refuses to be stable at anywhere near 4ghz. I have tried all the way to 1.55 vcore, 1.35 cpu nb, I have tried everything. Maybe I got a crap chip or something. The batch is 939xxx.

Very nice Titan.
I saw your comment on my post in Simon's ultimate thread, and thought it made more sense to pick it up here.
Regarding your comment, yes, of course I started with all at stock. I could hit a max of 3.7 @ stock volts (1.392 indicated in cpu-z). For 3.8, I needed 1.4125v (1.408 indicated). Then I tried for 3.9, however when I gave it 5 bumps of .0125v, i.e. incrementally to 1.475v (1.472 indicated), and it wasn't yet stable, I thought I'd have some fun with the nb for a while instead. I'd like to end up with a balance between cpu and nb speed, and I was curious what the nb would do since my 550be topped out around 2500 stable.
For 2800 nb at 3.8 gig cpu I needed 1.35v to the cpunb. The cpu was at 1.4125. Just for fun I had ramped it from there to 1.4875v to try (unsuccessfully) for 3.9.
With 2640 nb, requiring 1.225v, I stabilized the cpu at 3840 at 1.425v. Trying for 3960, I incremented the cpu as high as 1.5125v, which made it 20 min blend before rebooting, with core temps around 49 iirc.
I'll have more time tonight, so after I take one more stab at 3960 and 2640 nb, I'll pick up where I left off with stock settings, and see what it takes for volts to stabilize 3.9 (last tried 1.475). But an exponential increase in voltage required for the next level isn't a good sign.
Thanks for your input, and raiderman's. These are fun to play with, and I agree with Daveburt's post in the other thread. This is about the journey, about tweaking and playing and trying different strategies. I'm learning a lot. It would be nice if we all had golden samples, but it's luck of the draw. Although I did just pull my 2 month old 550be because I caught c3 fever!

I think that Titan7171's 3Dmark06 cpu score is low.
I don't see a Nb speed in the pic, but it's it's a 2.6ghz it's holding back the cores, might want to try same bench again with it at 3.0ghz NB/3.1ghzNB/3.2ghz.
It prolly is but I only had 2 bags of ice and there was hella rebooting and setting up plus a couple switches on the os.........so I really didnt get to get a great score on the cpu in any one test. plus Im on an older mobo the cpu score is in line with what Ive gotten before as a cpu score, in other words my 4.3ghz run gave me a cpu score of 5960 or somewhere there.Quote:

i noticed that too, my 965BE (c2) will run up to 4.1gig max set via the bios (max it will boot to windows), however, once in winders, AOD can make your CPU look like a star, I can actually jack my vcore to 1.55, set the x to 21.5 all four cores, and it will run long enough for me to verify a CPU-z check for frequency @4.3, and then I back it down and let the bios take over again....never tried just one core......
interesting none the least....
laterzzzz...........
Yeah it's possible to use different multipliers for each of the cores ;).The bad thing is that there is only one voltage regulator for all the cores internally(Griffin mobile X2s @ 65nm had 3: two for two cores and one for NB).
I think AMD will "remedy" this in bulldozer where each module will have one of those for independent clocking of the cores inside the same module.
yea, I dont think Ive ever ran an overclock with mutis at different settings........my overclocks are either all cores do the speed or none. I wont set cores at different speeds.Quote:

You are a GOD bro... :bows::bows::bows:
4500 IMC is just unbelievable! How about some Cinebench, WPrime and WinRAR at those clocks?
Just so we know it's somewhat stable...;)
Just a normal human being here :D Did not really test anything for stability, its a bencher. On air (thermalright True) the CPU does Cinebench R10 at 4000mhz with 1,45vcore and about 3000 NB freq. The cold helps the NB freq a lot thats why 4500 was possible.
Guaranteed 6Ghz+ and NB 4500+ with cold:up:
Cooling by an old cascade that last time used FX57:)Quote:
