AMD Phenom II X4 965 C3 is out!

Hi all!

I have got some C3 stepping samples to test, but time have been really limited and chips are not that great. The best ones are in different hands.

So far new stepping is looking good! At least 200MHz+ better OC results on air. NB is the same, but power consumption is a bit better :up:

CPU is real retail and not golden one for sure. There is a bit better CPU in those few screens and I will clearly mark it.

Wow... C3 looks very promising. Too bad I've just bought one C2 955BE. As you say, I can do CPU Test in '06 at 4.1GHz on air so there's the first difference. Can't wait for see some "golden" C3 that does 7GHZ+ CPU-Z validation :)

Voltage is correct in aircooled 06 runs, but int the rest it seems to be VID value.

If CPU-Z would read it from the other sensor (SB) it would be correct. Luckily voltage can be checked from AOD, if needed.

RAM is A-Data 1600X+ D9GTR and Corsair D9GTR in other setup with "safe" settings.

OMG, if your such good in overclocking you should know that Asus doesn't show the correct voltage in CPU-Z ;)

Nice results man.

The batch week there is interesting, I have three C2 chips that are later than that one. Maybe the real retail chips, made once production has fully ramped up, will be even better?

wow 6.3ghz benchable :D awesome SF3d... how is the motherboard with 6.3ghz? is it the mobo limiting the max cpu frequency? or the cpu is the limiting factor?

Yes, the limit of memory clock frequency is the same. It is the architechture, not stepping. Next gen will be fixed.

This chip of mine is quite old, like some user pointed out. I believe newer C3's are a lot better on air already. LN2 tests will be fun to do as well.

FPO is in the fist page. With memory limit we mean, that there is physical limit on RAM speed. You can not exceed 952MHz. (or near that MHz level)

My memory is clocking all the same with retail 955 and 965 C3

I hope they will be in Macci's hands tomorrow. Lhe might be doable soon as well.

Yes, physical limit but this limit is higher with rev. C3 than with C2. If we're talking about physical limits, we can say that Core i7 (Bloomfield) has a memory frequency cap around 2200-2250MHz with the CPU on air (because of the uncore) :). Everywhere there are limits but in this case it matters that AMD improved the limit (C3>C2)...

No no no.. :D

Still talking about different thing. Memory speed can not go over certain limit, no matter what you do. You have to test it yourself, if you dont believe me ;)

Next generation of CPU's should have higher memory speeds available. Now we just have to play with tight timings.

If your memory clocks better under this 952MHz limitation, that is improvement, but not the thing we are waiting to be fixed :up:

It's 960MHz afaik.

There are no registry settings beyond 960MHz available for higher frequency.

Here is one 3DM05 run. This was ment to be done with 3 cards, but one was damaged during our trip to Austria.

Well, this score will give us idea, what score will be with 5970 :up:

This CPU is great with core 0,1 and 2, but core 3 is very bad. 6.1GHz in 06 is maximum when other 3 can do 6.3GHz+. There is no point to test 06 with this.

32M is doable 6550MHz and 1M was the same.

Max CPU-Z 6750MHz

That's all.

I will start to test some new C3 CPU's now.

Sf3d: what is max validation with Core 0? With quality cores is the same as my x4 955 C2 (Core 0+1 are great and core 3+4 is about 100-150MHz whorse)

One of the graphics card was damaged in our trip to Austria, but it can be used with stock settings :D

2x Thermaltake 1200W TP
3x ATI Radeon 5870

Next I need to modify the motherboard, cause there is V limit. More than 1.85V in load and it will cut off :( This CPU seems to love voltage, so more is needed.
