Almost ready to By ATI 5850

Hello there Guys, I am almost ready to by the ATI 5850 Graphic Card. Either I am gona order it this week or next week, but soon. So far nothing from nvidia and from what I have been reading, nothing BIG is gona come from nvidia. Also One of my biggest reason that I am leaning towards ATI because of the HDMI Port Output. I am planning to get me a 42" to 46" LCD or LED TV and this would be a really good Graphic Card. None of the nvidia cards have HDMI ports Period (Built on Card not adapter)

So I just wanted to get your final Thoughts before I place my order. Is ATI 5850 a Good Choice. Also I have never bought ATI Cards before, But What Brand of ATI 5850 is a Good Product? Thank you for all your help.

On a Side-Note, Can good Recommendation for a SATA Add-On Controller Card?

I haven't one, but i would recommend XFX because XFX Cards have always been famous for there very good Overclocking ability :up::up::up::up:

i don't think so ,XFX service is better ,u can tell that ............

But they never provided any software for overclocking ,which evga provides & asus & msi in ATI area r far better providing overclocking experience from there cards....

well asus rma is a nightmare msi i dont know?? but from experience HIS and sapphire rma is great I heard xfx "lifetime" warranty and "overclocker/mod friendly" warranty is kind of give or take basically if they deem it rma'able then they will if not sorry bout your luck.sapphire and HIS have both rma'd for me even with modded bios hell HIS even did it when I voltmodded them even though I did take it off first it was still visable

If you plan on OCing, maybe it's easier to get the MSI, than to get other brand and flash the BIOS.

Otherwise, HIS or Sapphire are good options.

Well I do plan to OC my Card, but I am gona wait for a Better Cooling Solution before I OC my Card. So if this is the case, do I need to follow the OC Brand?

theres only lcd or lcd led backlit.... no REAL led tv's out yet thats usable :( just crap marekting...

anyway i would go asus or xfx

and on the sata card literally deppends how much theres ones that are $10 to $1000 sorta thing

No, you just avoid the hassle/risk of flashing other brand to use MSI's afterburner, but AFAIK, any other brand can be flashed to MSI BIOS.

im useing a gtx 295 is there any reason i should sell this and get a 5850 or a 5870 does the 5870 warrant the price in performance ? because im thinking about doing so selling it...

5870 = about the same or slightly better performance but way lower power usage.

it depends what games you play, if you play HAWX a lot then go for it, if you play Crysis a lot, the 295 is better, it all depends on what games you play.

what about if i get 2X 5850 then ? what that be a leap from the gtx 295 ?

yes it will, but I think it will increase power usage a bit, might be worth waiting for the 5900 series, it'll probably cost a bit less but you get 1600 shaders per GPU, otherwise same specs.

Yes, no microstuttering on single GPU cards.

to be honest i don"t notice any microstutter. i just want a dx11 card i think i will wait for 5900 cheers anyway for advice guys.

Thats if I can find one. I amleaning more towards Asus Card because of OC options. But Newegg went out FAST.

Well normally I would agree that the Asus card is the way to go for overclocking, but with the BIOS flashing so easy on these cards using the Asus or MSI BIOS, there's just not reason to limit yourself to one brand of card.

get an MSI card. Afterburner is great and I think we should support the manufacture who gives us a great tool. Also, they are the one releasing "unlocked" 5850 and 5870 bios. Support the company that's giving us the OC freedom

If/when you have to RMA a Sapphire card, you are required to pay a $15 fee to cover the shipping, even if it IS UNDER WARANTEE...... Pretty weak IMHO.....

Yeah their marketing on their warranties is about all they got. I'm going MSI when I can.

I think that branding is nothing , if options r there like (If u bios flash Sapphire with msi unlocked one :D)it works man
Im waiting for my Sapphire 5770 will surely flash with asus unlocked bios ................

So to be on the safe side, I should just get the MSI 5850 and once the MSI unlock Bios is out, I can flash my card. Would this be the safe way. I am checking my local stores, Frys, Microcenter and so on and of course the avaiability is really low. I am gona buy the card somewhere next week and after reading your guys comments, it doesn't matter what brand I get because I have the option of Flashing my Bios. But I would feel alot safer to buy MSI and your there our release unlock bios to flash my card.

Your Thoughts?

Whatever you do, don't get an XFX brand. The stock BIOS prohibits OCing, and you can't work around this prob with either a BIOS mod or software.

Well I was leaning more towards MSI, so there is talk that they are gona release any unlocked Bios soon. But to be honest with you guys, I am 50/50 on OC the card. I mean if I get what I want, then why OC. Maybe I am missing something?

The average person doesn't care if the video card overclocks past the CCC limits set by XFX and most other manufacturers. That being said, it's very easy to flash any 5800 series card with an MSI or Asus bios to raise the CCC limits so I can only assume you made a typo when you said it can't be done. XFX is also the only company to offer a double lifetime warranty which is nice when it comes time to resale.

I have two XFX 5850 cards in crossfire running an MSI bios and they overclock far past the XFX CCC limits, 1000/1250.

I tried the ASUS bios and ATIFLASH would not flash it. After I posted, I tried again with the -f option and it worked. So now I can successfully OC my card. Still, I got rather poor OC results, only 823/1150 GPU/mem. Overclockers Club got 870/1220 from their Sapphire 5850 card. What OC are you getting from your XFX?

As stated above, I have run my XFX 5850's in crossfire at 1000/1250. This is with a bump in voltage using MSI Afterburner. I believe I could go higher with the core values, but I have no need for that with a dual card setup as there's already far more speed than I need for any current game. In fact, I use 850/1250 for day to day use since it doesn't require much voltage. I just like to know I can go to 1000/1250 if needed for future gaming.

My XFX card is way underperforming, I'm getting only 913 core and it takes 1.174 volts to achieve that. What voltage are you running to get 1000 core? Both your cards can do 1000?

I think it is normal, I have been reading in different forums, and seems for 900core on HD5850 average vcore is 1.15v ~ 1.20v, so I think 1.17v is acceptable, but I wonder some folks who run their memory @ 1100 or 1150 since the ram is rated to run @ 1250, did you try to bump your memory speed? did you get stability problem with your memory oc'ed more than 1150?
I'm running atm 900/1200 1.174v using the ASUS official bios and afterburner 1.4

That's excatly what my 5850's take to reach that speed so that's very normal.

Keep in mind that mine are in crossfire which means they both have to achieve the same exact speed at the same voltage in order maintain stability.

My voltages are as follows:

850/1250 - 1.125v

900/1250 - 1.174v

950/1250 - 1.225v

1000/1250 - 1.274v

The memory is rated to run at 1250 so I see no reason not to run it that speed. It should be perfectly stable on any 5800 series card unless your card has a bad batch of memory chips. That being said, my 5850's will not run 1300 as I've seen some 5870's running which may be where the 3 phase power management on the 5850 compared to the 4 phase on the 5870 makes a difference.

Well, I tried 1250 and it gave me increase 100 points over the 1150 and sometimes 50 points , I think memory OC has minimal effect on the performance
