I'm trying to evaluate what is the best bang for my buck, free is even better.
Been using the new Windows AV with Win7. Seems to be doing a good job so far.
AVG. Been using it for years and it has done well. Has done a better job than McAfee (what a joke) or Norton in general in my experience. Can't complain for the price either.
Kaspersky is the best anti-virus ever :)
I used Comodo, but now Microsoft Security Essentials is defending my Win 7 system.
MS Security Essentials for now. Might change soon after reinstalling, will see.
Kaspersky 2010.
Nod32. Works real well for me.
Symantec Corporate Edition client on all my computers.
Kapersky 2010 in my 24/7 rig and AVG Free on the spare rig , both work well but kapersky do a better Job.
kapersky:up:
Avira AntiVir and COMODO firewall + NAT hardware firewall.
Microsoft security essentials (MSE) isn't as low profile as ESET or Avira, but doesn't matter if you have a fast system.
Best free would be Avira but MSE has antispy too.
On one rig I use MSE and the other Avira.
However I also use Spyware Doctor free starter edition to catch all those tracking cookies that aren't picked up by MSE.
malware bytes in passive
I used to be a big fan of nod32 but I get mcafee enterprise free through my university and free is good :)
ESET NOD32, tried all other popular ones but this wins easily for me.
I'm using Trend Micro antivirus, got it for free at work, so might as well use it.
I'm actually quite happy with it!
MS Security Essentials.
What firewall would you guys recommend? ^^ Also which Anti-Virus is the most low-profile and best to use for really slow systems such as Intel Atom based etc.?
No offense, but if you ever switch to a good AV like Kaspersky, it will find lots of malware, spyware, and viruses that AVG has been missing. I know quite a few people that made the switch from AVG to Kaspersky and were amazed at what they didn't realize AVG was allowing to get through.
Avira AntiVir Premium
GesWall
Both have been working fine...
AVG Free.
Symantec endpoint. I had kind of a tough time finding something I really like for 64bit os at a reasonable price. This fit the bill at just over $100 for 10 user license.
Kaspersky IS 2010.
Also use WinPatrol Plus and Task Catcher.
nod32, avira, ms essentials
Kaspersky 2010..there is no better
Been usin Avast since 2 year, there is no better AV :P Kaspersky, Avg or else have many bugs, and annoying
Nod32 here :) Really good, as Kaspersky.
A useful URL (in french, sorry ^^) to compare Avast, Antivir and AVG : http://forum.malekal.com/avast-antivir-avg-t11659.html
Ok it's from 2008, but the informations given there are still really interesting (as the entire forum, I suggest all of you to read it if you understand french :))
Wierd compare :S I tried Nod32, Avast, AVG and Antivir... Nod32 is SUPER passive av, don't detect many viruses. Antivir pretty good but had bsod with it, AVG like nod32... Avast is cool. Its like install and forgot... Updates every day, detect all :banana::banana::banana: and give you option what to do with it xD
NOD32 4 64bits for sure
KIS 2009 with my notebook and a PC.
Antivir Free with my 2nd notebook.
avira here. XP, Vista or 7 it hasn't let me down.
Try AnVir Task Manager. It shows everything running on a computer. I've been using it for about 4 or 5 years on a couple of pc's, and I've been really happy with it
MS Security Essentials.
comodo!
avira free!
I've been using Avira for like 5 years now, has never let me down
Eset Smart Security here, although every few weeks I'll try something else for a few days (I have to have an intimate understanding of all packages for work :( ). For paid software I can't think of better, for free I heartily recommend Avast 5.
Combination of MSSE and the occasional run of Malwarebytes Anti Malware keeps my system clean as a whistle.
I used AVG for a few years when it was version 6 but picked up a virus which it couldn't get rid so i had to re-install windows :( Now I use Avast and I've had no problems for 2 years or so.
I put it on all my rigs and any rigs which come to me for repair.
Using Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free for Windows 7 users (and perhaps those on Vista as well).
Personally I would try and find out what is the most commonly used antivirus and that provides feed back to its developer. A modern antivirus needs to be able to send user feedback on the threats that it finds so that the developer can keep you up to date. I use AVG and its residant shield has caught a few nasty little critters for me.
Nod32 Smart Security
I know I've already posted, but I'd like to update.
I'm now using KIS 2010 and couldn't be happier about this "total solution".
I add Malwarebytes for extra scanning duties, especially useful to keep on a flash drive to use on other people's computers in safe mode.
Yea i used to work for a company that use Trend and they got viruses all over thier server ALL THE FREEKING TIME!! Trend micro is a pile of DOG SHIZAZLE!!! It got to the point that I would purposefully open attachments bwecause i knew thet Trend Micro WASNT going to catch it. I kept telling the IT guy to switch to a different prog but he wouldnt. I think I am personally responsible for about 10-12 different infections and half of them were by opening email attachemnts just to prove the IT guy was an idiot for using Trend Micro.
My comp at work kept getting infected and I had to use Mcaffee online to clean it.:ROTF:
At home, I subscribe to ESET NOD32 and have been virus free for years. And I surf a tremendus amout of :banana::banana::banana:o and haxer sites!!
I am absolutely astonished that the OP would ask and have a vote about AV and NOT list the two best AV progs on the planet. ESET and Kerpersky. How can you take an AV poll without them. Phht :shakes:
I wondered the same, but I didn't bother to add to the poll pages later, because the votes have already been counted and you can't re-vote.
voted other.
ESET/NOD software.
our IT guys recommend it, our company uses it, and in the past 4 years I haven't had a single problem.
also recommend Malware Bytes anti malware. Blocks a LOT of IP addresses that are SPAM and crap.
avast.
Symantec Endpoint Protection, Small Business Edition.
Have yet to get anything, so I can only assume it works.
I used to have NOD32 installed and had a paid subscription. That ran out and i get norton free from work. Does the job and is better than most people give it credit.
Norton was a bit crappy between 2004 and 2008. Mostly because it was slow as hell and its LiveUpdate part very unreliable and prone to failure. Then, after floods of complaints they started improving it. Version 2009 was much better, followed by version 2010 which proved to be one of the best on the market with very high scores in most of tests (perfromance and detection). The corporate versions were much better even before 2009.
Very similar to McAfee's enterprise offerings which were usually far beter than consumer ones.
Used to use AVG, but after I got a couple of viruses crashing the system I switched to Avast and never had a problem since.
Well ... Kaspersky isn't the best A/V on the planet. period - In my opinion !!!!
I have used Kaspersky for little over a year until suddenly my rig started becoming unresponsive at times ... yes you guessed it kaspersky !! Up until that time I never had a problem with it, but after removing kaspersky and installing Avira (this is the second time I'm using Avira) I never looked back. Avira is so much lighter on system resources and has a better detection rate so it's a no brainer really.
I have not seen any truely independant AV tests in over a year so I really cant say who is the best in the last year or two. I have heard that Norton has come a long way as is actually very good now. Where as a few years ago Norton and Mcafee were pointed and laughed at by companies like ESET.
I would like to see some recent detection tests by an "INDEPENDANT" source. If you have any links please post them.
I found this site: http://www.av-comparatives.org/compa...ummary-reports
And in this summary report they seem to think that Norton, ESET, and Kasper., are the overall winners. http://www.av-comparatives.org/image...ummary2009.pdf
I think its halarious that if you go to any of the AV companies web sites thay all claim themselves as the best one. hehe
Eset nod32 hands down, +malwarebytes
I used to use AntiVir in conjunction with COMODO Firewall, but I now use COMODO Internet Security (AV + firewall). While AntiVir is still considered tops when it comes to detection rate, I realized that almost any solution out there will fit my needs, so I decided to streamline my solution into one package. Also, I honestly don't see the point in buying AV software for personal use, as the top free stuff is just as good for this application.
I use Avast, but only to scan untrusted downloads. I don't have any of it running in real time. I rely primarily on NoScript and Adblock Firefox extentions. I block flash and don't use any Adobe products. I use Foxit for PDF reading, but this too seems to share a lot of Adobe readers' vulnerabilities. If a site I do not know needs Javascript to work, then I will search again and find a site that doesn't use Javascript. It can be a pain enabling Javascript on a site by site basis, but not quite as much pain as perhaps having to re-install the OS. I don't use AV on any of my Linux machines or my LAMP server. If I feel I really must run untrusted code, I install or run the code on a virtual machine first. The last virus infection I had was the Saddam virus on my Amiga, so I am extremely lucky or my methods work.
The best Anti-virus solution is you. If a download is free, the chances are it isn't.
Edit: Forgot to add, I use ZoneAlarm, just the free firewall. It warns me of everything that tries to initiate outgoing connections and blocks all unrequested incoming connections. I have my wireless AP and router nailed down too.
Nothing...Well Nod32 I just reinstalled the OS
