Kingston HyperX Elpida Hyper Replacements

I bought a 3x2GB Kingston HyperX 2000Mhz Elpida Hyper based kit a while back for a new Core i7 build that got delayed. I finally built my Core i7 rig a little over a month ago. The system initially ran great at stock settings but out of nowhere I started to have memory errors and BSODS. I tested each stick individually and 2 sticks worked great, one stick would not allow the system to post at all. It is dead.

Kingston agreed to replace my kit which I mailed out yesterday and expect my replacement kit back the end of next week.

My questions is: Does anyone know what Kingston is replacing their Elpida Hyper based kits with?

Will the replacement kit contain Elpida Hyper IC's or BBSE?

if it's a 2000C8 kit I think so

Kingston is a bit conservative on kits specs so I doubt they will put BBSE or HCF0 on them

and I recently RMA a Kingston 3x1GB kit Hyper based and receive back a new one with Hyper

my friend i have the same kit 3x2g and the chips are elpida bbse!

Yes, it was the 3x2GB 2000CL8 kit. That is great news everyone, thank you for the replies. Let's hope they send my back Hypers as well. Here are some pics of the kit I just sent back to them. I already have a G.Skill 2000Mhz BBSE kit and don't want them to swap out my Hypers for another BBSE kit. I'll post back what they send me once I receive my replacement kit next week.

BBSE can't run the tight timings that Hypers can at.

BBSE can't run the tight timings that Hypers can like CL7 2000Mhz.

I have had no bad experiences with my 3x2GB G.Skill Trident 2000Mhz kit. It just can't run 2000Mhz CL7 like my Hypers could. They are rated 9-9-9-24 @ 2000Mhz. The Trident kit is a great deal IMHO for $150.00US at Newegg. I only bought the G.Skill kit to use while Kingston kit is being RMA'd. Max I can run stable CL7 with G.Skill kit is 1886Mhz 7-8-7-20-1T @ 1.68v ~ QPI 1.45v

Hi. One of my kingston hyper module is dead. KHX16000D3ULT1K3. I have bought it through ebay. will kingston replace my kit? how do you guys start rma process? another point, i m in Turkey. I have friends in USA. So I can send to my friends and they will send it to Kingston USA. So kingston USA will send it to my friend in USA. that is what I will plan to do. Cause Kingston turkey will not replace kits bought from USA. Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks

there are only two types of ic that can do 2000 8-8-8 1.65v spec right now - hypers and high binned bbse. either way, whatever you will get won't be bad

tworule, try kingston uk and tell them it's a "prize kit", then they should rma no prob.

I have 2 sets of these pictured --> KHX16000D3ULT1K3 = elpida -mNh - e hyper my question is I am using one set and it seemed to be running fine tell I put W7 on and I started getting BDOS screens like mad. I am wondering if one of the sticks went bad? My other set I never opened and I am thinking maybe I should just sell them on ebay as is NEW never opened and buy something else? What do you guys think? RMA first set and sell second set!

Guys one of my Sticks just went dead when under stress test of 12GB in DFI-X58-T3eH8.
RMA'd a new kit with new model # but found out one of then sticks is acting weird.
Test on EVGA P55 FTW Result:
8-8-8-20 2000Mhz 1T 1.65v = Errors @ Test #7,
8-8-8-20 1333Mhz 1T 1.65v = Errors @ Test #7,
8-8-8-20 2000Mhz 1T 1.5v = No Errors,
8-8-8-20 1333Mhz 1T 1.25v = No Errors.
It appears to be bad PCB QC rather than the chip itself. So when checking if your sticks are working properly, check if the PCB can handle that voltage as well...

For my current experiance with this baby,
I've tested 6 sticks and all of them can pass Memtest 86+ @ 1.5vDIMM under 8-8-8-20 1T 2000Mhz.
7-8-7-20 will need more voltage than the origional hypers which is around 1.7~1.72v.
However clocking high to 2200Mhz while lentency remain 8-8-8-20 1T @1.65v is still PI 32M X8 Stable somehow
Judging from it's price it's already performing well and cannot complain anymore...

Well guys I got my replacement kit at work this morning from Kingston. The replacement model is the one stated above by EvoCarlos

Haven't opened up or tested as they arrived at work this morning but will throw them in tonight and test them out. From the above posts it seems this is an Elpida Hyper kit.

my new ones wont even do 2000mhz i have tryed all combinations but non will pass spi32mb just get bsod

i have phone'd kingston and ask what the problem is with the new sticks i am awaiting the return call

but with lots and lots of vv's they do this :) not stable for anything but will boot to os

My Kingston 6GB 2000C8 original kit and rma replacement both failed, but haven't initiated the 2nd rma yet as waiting for such stock to flow down to Aussie kingston channels as well as see how these (MGH-E Hyper) do for others. hey eva i will let you know i told them about this kit and its unabilty to run 2000mhz the old stuff mnh-e's would do 7-7-7-20 2000 1.66v stable so what ever the problem is with these i hope them to sort it :)

what made me laff was the 2nd xmp profile 3500mhz @ 1.65v 7-8-7-20

i told them whats the point in that it wont even run 1750mhz

they have taken all the info from the lable on the ram so they know where and when and what chips they are im hoping there are so others by now that they will send
i was really happy with the mnh-e's but these are just messing me about :(

There's many types of elpida hyper some do 2000mhz 7-7-7-x some do 7-8-7-x. My Corsair GT 2000C7 are 7-8-7-x varieties. So which ever you get is luck of the draw really.

Well that's no good. Let's hope I don't have the same problem with my new kit. I see you have the 3x1GB kit so I hope it's not related to my new 3x2GB kit. Will post more info and results tonight.

eva2000, when did you RMA your first kit? Just trying to find out if the batch I got today is the same batch or close to your rma kit that is dead. Or did you get your first RMA a while back?

Man I'm really having trouble getting this new kit stable at 2000Mhz CL7 or CL8. I finally got 2000Mhz 7-8-7-21-1T LinX 5 passes max mem stable with 1.6QPIv and 1.74vdimm. That much higher voltage than my original kit needed to run 2000Mhz.

I was talking to someone earlier who told me to play with B2B which i have not done yet, its set to 0 by default on my P6T Deluxe V2.

Any suggestions on the sub timings or B2B setting for 2000Mhz CL7 or CL8?

Will post some results when I get home later tonight.

EDIT:

After reading the MadShrimp Article "Back-to-Back Cas Delay Investigated" it seems I have no chance of getting my kit stable at 2000Mhz CL7 or CL8 on this Board unless I change B2B to either 10 or 12??? I will test this when I get home and hope this gets me stable with MUCH MUCH lower vQPI and vdimm.

I received my rma replacements from Aussie kingston distributor on June 26th so a little over 3 months ago

Well after testing with B2B 12 tonight I quickly got 2000Mhz 7-8-7-20-1T Memtest stable 100% with much lower voltage.

I got home, set B2B to 12, reduced vdimm to 1.70v, reduced vQPI to 1.52v and set timings to 7-8-7-20-1T and Memtest ran 100% 8 instances maxmem. I will now run LinX 10 passes and if that passes then will start lowering voltages till I get errors. Then run Prime95 x64 overnight.:up:

These are the first and only settings I have tried or tested tonight. Once I am done finding stability with lowest volts at these settings I will test max frequency CL7 & CL8.

Hey guys found out one of my stick went bad as well. My question is under the Kingston RMA process it is asking me this -->"Item 1: A discontinued/Obsoleted part number is entered, it can only be repaired. Please choose Repair as Type of RMA and Repair/Discontinued as Reason For Return." So they will only fix the stick now and not replace all of them? Should I call them to setup the RMA process or email it to start? I want a new complete set not thrown together and sent back to me. I see allot of guys RMAing which is better calling or emailing? Thanks

LOL after posting the above I decided to open the other package I had of the Kingston HyperX and I thought my first batch was bad. I have 1 dead stick in first set and now this set has 2 dead sticks second batch .. :shakes: I decided to buy the Mushkins Redlines 1600Mhz CL6 for now. I still need to RMA both packs now :mad: So again is calling better for replacements or setup RMA online?

I did the same RMA you did and it said the same thing. Don't worry, I got an e-mail shortly after doing the RMA informing me that they were replacing with KHX2000C8D3T1K3/6GX but they didn't have any in stock and they would arrive 10/5/09. They got new stock 10/4 and overnighted to me which I received 10/5/09.

Just complete the RMA online, they aren't going to fix your kit.:up:

well i just set my 3x1 kit up for rma, as one stick suddenly decided it doesnt wanna post

Just got another pack of Kingston HyperX C8-2000 6GB from 2nd hand market for 8GB/12GB action.
During some initial test I've found something interesting.
Seems the early batches of new part number pack of Kingston HyperX is still using MNH-E Hyper.
The reason for this is because the nature of MGH-E Hypers are slightly different from MNH-Es.
With 2nd handed sticks I cannot run 2200 @ CAS 8 but can stablise 7-8-7-20 2000Mhz 1T w/ 1.67vDIMM,
compare with my own (2205 CAS 8 memtest 86+ error free, but 7-8-7-20 1T result in tonnes of errors)
From my own experiance MNH-E's like Tighter timings while MGH-E's like Higher Frequencies.
Looks to me like serial number starting from 08s are still MNH-E hypers.
For more information I'll photo them up for a comparison.

Please can you tell me why you use 1.7v when maximum voltage is supposed to be 1.65v?
I don't understand I thought these kits were dying anyway surely 1.7v will not be helping.

Please don't think I'm having a go at you all I'm trying to is find out about this RAM because I might buy some but I have never run RAM at higher than the rated voltage, if it won't work at the rated voltage is it not faulty?

1.65vDimm is the limit if you leave QPI/Dram at stock voltage. If you increase QPI you can increase vDimm as long as they stay within 0.5v of each other. Many times when having trouble running RAM at high frequencies like this, its not the fault of the RAM being "bad." Rather its a result of the IMC on the cpu not being "good." One way to remedy this is to increase QPI and vDimm slightly.

Well "TheKarmakazi" said it perfectly. As long as you keep vQPI and vDimm within 0.5v of each other than you are ok. Also, the rated voltage is for the rated timings which mine is 1.65v @ CL8 2000Mhz. If you look at my screenshots I am running 7-8-7-20-1T @ 2000Mhz which is tighter than the rated timings. I needed those voltages to get 100% Maxmem 20 runs LinX stable.

I've been extremely busy with work lately but had some time to play with this HyperX kit some more.

sorry to bring this thread up , have a bit of an argument and thought i'll ask here:

has anyone ever seen a kingston 2000 8-8-8 specced kit (no matter old KHX16000D3ULT1K3 or new KHX2000C8D3T1K3, no matter from a shop or rma) with elpida BBSE chips? (not with hypers)

well the khx2000cl8 kit that kingston sent me from rma now work great

it turns out that the msi eclipse sli and the foxconn bumrage gti dont support them very well

buy when in the clasy 760 they fly with low volts
have been running 7-8-7-20-69-1t @1.74v @ around 1100mhz +/- 20mhz

there still strong i only use them for benching so god knows how they would be on 24/7 lol
