At $125.99 and 95W it's not as appealing at all as I had expected Propus to be...
It's still not Propus core but L3 disabled Deneb.That's why the TDP is rated at 95W,although i honestly doubt that the CPU will draw even 65W under full load fp heavy test.Quote:

The TDP won't be 65W. If the TDP would be 65W then the AMD should mark all of these CPUs as energy efficient ("e" letter). I think that this is the reason why the AMD put all non 45W Propus to the 95W class. Simple marketing.
I always thought Propus was Deneb with no L3? When did that change?
It has never changed but the AMD uses some defective (or not defective) Deneb chips as well.Quote:

How well do these Athlon II x4's overclock? I can't find much information about them.

i am still wondering if anyone knows what cooler the propus X4 Athlon II's have. is it the Phenom II cooler or the Athlon II cooler? I would think it might come with the Phenom II cooler because of the 95W TDP but I want to make sure.

Mine has no "hidden" L3 (Propus),so perhaps the cooler is different on the
Deneb based A2 X4.
Without OC the i5 don't beat either 965 or 955(or 945 with luck). With OC it depends on the program. In the real life ones it's difficult to see a diference.
And in games, just buy a better gpu.

Given that 640 could cost between 139-149 I see AMD giving 945 end of life and just stay with 955-965 (with some price adjustments) as the top dogs.
to end the life of the 945 wouldn't make sense because it should outperform the 640 by a decent amount. i think almost everyone that has an i5 is going to do the turbo boost to oc it. and its like $50 cheaper. So amd will need to do some price cuts, but i guess it also depends on how well the i5 sells. if people are buying the i5 and it isn't making an effect on amd's cpu's in the same price range then it won't matter. but i think i5 is going to sell well. intel always sells well. amd needs to be smart and strategic about there lineup and also not flood the market with to many cpu's. I think they know this to an extent because the rumor is that when the Athlon II 255 comes out it will possibly mean the end of the 250 and it sounds pretty for certain when the X2 555 comes out that amd will end of life the X2 550. So i think amd is trying not to flood to many different cpu's out there but they still have to be smart, especially in the quad market with the Athlon II and Phenom II's getting fairly close in price.Quote:
