I'm a total newbie at 3D benching and I'm not extreme by any means but I'll do my best to contribute.
I'm so exited to finally have a video card worth playing with. Obviously I won't be breaking any records but is nice to be able to publish something for the first time and to be in the first page.
I'm very surprised to be there cause if you look at the top 3, their systems are much more powerful than mine not to mention my lousy 200MHz FSB.
I can work and fold stable 24/7 at 210 but is very hard to bench at that speed. I tried to bench a better run last night at higher everything but for some strange reason I couldn't break my own record... :confused:
Anyway, thanks for the welcome again. I'm installing a fresh copy of W2k and keep trying for a better score.

It's an Asus R9600XT VIVO. Mem? do you mean system memory or video card memory?

You may want to have a looksie at this site http://www.unoid.net/9600pro/voltage.html and see if your card is the original reference design. If it is it's an easy mod.
I was just wondering about your cards memory but i'm sure it's sammy 2.8-3.3ns stuff. Some people seem to think the the 3.0-3.3ns ram can run with 2.8ns timings to some really high speeds which i too agree. Anyway nice job and nice card!
You may gain some more core speed by upgrading the cooler also. Even though the .13 chips are suppose to run very cool they really start pumping heat out over 520MHz core. I use a fullsize copper CPU cooler on mine.

Yes, you're probably losing out in GT1 with that rig, but a nice video card clock you have there.

Nice score man. I was thinking of going R9600 Pro for my rig. I am still curious about doing that so I can join the ranks of the elite here with a decent 3DMark score.
That's a normal clock for that card, I have seen them do 600mhz without any voltage modifications at all. That new Low-K dialectric really helps.
Yeah it seems alot of the early review/production cards are getting 600 core or alittle more. The early pro's were clocking high too but eventually fizzled out. I think ATI did the same with XT's too, sorting the good ones to hit the market first.

I raised the FSB a little and pushed the card a bit more to 564/351, temps are ok both CPU and VC so I think I can go even higher.

No, not really. I was just curious as too what speed ram was on it.
If you want to check theres a long code with a dash in the center ontop the chips. The 14-15 digits indicate the operating speed.
33=3.3ns(300mhz) 2a=2.86ns(350) 2c=2.66ns(375) 25=2.5ns(400)

enzoR i'm not 100% sure now which model ram it is. I know for sure it's Samsung and i thought it was 2.86ns but i only glanced at it before putting my home made sinks on them. Maybe they were the 2.66ns chips? The memory clocked around 393MHz with the stock voltage of 2.77. With 2.9v i can run 2001 low detail tests @ 414 and high detail tests @ 409. Lucky card i guess.

I have a few CPU coolers around including some Cu ones, how did you attached yours? because the VPU core is so small that I'm afraid anything bigger or not sitting properly will rock back and forth.Quote:

I can't do any higher w/o artifacts or 3DMark aborting. I even placed the box next to an open window, the CPU was down to 13c :eek:, I was able to run @212x12 CI enable a few times but the card will not go any higher... :(

I used 4/40 screws and drilled/tapped the base of the CPU cooler and used a file to cut the base to clear the surface mount components on the board. For fan monitoring you can plug the speed signal wire (blue or yellow wire normally) into the fan header on your 9600. I think the signal wire on your XT is the blue one. You would need to hookup your new fan's signal wire to that pin.
I'll take a pic of 9700 with one on to show you.
i think you have the 2.66 ns then poki.... or maybe even 2.5. i have the 2.86's sammys... with me they do 355. i dont bother with 2001se because i cannot be bothered to have a clean install, and all those "tricks" with a clean OS and all that, plus their are guys running athlon 64... with a budget card.... i find that sad. The sliders were all set to performace aswell when i ran it. my OS install has has been about 3 months old, and isnt exactly the most efficient. i split my 80gb up in 3 partitions. i noticed that the sliders in the ati control panel dont help setting them at performance or quality in 03. i havnt experimented with 01 much yet. i'll have a go after my cristmas reformat :)

Here is some bad camera work but it's better than nothing.
These coolers fit very tight so plan on spending time lining them up and notching them for clearance. Once it's done though your GPU should run much cooler. This has a stock AMD 60mm on it for 24/7 use and gets a delta 60mm for benchmarking.
\edit\ BTW, the insulators under the screwheads are the little motherboard standoff insulators you get with a case kit. To set the cooler level on the GPU i sat the cooler fan side down on a table and then the card on top. I applied pressure with a finger directly over the bottom of the GPU to mate it flat to the cooler then ran the screws in till they just touched the PCB and torqued evenly to my desired seating pressure.

enzoR, as i recall the highest '03 score in 3.30 was 48XX points by an XT and A64. I'm just waiting to be beaten. The only thing i've got going for me is high clocking ram which really helps the 9600's.

Springs are good for equal pressure, but as OPP would probably suggest... High contact pressure is key!
Atleast i've read some threads joking about it... But i believe it to be true. These guys bow their PCB's pretty hard when they secure their evap heads to the chips.
Just make sure however you mount it, it's nice and tight!
BTW, are you going to hotglue the tips of your clips at the IC to make sure they stay put?
