This is really starting to push the envelope. :eek:

Ok, my goal has always been to double the FSB of a tbred. And I have done it. :) 266FSB, CPU Interface Enabled, memory running in sync at 2-2-2-11. Just thought I'd share. :D

The screenshot (linking instead of embedding, because of some low-resolution whiners last time :p:; be warned, it's 2048x1536)

As you can see in the top right corner, my voltages are ROCK SOLID (the ones pictures are Vdimm, at 3.55v, and 3.3v, at 3.7v). I think this is very important to overclocking success - think of it as the gas you put in your car. You wouldn't go into a race with sub-par gas!

My VDD is at 2.15v here, although I don't think it did much. The strangest thing about this motherboard is that it doesn't seem to max out. I can keep adding vdimm and she will keep giving more headroom. I don't know if I got a magic NB or what, but once I get my hands on some cheaper/throwaway BH-5, I will be pumping some serious volts through it (I'm thinking, around 4v :)) and I will find the limit of this board.

Interesting stuff. And I do believe this puts me as #1 AMD FSB in the world (except for the A64's). :cool:

OMG....besides the nagic NB, thats some fine ass 3200ddr as well. Rated at 200 and doing 266....a 75% increase isnt to shabby I would say.

What mobo is that btw?

Yeah, this is just a hollow copper tube filled with tap water (cooling the NB). :D Just a small 80mm, 21CFM fan over the RAM. :)

I'm thinking of replacing the caps & MOSFETS on the board with better ones, but I don't want to kill the board. :eek: What do you think I should do? I only have a regular 30w soldering iron, perhaps I should take it to a local electronics repair shop and they can do it with their hot air soldering guns and whatnot? :) :confused:

Adding caps to the back of the motherboard is safe, provided you get the polarity right. It makes mounting the mobo difficult, but if you're like me and don't use a case (mobo box is fine) then you won't have any problems.

I have only removed caps from dead motherboards, and it was always a messy process. I suggest trying everything on another board first to make sure you won't run in to problems.

I'm just afraid that in your attempt to go even higher (270fsb :rolleyes: ) you might kill the board. I've done it plenty of times. Fast... faster... faster... dead.

Are we talking voltage increases too, or did you just kill it by OCing? And are you sure it wasn't BIOS corruption? ;)

I guess I'll stick to my measly 266FSB for now. :D This was my goal for a while now, and I hit it, so I'm quite satisfied.

270 is definately within reach, since I can consistently POST at 275fsb (d18) at a mere 1.8v VDD... So it would appear the sky is the limit.:banana: :banana: :toast:

What did you do to allow you to use nV sys util to set up that far? Mine stops at 233mhz... 8-/

nVidia System Utility only works with multis 8 and lower. :rolleyes: :( Abit/nVidia should get their act in gear.

Sisoft numbers aren't that impressive, since I'm running 8x & SC... But it is in the 3900's. :D:banana: :toast:

What BIOS?! I tried both d10 and d19, same result on both. :( (although d19 gives me a bunch of useless little graphs too :rolleyes: ).

for the caps i wouldnt remove the ones that there are in the board, instead i would put them in the center of sun so they can develop a fully fusion energy charge. and for the mosfets i am prety sure that you can put dog poo instead of them.

Indeed! At 250FSB BIOS setting (max on d10 :(), I can go all the way up to 300 in NVSU.

Well, at 262 2-2-2-7, I got 383x... ;) So 266 2-2-2-11 should be much better :).

As for benching, I didn't try to bench at 266, because the way I OC it is I raise FSB, apply, wait for voltage readings (to make sure they're stable, and that I'm not changing FSB while voltages are dipping), take a screenshot, and repeat the process. I was trying to hit 270 on this attempt, but I froze up when going to 268. It seems the RAM needs more voltage (had the same problem before at lower vdimm, once I raised it, I got more headroom). I'm sure I will get the itch one of these days to go for 270, but for now I will enjoy my reign and try to keep this board as safe as I can. ;) (don't want to kill it with the 2.15v VDD I run through it while benching).

IIRC, I also have a 260FSB 3dmark run saved. :) But that was at a mere 3.44v Vdimm :D, so I'm sure I'll be able to bench higher now.

Since I can easily POST up to 275, I know for a fact that this board has plenty left in it. We'll just have to wait and see how much. :D:toast:

Dude nice results you got there,

I hit a brick wall @ arnd 252mhz whatever the timings whatever the voltages. The wall im hitting is also independent of what sticks ive got in i.e i can hit 252mhz with 3 sticks in and 252mhz with 1 stick in.

Voltages are 3.6vdimm and 3.6v for 3.3volt rail. Vdd is @1.9volts, nthbridge cooled with crystal orb. With your experience with your brd would you say that nthbridge cooling with you copper pipe make a difference? Im a bit baffled to what the bottleneck on my system is. Me thinks that i need more vdd but need the cooling to go with it. Will find out at Christmas time when i get some water on this setup then u better watch out i will be after your record

Those lower multi's are something else. I was never able to go past 235fsb before with cpu interface disabled and a 4/3 divider on the ram. Set my 2500 to the 8 multi and had no probs until 255fsb with cpu interface on and dual channel with 2x512mb running the 4/3 divider. At that point prime95 would pass but memtest(win32 based) failed. I had tried different dividers on the ram before just to see if my ram was holding me back with no luck. I now know for sure this chip can take the fsb but this motherboard sure can't when the cpu asks for too much juice.
I hope that AN7 can do better than this.

I can effortlessly do 250x10 at 1.95v VDD. ;) So I'm sure I could go higher, even without the 8x. It's just the nVidia System Utility that's holding me back.

Yes, as most of the gains with dual channel on the NF2 are made by hardware devices that have direct memory access. On a P4 or A64 system everything has access to the memory bandwidth in cluding the processor. It's just a limit of the Tbred/Barton design.

This explains why the P4 architecture is such a bandwidth hog. When using a single memory controller configuration, like the i845 chipset, or a i865/i875 with only one channel being used, the FSB is capable of sending much more data than the memory controller can bring in from the ram, causing inefficiency.

This situation is quite the opposite for a system based on the Athlon XP architecture. Again, think of our 4 lane highway, representing a dual channel DDR configuration. This time though, our bridge is only 2 lanes wide. This is because the Athlons' FSB is only capable of DDR equivalent performance. So that second channel goes to waste, as you cannot force all the cars through the bridge at once. The only time this comes in useful is when latencies inhibit the RAM from performing as fast as the FSB is capable of taking in data... which leads nicely into the next section.

yep, at 270 i can't bench at all :D just enter in windows and do a shot, but hei, it's a all stock nf7!!! vdd at 1.6v (1.7 give worse results) and nb with stock cooling

unfortunatelly after that i try to mod the board, but i'd find that this board doesn't accept any type of hight voltage, so nothing over 2.9v for vmem, nothing over 1.9v for vcore and also nothing over 1.6vdd and 1.5vagp... so it's a very unlucky board, but with great NB potential...

what vdd mod did you try? what happened if you raised the vdd to 1.7v?

on my a7n8x i dont really see a diference with higher vdd either, it does 210 primestable with 1.6 vdd and with 1.65v i get 235, but not even 2v help me to run primestable with 240... i can play games for days (lan :D) at 245 with only 1.65v vdd and air cooling on the nb, but prime fails after some hours...

hmmm maybe its my memory? hmmm could be! lol i never thougt of that :P i can play games and do everything except for prime at 245 and even 250 but could it be that my memory gives me small errors above 235 already so prime fails but everything else just ignores those small errors?

well the "secret" to a high fsb if there is any is a good nb wich depends on luck and defiantely high and even more important stable! voltages (3.3v and 5v rail)

something special with the nf2 is that its newest stepping doest seem to care about vdd anymore, so all you can do to get a higher fsb is raise those rails to 3.7 and 5.7v or higher. to get stable voltages you need good mosfets and capacitors and good cooling on the mosfets if they run hot. and of course you need a good powersupply that produces out stable rails.

oh and dont forget to cool the sb! gave me 5mhz fsb extra and you might get hd corruption, problems with cd drives and network/sound on board related probs.

CPU Interface Disabled makes a huge difference. Let's not kid ourselves, 266 Enabled is a lot faster than 270 disabled. 270 is about as fast as 250 Enabled.

Why do you have to be so quick to get angry? :( I get several PM's a day now about FSB OCing and I answer all of them. Sometimes I don't find time to reply to every post, or perhaps I had decided to reply to yours later and forgot about it.

Anyway, to answer your question - I think you need to raise your 3.3v rail. If your Vdimm is at 3.6v and your 3.3v rail is at 3.6v, I'm surprised you can even go up to 252 - in my experience, the 3.3v rail has to be 0.15v higher than vdimm AT ALL TIMES to get a stable overclock.

at 275-277 give 3660-3700mb/s (don't know why it continuelly change), so i thing a pretty good bandwidth for a 2300mhz cpu and 3-4-4-5 timigns with cpu interface disable...
but as we know sandra doesn't show much real performance in bandwidth, like on intel 1:1 3-4-4-8 VS 5:4 2-2-2-5.....

memtest never tryed but i doubt that can be stable either at 270mhz
at 270mhz i can do pcmark (at 275 crash) but as i say i must use 1.5v vdd (tryed yesterday and it's more stable).. with 1.7v vdd i can't get 280mhz, with vdd mod up to 2v i can't for example s.pi (at 2v) at 270, but with 1.5v i can s.pi up to 275...
so it's a particular mobo that won't accept hight voltage...
some time ago in this mobo i have done a vddrmod, ad at >3v VDDR the mobo won't overclock at all over 240mhz, with 3.2v nothing over 230...
so it's not a mobo for overclock, only to play a bit with...

Id like to see how 280MHz FSB 1:1 @3-4-4-5 compares to to my 246MHz FSB 1:1 @2-2-2-11 sandra score (Stock board no mods btw ;) ) the board and memory are now sadly fragged but it was fun while it lasted. I managed 250FSB but only a 9.5x multi so nothing special but is shows what difference the multi makes when you compare my two scores

Xducks acheivement is far more fantastic, 266FSB not only a high number but it also has really low latencies to cope with too, coping with CPU-Interface and tight timings is far more stressful than just a high FSB and slacker timings than a $5 hoe ;)

try with cpu at about 2200mhz with 246mhz 11-2-2-2
at 270mhz, DC 5-4-4-3, Cpu int Enable i manage about 3800mb/s with multy at 8x, barton cpu, if i remember right 83% efficiency
but now i'm trying with vdd mod, but can't understand why at 1.5v get the same results that at 2v... must find the problem..

dont do too much vdd, you may find that 1.6 or 1.7 is better

i have noticed that on my other nf7, but seems that with more vdd i can't boot at hight fsb like with less vdd, but i'm more stable at stable-limit fsb
for example, 1.5vdd bench 2d at 250, bench 3d at 240
1.8vdd bench 2d at 246/250, so less stable than with 1.5v, but 3d stable at 244mhz...

They are not too spectacular, I only get 39xx since it is 8x and SC... But I do have a 260DC screenshot. :)

Looks like these DFI's are the wave of the future, though - I hope to be picking one up soon!

Xducks acheivement is far more fantastic, 266FSB not only a high number but it also has really low latencies to cope with too, coping with CPU-Interface and tight timings is far more stressful than just a high FSB and slacker timings than a $5 hoe ;)

I said against 280MHz FSB 1:1 @3-4-4-5 not 248 @2/2/2/11, what was the point in your post? to make me look stupid or to simply prove you can do 61MB/s Int and 50MB/s float more in sandra using the 11.5x multi with a barton and a prommie/vapo/water against my 10x multi with a tbred B under a 1 and 1/2 yr old coolermaster HHC-001 and more recent Smartfan 2 on a board with no extra cooling, not even an As3'd northbridge and no vmods at all :rolleyes:

Come to think of it this may have done the reverse on ya :p:

Oh and just top clarify, my score was donw with CH5 TWINX3200LL @2.9v (read as 3.01v) :banana:

this is not 280 but 265, cpu int enable, timings 2.5-3-4-11 with 2*A-Data PC4000, no vmods needed
it's another NF7-S V2.0 because the board that can do 280 cpu int disable can do it only at 7-7.5-8x, this can do around 260-265 cpu int enable but with any multiplier

i have noticed that ANY nforce2 can go much highter of FSB(around 10mhz sure) with 7-7.5-8x multiplier, so the problem is that this multiplier range is pretty useless.... the ideal range is form 9x to 11x, it's not too easy to find a mobo that can handle such hight mhz at such hight fsb... and i haven't seen a DFI that can do it right now (or only few, like 1), so DFI can be the best board, but at the same time can be a limited board if it can't handle much mhz... must wait to see, but probably with prescott incoming the A32 plataform will die immediatelly for the overclockers...

How are you guys getting more voltage to the vdimm, i have the vr cranked all the way and im only getting 3.24. My 3.3rail is at 3.4v. If I could just get more voltage i might be able to compete with you guys.
