that's a review about the new Corsair Hydro Series H50. The products has been compared with a "similiar" all-in-one liquid cooling kit (the CoolIt Domino A.L.C.) and also with an high-end air cooler, the Thermalright IFX-14.

the review/site layout is a bit weird... :D
the corsair thing isnt finished off that well, not really flat... too bad, they probably lose 1C to that...
so overall the corsair cools as good as the domino on full speed. 1-2C diference could be meassurement inaccuracies or not perfect mount etc...
and the ifx is a tiny bit better than both.
i like the review, BUT...
what i really dont like is that all cpu speeds they tested were with less than stock vcore...
id really like to know how these watercooling setups perform vs an ifx with the cpu REALLY maxed out at 4G+ with AT LEAST stock vcore if not more...
sure, most people will undervolt their i7 chips since they run incredibly hot, BUT... whoever buys a watercooling rig will expect to be able to clock his cpu higher than with a good heatsink, and i dont think those cooling solutions can do better than an ifx... im curious how well they would do though... so can they be used for benching or not?
But it's not undervolt: @ 3,8GHz the 1,175V is higher than the VID of that CPU sample ;)

Of course the review is about coolers... everyone knows how much an i7 sample is hot... so that's better to use "low" frequencies, imho. That's not an high-end liquid cooling system that can manage high vcores and frequencies. Furthermore a D0 sample @ 1,1x V is hotter than a C0 sample @ 1,3xV ;)
not looking too good for corsair as of now.
It didn't do bad for what it is.
Well the air cooled system does perform better...
@ max2000: yes, but Corsair radiator is smaller than the fins surface of the IFX-14, and the Corsair even costs less ;)

Like sayaa said it would be nice to see how the Corsair unit manages higher vcore settings.Even better to be tested with socket 775.
I'm pretty sure it can handle 4 - 4.2GHz I7 CPU's for daily use (depending on the cpu's output)... for benching and higher look for more exotic cooling devices. But like I said in the other thread that is not the objective of Corsair. It can match a TRUE's performance and even beat it, but even the TRUE stops at 4.0 Ghz with some I7 HT on hotheads. Main thing is you need a well ventilated case to get the max out of it...
Main advantage is ease of installation and bang for the buck.... I don't understand why users expect it to be a top overclocking cooling device... keep price/performance ratio in perspective
Meh.. it can cool some stock clock I7 or with a mild oc if its a miracle chip that doesnt need much volts.
Lets see what happens when you throw a I7 at it that needs 1.33V for 200x21 and HT on running 100% load 24/7 and a spaceheater (4870x2) in the same Case (which of course has to be closed).
the coolit domino is a piece of crap anyways.

When using a high airflow design case like the HAF 932, aircoolers will always get a bump in performance due to the lower ambient temps. We're 1C warmer at 3.8 GHz in this situation, but if the case had been a more typical design (with a slightly higher ambient internal temp) we would have outperformed the IFX-14 I believe.

To get fresh ambient air over the rad, disadvantage, some extra heat will be dumpe in the case. Hence why I always say that a good ventilated case is a must....Quote:

if you measure from the centre of the CPU , you can reach about 22-25cm from that position. It all depends on ya case ofcourse

This device had a lot of promise, but I think the execution has some issues:
- As was noted earlier in the thread, if you are making a self-contained wc device to use ONLY on the cpu, which means the rest of the case relies on airflow and air cooling, you must design it to cooperate with that setup. Basically, I think that means pumping warm air into the back of the case is a BAD idea since that goes against the airflow pattern of the case of just about every person that would consider buying this. If you want cool air, you should go to the front of the case, or at least make it possible to dual mount on the side panel (see the next point). That might also mean possibly trying to take advantage of cooler ambient temps inside the case with fins on the block or some other use of the space above the socket.
- Push/pull yields the most effective radiator performance, and yes it does create a bulkier cooler, but what is the point of using water technology if you aren't even going to beat IFX air coolers? This might mean the mount will have to be all inside of the case, but there are a lot of cases with modular bay setups and room for a 120mm cube with two fans and a rad.
- Some people have said the HS is not flat enough, which if true is just carelessness on the part of Corsair and really inexcusable.
Also, the reviews on this hardware are completely useless. The entire point of watercooling is the high specific heat of water, which means it outperforms air at HIGH chip temps which is why you are buying this in the first place. Why aren't the reviewers pushing the chips hotter? We know air is pretty good at low temperatures, the question we are asking is at what temperature does a standalone water cpu cooler surpass air? The only reviews I have seen show the H50 losing to air coolers, which might be true at these voltages but it is surely the other way around if you get hot enough.
A WC setup with a mere 75ml (could be even less) won't absorp a lot of heat compared to a normal WC setup. Also the total cooling area is a bare minimum. I had one bad unit so I opened it up and tried to refill it, took me a syringe to accomplish that Compared to a 500ml or even a liter of fluid in most common WC loops. A well setup water loop can hold a CPU for maybe 20 minutes at a laower temp , then eveything starts to heat upI took 3.8Ghz as it was as far the stock cooler could prime without throttling. Just to have a reference there to compare the 3 coolers. You absolutely cannot compare this unit with a basic WC setup : it has less fluid, slower pump speed with build in reservoir, amasingly thin tubing, far less contact surface with the CPU ( copperplate is a very very thin ) and far less cooling area (the rad is thinner than a stock 120 rad) yet it sitll accomplishes to hold up against a good air cooler like the TRUE. (my TRUE uses a the washer mod and a faster 1600rpm spinning fan than the stock units)
Ender17 reversed the air flow like you suggested resulting in ofcourse worse temps ( think difference was 5-6 °C ), You can also reverse the way of airflow (then suggested by Corsair) by trying to mount the rad in front of the pc (but not all cases allow that ofcourse)
I use the H50 daily now in PnP config with my 950 at 4.0Ghz with Ht on... keeps the cpu under gaming and co under 60°C, Prime is 72-75°C. I even benched on it at 4.5Ghz with HT off, no sweat...
For the money it's a nice piece of machinery, main target is not us the enthousiasts, but the ones that want to have a good price/performance, easy installation and zero maintenance. It's a bit misplaced here in the WC section...

since I rather not move my other fans to accommodate this unit.
I'm not XS as most AC or WC setup, but would entertain this upgrade.
I would probably switch push and pull fans with some Scythe Flex or move some Yates from my side door.
I'm thinking of putting one of my san ace denki 120*38mm fans(under volted) on this to see how it performs vs the standard fan...... My unit hasn't arrived yet...

funny in that review is that the unit idles way higher than anything else... bad pump mount ? that's really hard to explain as the pump should run flatout all the time and the fan here on my mobo was throttled by the PWM regulator on idle at around 1000rpm (uner load there was 60rpm difference between the S775 and I7 motherboard. Then look at the PNP, look how they are directed in an exhaust config and it beats the setup with one fan sucking in fresh ambient air straight to the rad with ambient air at 22°C... mmmmmmmmmmm
My idle temps were all far better with the H50 than with the TRUE, OC'ed or not... I hope some users can test the PNP config and or idle temps and report back here, I'm intrigued by that review

This looks great. Although i'm still deciding on this or a TRUE.
Do you think this could fit on a 140mm fan? Would be easier to mount on the top of my PC-P60.

140mm fan I don't think: you have to mod it, for example you can mount the 140mm fan to the case through longer screw and put in the middle, between the two surfaces, the radiator, hoping that it is stable thanks to the pressure.
