My best time so far in 1m...on my worst chip and cheapo ram...

Currently the highest air submission on hwbot.org, however, I know there are tonnes of people out there that have already beat my score on air, but have yet to submit it to hwbot.

Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2GHz OCed to 4153MHz
Gigabyte MA-790FXT-UD5P
G.Skill Pi 1333MHz 7-7-7-18 Stock speeds OCed to 1704MHz 7-7-7-15-11-1T 1.75V

Nice! What is your NB vid for 2.9Ghz? I cant seem to get mine stable above 2.6Ghz. If I could get my NB freq higher my pi would be much better than it is. BTW, this is with CPU @ 3.7Ghz w/ 1.42v

NB voltage I used was +.5V

Little more than the chip should be ran at, but it was just for a 1m run. It was also only stable for 1m runs. I'll state that now before anyone calls me out on posting "far from the truth results"

For 32M yes but for 1M high CPU-NB seems much more important.

It is a tad too much but it doesn't matter...it was just a few 1m runs.

Keep tweaking that ram and lets see some 16s flat, it can be done.

I just installed the Crosshair III with a 955 and some OCZ DDR3 AMD version.

Second boot up at 3.6GHz and 2.6NB, voltages at auto.

Unfortunately it's too hot now here to do some serious overclocking (27ºC roomtemp atm) but i will try to give you some competition here buddy. :)

set the affinity to whatever of your cores clocks the best and clock that core higher using k10stat

and best on air is not saying much lol this is the best 550BE i have seen on DICE yet its still not top on anything ;)

I know about the affinity and K10stat stuff....Except if you're only using one core higher and the affinity set on the highly clocked core, you actually get a slower time than if all the cores were at the same high speed

I'm not near as nooby as you think I may be. Beat your DICE scores on the bot btw ;) Some of yours were ES submissions as well. All retail on mine.

Best on air shows how skilled the overclocker/tuner is....nothing in relation to WR's that are done on LN2/LHe though

most of my records were also held with a very early bad clocking chip and a mid range mobo ;)


just out of curiosity which DICE bench did you top me in? i notice you got me by a couple of 10ths of a second in superpi

and i never said you were nooby just that i put out what i and several others had used to squeeze a better time out of there chips.

Did not bother with brand of ram because well it doesn't matter..... the timings dictate that it can be only GTR or GTS and likely to only happen with severe binning.....

I will say these are sold as 1600 7-7-7. Only thing you can buy to match this that's almost guranteed is elpida hypers.....with the high failure rates not worth it for 2x1 g....

I know thats how I started. I had an HP 939 rig....I actually managed to OC it through software.....200MHz gain on my 4200+ X2. Nothing big, but for a software OC on an HP, pretty decent.

The binning continues....mind you this is useless for real world just getting some sticks lined up for some 2d work......

This set is rather interesting in the fact that they hate voltage......oddly enough they are rated for 2.0v.........

Gonna see if i can break past this magical barrier with these.....I could run 1m higher with the other sticks....and error free in memtest but 32m would just lock.....:shrug:

Unfortunately no matter what I do I can't go further.....one stick hates voltage......over 1.95v.......other stick wants voltage over 1.95v. Rock and a hard place type deal....not bad considering my ability to do anything with voltage was impaired....

Thing is, my system was faster, but there are anomalies (efficiency problems) going on with my ram in 1m. I'm waiting till I can get a new set, and until then, I can't get sub 16s

Ok.......I should have stuck with my own teachings...anything is possible. Seems the gigabyte can keep up with the asus.

I narrowed it down to a specific combo of settings......looking at my asus results.....I duplicated similar cpu/nb ratios and voila......not on air atm but.....this might be doable.....the math is done.

What cpu you use is not important...only the combo....of cpu/nb speeds.

HT is best under 2200......ram does not matter as long as its fast and tight.....

5-5-5 1400+
6-6-6 1600+
7-7-7 1800+
or in my case a mix of 6-6-6 / 7-7-7

Very nice ram clocks and timings there, i doubt 2x2GB can come anywhere close to that.

If i can maintain the efficiency of my last run i think i can break into the 15sec zone at ~4250MHz.

Now if only temps here in the Netherlands go down i can do some serious clocking.

Running 1M at 4212MHz (1.49V) was possible with 25ºC ambient so 4250 should be doable with more favourable conditions i guess.

My colleague bought an airconditioner a while back... it didn't cost him an arm and a leg lol... maybe you should buy that too Zeus... nothing like 15c air hitting your case eh?

Great work getting sub 16s on the gigabyte......nothing is linear....everything is possible :P

I did some more work last night but I'm limited on my chip. Even with a low 23C idle I cannot superpi at 4231MHz on my 955. I'm also limited at my ram, it is at its max almost. I did get 16.234s though.,... .001s faster

When I come back with a diff chip and a new set of ram, getting 15s will be my goal with the gigabyte board....

It will take a lot of work....sleepless nights, maybe even weeks.....but I'll try.

and with DDR2 its impossible under 16 :-/...with AIR cooling

An individual told me that anything is possible....and I believe My mind has been freed......

I have come across a LOT over the past 3 hours.

First off, I removed the heatspreaders on my ram to find that the IC's were Elpidas. This is GREAT considering this ram is $42 USD.

Building upon that finding, I changed around some timings and tuned my ram again.

The outcome was that I was able to hit 7-8-7-20-1T @ 1800MHz 1.65V for 1m runs. Haven't tried 32m yet. But Remember, this is ram that is binned at 1333MHz 7-7-7-18T 1.6V

Did not take any Screenshots yet.....you can expect them tomorrow evening though.

Nice find man! If they are Elpida Hypers be carefull not to kill them as some seem to die by only just looking at 'm.

All you need now is a cpu that will clock better. ;)

They are regular elpidas.....which are elpida hypers from the reject bin...so they should go pretty high

I've been testing to find the limit for CPU-NB for 1M stabilty.

Turns out it maxes somewhere at 3050MHz with 1.3875V and still a 24ºC ambient.

Raising volts to 1.4V didn't do much so it seems i've hit the limit on that, unless i can get the temps down off course. :)

I think this 955BE is an average clocker but it clocks better than my former 940BE, that's for sure.

All those results above are on phase change except the asus.....voltage is chip to chip dependant and motherboard dependant......I have one chip here that needs crazy volts just to do 2600.......

Just water! 28 minutes prime stable now. CPU *44c under load and *30c idle :) I think my ram is holding me back. Im @ 25-8-7-7 w/ 1.95 1600mhz, but stable with Crucial ballistics 1333.

What is the default value for NB vid? Isn't that 1.15V? That would mean you're pumping a whopping 1.64V into that CPU-NB! :eek:

I think i degraded the NB of my 940 by pumping 1.47V into it with the stock cooler. It was always able to run 2.8GHz with NBvid at auto but after i pushed that volts through it i never got it to do that again.

It could have been the 2,5Vdimm i used as well, i don't really know but i'd rather be safe than sorry so i will stay below 1.45V on th NB to be sure.

All chips require different amounts.....

Personally, mine needs +.4 - +.475 for 2800-2900

Afraid I can't go much further as both my ram and CPU seem to be maxed/very close to max. Plus I had to have a huge box fan and my window open for this one.

Still on a $42 set of ram...and my cpu won't go that high...and ASUS is better for superpi

whau, nice socre, il try today, but its hot :(. I must evening and too open window :). But my PC is about 3m from window and im too lazy get PC nearer. But hope for 20 Celsius temperature evening :).

This morning we got torrential rain accompanied with some fresh dutch air.

Conditions i just had to use to swing things in my favour, work had to wait! :D

With the pc in front of the backdoor sub 16 seconds came way too easy:

Are you sure you'll need that much ram speed?

Mine was only at DDR1420 as you can see but with nice timings though, i know your mobo is different but did you try lower ram speed with 6-6-6 timings or is your ram not capable of doing that?

im not today luckly...All runs crash at superpi, a problem is, think, core #3 (4th core)...All more than 4100MHz 1M crash today-blue screen or frozed.:(

Well, so far efficiency is very good, sub 68K Performance Product is quite easy actually.
It's definately better than the M4A79 deluxe i had before but that was a DDR2 board of course.

DeDal broke the 1M WR with this board too, might be coincidence but from what i've seen it's quite good for 1M.

I'm looking forward to your runs on the MSI, i'd like to see at what frequency it will break 16seconds. ;)

Are you sure you'll need that much ram speed?

Mine was only at DDR1420 as you can see but with nice timings though, i know your mobo is different but did you try lower ram speed with 6-6-6 timings or is your ram not capable of doing that?

Well...I might.

My cpu has hit a wall at 4230MHz for 1m through testing so far......and thats on 12C ambients. Once I tune up my ram again I'll see if I can push it higher.

I think your attributing boards effeciency to the wrong factor, fresh install ;)your going by effeciency of just CPU speed...

When I calculate efficiency I calculate the NB as well combined total...

so your run required 4260 + 2982 = 7242

My run with m4a79 T 4285 + 2926 = 7211 and matched the same time dirty install.

My run on giga 4294 + 2938 = 7232 and beat the crosshairs time on a dirty install.

If you don't measure it this way I could just crank NB beyond 3000 and claim its more efficient.

Here's the MSI on a completely wrecked and patched OS.......tested today long after I tested asus......asus had quite the advantage ram timing wise.

If you want to do a real fair comparisation you have to take memspeed and even timings into consideration as well.

Your NB speed was slower but your ramspeed was higher, there's always something, hehe. ;)

You're right about a fresh install, this one i'm using is far from fresh but still running fine though.

Just water man easier to research this before applying on air.

True about the ram. I still think the msi is most efficient clock per clock, especially if you factor in ram speed/timings.

As I said before, I'm limited at the chip. Gonna be hard for me to beat that one.....if it is even possible on the gigabyte board

I validated this cpu over 4500 on this high end water setup......I have another 200mhz for 1m.

Nah flanker this is like the middle guy of all my chips.

We should have a "tweak it" versus "OC knob" battle in 1m zues I got times down to 15.6xx last night playing with it while running 1m.

I was up to 5 notches on the OC knob by middle of the run before I backed off.

6 notches gave me a ram error. No clue what speed was was just fooling around to see how far it could go. I would imagine near 4380 at max.

Sounds like a very strong CPU, don't know if mine will be able to run 1M at 4380MHz.

Shame you did not make a screenie.
