The Pentium Dual Core E6300 (45nm) thread

Got my PDC E6300 today and plopped it for a quick run on my oldest Intel chipset mobo (965) I have around and it works quite nicely altho' the latest BIOS (out 10 months ago) is still rather buggy with this new chip - keeps defaulting to stock 10.5x multiplier. Was really surprised that the rather old BIOS could recognise the E6300 properly although Asus did not list it as supported.

Not bad at all for a 3 year old chipset, still clocks well but definitely not the best mobo to squeeze the best out of this chip.

I like this cheap E6300 chip already. :up:

Tried 400+FSB at one point, the buggy BIOS defaulted to Auto Vcore with stock 10.5x and POSTed the chip at over 4.2GHz. Of course, the Vcore was not at all what I prefer to use on a 45nm. http://img.vrforums.com/smilies/angel.gif

Which batch and how high is the FSB wall on your E6300?

mine is batch q909A336, and it seems like a bad clocker with VID 1.2875 :eek:! i thought max VID for these 45nm chips were 1.25v?

anyways, i was able to reach 3.6ghz prime stable with stock voltages. glad it doesn't have low fsb wall like the e5xxx series. i hit a wall at 497fsb with moderate bios tuning. it still consider it a pretty bad clocker though. maybe i've just been spoiled with too many e8xxx series chip?

Wow, that's a very early batch. In fact, that's the earliest I have seen so far for a retail E6300.

As for the VID, I am still wondering if Intel misprinted the Vcore range as 1.265v instead of the usual 1.365v for 45nm. Think there is no way Intel is going to let these budget PDC chips clock as nicely as their mainstream C2D E8xxx series, the bottom caps on these E6300 seems rather skimpy to me.

I picked up a couple last week - both Q901A227, 1.2875 VID

Does 3.85ghz on stock voltage. Doesn't seem to scale too well with voltage though. Takes +.1v to hit 4.1ghz. Maybe its my temps though. I'm using an old XP120 with a low speed panaflo and hitting almost 70c. I may try a Ninja I have laying around to see how much better temps help.

so can you test what voltage is needed when overclock at 4ghz is stable,i suggest use orthos or prime95 to take the test.

it took me about 1.40v to be fully stable at 4ghz. that's why i consider this family of chips to be bad clockers.

There was no special bios tuning, because dual core doesn't need extra efford. :)

There is no (Orthos) stability over 1.45V with my TT Typhoon.

well i meant just getting into windows at that voltage is pretty impressive, especially 5ghz on a low end chip with no tuning.

What did you expect ? 1.25Vcore ? There has to be a catch with these low end CPU's... My E7400 does 4ghz ( 8x500 ) at 1.32Vcore which is pretty nice, but I've seen loads of others barely breaking 3.8Ghz. Some luck is involved. But bang for the buck these might be nice CPU's.

don't get your hopes up too high. most of these screens that people post are good batches and give good results. if you have an expectation that it will do 4.5ghz or over, you'll be disappointed.

I know about this. My two friend's testes this cpu ; one not too mouch and hit 400 FSB soo it's too slow, second hit almost 4.3GHz at hmm 1.4V at air of course and not full stable.

For me will be good 4GHz or more 24/7 and bench stable @ air at 4.5 ( or more ) with good vcore = not more than 1.55 for bench of course.

What is the max 24/7 voltage for one of these chips? I will be upgrading to i7 or i5 in Oct. so I was thinking of running one of these as hard as possible until then haha. Would 1.5v be okay?

Mine is just running now, batch Q907a427. Vid 1.275

Runs now at 450FSB with 7X, 1.2Vcore in bios ( no LLC ), under load 1.15 on the stock cooler. Hope she can do 500FSB...

3.920 GHZ with 1.368 idle and 1.312 load i have a MB with big vdroop around 0.04-0.05v but at 80$ what can i ask from Asrock P45DE..:D
4ghz 1.384 under load... 1.408 idle
490 FSB stable, 500 FSB reached but not stable due the fact i have some cheap memory..:up:
Working on a 4.2-4.3 settings...
My opinion these chips are definetly better than E5xxx due the high bus at which can work...

I have one of those in my wifes machine and it's been kicking for the last year at 3.6 with no problems, it's a great chip for hte price!

What is a little sad ist that chips do 4ghz > with a little more voltage than should need, i mean it's a huge difference between 3.9ghz and 4ghz.. And beyond 4ghz it's scalling not so good with voltage...

One full year? That's a 65nm conroe then; these are different.

my expectations were a little too high with these chips so it got me the disappointment. bought one a little over a month ago and the VID was too high and 4ghz needed ~1.4v, so i sold it right away. bought another one with the same results more or less, also selling it in the FS section. lol anyone interested?

lol these haven't been out for a year. they're the newer 45nm e6300 out for ~2months. yeah intel is retarded for recycling the name again and i'm sure you're not the only one that mistaken it with the older version

4.120ghz, 1.448 idle, 1.400v load .. i have a big vdroop at this Asrock MB, still wonderful for 80$:D

Good work mate, I could run mine stable at 520 FSB for benching, but mine topped at 535FSB for short runs... Still a nice CPU bang for the buck wise. Doing a roundup between this one, the E7400 and the E8600 to recompare the cache influence again.

Very well, i hope thay you will do some oc comparation too.
I hope that an E6300 3.9-4ghz at a high bus 490-500 can match E8400 stock in majority of games..

I already compared the E7400 against the E8600, so will just be adding the results of this CPU at the different clockspeeds...

This CPU is some funky :banana::banana::banana::banana: :) Just got it 3 days ago. This is from my 12h blend session, I also did small ftt's for 12h overnight, but I didn't grab a screenshot. I'd propably manage to get a little better score with some more fine tuning, I only spent a few hours on this cpu to get it to this point. But I cba really, this works perfectly for me for 24/7 use - nice clock, low voltages (also on my mobo), stable and good temps :)
But I have to admit I was a little scared when I first seen the VID... Thankfully it goes to 4.0ghz with pretty low volts, tho it seems scaling gets a lot worse after this. I'd have to pump it up to around 1.36v to get it stable at 4.1, I think 4.2 would be possible with 1.4v. But then temps would be a few C's higher, so it's not worth it for daily use.

Nice CPU Kyo', mine needs a tad more vcore for 4ghz, again you prove VID isn't the golden egg as many think, there are some pretty good high VID clockers around. so nice to run a 90 euro CPU at 4ghz daily...

Ahhhh this chip is interesting

however i will go for E5200 (much cheaper haha)

Well I'm pretty sure the one we got would do 5.3-5.4 for benching purposes, we put 1.8Vcore in the bios and cooled it under the cascade and let it complete all the runs like that. If we pushed more vcore we could have gotten CPU-Z higher too for sure... but it was just quick fun that afternoon...

Which motherboard ? On the Giga EP45 UD3LR it was dead easy

on DFi JR P45... i tried different FSB strap and i think the only one wish rocks i 266. I even can't boot windows with 333 strap

I think you need to set TRD setting yourself as it's too tight, try loosening it to 9 eg. Also the Nb GTL value has to be correctly set. If this mobo is anything like the early biosses of the DK, then it's best to create a Mem86 bootcd, it's so easy to corrupt ya windows install when trying to look for Max OC. Which Bios are you currently running ?

i use the last bios 03/20. i tried to boot at 10*380 with 266 strap and i freezes at post when detecting cpu.

My GTL's are 0.63 / 0.67 for CPU and 0.61 for NB.... probably a bad setting in bios.

My E6300 is a Costa-rica and the batch begins by 9.....:shrug:

Drop multi to eg 8 or so and set 1.35Vcore.... leave CPU GTL's alone, set NB GTL to 0.64ish region, try first 333FSB and work ya way up

that vcore is really high for 24/7. are you on air? how did you manage to use vcore that high and didn't run into the thermal limit using linx?

The clock is nice, but how do you achieve it ? via 400FSB ? if I was you and if ya mobo can handle it go for 8 x 500, will provide you very good bandwith and really 1.62 volts is far too high for 24/7 even under water.My sample did 4Ghz 1.42vcore... 4.5 at 1.55Vcore

None of my cpu's are linX stable as I don't even test that, they are folding ,game and bech stable.... under the cascade it was stable at 5.2 no sweat at 1.8vcore :p

I absolutely don't care about IBT... as it has been already been proven a zillion times that it's not THE test. It's overhyped as it produces excessive heat and people think it's a better test then...

and why do you want to prove some myth that has been busted before, if you have a good cpu it will last , if you got a dud one it might degrade in weeks at stock volts lol... mostly you will degrade ya mobo sooner than a well cooled cpu...

For ya little comerades on your forum search for Benchzowners thread on the vcore fsb term thingy. Bill has put several real £OC'ed Wolfdales at +1.5vcore, 1.5vtt;PLL 1.7 for weeks... on air !! none has failed... he lost one mobo in the process as his test was 24/7... your about at least a year too late on this matter....have fun, with it but it's a waste of cycles... even if yours should fail you still haven't proven anything...

Bought one yesterday to change out my 6600ES and it is a nice cpu for 65€! Oc is average but much better as with my previous cpu! ;)

Hope you can stabilise 8 x 500FSB mate and enjoy the extra ram bandwith over the P5B Dlx... I really liked this CPU a lot...

So is it dead yet as you claim to have a no post a while ago ? Didn't know a degraded CPU wouldn't allow a mobo not to post,unless it must be seriously damaged, surely as you have more than ample volts to fire her up...If the cpu is down the drain and to back up ya story, you wil need to test another one and for verification send that dead/degraded one to me, I'll test it and try to RMA it for ya...
I would want to post more but I'll get an admin up my a s s;l For starters I haven't seen any daily results, tests,... you can write whatever you want in fact. How on earth can you prove to me you are telling the truth ? Blind faith I have absolutely none, looking at the way this test is conducted (you change variables all the time , let her run on AUTO for a while, then change this, then that,... :shakes: have you even measured the Vcore voltage with a Vdimm ? and so on ...

yep better to run a CPU at a sweetspot and keep temps/voltages (electricity bill) under control , no use for them extra 200mhz

I have made a Work PC for my Dad and i Test max Clock with the 6300 :) Vid1.27 i had max 4,8Ghz on 1,56v and 24/7 4,2Ghz at 1,42VCore LinX and Prime stable at Scythe Mugen max 67C.

There must be a bios setting which is holding you back, since you said you can get 3.8GHz no problem with much less voltage. There's no way 200MHz extra on the CPU will require more than 0.1v just to get to desktop; perhaps you are overvolting FSB/NB/DIMM. I couldn't boot over 400FSB until I drastically reduced some other voltages, and now I can get past 500FSB no problem without too much vcore.

My chip has a high VID but benches nicely at 500x8 with only 1.4v bios.
